"The Swedish Stonehenge Ales Stenar is a rock formation (in the shape of a ship, roughly) that sits atop a ridge on the coast of southern Sweden. There have been many comparisons to Stonehenge but there are no other connections other than they both have standing stones in a circle/oval. They've posted a few theories about why they exist which are worth a read. The short hike to the top of the ridge is easy enough and the views from the top provide sweeping views of the coast."

In different places on the boulders, you can see so-called cup marks. They are small chiselled, rounded depressions, common on boulders from stone-age graves such as dolmen or passage tombs. Archaeologists have found cup marks on the parts of the boulders which are not visible above ground. This entails that boulders from older graves were used when Ale's stones were erected.

Place about 1 hour from Malmo. Incredible location on the North Sea. Free entrance but paid parking nearby. Recommended

Very nice historic location with a scenic view. Good tourist restaurants around with good food to reasonable prices. 600 m uphill walk from the parking lot.

Hey everyone.. .Ales Stenar megaliths are located on the coast of the very south of Sweden. The relief near the coast gently undulates and cows graze in the pastures. Ales Stenar megaliths with an oval outline are placed in the form of a stone ship. There are several theories as to what Ales Stenar was for. One assumes that it was a kind of calendar that determined the days of the equinox with the help of the sun. Other than that it is a cult place or a tomb.

Impressive stone formation from the Vikings, oriented towards Solar Solstice sunrise and sunset and placed in a typical Viking boat shape. Besides this, the sight towards the ocean from the elevated hills are very nice.

It is a good place to explore if you have few hours. Please keep in mind that it has a lil bit of climb up hill to reach on top. Easy to do the climb up but if travelling with kids I would not recommend a barnvagn, better to carry them in chest carriers if works for you or kids can walk on there own. Mudy roads will make it difficult to push the barnvagn.. It has paid parking space with is quiet big. They also had toilets which is a plus as well. Also, one or two good café on the way which serve cake, pastry, waffles, shakes, ice creams etc.. Overall a good place to explore nature but do not expect much.

Beautiful area facing the north sea with a clear view to the island of Bornholm. Much worth the walk. In the harbor a whole array of kiosks, restaurants and shops as well as again a great view. Parking is good and inexpensive.

A well maintained ancient 'monument' Quite popular so some might like to get there early It's all open and free, children enjoy climbing on the stones. All to the backdrop of lovely sea views to one side and rolling hills on the other sides. Well worth a visit. Inexpensive friendly 2hr bus service. Local village has all the services of a clean well run harbour holiday hotspot. And the unisex toilets ther are an exemplar.

Yelp
It's been a few months, but I'm hoping that all my pictures from the beautiful afternoon spent here attach to this review. They say in so many images what I just couldn't in words. Ales Stenar, or "Ale's Stones," is a monolithic stone ship that dates back to the Nordic Iron Age. Located in Skåne (or Scania) on the Southern Swedish coast, Ales Stenar is oval in shape, and consists of many different sized standing stones that are also different in color. The bright pink one was my favorite. I had the absolute privilege of visiting them with an archaeologist, and it was one of the best days of my life. We stopped at several points of historic interest along the breathtaking coast during my trip. I also walked inside a stone circle leading into a caved in Stone Age tomb (a few days later in the trip I was able to actually walk all the way inside a tomb!!!), explored petroglyph sites, hiked to a burial site on the beach, and put my toes into the Baltic Sea, all on the same day!! You can't drive up to the site, but there is a gravel parking area in town with a map and friendly greeter kitty that will show you the way. If you walk toward the beach you need only keep right and follow the trail up to the stones. I recommend using Googlemaps if you don't have a Swedish friend with you. ;-) Yes you can actually touch the stones. Unlike that other stone monument... Please please PLEASE leave them as you left them and pack out what you pack in. May 2019, the best birthday month a girl could ask for. I apologize if my facts are not as accurate as they could be.

Yelp
We visited this place, just because we stayed in the South of Sweden for a few days. Even I knew and read about it, I didn't expect much. But then it started at the (free) parking lot, which was quite huge, a lot bigger than expected. Then I knew this is not just a roadside attraction. There's an easy stroll up to the Ales Stenar. But be aware: For some parts it's a bit difficult if you have a stroller and nearly impossible if you rely on a wheelchair. The Megalith formation lies on top of this small hill, offering wonderful views of the surrounding coast. And for that only it's already worth to visit. The Megalith formation consists of 59 stones, circled up in an oval (ship) formation. And it's quite an impressive sight. It's not as big or as impressive as Stonehenge (which DOES hold up to the hype btw), but it's quite a sight nonetheless. There's no entrance fee, no fences or anything. Which is quite surprising. I only wished that people (not only kids) wouldn't climb around on these stones so much. Can't be good on the long run. We loved it. Was pretty busy on this morning, but still quite alright. We were also happy that dogs are allowed (on leash). Enjoy it as long as it lasts as it is. I quite believe fees and further restrictions will come up one day.
