I have stayed here with my teenage son for four winters now, and it’s our first choice when we are skiing at Heavenly. Location is terrific, with easy mountain access by shuttle and plenty of food options within walking distance or a short drive away. Rooms are consistently warm and clean, with extra towels and amenities as needed. Overall, a terrific value. And best part has always been the responsiveness of the staff to help as possible with reservations, requests and changes to plans. Sam has made the hotel planning part of our ski trips a breeze, and we are so appreciative of all he does. We’re already looking forward to our next trip soon!

Very close to heavenly ski resort and lots of food options since it’s in the heart of the city. Walkable distance from lakefront as well. Received check in details late and it took a while to reach the front desk number since it was closed at around 4.30 PM. But overall a good place to stay.

Google
A lovely and cozy family owned hotel. It’s convenient to all that South Lake Tahoe has to offer, but is just a short drive to more northern activities too! It was a comfy place to rest my head, and weary bones! Sam, owner/manager, was SUPER helpful when illness struck on my intended visit. They worked with me to reschedule and helped with rebooking accommodations!

I rarely leave negative reviews, but I must warn other people that we found LIVE BED BUGS in our room and Alder Inn would not give us a refund despite all the proofs we’ve sent them. We immediately left the hotel. It was exhausting to deal with this after a 12-hour drive from another state. We were hoping to take a break at Alder Inn and continue our drive with our little toddler the next day to our destination, but Alder Inn couldn’t help us find a resolution. At first, they moved us to a different room, which was the only other available room, but we still found bedbug castings and blood stains so we didn’t want to take our chances. Their sister hotel was fully booked so we had no other option, but to leave immediately. See pictures attached. I have dealt with bed bugs years ago in a college apartment so I know what they are like. Our check-in was on 12/22/24. It’s been over a month and they still have not done anything or given us a refund.

I booked a room last minute, hoping for a decent stay, but was disappointed. The weather stripping on the door was coming off, allowing a cold draft into the room despite outside temperatures being around 20 degrees. The shower controls were hooked up backward, making it frustrating to adjust the water temperature. I initially had good communication with the contact number listed on the site, but after reporting these issues, Sam completely ignored my messages, even though he had responded promptly earlier. I wouldn’t recommend this place go down the road for a much better experience. Update: after finally get ahold of someone at the hotel email. I was told they were checking into the claims. A week later no response, I emailed again no response. Don’t waste your time and money here, they don’t care about you.

Overall nice room. Was pretty difficult to get in once arriving. The email instructions directed us to a lobby that didn’t exist. The manager was pretty helpful in the phone, but I only got in after struggling to scan my ID using a browser camera that wasn’t working very well, and then waiting for several minutes to get a code. Also, there was pretty loud jackhammering, only during the day though.

This was an absolute nightmare. After a 10-hour drive, we arrived at our booked accommodation around 11pm, only to discover a disaster waiting for us. The room was not what we had reserved and paid for, it was rundown, full of broken fixtures, and dirty. There was no A/C despite having booked and paid for a room that included one. Every power point was faulty, with plugs falling out. The water pressure was abysmal. Worse still, both the shower and bed were dirty, with hairs (including pubic) found is multiple places. The room was in complete disrepair, from peeling paint to frayed carpets, and the bed—on wheels—creaked and shifted at the slightest movement. Exhausted, we contacted the inn immediately, asking for either a refund or to be moved to a room that matched what we had paid for. They refused, claiming they were fully booked, and denied us a refund unless we left that night—at 11pm, with no place to go! We had no choice but to endure one miserable night there. The next day, we quickly left and found alternative accommodation. Despite following up for weeks, we were met with delayed responses and poor communication. They finally offered a partial refund for the night we didn’t stay but forced us to pay for the night we did. Even though they rebooked our room for the next night, they charged us for part of it. Then, they simply stopped responding. This place isn’t just disappointing; it’s near criminal. The terrible customer service alone is reason enough to avoid it. Save yourself the trouble—stay elsewhere!

Room was nice and clean. I was only disappointed by the lack of hot water to enjoy a nice soak in.. my morning shower was luke-warm, at best. Checkout being 10 am, inconvenient. I’ll go elsewhere in the future.

Yelp
This lodging in South Lake Tahoe could takes a few pages from what a fantastic host strives to be. The rooms are simple, accommodating, close to just about everything and accepts pets. The host, Sam, did everything he could possibly due to accommodate my ever changing check out date. To ask for anything was never a problem. When I say the room was simple, I mean that there was every needed thing. High grade pod coffee with maker, tons of extra pillows, an extremely comfortable chaise lounge next ot the bed, and a doggy area steps away from my room. The simple part is only that it's not a suite. I cannot stress enough how they went out of their way to make me comfortable. Also, did I say..? It's less than a mile from premium skiing. There are several fantastic restaurants from Mexican food to pancakes. Delivery service is easy from all of them including Safeway for groceries. Thanks to Sam and all his staff!

