Albertinum (1884-87; Adolph Canzler)

We visited the Albertinum Art Museum and purchased tickets for the English-language tour of the Paula Modersohn-Becker and Edvard Munch exhibition. Although most of the participants were German speakers, the tour was conducted in English as advertised, which we appreciated since that is what we had paid for. The tour itself was very comprehensive and engaging. The guide did an excellent job explaining the artworks and providing meaningful context about the paintings and the artists. It was informative and thoughtfully presented. However, at the very end of the tour, the guide made a remark while pointing at me and another participant, saying, “you should learn German.” We found this comment unnecessary and inappropriate, especially given that we had specifically booked and paid for an English tour. While the overall quality of the tour was very good, this comment left us feeling uncomfortable and diminished an otherwise positive experience. I hope the museum can ensure that all visitors feel respected, regardless of the language of the tour they choose. PS I still think it deserves 5 stars given that experience at the end.

This museum boasts varieties of amazing collections from the 19th century to the present. Most paintings and sculptures have no protections or fences so it might be difficult to visit here with very small children. I myself really enjoyed the exhibition and would like to come back again!

The Albertinum in Dresden is an absolute must-visit for art lovers! The museum's collection is impressive, showcasing a mix of classic and modern art that offers something for everyone. The layout is well thought out, making it easy to navigate and fully enjoy each piece. The building itself is beautiful, and the location right by the river adds to the experience. The staff is friendly and knowledgeable, and there's a relaxed atmosphere that makes it easy to take your time and really soak in the art. Highly recommended if you're in Dresden!

I saw the great exhibition of Caspar David Friedrich. It is well presented but quite busy. Some paintings were difficult to see due to reflections from the spotlights. The explanatory boards were often hard to read due to the white font on a black background.

If you like works of Max Klinger and Otto Dix, this is a right place to visit. Sculptures, pictures etc. There are tasty cakes in cafe. Therefore some moments were not ok: - museum workers could not answer questions about exposition, they clamed some sculptures to be originals, when there were clearly copies; - Mosaic hall is closed and you cannot visit it, but you still have to pay the full price for the ticket and it is expensive; - impessionists placed after the triptych of Otto Dix. It is weird placement as the triptych carries a lot of emotionsl weight and it is complicated to enjoy impressionists pictures after it; - bags policy.

Interesting collection of mostly local German art going back to the 18th century, if you have a keen interest in that it's right up your alley, if you are a "normal" tourist you might find this to be quite overpriced for what it has to offer. The building looks great on the outside and had a modern feel on the inside. As most museums in Germany and Austria it's quite frustrating to visit as there are no clear circuits of how to do it and you always get this feeling you missed something. The staff are a bit like hawks watching you but pictures are allowed everywhere, this is a big plus.

From Romanticism to contemporary art this collection of galleries houses some very interesting art. Set aside at least 2 hours to wander through its numerous rooms.

I was skeptical of this museum (and in particular the exhibit on the 2nd floor) after reading the introductory remarks which are full of typical postmodern art museum BS. That said I found the exhibit enjoyably interesting. 2 hrs here is enough for a quick stroll through the 3 floors. Spend more time on the 2nd. I used the Dresden Museum pass here.
