It’s such an enchanting place to stay with magical pathways and stone steps weaving between the scattered hotel rooms, the restaurant, the swimming pool and rocky sea access. It was wonderful to explore the grounds and to clamber over rocks to reach the sea bathing areas. The restaurant served some of the best food we had on our travels around The Azores. ||However the rooms need complete renovation. The first room we were offered (a deluxe) was like a dungeon with the remnants of a waste repair immediately outside. We asked for an alternative and were shown to and accepted the only room available. The room smelt strongly of mildew, there was an ant trap in the wardrobe, the radiator had been removed from the bathroom and only the pipes remained, the fan didn’t work and there was a strange little door. Fortunately the bedlinen and towels were fresh and clean. The location was quite isolated so that if you don’t have a hire car you can’t even get to a supermarket or alternative restaurants.||We spent a week in The Azores, travelling between four islands and that room was the only bad element of the holiday. Hopefully the hotel will be renovated in the future as it has so much potential to be an amazing hotel and we’d love to come back to enjoy this magical place.

If you like dated rooms, overgrown plants and poor maintenance you will love this place. This place must have been something to see ten years ago, but sadly, now it is dilapidated. Our rooms had cracks in the walls, sink stopper would not work, fawcet would not switch to shower mode. A safe in one room but not the other. The ground are not kept at all, leaves everywhere and plants taking over. Non functioning fountains everywhere. Getting to the pool is a nightmare and not worth because of dirt and broken tiles. The only saving grace at this hotel was the restaurant, atmosphere and staff at the restaurant were great.

- Found 2 cockeoaches in the room - Location is beautiful, but rooms are dark and only contain one tiny window. Contained only shampoo but no conditioner. They provided a kettle but no tea or coffee in rooms. They did not come to clean the room even once, and we stayed for 4 days. - Breakfast was really not up to 4 star standards. Very limited in terms of options. - Dinner was ok, with friendly staff.

Beautiful location. Rustic. Clean. Spacious room. With both a bedroom and large sitting room. Our room was ocean facing. Listened to the sound of crashing waves and gentle blowing breeze at night. Very quiet with windows shut. We ate at the restaurant 2 evenings and had great meals and desserts. Great mattresses. Nice hot shower. Good breakfast. Overall quiet.

First off. The location is beautiful. I’ve never been to a hotel located on such a beautiful spot. But the rest….the rooms are old, the bed is terrible and makes your back hurt since the matress is too thin, we had ants all over the place including in our bed and we had many sweaty nights because of the lack of airconditioning or ventilation.

A hotel with a character of its own overlooking the Atlantic on the south coast of Pico, some 2-3 kms from the lovely town of Lajes. The rooms are very individual and quiet. Staff are very friendly. The hotel restaurant is one of the best that I found during my 3 week trip to the Azores

I was there on May 12th. Room prices are expensive for a solo stay. Don't take a suite for extra comfort. Because the "suite" is a small appartement with an etra bed in the living room. And the beds remain horrible, worst night I had in years. Cheap foam matress, as hard as concrete. Plus I have been charged 2 times for the room on my credit card. Waiting to be reimbursed for this "error"... Food is OK.

Restaurant was OK, breakfast sadly plain bad. Big room. Everything Looks a little bit old ("Vintage"). Really nice plants + Look at the sea.

Yelp
This hotel is nice and in a beautiful coastal location. Our room was #7 with perk-a-boo views of the ocean outside our room in the seating area. It was overly perfumed, so we had to keep the window open and door when possible. There is NO a/c, and the window tips open, maybe 30 degrees. We had to put the blankets in the closet under our beds bottom sheet because the mattress was extremely hard. The kitchen area had a nice fridge and kettle, no towel or wash cloth. The pool was extremely difficult to find because no one would take the time to show us. The second day, we had to use google maps to locate it. Find room 11A or B. You follow the sign to the sea and find the blue ropes. You will also see a steep path down to the ladder where you can swim in the ocean. Continuing to the pool you need to go past the green landing with chairs, more blue ropes and go past a house with a short wall. Finally, at the pool, the view is beautiful. The pool is in disrepair and cloudy water, which was concerning. Staff was nice, but little English spoken. No wash clothes in the room, but that is common. Breakfast had some great choices of fruit and the usual. Dinner was great. The cod and octopus plate was yummy. Filet mignon was also very good as was the lapas. All in all it was a nice place, just needs a little elbow grease.

Yelp
This hotel is absolutely stunning. I went during the off season, so it was about half the regular price. It's relatively well maintained and the views are unbeatable. It was built outside of town along the water, so it's very private. You can walk along the "sea trail" that the hotel built and arrive at a number of ocean overlooks. One of them is right next to the water and you can climb down a ladder to go swimming. The breakfast was good and the staff were friendly. The dinner was especially nice and included lots of local produce.

Yelp
This is a great stop for lunch (or dinner depending on the time when you pass by) on a self-drive-around-the-island tour. We were driving on the main road that goes around the island and didn't see many restaurant options after Madarena on our drive eastward, and so when we saw the "restaurant" and " hotel" signs on the road at around lunch time we just turned right and followed the sign down the slope for about 600 meters before we reached this restaurant inside a 4-star hotel. There were at least 20 people already there sitting indoor and outdoor eating or waiting for their meals. We got an outdoor table and ordered a vegetable soup each plus a mixed meat kabob which came with chicken, pork, and beef (all from this island) main course and a fried fish filet main course. I enjoyed the kabob but the fried fish filet wasn't as well done as the fish didn't have much taste. After the meal we ordered a scoop of pistachio gelato which was quite refreshing. If I return again I would like to try the octopus cooked in clay pot as the restaurant seems to offer a few good traditional dishes on the menu.

Yelp
Fabulous place. 1st class service. Great variety of food types including local, Chinese and American. Deserts are to die for. Awesome wine list. Reasonable prices.