Diego S.

Yelp
They were able to help accommodate me so well! Quick phone call and they helped me get an iron and iron board after staff had left. They also let me do a late check out on the morning of my last day. They were super hospitable. Room was clean and in good conditions. Thank you Alder Inn!

Jennifer W.

Yelp
It was okay. Pretty good for about $150/night during peak summer season. Near the beach. Practically next to whole foods. Good location. Be pre-warned. No communal area as there's NO hot tub/pool because that entire area is CLOSED and it seems like there are no plans for immediate repairs. No A/C so open your windows at night. Minimal communal outside area and no fire-pits that were well-kept enough for s'mores, but there is security cameras otherwise I would not leave a window open all night. Amenities included generous amount of clean towels (you will need this) and coffee machine and robes which I tend to steer clear of. Not bad for an inn but also, not the greatest. For a quick 2-3 night stay. Do-able. I just wish the pool was open and that area was renovated. But overall. Not the worst in Tahoe.

Angel H.

Yelp
Thank you! We were very impressed by your willingness to refund us because I wanted the pool and did know it was out of commission. We really appreciated that level of customer service. It is why we stayed. Glad we did. The room is pleasant and clean. The property is clean and has fun fire pit, giant connect 4 and corn hole. The only thing we would have appreciated is alarm clock or and USB charging station. Our phones died and we were worried about not checking out on time. We loved the property. Very fun and we can't wait to come back. NO smoking on entire property smoker peeps. Close to beach and Casino. Thai place in ski run is amazing!!! Lots of great places to eat within walking distance!!! Great communication by staff here and loved the contactless check in!!!! No waiting for other people in line to check in was amazing!!!!!

Sofia L.

Yelp
This place was horrible. The pictures made it look nicer than what it really is. No A/C, the floor is dirty, the lights were very dim in the room. I have bad allergies to dust and even though it seems like the room was cleaned there is something off because I couldn't sleep at night, tossing and turning with a runny nose and sneezing constantly. The fridge barely works. For the price you're paying is outrageous!! This is a motel

Yelp
We stayed at the Alder Inn in September, 2023. We had a great stay. The checkin process was streamlined. We got a text message with everything we needed to checkin. The location is convenient, near grocery stores, restaurants, parks. The room had a comfortable bed and pillows. We vacation a few times a year, and it is rare that we find a comfortable bed, but this one was just right, not too hard, not too soft. We sank into the bed and pillows and got good sleep. We had a good stay, and would stay again.

Candise O.

Yelp
If you like the pool pictures that are still on many sites, know that the pool and jacuzzi have been empty for over 2 yrs.. pool area is still there with trash in it. Room reeked of cigs , carpet sticky with dirt.. management refused to move us , although there were many rooms turned over while we were there... this contactless " management couldn't care less about customer service. It shows

Yelp
Our forever place to stay in Lake Tahoe! This was such a cozy place to stay at. Me and my husband really enjoyed it here. We wanted to send a special thank you to Sam for being so helpful with our questions and for being such a great host! Everything is clean and well taken care of. After long days of activities it was nice coming back to relax to such a comfortable place. If your ever in South Lake Tahoe this would be the place stay at! Thanks again! :) - Kim & David

Yelp
Stayed here thru an Airbnb. Knowing Tahoe in the summer , it is hard to find decent rates. This place worked out so perfectly for me and my friends. It's not big, but it's free parking, self check in, and literally across from kings beach. A 15 drive to sand harbor! Score. Place was clean and really all you needed for a one night stay. When communicating with the owner, they were super responsive. I had no problems with anyone while staying. Would recommend !

Yelp
My Husband and I stayed here a few nights. Loved the easy check in. It was very clean and quiet, and close to all the places we went. We wish our unit had A/C. We did use the fan, but it was still pretty warm. I believe that it is under new management, and they have been working to get A/C in all the units. Sam the Owner, was very pleasant and accommodating. In time, they will have the pool and hot tub up and running. You have a great Inn Sam, keep up the good work! We will definitely come stay again!! Thank you Sam for a great stay!

