Aldeia da Cuada is perhaps the best place to stay on Flores. It is a very nice and authentic place indeed (a village transformed into a hotel), and we strongly recommend it despite some shortcomings. The staff is extremely helpful and nice, the house we had during our 3-night stay (called Xavier) was cosy and stylish. The surroundings are great, and the pool is a nice addition. These are important things on Flores which is a beautiful island but perhaps the least enjoyable (and the only suffocating one) we have seen in the Azores (of the 5 islands we know), with Instagram crowds and trekkers, surly local people apparently getting fed up with Instagram crowds (and we speak Portuguese), all services far beyond their capacity, and serious supply issues in run-down supermarkets (the only exception being Hélio's at Lajes).||The reasons we don't give five stars to Aldeia da Cuada are small things which could be improved with some attention: an umbrella in the room (on an island where it constantly rains) to get to the restaurant, the garbage cans which should be emptied automatically (and not upon request) every day (or 2 days), the filtered water bottle which should be filled up automatically, too, otherwise it's not of much use. The dehumidifier is small, the environment is EXTREMELY humid, thus its water tank fills up in 3-4 hours, then it stops. The kitchen is functional, but there was no chopping board, salt or oil, and since you are far away from any grocery stores, it's a bit of a nuisance to do extra trips for supplies, especially that cooking may be the only option to survice, as you have no chance to eat at the hotel restaurant without booking ahead well in time. ||One comment: the hotel charges 70 euros for breakfast for 2 adults and 2 children (6 and 10y old), which is definitely steep even if we consider logistics and supply issues.||All in all, a nice place on an island where we don't really want to go back.
