This tiny museum has a great soul! Situated on the 3rd floor of an old factory building, which now serves as a center for art studios.

The museum exhibit starts from history of the community digs on its (Lee Street) past which also started the background of The City of Alexandria became a leader in historic preservation. We found a hidden gem that located on the 3rd floor of Torpedo Factory Art Center which provides historical stories in a quaint space. Not only that, it’s also can be an interesting short archeology field trip for certain ages kids. The museum gift shop available as the museum time. Come and check it out, you won’t be disappointed!

Amazing local archaeology exhibit! My wife is an actual archaeologist and she loved the exhibit! There are fun interactive activities, great visual representations of local archeology, etc.

Knowledgeable staff and nice exhibit, with interactive components. Pretty small, but worth the stop.

On the third floor. Nice little museum. Been there once.

They're good field trip opportunities here. The space is quaint but they accommodate a group of about 15 with activities or a lesson relevant to is architecture and the history of Old Town. I love that its location is in the torpedo Factory surrounded by beautiful art and this creative space! Not to mention if you go there in the morning you can have lunch right on the boardwalk.

Small nice free museum, a must if you visit the hall anyway (which is a old torpedo factory)

Yelp
On the third floor of Alexandria's Torpedo Factory, an old torpedo factory that's now the country's largest collection of working-artists' open studios, is a one room-museum about the city's history and archaeology. With free admission, take the time to read about Alexandria's archaeology and look at some historic artifacts. There's a small store and several interactive exhibits that teach kids about archaeology. They even have free coloring pages for kids!

Yelp
Pretty cool as a part of the overall torpedo factory. You have to really be into archaeology to enjoy because it's a very self driven experience without much of a tour. Overall interesting but a little bland.

Yelp
The Torpedo Factory is really cool...but if you are a little nerdy, you might like stopping in this museum inside the factory. It has fascinating information about Old Town and some history. I love stories and learning more about places through the stories and finds. This is good for all ages as the museum not only has artifacts but it explains archeology and has some activities that are quick to do. Has a replica of the most recent find as they were building the Indigo Hotel. Check out the remnants found from an old ship. Many neat things here. Staff very nice and informative. Great way to explore a little history. Could be a good spot to take a kiddo for a few minutes while mom or dad explores just one more shop.

Yelp
Can ya dig it? Well you can..here. Forgive the pun, but this museum is pretty cool for history geeks like me. The focus of the Alexandria Archeology museum is to protect and examine the city's buried history. Located in the Torpedo Factory, the museum is a small space mostly occupied by its lab. The archaeologists working in the lab are reconstructing Alexandria's history piece by piece. Other than the lab, there are exhibits here that feature findings of recent digs as well as videos and seminars.

Yelp
Plan 10-25 minutes for this attraction. I love the idea that this museum also a working lab. Appropriate for children as well as adults, this will probably expose the work of archaeologists to the younger folks.

Yelp
As someone who lives in Alexandria I really liked this place. A lady who worked there was very helpful and had a lot of knowledge about the history of Alexandria. She answered all of our questions and told us stories about some of the artifacts. Expect the experience to take 15-30 minutes. Definitely worth stopping by if you're already at the Torpedo Factory.

Yelp
On a recent visit with relatives in Arlington, VA I went to several attractions including the Air and Space Museum at Dulles and the Newseum in Washington, DC. Both were great, but the most memorable part of my stay was my visit to the Alexandria Archaeology Museum. In particular, I was fascinated by the discussion I had with Terilee Edwards-Hewitt about early American civilizations. Mrs. Edwards-Hewitt has a depth of knowledge of early Americans that is exceeded only by her enthusiasm for the subject. I could have listened to her all day. If you would like to learn about the Pre-Clovis, Clovis and ancient mound sites of North America stop by to talk with her. You won't be disappointed.