Yelp
We recently booked a group stay through Hotels.com Jan 2023 for14,15 Jul 2023 during the celebrity golf tournament. Upon check in Sam said there was a problem with our reservations that was tied to the previous owner not forwarding our payment. Sam called his supervisor, they stated we must pay again and to do a simple chargeback to get a refund of the original amount paid. It was not that easy, after nearly 6 weeks 1 person out of 6 was able to complete the charge back. My repeated requests to discuss this refund process with Sam's supervisor was met with a NO, Sam was it! All refunds and 1 chargeback are now complete except Sam's supervisor put a hold on the only one that paid cash upon check it with a promise a refund was in the works. Sam tried to help but again he was not allowed to give me his supervisors cell number. In addition, Sam is so busy running a hotel apparently by himself he could not expedite the refunds or call me back on a status. The hotel has dilapidated parking with many holes or uneven asphalt making it dangerous for older folks. The buildings are older with outdated furnishings. In room 6 our refrigerator did not work, there was no AC and there was nobody in the office to request help. There was a housekeeping person available for more coffee. The exterior lights blasted in the room because the drapes had to be left cracked because it was so hot inside our room without Ac. To top it off the pool was not open. It saddens me to leave a negative report but if we had known I'm sure we would have stayed elsewhere. To date Sam's supervisor is holding the last guy's cash hostage because they think someone is trying to double dip refunds. Sam texted me yesterday because I asked again to speak to the supervisor, he said that's not their policy and he would call later. He said the same thing to Dillion neither one of us got a call back. Dillion has yet to talk to Sam or anybody else to get his authorized refund. I suggest reviewing any refund policies before booking with the supervisor's number. Sadly, I will not stay at Alder Inn!

Yelp
I hate leaving reviews like this, but some honesty is needed here. I felt duped by the photos provided online vs. what we saw/experienced in real life. - No A/C. When we arrived the temperature in our room was 79 and continued to climb up to 83. While there was a box fan and ceiling fan, unfortunately the position of the window and an outlet made it so that we could not put the box fan in the window to draw out the hot air. The ceiling fan was also switched to the "winter time" position, meaning that it was further dispersing the hot air. After flipping the switch, we could feel the breeze, unfortunately it wasn't a very strong one. The temperature in the room never got below 75 and for Tahoe during the summer, this is too uncomfortable. - The shower pressure is very inconsistent. It would randomly sputter and slowly diminish so that we would be standing nearly at the wall by the end of our quick 5-7 min showers. - The lighting was very dim throughout the room. Our bedside table lamps did not turn on. Our ceiling fan had one working lightbulb and the lighting above the sink was so dim that it made getting ready difficult. - The coffee machine showed viable signs of not being cleaned and only decaf coffee was provided in our room. Also the pictures show a pool and hot tub, but it was drained while we were there and by the looks of the weeds, the pool hasn't been open for years. With all these letdowns, I also can't help but complain about the price. For the 2 night stay it was $430. It's almost insulting. This place seems like it's under new management and they still have some work to do. The owner reaches out and is easy to get ahold of (just make sure you have signal) and you can't beat the location. I wish this place the best of luck but some modernizing is needed before we return.

Yelp
From the amazing customer service given by Sam to the detailed amenities, our stay was amazing! This is a very good hotel if you wanna come to Lake Tahoe for the snow , there are 2 beautiful sno parks about 20 min away from the hotel. There is a chipotle, five guys, taco bell, cvs, and much more all within walking distance. If you are a night owl they have a 24 hour safeway about a 4 minute drive from the hotel .The details to the towels, tissue and toilet paper all add a nice touch and show that they care. Also not having to wait in a line to check in after a long day of playing in the snow and just being able to walk in to ur room was pretty great ;)

Alex M.

Yelp
As other reviews have mentioned, with this hotel you get what you pay for. There is no AC or ice machines - but those were listed on the Airbnb profile before we booked. Room was clean, location was great. About a 15 min walk to Heavenly. Had all we really needed for a 2 night stay. Wouldn't stay for longer than that or if we planned to spend more time in the room than we did.

Anna O.

Yelp
First of all, I WOULD NOT have stayed here if I had the choice. My friend booked the hotel for two days for $550. That was a rip off to start with. It was freezing cold in the weekend we went, the heater worked like it's gonna fall apart any moment. The room and outside of hotel looked like rickety dilapidated structure that it's gonna collapse any moment. The bathroom was delightfully welcoming with a message of : "BE GOOD OR BE GONE" Way to go making the guests feel welcomed and cozy! Who puts a message like that in the bathroom of their hotel? I honestly don't even feel that it's a hotel, it's like a rickety-done-best-but-failed MOTEL! Lastly, the shower hardly had any hot water. In the chilly weather of Tahoe, a hot shower would be amazing, but no, the shower runs cold in the middle of the Bath and you will be kept freezing if you haven't already frozen. And yes, VERY FEW PARKING PLACES! Grab yours the very first and DO NOT MOVE YOUR CAR later. You likely won't find parking again. Here are the pictures of my stay:

Yelp
Thai place is right by everything. It small and cozy I love it. Nice and quiet. Sam very helpful is you need to reach out to him he assists you right away. I book it though Airbnb thank you again sam.

