Great overview of history of Alexandria. The Fresnel lens’ are so cool. The staff and gift shops are bonuses. Really enjoyed the experience. Highly recommend a stop in.

Small and free museum in a central location of the historical district of Alexandria. The exhibits are okay. The artefacts are not special but the descriptions are of interest. The gift store is excellent and has some wonderful unique items of local interest. Also if you have a Lighthouse Passport you can get the stamp at the gift store desk you just have to ask for it.

A regional museum that informs the visitor of Alexandria's complex history. I like the way it tracks the rise of the town until the devastation of the American Civil War, and then the struggle to find relevance then after. The physical development of the town is explained. Special exhibitions are good (March 2019): Alexandria and WW1; and a display of clothing items from the 19th century. The building, respectfully restored, is a fine example of early architecture in the town. Well worth a visit.

Very small, but a great starting point for Alexandria museum tours. Make sure you get the "Key to the City" pass at the visitor center.

Wonderful space to rent for small concerts and recitals. The piano sounds good and is well maintained. Rental fee is very reasonable. There’s a bit of street noise but nothing that is too distracting.

The Lyceum is a free museum in Old Towne Alexandria. It contains information of historical people and events of Alexandria. Also, included are artifacts and some furniture of pre and after Civil War years. Cute gift shop. Upper level can be rented for events.

came for an evening concert which was very nice! small comfortable auditorium, just the right fit for a chamber music ensemble or a soloist. also had a chance to get a brief look at the museum telling the history of Alexandria with many interesting pictures and facts

Yelp
This is another gem within Alexandria city limits that's worth stopping by. Julie was really friendly and resourceful, which enhanced the experience. The city has done a superb job preserving and expanding this historical building. There is a small gift shop, and several rooms on the main floor with historical artifacts. The upstairs Lyseum is still used for lectures and other events, which you can learn more about on their website. It is not a huge museum but you could easily spend at least an hour perusing the exhibits and learning about Alexandria's history. It is an interesting, informative museum and I'd imagine even long-time locals can learn something new about Alexandria. There is a small parking lot with a handful of dedicated spots so I'd imagine during events that nearby street parking is the way to go. Inside, there are public restrooms available. Admission is free for Alexandria residents.

Yelp
A wonderful little museum showcasing important history in Alexandria. Very educational displays and awesome pieces of art throughout the museum. A souvenir store is also available with great little finds inside. Check them out.
