Aldea Kuká hotel | Isla Holbox, Isla Holbox | Quintana Roo | Smith Hotels

"Style Thatch made in heaven Setting Hammock-strewn Isla Holbox Explore More hotels in Isla Holbox More hotels in Mexico The way Mexico weaves artistry into the everyday is celebrated wholeheartedly at eco-friendly, boutique beachfront stay Aldea Kuká . The owners’ passion for and support of local makers is evident in the smallest details: say, the staff’s Kahlo-esque embroidered uniforms, the earthenware vases and hessian lampshades that make the wood-and-bamboo-built suites so characterful, and the eye-catching art provided by a native maker-in-residence each month. This, combined with Isla Holbox’s intoxicating beauty and laidback, take-it-easy nature makes for a fun and authentic stay. Honoured is the country’s love of a mezcal-sloshed knees-up, too: the owner throws a killer Day of the Dead bash. The hotel sits in a safe and quiet side of the island. The beach is stunning. The rooms are spacious. The staff is friendly and helpful. The food is delicious. The ambient is relaxing and warming. Had an amazing time during my stay. The chef and kitchen manager were incredible. I want to thank our waiter Luis Arturo for being attentive to our needs.

Extremely disappointing stay. The stench of sewage was unbearable from the moment we arrived. Staff kept insisting it was caused by seaweed (sargassum), but we could clearly see open pipes and workers fixing leaks inside the property.|We walked to nearby hotels and the smell completely disappeared, proving it was not related to the beach or the algae.|Customer service was rude and dismissive, refusing to acknowledge the issue or offer any refund. This is a serious sanitation problem, and I wouldn’t recommend this hotel to anyone. It is insane. Avoid taking your kids

My family and I spent the entire week at Hotel Aldea Kuká, and I can say without a doubt that it’s one of the places where we’ve experienced the kindest and most attentive service of any hotel we’ve ever stayed in. At reception, Mitch, Gladys, and Abigaíl; and in the restaurants, Eduardo, Israel, and Mike—all of them were truly dedicated to making us feel seen, welcome, and cared for.||I believe Holbox is a paradise. The beaches, the sandbars, the crystal-clear water, and the fact that you can walk hundreds of meters into the sea without the water rising above your knees—it’s honestly hard to put into words.||The hotel is beautiful and well-maintained. The beds are comfortable, and the view from the balcony is breathtaking. The food is excellent in all the restaurants, and the pool is also a lovely space where you can easily spend long stretches of time.||In short: the hotel is stunning, the location is divine, and the staff is absolutely wonderful. They genuinely go out of their way to make you happy, and if something goes wrong, they make sure to fix it immediately.||We were truly happy in Holbox, and that was largely thanks to the team at Hotel Aldea Kuká. Highly recommended.

Absolutely Terrible Experience — Avoid at All Costs This was by far the worst hotel experience I’ve ever had. The entire property reeked of what can only be described as a septic tank or rotting waste — the smell was unbearable. When we reported it, the staff claimed it was due to sargassum (seaweed), but that explanation made no sense — sargassum does not smell like sewage, and none of the nearby hotels had the same issue. We even saw workers dealing with the pipes, which clearly pointed to an internal plumbing problem. We spoke to multiple staff members, the hotel manager, and even reached out to the CEO, but no one offered a real solution or any compensation. It honestly felt like they only cared about keeping our money, not about our experience. I would never recommend this hotel to anyone.

Google
Location is beautiful and the hotel looks very stylish and enployees want to be helfpul but there are some basics that haven’t been thought about: 1) it’s impossible to sleep because of noise from outside (due to taxis passing by and room having zero sound isolation); 2) washing machine from below feels like a consistent earthquake (see video). 3) too many untrained staff (we have asked 3 times to make sure the fish is cooked due to pregnancy and yet after waiting like an hour we still were brought raw fish) Just because you position your hotel as authentic eco experience doesn’t mean you should be saving on such fundamental things. Definitely not a 5 star experience.

Horrible smell and lies — stay away from this hotel! Terrible experience! The whole hotel smells like raw sewage, and the staff keeps lying saying it’s “natural.” It’s not — we saw broken pipes and construction work everywhere. They refused to cancel or compensate us. Don’t fall for this scam, this place is completely unhealthy and dishonest.

Google
This hotel is asking for a daily beach deck chair at 1600$ per person + 15% service on top. Ridiculous. Robbers, they just want money. Avoid it. Can't say about the rooms, our interest was on the beach access only