Yelp
Room is clean, easy check in and check out. Utility is simple but adequate. Couldn't ask for more.

Daniel B.

Yelp
They double charged me and are ignoring my calls to get my refund, nobody in the office was there during checking time.

Yelp
I had a great stay at Alder inn. The host made sure to txt us in case anything was needed in our room, I loved the easy check in process, the room was clean and the area quiet. The location is perfect due to several coffee places, about 5-8min away from heavenly, and it was 1min walking distance from the Tahoe brew fest.

Yelp
We originally booked this HOTEL on Booking.com for July 2021 but due to the fires in the area, we changed to June 2022 directly with the hotel. As it got closer to our stay, I started getting communication from Vacasa to complete my check-in. I have never heard of them so I did not give any info. I tried for weeks to contact the hotel directly but no answer and mailbox full. When we arrived, we found a deserted front office and no one around. I did get an email from Vacasa with the door code but not the room number. It was in a separate email. Once inside, we found the room to be not as pictured. It was still carpeted, it was dark, tiny side tables next to the bed and no place to eat. The light fixture above the sink was missing a bulb and the lights were yellow. There is no putting on makeup in this room! There was a ceiling fan above the bed and its lights were also yellow. The drapes appear to be hung inside out, paint was peeling on the bathroom door and film on the bathroom window is peeling. Most hotels (again that is what I booked) give you an amenities kit with lotion, shampoo, etc. Theirs included ear plugs! Obviously they've gotten complaints about noise! It was very quiet but only because there were only 3-4 rooms filled. I paid over $200/night for this place! Yes, there is a Keurig coffee maker in the room but only 3 pods were supplied. There were 2 of us staying for 3 nights. When I called Vacasa customer service to ask for more, they said they only supply a starter kit. I'd have to buy more at the store. I booked a hotel room, not an Airbnb! They now list partial AC. Unless they mean a fan, there is none. We were very displeased with our stay.

Marie J.

Yelp
Hello ????? Can you answer your phone or email!!!! Wow never in my life I experienced with that type of business. Could you please answer you PHONE I have been trying for month now wow unbelievable. They need a new management ASAP

Yelp
Two weeks ago, I decided to have a spur-of-the-moment weekend getaway to Tahoe. When browsing Yelp, I came across Alder Inn and after reading the reviews, I was happy to see they still had rooms available. This place could not be more spot on with offering bangs for your buck. For a reasonable price you get great service and clean, cozy rooms. The lady checking us in had called ahead of time to let us know our room was ready. Once we checked in, she gave us several recommendations for dinner and activities. There is still some room for improvement. The shower/bath was clean but pretty worn out. Their hot tub is less inviting as it is very exposed and clearly visible from almost all rooms, parking and the street. The heating in the room was encased with metal so when it started heating up, we heard loud bangs as the metal expanded. Not so much fun at 4am.

Yelp
I stayed here for one night with a friend on a short ski trip to South Lake Tahoe, and it was wonderful! Great location just a few minutes' drive from Heavenly Mtn. ski slopes, and near to great coffee places and ski rental shops. The room itself was clean, cozy, the bed was lovely and comfortable, nice powerful shower, efficient heating. There was a plentiful supply of tea and coffee, nice fluffy towels and bathrobes, and the hot tub outside was an added bonus. I loved relaxing in it and looking up at the stars... The check-in procedure was easy and contactless, there are handy digicode pads on the doors, the staff are friendly and responsive. All in all, it was a great little overnight stay :) Highly recommend the Alder Inn to anyone who wants to avoid the super touristy downtown South Lake Tahoe area.

Ray L.

