Always a great pleasure to visit this store. The owner and staffs are very friendly and helpful.

We ended up in Green Valley to go hiking in Crafts Peak. With no internet, we had no idea where to park and ended up in the general store. Shawn was very busy but was incredibly helpful in guiding us and giving us a much needed map of the area. If in the area I will return again.

For the small city it was great place and most grocery items were available there prices based on the location were fair .

Not much to chose from and they do not sell alcohol even though they are the only store in Green Valley

Amazing little store with a good variety of things. I think the prices are reasonable. Always kind when we come in and store well stocked. Lovely owners. Great store. 10/10 would recommend to anyone staying in the area.

Had a wonderful experience here! We were visiting when a snow storm hit and the staff went above and beyond helping us find the right size tire chains for our car and even suggested someone to help put them on. I will definitely be coming back next time I'm in the area!

Excellent local general store. A surprisingly abundant selection of food (especially some staples and snacks) and misc items you would need for a a stay or stop in Green Valley Lake. Friendly service.

I spent a few days in Green Valley Lake at an AirBNB. As much as I love the San Bernardinos, I wasn't a huge fan of this little community. That surprised me. I usually love places that are a little more off the beaten path and isolated, but this community (and the lake it's centered around) just didn't do it for me. That all being said, I was very grateful to find the GVL General Store during my stay. It's really the only place in the area to get grocery-type items, and there was a nice little variety of things to support the community and keep residents and visitors from having to drive down the hill a bit to get some basic essentials. They also had some cute little GVL items (such as little GVL journal/notebook that I picked up), which was a nice little surprise. They key to appreciating this general store is appreciating it for exactly what it is and where it's located. Are you going to find everything you could possibly want? Of course not. But chances are, you'll be able to something that works.

Owner is so kind and friendly. He has a variety of products at his store with a wide selection for affordable prices, definitely not gouging his customers.

We rolled into Green Valley Lake to do some inter tubing. But after a bit of a drive we all had to pee. The public bathroom on the other side of the road is locked and the sign right out front of the General Store says that the restrooms are for customers only. As we're all getting a little desperate but trying to act cool, Brad from the Back Dog next door walks out of the store, sees our situation and offers his bathrooms to us. I just don't get this. It seems like common, human decency to let folks use the restroom. You create goodwill and many times folks are so relieved and grateful that they'll buy something on the way out. Any guesses where we all bought snacks after inter tubing?

Went to the store at 6:30 PM and it was closed. According to Yelp, it's supposed to close at 8PM. With no other stores in the vicinity, this is quite the disappointment.

We recently bought a home in the area and decided to check out Green Valley Lake yesterday. However, my Mom forgot to bring a beanie or a headband. She suffered frostbite to her ears years ago, and ever since, she has to be very careful in cold weather. So, we walked into the General Store to quickly purchase a beanie. My Mom tried one on just to make sure it would cover her ears. One of the cashiers (an older woman with red/brown hair) started yelling at us that we cannot try on the hats due to COVID. We completely understood and apologized. There was not a sign or warning in sight that this was not allowed. We have no issue with their rule and said we were sorry. However, she just would not stop berating us. Even after we apologized, she said, "We don't know what you're bringing in here, we can't have you trying on the hats and leaving your 'stuff' everywhere." We again apologized, and she said, "It's just wrong. Just wrong." At that point, I had had enough, and said, "M'am, the commentary is not necessary." We were so put off, we just put the hat back and walked out. At which point she had to get in one last snarky comment and said, "See, and then you don't even buy the hat!" We were fully prepared to buy the hat, but after her rude comments, we had no intention of purchasing anything. We are fully vaxxed and boosted and have ZERO problems with COVID safety and regulations. All we'd ask is that she put up a sign indicating that trying on the hats is prohibited. She didn't need to keep embarrassing us in front of the other customers. Making such snotty and rude comments is just bad business. Absolutely awful customer service. I will never spend a dime in there and will discourage anyone we meet from ever patronizing the place.

Every time I walk into this little store, I am amazed that the wide variety of items available. Dairy, canned and dry goods, frozen foods are all in stock. Have a desire to roast a whole turkey? Chances are, you'll find one there. There's even fresh baked goods sometimes, because "AlexLuv2Cook"! The prices are quite fair once you consider the remoteness of this lovely little town. You will find just about anything you need, and usually I walk out with a thing or two I didn't know I needed until I saw they had it.

