ALDEA XBATUN. Mayan Cooking Class.

This was a wonderful experience! The cooking classes are very well organized. They walk you through how to make a large number of dishes but you're basically cooking and eating without any downtime to wait for longer dishes to be ready. Everything was delicious, they accommodated our food preferences (but we did schedule ahead of time through their website/Whatsapp), and everyone working there was extremely nice and welcoming. I'm looking forward to replicating at home some of what we learned :)

We had a wonderful experience at Aldea Xbatun. The family was very accommodating of the fact that we were vegetarian and we spoke little Spanish. They spoke slower and showed us how to make the dishes patiently. The dishes themselves were so tasty. They showed where they grew their vegetables on their farm. We had a very relaxing afternoon cooking as a family.

The cooking class was absolutely amazing! We were there a few weeks ago. What an awesome family and such a great experience to learn culture and cuisine. I highly recommend this for anyone. My wife is still talking about what a great time we had!

Honestly the best food we have had in our two weeks on holiday in Mexico, and we left lunch so full we didn’t eat for the rest of the day. We enjoyed the food so much we also went to their restaurant in town the next day. It was also really interesting to be taught (even if for only a few hours) an entirely different type of cuisine to that which we know. Beautiful setting and everyone couldn’t have been nicer.

Unmissable experience when in Valladolid - food is culture and love and this family (mainly girls in the Casa, all adorable) is really sharing their immense knowledge and kindness with you. We went there for the ancestral dinner which I recommend or otherwise you can book for a cooking class, depending on how much time you can dedicate. Location is not walking distance but ask them for a driver contact to pick you up. Amazing experience!

Today we followed the Mayan cooking class from Rosy and Irma. It was simply amazing! We showed up an hour early, due to us not knowing there was a time difference (oops!). But the people at Aldea Xbatun welcomed us warmly and we started cooking quickly. We were the only ones there and everything was explained well. Even though our Spanish is limited, they made sure we understood everything. We also got to tour the property and see where most products used came from! The food itself was amazing, the family so nice and accommodating. So great to learn more about the Mayan cuisine. We were even more happy they shared the recipes with us afterwards. Big thanks for this amazing experience, we recommend it to everyone!

My family had the best experience from reservation on WhatsApp to arrival welcome from the family. We have enjoyed the traditional cooking class (family of 7 with small kids), lunch reservation and lesson (2-5 people with babies) and we keep coming back. The hospitality is excellent and the food so flavorful and filling. The conversation flows from Spanish, English, and Mayan and with ease thru make you feel welcome. Highly recommend this experience. Tip, ask for taxi recommendations (or drive yourself) as it a rustic dirt road to arrive to Aldea X-batun. We loved that they offered a to- go option as my older kids (8 and 6) were full after the ecamisado option.

I highly recommend taking advantage of this experience of an authentic cooking class with this beautiful Mayan family. We spent the day nestled under the comfort of a thatched roof while cooking over an open fire and by burying a delicious chicken stew in a pit in the ground for almost 2 hours. Our hosts were friendly and gracious, and felt like family by the time we left. The food was remarkable and paired with the best margarita I have ever had. We started by learning how to make three amazing appetizers and rounded out with a delicious dessert of cacao and a sweet liquor. The main entree was a remarkable stew of chicken and a series of mystery spices that absolutely teased the palate. We have the recipes and we will do our best to re-create them, though it won't have that same authentic feel as the thatched roof.
