Today we followed the Mayan cooking class from Rosy and Irma. It was simply amazing! We showed up an hour early, due to us not knowing there was a time difference (oops!). But the people at Aldea Xbatun welcomed us warmly and we started cooking quickly. We were the only ones there and everything was explained well. Even though our Spanish is limited, they made sure we understood everything. We also got to tour the property and see where most products used came from! The food itself was amazing, the family so nice and accommodating. So great to learn more about the Mayan cuisine. We were even more happy they shared the recipes with us afterwards. Big thanks for this amazing experience, we recommend it to everyone!

We had a GREAT time with these ladies! They’re really sweet and kind. We had lunch with them. The kids even ate things they don’t normally because they enjoyed making it themselves. We had a tour of their grounds to see the various plants they use for food, see their chickens, and pet their dog Melissa. We helped shape the tortillas and mashed our own salsas. We’d definitely recommend the experience!

An enriching and unforgettable experience. This is so much more than a cooking class, it’s also an insight into the lives of this lovely Maya family. Firstly the communication with Jose via WhatsApp to arrange the cooking class was excellent. When I arrived at Aldea X-Batun I received a lovely welcome from Rosy and her mother Irma, my teachers. We got to work quite quickly making the marinade for the chicken dish and roasting the pumpkin seeds. Whilst the pumpkin seeds were cooling Rosy gave me a tour of what is essentially their little farm. They grow a lot of the ingredients we used in the dishes. The we returned to the cooking, making more dishes. I sat with Irma to learn how to make tortillas. Type whole class was really well planned, the time flew by! The class was in Spanish and I knew enough to understand. I enjoyed listening to Rosy and Irma talking, as they only spoke in Maya with each other. They also taught me a few words. It was a privilege to spend time with this very kind and gentle family.

This was the highlight of my trip to Valladolid/Merida, Mx. Not only did we get an outstanding Yucatecan culinary learning experience with a delicious 5 course meal but also Señora Irma and her family were the warmest most gracious and welcoming hosts and teachers. I would 100% recommend this to anyone that fell in love with Yucatecan cuisine and Mayan culture and customs.

This cooking class is an absolute must! From the moment we arrived, the family welcomed us with incredible warmth and hospitality. The meal we prepared was both delicious and greatly varied. The evening had such a lively and joyful atmosphere; we laughed, danced, and had an unforgettable experience. If you're near Valladolid, this is definitely an activity you don't want to miss!

I highly recommend taking advantage of this experience of an authentic cooking class with this beautiful Mayan family. We spent the day nestled under the comfort of a thatched roof while cooking over an open fire and by burying a delicious chicken stew in a pit in the ground for almost 2 hours. Our hosts were friendly and gracious, and felt like family by the time we left. The food was remarkable and paired with the best margarita I have ever had. We started by learning how to make three amazing appetizers and rounded out with a delicious dessert of cacao and a sweet liquor. The main entree was a remarkable stew of chicken and a series of mystery spices that absolutely teased the palate. We have the recipes and we will do our best to re-create them, though it won't have that same authentic feel as the thatched roof.

Imagine to cook an authentic mayan meal in the middle of the Yucatan peninsula. This is what this experience is, and I felt so lucky to discover this place! It is a bit remore, so make sure to take the right way to the restaurant. The staff is super friendly and authentic. They are happy to share their stories and their mayan culture. The food is incredibly good! Me and my wife learned so much, I can't wait to try the recipes at home. And the place is surrounded by silence and peace. It was a unique experience that I would suggest to all my friend.

We had a cooking class with Doña Irma and her family. They are amazingly warm, fun, and of course great cooks. They were very patient with my partner (who's learning to speak spanish). We experienced genuine hospitality and great food. If you like to learn about food and culture, I highly recommend their class.
