Alex Sushi continues to be our annual haven for celebrating our anniversary—a tradition that became even more special when our son began his sushi journey back in 2021. Last night, we indulged in the chef’s special omakase, a curated culinary adventure that enchanted us from start to finish. With impeccable service enhancing our experience and the chef working his magic behind the scenes, every visit to Alex Sushi feels like a celebration of both tradition and innovation. We leave eagerly anticipating our next visit, where every dish tells a story and every moment becomes a cherished memory.

Google
Alex Sushi that was amazing experience! Fresh ingredients, perfect execution, and exceptional flavor make every visit a real pleasure. The staff is friendly and professional, and the elegant atmosphere adds to the experience. The prices are higher, but the quality fully justifies them. Definitely worth a visit!

You’re being served by the silver medalist of the Scandinavian Sushi Cup. The chef‘s specials reflect the joy with which he continues to learn about his craft. Most delicious scallops and tuna nigiri I have ever had. Recommend!

What a lovely place this is. Amazing atmosphere. The chefs are making live art in front of you. I got the black omakase menu, which was really good! One note is that I went Friday night and it was super busy. I would suggest when it’s busy to not order the Omakase, as it’s a lot of moving parts, and it can get complex to deliver between so much movement and overhead in the restaurant. What’s being created is delicious, beautiful and precise, and so it’s important to have patience! They were kind to let me in solo on a crowded night, and I really enjoyed my experience and the pure joy of the food. I’ll have to go again on a night that’s not so packed!

Google
Top 3 sushi places in Oslo, very fresh sushi, great selection of fish, excellent sake and good desserts. A must visit if you are into sushi.

Google
Absolutely delicious sushi. Tried the tasting menu and everything was excellent, top-notch quality and preparation. Right amount of food and well paced. The sashimi and tempura were particular highlights.

Superb quality sushi and sashimi. The blend of traditional taste and creativity has won!! Great chef and friendly wait team. This place remarks our holiday in Oslo a memorable one. Don't miss great Arts on the wall.

Google
The sushis are amazing. The taste is delicious. The staff is helpful and they know the menu perfectly. Well trained. Loved this place so much that I even considering coming back one day to Oslo just to eat those sushis. Keep it up! Thank you for the amazing experience.

Yelp
We enjoyed our meal and generally liked the sashimi/nigiri more than the maki. The maki was still good but had more rice than we're used to. They did a great job with the interior of the restaurant from the artwork to the soy sauce bottles. The staff were friendly and accommodating.

Yelp
The service there is top notch! They accommodated my dietary restrictions. I wore casual wear, but most people there wore nicer casual clothing. Its a great intimate place for a date. The food is amazing! I ordered the Black Menu Omakase. (There was also a crab salad, buts I forgot to take a picture of it.)

Yelp
Pretty amazing place to eat. Non-pretentious high end restaurant. Excellent service (thank you Hanna). Some of the best sushi we've ever had. Toro tuna, salmon, halibut, scallops, quail eggs and caviar... did I forget the ridiculous lobster and rolls? Hope to return on any visit to Oslo.

Yelp
Cool atmosphere with great selection of classics and more elaborate sushi. The wine selection is quite good with most of it by the bottle.

Yelp
I have to say, the salmon sushi that I had here is the best I've had in my whole life!! The flavor of the vinegar rice and the salmon complement each other so well, this is what sushi should taste like. What have I been missing all my life!! The sashimi plate we had in comparison is rather so-so. There are three sauces you can dip. They also have the lobster sashimi, which was great in presentation, but costs about $50.

Yelp
My sister and I were visiting from San Francisco and we were told Alex Sushi was the best sushi in Oslo so we had to try it and I'm so glad we did! This was one of the highlights of our trip to Oslo. The sushi was absolutely delicious and the service was excellent. We even got complimentary nigiri from the chef! They were also able to make my sister's sushi GF. I highly recommend Alex Sushi to anyone and everyone in Oslo who wants an awesome sushi experience.