Yelp
I have been coming to South Lake Tahoe for 30 plus years -it is my favorite place to be outside of Disneyland. However, all of my prior visits have been in vacation rentals booked through VRBO, and spent with free-loading family members who decided to come along and not pay their share. This past weekend, I decided to do something different, and book a hotel room through booking.com. After considering price, location, and amenities offered, the Alder Inn was the most logical choice for my one night visit to South Lake Tahoe. My family and I arrived at noon this past Saturday and asked Michael if it was OK if we checked in early. We wanted to place our personal items in the room before heading out to the beach. Not only was Michael able to accommodate our request, he did a fantastic job of recommending a few nearby places to try during our visit. In fact, we tried the beach that he recommended (Round Hill Pines Beach Resort), and my family and I had a blast. Now that is great customer service! As far as the location is concerned, The Alder Inn is conveniently located on Ski Run Blvd right off of HWY 50. Shopping is located nearby, and the beach is literally within walking distance. If you are not into walking, that is OK. The Alder Inn provided bikes for their guests. I had so much fun cruising down to the Lake and taking in the sights early on Sunday morning while my family was sleeping. Let's talk about the other fun things that The Alder Inn offers like a basketball hoop, dart board, horseshoe pit, heated pool, hot tub, ping pong table, fire pit, bocce ball, barbeque grill, etc. This place is truly a home away from home- only better because I don't have most of those things at my house. Needless to say, my 9 year old son and I had an awesome time enjoying the amenities that The Alder Inn provides for their guests. I would like to thank Michael and the rest of the staff at The Alder Inn for making my family and I's visit one to remember. The room was quaint, clean, comfortable, and the extra amenities were a nice touch. 5 stars from me--this place is great!

Xuub X.

Yelp
We reserved a room and immediately tried to make a change but the Alder Inn never got back to us so we decided to keep our reservation. Upon arrival the room was not clean. Sheets on the floor from previous guests. We had to shovel snow before we could park. A woman staying in another room came to help us shovel snow. She said the service at Alder sucks. We never get replies. They do not answer the phone. The room is dirty. Do not come here! Stay away.

Yelp
During a recent extended weekend to Tahoe, I was wrestling between staying at one of the Nevada-side casinos, one of the popular resorts or even the cheap Howard Johnson's or Best Western. In the past, I've stayed at several of these places. However, I had read many good reviews for the Alder Inn. It was slightly more expensive than the cheap hotels down the road, but more affordable than most of the resort hotels and casinos (plus you didn't have "resort fees" or "parking fees" to boot). So, when a room came open, I quickly booked it. I am so glad that I did! Simply put: The Alder Inn doesn't feel like staying in a hotel. It feels like staying in a guest room at a relative's house. The rooms are cozy, clean and everything that you need for a very good night's sleep in a popular tourist Mecca. LOCATION: Located on Ski Run Blvd, the Alder Inn has a great convenient location surrounded by tall trees. It is within a short walk of the lake as well as shops and restaurants located on Ski Run Blvd (including some great spots located a few blocks closer to the mountains). It is also about a mile away from Heavenly Village and the gondola. It is a great walk during the spring, summer or fall. In fact, if you're not carrying small children or too much equipment, this is even doable during ski season. ROOM: It is "cozy" and "homey." What can I say? It has everything that you expect in a hotel without feeling like you're in a hotel. Rooms are located upstairs and downstairs in three buildings. We stayed in the "Alice and Wonderland" queen suite. It had a nice and quirky ambiance without feeling at all outlandish. The room (including the bed and sheets) was clean and everything that you need was in the room. Our room had a nice television with cable. There is a Keurig in the room as well as a small refrigerator too. The bathroom was clean and the shower was fantastic! The heater works well too. There is NO AIR CONDITIONING; however, there are fans would probably suffice if you stayed during the summer anyway. Our trip was in September and it was cold outside (after having snowed that week). The only "negative" that I can think of was in the fact that our particular room was located next to the hot tub. The rooms are quite soundproof (and I was never bothered by the sound of people at the pool or hot tub). However, there was a humming sound at night -- probably from the heating pump for the pool and hot tub in the utility room next to us. It didn't bother me, but I know a few people who might take issue with it. STAFF: The Inn's staff was polite, friendly and helpful. When asked about our plans for the long weekend, we were offered some great tips and guidance. For instance, we were planning to take the Dixie II paddlewheel cruise across the lake (from Zephyr Cove in Nevada). The woman checking us in told us about a free shuttle that stops nearby that would take us to the cruise (and allow us to avoid the parking fee at Zephyr Cove). Brilliant! AMENITIES: The Inn's Wi-Fi worked well in our room. The hotel has a great hot tub, heated outdoor swimming pool as well as nice bicycles (free to use). The typical hotel things are provided too -- like ice, coffee, etc. I think that there was breakfast in the office, but we had a busy weekend of hiking, cruising, etc. on a schedule, so I never even tried to see what was available. There was a nice grill too -- and another guest put it to good use. We were considering a fishing expedition, so the grill would have been handy for that! CONCLUSION: I would certainly stay here again. In fact, I think that this will become our go-to lodging spot at Tahoe. The friendly staff, convenient location, clean rooms and ambiance made our stay considerably enjoyable!

