Alexis Motor Lodge & Motels, Dunedin

We recently stayed in the Two Bedroom Spa unit. On the first night, the first member had a shower and used the spa bath — there was plenty of hot water at that point. But when the second person went to have a shower shortly after, there was no hot water left at all. I gave the property manager a call, and was told that we had used up too much hot water, and would need to wait until the next morning for it to heat up again. I have to say, we were quite surprised by this. It was never mentioned to us that the hot water supply was limited, and for a unit that accommodates four people, we really didn’t expect to run out of hot water after just one person had a proper bath. It was a cold winter night, and not being able to take a warm shower was quite unpleasant. We were genuinely disappointed, and unfortunately, this has affected how we feel about the stay overall.

I have stayed here 4 times, and the new owners have maintained the high standards of the past. The impeccably clean rooms are spacious (ours had a large spa tub) with well-appointed linens and comfortable beds, just about all the Sky channels (including the sports channels), and a kitchen with all the essentials. The location is fantastic, only a few minutes walk from New World and just steps away from countless restaurants and shops. Dunedin’s award winning botanical garden is within walking distance, as is the Saturday Farmers Market. The laundry facilities are a great bonus, as is the reserved parking. There’s no doubt that this is our go-to place in Dunedin.

I arrived on the second day under the new owners, so they are still settling in. Despite this, the service I received was exceptional. The room was spotless and well-maintained. As an older guest, I did have some concerns about the bath spa and shower setup, as well as the steepness of the driveway—these are aspects I might have reconsidered if I had booked directly, but it was arranged through a service. What I absolutely loved was Alexis' central location—perfectly positioned for everything: town, cafes, the university, and more. Highly recommended!

Excellent place to stay, central to city, medical facilities and best of all, the rugby! Cyril is very accommodating. Will stay there again.

Very good central location. Tidy room, no complaints or concerns. We arrived on a cold day and it was a nice touch to discover the room was warm with the heater already on. Property is on a steep hillside, so may present some challenges for those with mobility issues. A very pleasant stay.

We had a very enjoyable stay at the Alexis. Our room was very comfortable and very well set up and equipped. The location is great and we were made feel very welcome. Our hosts were wonderful, thank you for looking after us. I hope we can return on another trip to New Zealand.

The staff was lovely, welcoming, and very helpful with my needs. Nice rooms and comfortable bed. A great location in Dunedin City with all the shops and restaurants close by, perfect evening walking.

We stayed here for two nights while attending a family 21st birthday across the road at Lone Star. Robyn was very friendly when we checked in, making us feel comfortable and welcome. Location is fantastic, very close to the city centre but not too close that you get all the pub noise at night. Our room was nice and comfortable too, plenty of space for our small group. Across the road from the motel there are many places to grab something to eat. The price was very reasonable too, we paid $428 for our stay in a one bedroom apartment. Recommend staying here if visiting Dunedin.