Stop by and a older guys with glasses was yell at me "we are closed we closed 3 hours ago" when the door was wide open. I told him okay sorry Yelp said you close in 30 minutes. And he told me "who uses Yelp."Now you can imagine my face ‍‍. I walk away.

It's not flashy, it's not "chic" but it's cute and more important, it's functional. The owners, Alex and Richard are so helpful and knowledgeable. They really go above and beyond for their customers. They've really done an awesome job stocking the store with all the necessities and some great "not so necessary" items. Alex's baked goods are beyond good. Green Valley Lake is such a small town and it is fairly remote. This little market has saved me from having to drive to the next town so many times.

A necessity and staple in GVL! Alex is always so friendly and has the yummiest baked goods. We love her soft pretzels that she sometimes sells at the store. Small store but filled with so much from ramen to bubbles to gloves to ice cream to sleds to bird feed! We love coming by for snacks.

Green valley lake general store is a convenience store to shopping . They have what you need and then some cool stuff : craft beer , good cheese . Ice cream.coffee,frazil. Snacks. Camping stuff or hardware. Pets supplies . Kids toys .winter snow boots . Clothes. Backpack, postcard,hunting knives. firewood. propane tank exchange, or propane tank purchase . Outside of the store they also have a air compressor to everyone use and it's FREE ! Love this place . I was surprised to see such a small store had such a variety of items. We needed new snow gloves for our 7 year old and found several sizes and different colors. They seem to have a little bit of everything you might have forgotten.

When going up to our family cabin I am always thankful for the store. You can pretty much guarantee we forgot something. LOL. Great selection and they are always very helpful.

A top notch little store that provides so much for our small mountain community. The fresh baked goods sold are amazing. Make sure to stop by when in our Gem of a town.

If I could give this place 0 stars I would. The older man who works/owns it is VERY rude. He talked poorly about us to other customers not knowing we knew someone still inside the store. Very Unnecessary especially when we did nothing to him, were kind, and were trying to support small businesses. I regret spending a single dime in there. I would drive a few more minutes to go to Vons and avoid his hostile energy. I could see why he was complaining about paying his bills. He treats his customers like shit but sure takes their money.

Great little shop with fantastic owners who have the well being of the town in their hearts. It gets better every year and I don't know what any vacationer or owner in this little town would do without it.

Alex and Richard of the general store have truly done everything that they can to make this town wonderful. From doing their best to fulfilling the needs of locals, always being open to special requests, and doing other amazing things for our family including regularly organizing Halloween activities in our small town, festivals, and community events. as long time residents we are so, so thankful for their service. With a selection of ice cream candy Alex's baked goods, standard household supplies and more they truly are a one store fits all. next time you visit GVL make sure to take a safe, and socially distance stop in to this sweet little market, and say hi.

A true general store. They seriously have a little bit of everything! I, by chance needed staples for a project at our cabin, and jokingly asked the owner, Alex, is she had any. I was amazed as she cheerfully led me to them! Green Valley is a truly small town and so nice that folks work so hard to maintain the very few businesses we have in town. Thanks.

We cannot say enough to truly reflect how much we appreciate the GVL General Store. Prices are extremely reasonable for items that they keep in stock (a great convenience when we don't feel like driving to a larger chain store or the weather keeps us close to home). If it isn't in stock, all you have to do is mention it to the owner and she goes out of her way to accommodate when possible. We love our local store and will continue to support our local businesses.

I am very excited that after long struggles under previous owners, the store is coming along nicely under current ownership. The space has been improved: cleaned, painted, rewired, replumbed and brought up to code meticulously. Richard and Alex, the new owners, are stocking more and more merchandise as they gain approvals and permits from the county. I am looking forward to full approvals and full stock, but in the meantime I find the products they do have to be very reasonably priced. And yes, Alex's baked goods are out of this world. It should be noted too, that Alex has sent queries to full- and part-time owners and renters as to what they would like to see stocked. Come on, SB County...let's get this show on the road!

Great store for all your needs. My kids love going in there for snacks, especially the ice cream! I appreciate they follow guidelines and respect the health of others.

Yes its small and yes its limited to supply, but its filled with everything a small town needs to get by. The owners are nice as can be and always open to conversation. This store is a major part of the GVL charm. Plus Alex's baked goods are to die for.

