A privately run hotel , probably falls in the boutique category. Nice private and despite construction quiet hotel with a lovely courtyard and pool. Rooms are comfortable and well appointed, but don’t expect shiny rooms. ||All the staff are really helpful and polite, as with the owners they are always available without being overbearing. Nothing was too much trouble. From reservation to checkout Gordon and others were there and everything was seamless. ||Felt like a home from home, great to use as a base to explore Dar and for business meetings too. ||Breakfast was pretty good both cooked and continental options. And real coffee too. ||The food in the restaurant is excellent and the balcony area is very relaxing. Hidden gem in Dar near the yacht club and slipway and will come again

We have visited multiple times for a romantic meal with my wife. Great place for an adult night out with friends or a couple.

Hi There, It was like always an absolute pleasure having dinner at Alexander's. Great atmosphere, good service and food accompanied by a fantastic wine menu. We will be back. Cheers

Best hidden boutique hotel in Dar? Absolutely. As soon as you enter time stops, an oasis in the city, beautiful architectural building with a huge internal courtyard garden where a fig tree provides shade for the pool. The breezy upstairs bar and restaurant, make sure you try their famous lobster. Rooms are fantastic, Thank you Gordon!

A really fantastic, most special place. Gordon and his team‘s hospitality is outstanding, always friendly and the serice is so personal. Gordon even greeted us personally when we arrived from our international flight ar 6am and kindly offered us a later breakfast, which we truly appreciated. When I asked for a bandaid he brought a whole package for me from the supermarket. In addition to the people, the hotel is very pretty, stylish in the most special sense and the terrasse ist just … wow. While we usually go to different places, we had dinner there twice, it was too good. The area around is very cool and absolutely safe. Can‘t imagine there is a better hotel in Dar! What an oasis!

Wonderful hospitality, Alexander’s is a real gem! |We arrived sticky and dusty after a few weeks on the road and were gracefully welcomed when we walked through the door. Our room was spacious and bright with a great shower and wonderful AC. Gordon is a terrific host and his staff do a great job making you feel safe and welcome. |The restaurant was a lovely place to have a relaxed dinner. The food was superb and the atmosphere is sophisticated and laid back at the same time. We ended up having dinner here both nights of our stay, while there are many restaurants in the area, none seem to compare.

We stayed at Alexander's Hotel during December of 2023. Quite simply the stay was highly enjoyable, as the hotel is excellent. The hotel is owned and managed by Gordon Alexander, who is a great host who runs a very nice hotel and restaurant. I believe that you would be hard pressed to find a better place to stay in Dar es Salaam, as the hotel is clean, safe, and conveniently located in the Masaki neighbourhood. In terms of transportation to and from the airport (not to mention locations around the city), Gordon made arrangements for our transit in comfortable vehicles. In addition, the hotel's restaurant is excellent, and the hotel surely has one of the best wine cellars in Tanzania if not East Africa. I, formerly, travelled extensively for business purposes, internationally, and I would certainly place Alexander's Hotel at the top of my list of great boutique style hotels. Very highly recommended.

Stay away. The place isn’t run properly and generally a bit run down. It’s a stunning property but it’s lacking life. The rooms are nice size but all look into the courtyard so it feels like a bunker as you can’t open the curtains. General issues with mold and air conditioning that isn’t well maintained. The swimming pool and the area around it needs renovation, I wouldn’t use it. There are better places in Dar for the price.
