I stayed at Alessandro Palace & Bar in Rome in August 2025.
As soon as I arrived, I was struck by a strong smell of mould present throughout the building, including the common areas. The bathrooms and shared spaces were dirty, and many of the facilities were old, worn and much smaller than shown in the advertising pictures. The difference between reality and the photos was shocking.
The biggest problem was the behaviour of the staff, who were rude and racist. When I raised the issue they started yelling at me like crazy that they have the 'cleanest' hostel in Italy and I am 'used to my nationality comfortable hotels.'
Despite having chosen a free cancellation option, I was denied any refund and was forced to stay, as I had no viable alternative for the night.
I received no goodwill gesture, no apology, and not even the slightest acknowledgement of the misleading advertising and unacceptable hygienic conditions.
If you value cleanliness, politeness, transparency and respect, I strongly advise you to choose another establishment. There are brilliant hostels nearby.