Came here looking to buy some aspirin, Vicks and a toothbrush. My sister and I walked up to the front door and we said hi the guy painting/fixing the front porch. He stared at us the entire time and didn't say a single word to us. We got inside and walked around to find their medication section which was to the right of the store when you walk in. I saw a good selection of items, yes it was all overpriced but we semi expected that. Just don't ever leave home without aspirin and you should be fine. The girl working greeted us as soon as we walked in but didn't offer to help us. They didn't has aspirin or Tylenol so we settled on a generic brand of headache reliever for $3.49. The generic Vicks rub was $3.99 and the toothbrush travel kit was $2.99. I wanted a coffee but there wasn't much left and the girl working was warming herself near the heater, next to the coffee machine but didn't make a fresh pot. I should have asked but I figured that I should go to the Malt Shoppe for a coffee anyway. We get the cash register to pay and after we paid, I noticed that they had the travel size aspirin, Tylenol and other travel goodies right behind the register!! I mentioned it as the girl was giving me change but she didn't offer to do an exchange or anything. Maybe she couldn't... Who knows. I only needed a few aspirin for my sisters BF but I guess I have extra for other headache emergencies. Overall, there is a good selection of items if you ever forget anything at home BUT prices are higher then what you normally would expect. There's only 3 stores so it's expected.

Hooray the store is open! We went up to GVL the weekend of 02/16/12 when there was a huge snowstorm, dumping 4 feet of snow. In the midst of it we ended up in GVL and while walking around met the owner of the new General Store. The previous owner closed it down about a year ago and the locals missed it as the only other place they could go to was a small market 8 miles down the road in Running Springs. They were still putting the finishing touches on it, however it seemed to have a little bit of everything, including gourmet deli meats, cheeses, ready-made sandwiches, frozen foods, some fresh veggies, the usual chips and stuff, beer, wine, etc., along with a coffee station. If you needed to stay an extra day on the mountain you wouldn't starve. I think it also had some firewood, repair and camping stuff too. Like I said, a little bit of everything, just like an old country store should have. My boyfriend and his boys went back to the cabin the weekend of their grand opening, 04/06/12. If he'd known they were doing a BBQ he would have packed less food and eaten at the store as he said it looked and smelled wonderful. He was on the email list, too bad he didn't get notified. Oh well, maybe next time. This is not your local Von's, however it's nice to know if I need something in a pinch I can probably find it here. The owner also mentioned something about opening a micro-brewery along with a bed and breakfast. Sounds good to me, so he does not have to rely entirely on the income from the store. In the meantime, support the store so it can stay in business!

Prices were high.... owner was friendly...... decent beer selection. Good place to stop if you forgot to pick something up before climbing the mountain.

They have the most amazing baked goods there also a good selection of little things that you might forget... I bought and paper towels there and trash bags so many times I can't even count! So glad for the little general store!!!

Our family loves the GLV General store. It's quaint and Richard and Alex really put their all into the store and what it an offer. They are growing, but every time I go in, they have added more products and services. Alex's baked goods are great and recently Richard helped a few of my family members and I with State fishing licenses. So convenient! We wish them much success and prosperity in our little GLV.

Lovely people, amazing baked goods (cinnamon rolls are off the chain good). Had exactly what I needed when i went in. If you fish or need other local info, they have it all.

After seeing another review, I thought I'd contribute something. Spent the weekend recently at the Welcome Inn above the store. Nice little spot for an overnight stay. Clean room and easy access to the lake, pub next door, and General store The gals at the General store were always friendly, Had a wide variety of stuff, and the owner is a hoot! A little more expensive than Walgreens? Yup. And to be expected when you're 50 miles from the city. Very cool people at the store, Inn, and pub. 3 out of our group of 4 are Asian too. The reviews about being racist are totally unfounded.

Green Valley Lake is not a large place, so this little store is a wonderful place to grab what you forgot to bring, or to take a nice stroll to if you just want to grab a snack and a drink for a quick, relaxing rest by the lake. It is much more convenient than heading out the winding 4 mile road (plus an additional 2-3 to Running Springs) to another town. Is it slightly more expensive? Sure, but you'd expect that as it would be in any other "vacation" area. We have always had a pleasant experience and have been impressed with the selection of different things that they carry. I love knowing they are there, "just in case" and we try to visit at least once every time we are there. The note on Yelp says they are not open, but they were last weekend--not sure what that's about. (March 2018)

Went on a trip this weekend to Green Valley Lake and went to this store to buy some souvenirs. We were looking at the t-shirts and asked the cashier who was a tall guy with glasses, how much the shirts are and he said "19.99-24.99" and then I went to pick up a specific shirt, gray tee with green lettering, asked him how much it was and he proceeded to looking a paper they had set up by the register and replied "that shirt is 19.99". And when I took the shirt to the register, the same person told me "okay 39.99 is your total" and I was very, very confused. At first, I thought he was trying to charge me for both my shirt and my boyfriend's, and so I clarified I was only paying for one and he again stated that it was 39.99 plus tax. And i stated how he had informed us the shirts were $19.99 and he said "oh well I meant 39.99" This whole interaction made us feel quite uncomfortable so we left the store very confused. A day after our friend went down to the store and sure enough another worker informed him the shirts are $19.99. This made us very upset. We are not sure if the guy was mistaken or if he was trying to overcharge us on purpose but we definitely that this person should learn from that situation because he left a bad impression with us.

