OK, listen. I was in this airport from 10AM to 5PM waiting for Chicago to get cleared of snow, and aside from wishing that I could, y'know, actually take my flight or go outside, I wasn't even that mad about it. Because the airport is that good a space to spend time in. When we first landed, I noticed it seemed calming, warm, with a distinct personality, and really clean. On the way out, there were museum shops I would've genuinely gone to if I had had time to go to a museum in Albuquerque. I understand many of them are newly opened. There was Indian Pueblo Kitchen, which had a truly delicious fry bread taco (and they made it vegetarian for me!). There was one of the best fancy-croissant-adaptations I have ever had at Cheese & Coffee (and I've baked them for a living). The food places all open at 4am, so there's good choice for early travelers. There's a spacious central place to sit right after security and within a 10-minute walk of the rest of this modest-sized airport, with different kinds of seating near the restaurants but an open area in the middle. And the TSA line took me 15 minutes total. It's still an airport, and small enough that if you miss your flight you may have to rebook the next day, but dang. I'd rather go there than a shopping mall. I'm home now but I kinda miss the airport!