Yelp
Michelin Star restaurant? Had to Google how they were rated. The sushi was pretty solid and the ambiance I guess is much different from most restaurants being loud and decorated relatively chic with hip decor but I'm not an interior decorator so give me my sushi! For 2 White Menu items, it was about $60 usd each and I was pretty filled. For the price point I'd say it could've been a few dollars cheaper. The fish was pretty standard and by no means above average, which I would've expected from a place like this. It was definitely higher quality than I'd had in Oslo. I think my issue with this is the hype and my rice was hard. But as hard as I am on this place, I'd come back. It's hard to find solid sushi places in Oslo and you might as well go somewhere that tries to do the most!

Yelp
Sushi lovers everywhere owe it to themselves to stop by Alex Sushi at Solli Plass. The service is on point, the food is delicious, and over all it is a great food experience! I came here with three of my fellow Yelpers a Tuesday night. The place was full when I arrived a little after 7pm, and people where turned away at the door for not having a reservation. Monday-Wednesday they only seat people downstairs so they have limited seated available. Therefore if you have your heart set on going here definitely make a reservation. Alex Sushi is absolutely the place to try out some of the more special dishes that you normally don't eat. That being said, standard dishes such as salmon sashimi taste amazing. In fact the fish is so fresh that it basically melts in your mouth. For the price you pay however, you are better of trying something different. I am not sure what kind of menu our table actually got. We asked our waiter to help us get something good, and he continued to ask us what kind of fish we liked and talked really fast about the food he would bring out for us. We just all said yes (personally I got a little lost in his rant so I didn't pay attention) but the food came out in three rounds; sashimi, some fried salmon and tempura salad, and a mixed sushi plate. Most of it was really good and very tasteful, however the fried salmon was tasteless and rather boring in my opinion. We also had warm saké. Personally I prefer it warm as it cools of through the dinner anyway. Our waiter was very attentive, refilling our water, asking if we wanted more drinks and made sure we had a good time, which we absolutely did. I totally understand why Alex Sushi is Oslo's best sushi spot.

Yelp
As always - had the most AMAZING dinner and Signe as the waitress was absolutely incredible- if in Oslo- go to Alex - thanks for an amazing dinner and wine experience

Yelp
Very interesting menu. Only reservation we can get is at 9:00 pm for four. We had great expectations for the food as it has such great reviews. When we arrived, we were shown to our table. There was a man talking to a girl next to our table. We asked politely if one of us can get into the seat. Instead of moving, he ignored us and kept talking to the girl. I asked if he has his own table, he replied " I am the owner". Did not move which made us getting into our seats very awkward. I did not made a scene nor getting upset and ruin our dinner. This guy stayed right next crammed into our table. Keep hitting on the girl on the next table which is very very close to ours. As time went on , this guy is hugging the girl and trying to kiss her. The girl put up some slight resistance. All this is happening in front of a full restaurant guests. After 45 minutes or so, they left. The wait staffs starting to tell us that he is a mean boss. No regard for customers and is intoxicated most evenings. Very surprised that the restaurant has good reviews and difficult to get reservations. Perhaps the dishes are unusual and pretty good. We certainly will not return and do not recommend this restaurant !

Yelp
Tried this because of the Yelp reviews. Ordered the salmon sashimi and the quality of the salmon is incredible, I'll give it that. But only 4 stars as the staff could be a little bit more attentive. The downstairs area is not that big so would've thought that the waiting staff would be on point. Ordered the soft shell maki and the rice was just a little mushy so could feel that it had too much water when it was steamed. Was given complimentary miso soup and slightly disappointed that the bowl was only filled halfway, soup also tasted more on the salty side. Positive note is they have very beautiful crockery. Happy I tried it for myself.

Yelp
Tremendous experience of sushi, combined with nice selection of wine! If you're ready to pay for it, I recommend strongly

Yelp
We've been going to Alex ever since we moved to Oslo in '99 and it is with regret that I have to report that it's finally showing signs of going downhill. Of course it's a challenge keeping up such high standards, but there you go. Kingdoms wax and wane... The food is now formula, not the best they have in at the moment, which was the joy of sitting at the bar and just ordering the Omakase. Also it came to fast like they're trying to process you and get max profit...not the Alex of old and certainly not 5 stars. Might as well get a takeaway from Tintin next time.

