This hotel is a gem! A beautiful building with a rich family history, that keeps its style without succumbing to the bland beige geometry of contemporary decoration. The house was full of clocks! The room was comfortable and lively. The breakfast was honestly great, good variety. The staff is welcoming and made us feel right at home.

Very good value for money. Really charming old hotel. Very warm reception. Helpful and friendly staff. Excellent breakfast, for 5€. Great views. Top location. Swimming pool, secured parking is free of charge. I defenitely recommend this place.

Enjoy this hotel. It is a feeling of an old home with very nice facilities, including an outdoor pool. The only negatives that you have to be aware of is there is no air-conditioning and the rooms are very small. There is no desk in the rooms to do work. The Internet, however, is exceptional. The hosts were very gracious and arrange transportation to and from the Camino for me. I would recommend this place.

We had heard great things about hiking in the Bussaco forest so added an evening in Luso to our Portugal trip. We spent the evening at the Alegre Hotel. As others have written, it is an old world family run hotel 18 room hotel. It very much reminded me of places I have stayed in rural France. Everything about the hotel needs to be viewed in the context of what it is. The keys are old style heavy brass, the parlor spaces are rather dark with period furniture, the breakfast room walls are populated by a plethora of ticking clocks that only vaguely keep time, the rooms are high ceilinged, there is no air conditioning and heat in our room on a chilly evening was provided by an electric “wood stove” in the fireplace. All that being said, the bed was warm and comfortable, the bathroom pretty modern and clean, the view over the town from our balcony fantastic, the breakfast very good and the breakfast server very friendly. We left in the morning feeling that we had spent a pleasant evening in another era.

We stayed here on our Portuguese Camino walk. The place was very cute with lots of interesting curios acquired by the owner. We had dinner in town and the breakfast was at the hotel - both were great. The room looked out over a beautiful backyard and we left the windows up all night. On the walk to dinner we discovered the Luso fountains where people filled up dozens of large containers of water to take home. Luso has been a place where the special Properties of the water has drawn people for centuries. It is very pure. Very glad we stayed here.

Very Grand Historical Hotel with original features, the swimming pool and the gardens are stunning. Rooms clean and breakfast very good with plenty of choice and great coffee. The owner takes great pride in in small details which makes this a wonderful stay and the town of Luso is a natural spa town which leaves you feeling like you have visited a very special place. Highly recommend

The area is amazing with good restaurants & amazing views to check. The hotel is okay, but it is not soundproof at all. Someone stayed on the corridor really early in the morning talking on the phone and, if we didn't say something, we would have heard the whole conversation.

Our stay can be summed up in one word, Fantastic. Super friendly and efficiently run family establishment. It has been in the same family for 130 years. The house is an old mansion belonging to a Duke and was rented to a lady that ran it as a boarding house. In the 1930's her daughter and grandmother of the current owners managed to buy it. It looks out over the Luso village. They serve a great breakfast. Great value for money.