Yelp
This review is a little late since my husband and I stayed there a few weeks ago but better late than never :) We absolutely love staying here! We've visited twice in the past 3 years and this place never disappoints. The location is central to all of our interests and the staff are friendly and helpful. The rooms are really clean and comfy, we've always gotten a like-home feel whenever we've stayed here. We look forward to returning next year.

Yelp
Rooms are decorated nicely, bed was very comfortable and i liked that it isnt on a main road...less traffic to deal with.

Yelp
Alder Inn reviews??? Their service was horrible. There was no sense of hospitality for the guests, even after encoutering multiple issues. Management was careless and did not any regard for us. There is a long list of issues we experienced and reported. They were unaccomdating and had a lack of interest in fixing anything. The worst part was having to deal with these issues while with my children. We had to worst experiences. It was a very unsatisfactory stay, and this hotel/motel needs to be reported, as well as shut down. These are my notes that i am reporting the Alder Inn with: Needed a pool code to get out of the pool's gate, No Hot water and she said,  "that's odd..." My response was yes odd that you are not supplying hot water to your guests and won't fix the issue... Bugs were in the room (ants and knats all over the bathroom). Ar about 9:30 pm she said she's "going to go buy bug spray" instead of other alternatives. This was very unprofessional, inappropriate, unacceptable, and when i told her the kids have asthma, plus allergies, she stated "there's non-allergenic types, of bug spray she could get..." There were so many dead, as well as alive bugs in the bathtub, hair all over the bath, and 2 different kinds of flying bugs... She overcharged and kept comparing their rates to other run down hotels/motels for the weekend. We were only there for a day and had reservations for another, wonderful hotel for the next 2 days, but payed the same for our one day there as we did for our two days at the other, great, and accomodating hotel (both were close to $500 but Alder was only for one day). The other hotel was like luxury compared to the dirty, bug infested, run down, Alder Inn. Can't believe my kids and i had to stay here. I can't believe the health inspector has not shut them down already. Fans were missing from one room and lights didnt work so we had to change rooms. Bulbs were out in the next room as well. Stated she couldn't do anything to accommodate us or reimburse anything, at all because it was out of her control. When we checked out she then said she was going to try to get us back $40 of almost $500, randomly,  conttadicting her previous statement(s). This was not a compensation, at all for all of the issues that occurred. She also stated that she could/would downgrade us for the same exact rate because she couldn't lower it. There was old rice crumbs in the refrigerator, and other things left from the previous guest(s). There were so many issues and we weren't there for the full day yet. This all happened WITHIN THE FIRST FEW HOURS.. The smoke alarm was broken and kept falling off the top of the door. They gave us old fans that barely worked and there was no AC (as advertised). TO TOP IT ALL OFF, SHE WOULDN'T GIVE ME A CORPORATE CONTACT BUT SAID TO BASICALLY EMAIL HER AT THE HOTELS EMAIL. SO RIDICULOUS! EXPERIENCE WAS BASICALLY FALSE ADVERTISEMENT, AND HORRIBLE CUSTOMER SERVICE, etc, etc, etc. Alder Inn was nowhere near worth the money spent for the one night. Almost ruined our trip... HORRIBLE, AND UNACCEPTABLE!

Yelp
We had a pleasant one-night stay at Alder Inn when we visited South Lake Tahoe for the weekend. Our double queen bedroom was cozy, the heater worked well (we ran into really windy and cold weather that weekend), and the bathroom was also clean. There was a microwave, mini-fridge, and small TV with cable as well. Lauren helped check us in, and because we were unfamiliar with the area, gave us suggestions on things to do, places to eat, and where to go. She was very friendly and hospitable, which we appreciated a lot. Alder Inn is a great bang-for-your-buck inn that raises the bar with their wonderful customer service (thank you Lauren) and their variety of free amenities, such as an outdoor ping pong table, an outdoor fire pit, and free bikes (with helmets!) for guests. I definitely recommend at least considering Alder Inn if you're looking for a place to stay during your South Lake Tahoe visit.

Yelp
This hotel has no air conditioning, iron, ironing board - I stayed in this horribly hot hotel with my family this past Sunday 7/25/21. We were assigned a room that had no ceiling fan and no air conditioning. It was over 85 degrees or higher outside and smokey outside. Since the smoke outside from the nearby fires made it hard to breathe, we couldn't open the window to our awfully hot room. I stayed here the previous weekend when it wasn't as hot and had a room with a ceiling fan and an oscillating fan which was somewhat doable. I will never stay here again! I'd rather pay for a room that us comfortable. I don't know how anyone can rate this hotel a 5 out of 5!