Yelp
It is definitely better than other sushi places in Oslo. We went there to celebrate my bf birthday. We ordered the classic black plates. My bf had it many years ago when Alex was still working behind the counter. My bf said the food quantity had reduced compared to the past AND prices went up. I can understand prices have to increase but quantity.....hmm mm. .. It is a luxury to eat in Alex sushi nonetheless. ....can only afford for special occasion but sadly we might not go back anymore.

Yelp
This is the first time I ate sushi in Oslo, it was so good! The decoration is so nordic with some Japanese culutre in the details. I had the "red menu" , including 4 dishes even with Whale meat!

Yelp
Oooooweeee do I have a crush on this place. Sushi is my favorite food and this is now my favorite sushi place. Too bad I live halfway around the dang world. Seriously though if you like the sushi check this place out

Yelp
Best sushi I have ever had, ever. I have come back to the US from eating here and sushi here does not compare whatsoever.

Yelp
A Great place to eat. This is 100% one of the best places to get sushi in the whole of Norway. With a great variety to choose from and very nice employees,, you can't go wrong!

Yelp
considered to be the best sushi place in norway, it's by all means fresh. service was good. we had dinner at the sushi bar. you can chose from just ordering items off the menu or go for a tasting menu. each of us had the 'red menu' which consisted of 3 courses with salmon, halibut, shrimp, tuna, scallops, crab, and tempura prepared in sashimi, nigiri, and maki styles. flavors were good, but it was a bit redundant. the 3 courses were very similar and lacked creativity and uniqueness. i saw some of the same things came out in both the 1st and 2nd course. 5 stars for freshness and the fact that there is fresh sushi in norway even though pricey for very common things. minus 1 star for not being able to be a bit more creative with the menu. minus 1 more star for only having common ingredients. obviously if you're only visiting norway you wouldn't want to try out their sushi. it just doesn't make sense because you can get so much better (priced and quality and variety) sushi elsewhere (speaking mainly of the coasts of the united states) i was taken here as a guest by my aunt and i do appreciate it in that sense, but after having had super sushi for a fraction of the price i just couldn't see myself going to this place even if price wasn't an issue.

Yelp
Great food and fun! Sitting at the bar watching chef preparing our sashimi and sushi sets in front of us. Reservation recommended. We were there on a Tuesday evening and it was packed. Fish were very fresh.

Yelp
Great sushi, very fresh and yummy. Whale meat is worth trying (tastes like tuna to me)

Madison K.

Yelp
I love Alex sushi! I have been to both locations in Oslo both are amazing. The red menu is a great value and allows you to try a variety of things. If you are there with another person you should get the menu for two it's awesome and the best deal. Last time I got it it has the fried salmon skin which was so good we asked for more when we finished our meal.

Yelp
Try "the black menu" if you are really hungry... The lobster is amazing!
google avatar

Sheeva G.

Yelp
Great sushi. I did the black menu and I wasn't disappointed. I didn't even think that it was too much food. The black menu has an assortment of sashimi, nigiri, a special roll, and half of a lobster. The beer and sake are great as well and the service was great. For Norway, this was really solid sushi.

Yelp
This place has amazing sushi and sashimi. The fish is always fresh - the salmon, specifically, tastes like butter. When going, try the whale - it's surprisingly tender and beefy in flavor. I go to this place every chance I get. It's worth every dime.

Yelp
The best sushi place in Oslo and maybe in all Scandinavia! It was really delicious and there was a LOT to eat. However as expected in Norway, the price tag is really really high.

Richard H.

Yelp
Sushi was excellent. Service was great as well. Tataki was my favorite followed by spicy scallop maki.

Qype User (jklond…)

Yelp
Super fresh sushi, excellent service - in response to the previous review if you want something creative then put together your own mix - we had the seafood salad which was very good followed by mix of sashimi and maki (try the scampi with avocado maki for something different!). Worth booking but we managed to get a seat @ 8.30 on a Wednesday. Total for two with wine was around £120 but the wine was around half of that. Ask for tap water (most locals do) and they keep giving your refils without you asking. Dont tip (locals dont - the staff are paid well).

Qype User (Cae…)

Yelp
Excellent sushi, I had my best sushi experience here :) Good service. I've been here twice and will definately go back.
