The 7 Best Hostels in Rome (Updated 2025)

"If you want to party, this very affordable, centrally located hostel (about five minutes from Termini) is ideal, with a cheap-drinks bar, a rooftop bar, and a social atmosphere that makes meeting other travelers easy; amenities also include a fully equipped kitchen and a fitness room. The dorms are spacious and have lockers in every room, but the beds are basic and not especially comfortable." - Matthew Kepnes

Location is so nice. You can access to whole historical site easily by bus or Metro. And it is closed to Termini(big station and you arrive here from the airport), so it is easy to carry your luggage to the Hostel. You have to bring sandal for taking shower. The downside is that this place is not clean enough. There are many bathrooms and toilets and it is good. But all bathroom was not clean. Kitchen also, table and kitchen space was a bit stinky. The employees did do their best I think because they start cleaning in the every morning and evening. So, I want them to renovate the place.

We were welcomed very nicely and offered a place for our luggage since we couldn't check in yet. Rooms were clean and spacious, the bathroom could be cleaner but nothing to worry about. They also have well equipped kitchen but it can get quite busy (it is a little small). The hostel provides entertainment but we didn't really experice it.

Good if you only want a place to sleep. There is nowhere good area for work, or to socialize. The social lounge is much smaller than pictured, is hot, and has no tables. The kitchen is also small and dirty. There are no shelves at the beds, and the power outlet is where your head should be. Also note they only take cash. The location is good, and the rooms and bathrooms are clean enough, but I wouldn’t recommend if you want to spend any time around the hostel.

Great hostel with amazing staff. I stayed in a private room and for the price it was decent. The staff at this hostel are amazing, shout out to Francesco behind the bar! The one thing the hostel does lack is a vibe and everyone seems to end up at the yellow door bar around the corner.

Such a fun hostel experience! People are so friendly and easy to meet. Bar has super long happy hour with super cheap prices. We played games with other hostel goers and had a great time. Rooms have small lockers that fit my suitcase and backpack. Beds are bunk with no curtain. We did the 6 person mixed- very nice people were with us. We had AC and a private bathroom (definitely recommend AC rooms as it got very hot without). All extras such as towels, locks, etc. were cash only at the front desk. They also held our passports in a secure place for free.

I stayed at Alessandro Palace & Bar in Rome in August 2025. As soon as I arrived, I was struck by a strong smell of mould present throughout the building, including the common areas. The bathrooms and shared spaces were dirty, and many of the facilities were old, worn and much smaller than shown in the advertising pictures. The difference between reality and the photos was shocking. The biggest problem was the behaviour of the staff, who were rude and racist. When I raised the issue they started yelling at me like crazy that they have the 'cleanest' hostel in Italy and I am 'used to my nationality comfortable hotels.' Despite having chosen a free cancellation option, I was denied any refund and was forced to stay, as I had no viable alternative for the night. I received no goodwill gesture, no apology, and not even the slightest acknowledgement of the misleading advertising and unacceptable hygienic conditions. If you value cleanliness, politeness, transparency and respect, I strongly advise you to choose another establishment. There are brilliant hostels nearby.

I really enjoyed this hostel. They have very decent sized lockers, my room had an en-suite and also on the floor there were communal female toilets / showers which I really appreciated. The beds were comfy and the staff were friendly. A few nice restaurants around and the train station about a 8 minute walk. They have lots of events in the bar each night, I didn’t try to be social, but I can imagine it would be easy enough to make some new friends or drinking buddies as well.

This was my first time staying in a hostel, and the experience was genuinely great. The staff were friendly and helpful whenever I needed anything, and the hostel had everything I could have asked for.||The location is really convenient — just a short walk from Termini station, which made getting to and from the airport super easy. While it’s a bit of a walk to the main tourist spots, I personally didn’t mind that at all.||The shower and toilet facilities were clean and of a good standard, and the bunks were surprisingly comfy. I didn’t use the kitchen or other shared spaces, apart from spending about an hour in the bar, so I can’t comment on most of the amenities — I spent the rest of my time in my room.||Overall, I’d definitely recommend staying here, especially if you’re a solo traveler like me. A solid, reliable base for exploring Rome.