Yelp
My daughter wanted to celebrate her birthday in Lake Tahoe. A good friend recommended and helped make arrangements for us at the Alder Inn. We got in late Friday night and felt at home when we walked in the door. The fireplace was lit and the rooms were comfortable. On Saturday evening we played board games by the fire and made smore's outside. Lee at the front desk made sure we had everything we needed including bathrobes to enjoy the hot tub. The Alder is located near Heavenly and right around the corner from Whole Foods market. All that you need is right there! Thanks Alder Inn for a great weekend. Our daughter said it was her best birthday ever!

Yelp
Had to cancel a refundable reservation, and told I would receive my money back. I tried contacting the hotel and no one answered and I never received my money back. Had to go through my bank and fight it. Seems like a shady inn. Beware!!!

Yelp
Stayed here on my most recent Tahoe trip. I always get kind of nervous booking hotels I've never been to, or don't have a reference for, but this hotel turned out to be a really nice find. I talked to Laura the morning of our trip and booked a room (this was a last minute trip) and she happily answered all my questions and booked my room on the spot. We arrive to a cozy room, the shielded us from the very cold weather outside. The room was great. It was clean, we had lots of space, they had nice little amenities around, and we quickly crashed. This hotel was a great find. The walls were a bit thin, where you can hear your neighbors and people outside pretty easily, but outside of that I have no complaints for this hotel. I am so glad to have landed here.

Yelp
The location is everything! Right outside the hub of hotels which is exactly what we wanted.

Yelp
Alder inn was absolutely a great stay. My husband and I stayed here for 2 nights for our first anniversary of being married. The rooms were nice and cozy and the front office ladies were gems! So kind and helpful! The location of the inn is so close to everything! Food, shopping, the lake, and activities! We enjoyed our stay and we will most likely check in here again! Thank you alder inn!

Yelp
My husband and I came to Lake Tahoe for New Year's Eve and we made a mistake on the days we were staying at the hotel, we reserved 3 nights instead of 2 (each night was over 300 dlls because of the holidays) I went to the front desk this morning to tell them about the mistake and they said that they couldn't do anything, no refund and no credit for future visits, so we just lost over 300 dlls. I totally understand that they said no to a refund but also no for hotel credit? I think that's super unkind due to the room prices and all the COVID situation, we come very often to Lake Tahoe to ski and for sure we are never going to stay in this hotel again, sorry but you lose two very good customers. Don't stay here, there are many good hotels around here with better customer service.

Yelp
worse stay ever. Terrible customer service. The sheets were dirty there were spiderwebs on the windows. The curtains didn't block any light. The bathroom got flooded after one short shower. The heater didn't work and there was no AC. All that was provided was one thin blanket, it was freezing at night because there is no insulation at all. The walls and floor was paperthin you can hear every little noise. There is no one to talk to after 8 PM since office closes then. I explained the issue to the front desk and provided them with images, they said manager will call me however manager never reached out. They never apologized for any of the issues and had an excuse for every single one. This completely ruined my vacation and I don't understand how they have so great rating on yelp. this was horrible.

Yelp
Nice simple inn with a comfortable bed and all the amenities. The outdoor area is very nice, with patio tables, benches, and even a grill if you want to make your own food. The rooms aren't huge, but if you're in Tahoe hopefully you're spending your free time outside. The owners were quite nice, and let us park our car in the lot for a few additional hours after check out. Overall, I'd recommend it as a place to stay.

Yelp
The reason someone stays in a motel as opposed to a resort, other than usually lower cost, is because generally they have plans outside where they are staying, and are staying there to have a good night's sleep. We wanted to enjoy our stay at the Alder and the raving reviews on Booking.com, induced us to spend $711 including taxes, for three nights, to stay at this motel. Sadly, for all three nights, we suffered a miserable inability to have a good night's sleep. First, the motel had a really old mattress which caved in, in the middle, so we invariably both roll to the middle. We asked the motel if they could change mattresses but of course they couldn't... they said they added a topper. It felt exactly the same. We both tried our best to adjust and sleep, but simply couldn't. Second, the place has no air conditioning so one is forced to sleep with windows open, or suffer a smallish room with no air circulation (this seems like an old motel, likely 60s or 70s). It has an outdoor jacuzzi which it says is open from 10am to 10pm. However, on night 3, a group of people decided to throw a party in it until 3am, keeping everyone awake. We asked them to stop but they ignored us, so we called the hotel's emergency number. Someone answered and 20-30 mins later the noise stopped. The following morning, separately, another guest and the hotel's manager both took credit for stopping the late night party. Neither mattered, because we had lost yet another night's sleep. Frankly, between the mattress and the partying, at $711, it's inexcusable. As I mentioned at the outset, we wanted to enjoy the Alder, but after three nights of weak to no sleep, we were happy to escape. Take our advice, if you want to sleep, unless you're a glutton for punishment, please ignore the Booking comments... and go anywhere else... you won't regret it.