Before I get into the details below, you should know that this is a great hotel. The pictures represent it properly, the food is outstanding, it is beautiful. I was hesitant to give it five stars only because it is supposed to be luxury and was priced as such and there were just enough little things that are such easy fixes that I opted not to. ||The property is beautiful. Our room was Palma Real 1, which we saw somewhere as a recommended room. It was just as lovely as the pictures if not even a bit better. It had two levels and three bathrooms! More spacious than apartments I have lived in! It had three little sitting areas, two balcony/porches/a full kitchen and dining table which we didn't use. It isn't quite ocean view. There is a little balcony on the top floor where you can sit and see the ocean but there is a row of rooms in front - not blocking view but creating more distance so you can't really call it oceanfront and I even feel like ocean view is a stretch, but I guess there is in fact a way to see the ocean from this balcony. ||There are not many places to put your clothes in any of the rooms in PR 1. We just used the couches since our lounge time was spent outside rather than inside on the couch. This was not a big problem but perhaps a little bit strange. The upstairs room had a clothes rack with maybe ten total hangers. We just had piles of clothes on the couch and table. There was ample space - like an impressive amount - so room for a dresser or several. Definitely get a top floor room. There is always noise at night in Holbox but nicer to at least avoid footsteps from the people above you. We slept great despite the outside noise. The beds were very comfortable. There is no mirror except for a magnifying mirror in the upstairs bedroom/bathroom. We didn't mind but it led our daughters to demand the downstairs bathroom where there is a double sink and large mirror. I mention this only because I am trying to offer details that may impact your experience. For us the small mirror was not a problem although I also think is is pretty standard for bathrooms in luxury hotels to have mirrors. ||The beach is marvelous. When we were there, there was not an overwhelming amount of sargassum. Don't really mind it anyway since it is just kind of a natural part of the ocean, but not having as much there was a bonus because it doesn't smell amazing. The beach beds and umbrellas and seating were always available and comfortable. This is the first time in Mexico that we didn't have to awake at daybreak to safely reserve a good spot. ||I love the hotel's location as it relates to the island as a whole. The walk to more action and dining options is easy, but you are at the end of the island where the volume of people is less so that you can opt in for more crowds if you choose. ||We felt like we were always thirsty for water. Water is harder to come by at this property and if you want any, you are pretty consistently upsold on a lovely glass bottle of water rather than just receiving a glass of water. Still not a deal breaker but if we stay there again, we plan to buy our own waters from the market and keep them in the fridge so we can stay hydrated without it being just a little more difficult than it should be to get water. Seems like abundant complimentary water access is something this property should be able to offer. Have had this at every other hotel we have stayed in in Mexico. Costs very little and the convenience to drink water without feeling like you're being asked to pay for it all the time would have made a big difference for us. ||We found the majority of servers to be more aloof than other properties and tipping was sort of an odd system. The recommended amounts were always based on a percentage of the meal cost. I waited tables for years in the United States so I am familiar with tipping based on a percentage, but in Mexico we prefer to tip in cash and offer tips for every meal and round of drinks to our individual server, and the vibe just was more prohibitive than that. I am having a hard time explaining it but you'll know what I mean when you're there. If you also like to tip in cash, bring small bills since it was impossible to get change for larger bills from the front desk or from the bar. We did enjoy interacting with Luis Alberto and Santiago specifically as they were always friendly and helpful. ||The fire show is every night. It is cool once or twice mostly for the vibe and lounge areas, and fire at night is always mesmerizing. We only watched it twice over the course of the week as it is basically the same every night. The performers are talented - no complaints about the show - we just walked around in town and on the beach at night the other nights. ||The pool is great. The black tile is sleek. Not huge but never felt crowded. We usually retreated from the beach to the pool after lunch since there are shady spots in the afternoon in the pool where the sun is blocked by a building. ||So, in summary - the hotel is really quite gorgeous and the food is exceptional. We ate breakfast there every day and a few additional meals. Would be great to be able to access water more easily, have dressers to put our clothes in, and just a generally warmer reception from all employees. Before booking we couldn't possibly understand why this hotel didn't rank highly on Trip Advisor compared to others. I guess I would say for the cost and the "luxury" description, there are just enough things keeping me from giving it 5 stars. You won't regret staying there, but if your experience is like ours, you'll be a bit hesitant to give it the highest possible rating. A few simple improvements - mainly customer service related along with a couple of dressers - would tip us to a five star review.

Yelp
There were 3 giant MOUSE in the hotel hallway and 2 MOUSE in our room eating our cookies!! Worst hotel manager Anahi makes a terrible job here and messed up everywhere in the hotel!! NEVER GO TO THIS HOTEL

Yelp
This is basically an issue overpriced hostel. The rooms are only to take pictures, when it comes time for rest us way too loud. You can hear everything the other rooms are saying. Don't recommend.

Yelp
Absolutely gorgeous! The rooms are outstanding- we upgraded to the two story room overlooking the pool and ocean and are glad we did. The staff is so friendly and accommodating. The restaurants are some of the best on the island. The downside was it rained a lot but luckily we had a great restaurant and room right at the hotel.

Yelp
This property has so much potential. It's a beautiful setting in a beautiful place. What they don't have is any customer service. The operation run at this resort is lacking at all levels. Rude, abrupt, unapologetic...it is obvious that there is lack of management and training. Every meal, there was a mistake with our bill. Every time we had to deal with the front desk, they treated us like a problem, no smiles, and very little resolutions, never any apologies. We stayed in the Presidential Suite. The most expensive and nicest room on the property. One evening, security came and pounded on the door as if he was going to break the door down and raid our suite. He proceeded so say we couldn't talk in our room and had to go to bed. WTF! We were a group of grown women. There is no excuse for anyone to make us feel threatened and unsafe in our room. The way he approached us was unacceptable and horrifying. I've travelled around the world and stayed at some of the many nice hotels for my work. Never have I expected such a low level of customer service. What's needed here is a hotel consultant to go in and rework the way this hotel is run. So much potential...

Yelp
The place is a mini paradise within a paradise. The rooms were comfortable, the property itself is very clean, amazing food and a relaxing pool that was absolutely breathtaking. My only honest opinion was that the service could have been better.I would come back again and I'd absolutely recommend to take a chance here.

Yelp
WARNING: Booked for a magical Christmas week, but got diagnosed with COVID-19 two days before and of course had to quarantine. Two weeks of unresponsiveness from this hotel following my cancellation, only for them to tell me that they would keep my money rather than give me a refund. I would not recommend a place profiting off of people who come down with COVID. Beautiful sure, but a hotel is nothing without compassionate customer service. I will never book there again.