Yelp
My cousin and I stayed at this inn this past weekend in Tahoe. Everything is provided to you, the microwave, the mini fridge because normally those come with an extra cost. We didn't run into any issues and there's a pool along with a spa. It's definitely different from the other hotels we've been to!

Yelp
We found the room and motel to be as advertised and we have no complaints - except perhaps that the wifi was sometimes erratic. The room was clean, everything worked, and it was quiet despite having neighbors to the side and above. It was centrally located and convenient to wherever one might want to go. It was near the main strip but not on the main strip so not as busy or noisy. My wife unfortunately fell while cross country skiing and broke her wrist. We were told at the urgent care clinic that it would need to be straightened since the fracture was crooked. We needed to check out early to go to our own healthcare plan and Laura was kind enough to credit us for the nights we were not going to use. That was greatly appreciated. So the quality of the place plus the kindness of the management (owner) are great reasons to recommend this place.

Yelp
Great pace to stay! Clean rooms, nice pool, close to the water and lots to do on the property. Walking distance to the lake, shopping and food. Best part, the hot tub is open until 10!

Yelp
Absolutely spoiled vacation . The facility has in room 7 such a horrible bed and mattress that I and my my wife couldn't sleep all the night. My back hurts so much that I will probably visit a doctor. My last night at this hotel became a nightmare, I tried to sleep on a floor, in bath, and at the end I had to sleep in my car. Because of that I had to stop my mini vacation and start to go back home to LA. I had never had such a horrible experience before, my wife either ....

Yelp
Very clean and cozy place. Small family owned but you can tell they take pride on making you feel at home! I asked if they had any softer pillows because the ones were a little firm for my liking and they said they had 1 memory foam pillow they could get me. Definitely would stay here again! They even have complimentary plush robes and a keurig with cute mugs! Refrigerator and microwave also!

Yelp
This was a great room we got. The Cabin Theme is the same room with decorations you would find in a cabin. The owners would super helpful. Please make sure you speak to one of the owners when you are making the booking though. You can get their names off their website. There is one other person there, who we told we were coming for to celebrate our anniversary and she said everything would be in order. We booked the Cabin room but when we got there we found we were given the regular room. We arrived at 11 pm and were annoyed enough that we called the 24 hour phone number not realizing that it would be the owners who would get out of bed and come help us out. We were given the "Cabin" theme room. And the rest of the trip went well. We stayed for three days. If you are heading up there, please make sure you call ahead to confirm everything you want to do and see is open during the time of your visit. Even if they are open, and it just so happens that the winds are strong, they will have to be closed. So don't get your hopes to high. With the places we wanted to go see being closed for the aforementioned reason. We had decided to ask the owners what would be good things to go see. Each day we would ask what was a good place to go visit and were given very good advice with the weather taken into consideration. They have two dogs who love to smell and lick you till they are taken away. One is named "Sugar"! Awesome place! Awesome People! I definitely recommend.

Yelp
For a small motel the Alder Inn was really welcoming, very warming, and deserve this 4/5 stars. L O C A T I O N The Alder Inn is either 1 - 3 blocks away from everything tourist or someone on vacation needs. All of the ski resorts, ski and board rental shops, the beautiful pier, a lot of restaurants different, as well as a mile and a half from the casinos and more restaurants. As well as the downtown area with all the shopping centers F R O N T D E S K Before checking in I would call up to the hotel just to ask about the weather and a young lady named ALI always answered the phone and was always very very helpful! Upon arriving, she made sure to give me brochures of all of the attractions, nearby activities, restaurants and cafes. She even gave me a coupon pamphlet to a few of the shops (a few were old though, managers need to do something about). She made sure I had rose peddles, and champagne for the special occasion. Everything was on point! R O O M S E R V I C E This is were the Alder Inn lost their 5th star. I'm already a pretty neat guy, so I made sure to keep all of my things in order so that room service wouldn't have such a hard time and that's for every hotel. But this room service only came one time and the time they did come to put towels and fix the bed I had a "do not disturb"sign on the door. We didn't have fresh towels throughout the weekend, but if you just go to the front desk Ali will be more than happy to help you out! Overall, really enjoyed my stay here at the Alder Inn