Great store for all local's and visitors. They carry all the essentials you would need. Glad to have a store close and that they are so helpful if you need something. Thanks to them for keeping the store safe during the pandemic by keeping it spotless clean. Love all the homemade goodies that are simply the best.

Overpriced convenience store . I bought one six pack of Bud beer , one small dollar candle , one hotdog fork , and one bag of corn nuts. $21 and some change. They made over $10 off me that day, easy... and if there is a next time then I'll be saving money by driving a short distance down to Running Springs.

Love the selection of basic items; a very good option with reasonable prices. Who wants to drive when you can just stay in town? Also, its nice to have a place to which my kids can ride their bikes and get a treat!

This is a small convenience store in a very small town. The owners are friendly and will open their doors even after hours if they are able to. They're working on increasing their inventory now that they have the appropriate permits from the County. I am always greeted politely and the store is always clean. Much like most locals you will encounter, the owners are happy to give you advice about the surrounding areas as well as fishing tips. And speaking of fishing, you can buy fishing rods and bait here. I'm grateful for this store as it saves me the trouble of driving to Running Springs to restock on various items. Looking forward to seeing the owners grow their business. Oh and the baked goods are truly amazing! Yes, I have been at the store during regular business hours only to find that the store was closed, but it's not a common occurrence as far as I know. Overall, a nice little place.

Went in there to grab some stuff I had forgotten in Running Springs, was planning on spending a chunk of change. When I walked in there was a woman on the phone, casually chatting away and a man behind the register. One of the items I was looking for specifically was Mac N Cheese. While they had none on their shelves, there were two huge boxes of Mac stacked next to the shelf. I asked the man behind the counter if I could buy some boxes out of the larger boxes sitting there. He told me he wasnt sure and that the only person who knew was on a phone call. No "if you give me a second I can check", no "let me ask her real quick", as if me trying to spend money in their store was an inconvenience. So you know what. I was more than happy to put everything I was gonna buy back and drive myself down to Running Springs where they have more respect and appreciate their customers. We come up here regularly and I will NEVER give them a dime again.

Convenient little general store in a quaint little town. Surprisingly large inventory for such a small place. If you forgot to pack something on your getaway to GVL, stop in at the store. Chances are you'll find what you need.

Store suppose to close at 4:00 pm. Needed cough syrup. Got there at 3:15. Store was closed with sign will open at 8:30am.

We had to come in here several times during our stay to save the day for random items we forgot or didn't think about bringing. We left Los Angeles in 90+ degree weather and a reporting of 75 degree weather. We didn't realize that morning temperatures were in the high 40's. Yikes, we needed some warm clothes to fish in and therefore had to buy a 40$ sweatshirt times two. Yikes again. The coffee was good and they had the creamer my father-in-law needed to even drink a cup of coffee. They had a good random selection of items and prices I think were appropriate for the emergency....not but how can I complain when I had to have them. and was thanking my lucky stars that the store had them.

This is a great community store and they open up early for the fishermen and stay open late. the owners do a great job stocking and keeping the place clean. they are very downhome and friendly. Last winter, the owner even offered to help us when our battery wouldn't start ... he drove us to our cabin and then helped to get the car started even though there was 5-6 feet of snow all around. Great Place; Great People.

A VERY convenient place for several different food items, including ICE CREAM! A few extra guests coming up with you? Bacon and eggs are a necessary staple for many and about a 5 minute ride away. There are even some extras like miscellaneous spices, a little "culturally" based section, little stuff for around the house, anti freeze and bags of salt in the winter, TOILET PAPER (unless you wanto to use Oak leaves, I have plenty in my yard harhar), etc.! Thank you to Alex and Richard for taking the time to fix up the place and keep it going so we full timers have a place to grab quick stuff and for you supporting all the visitors to our quaint little town here in GVL. The Air BnB and VRBO owners up here On your way up and don't want to stop at a big store? Stop by the GVL General Store for some food and goodies (Alex makes some great baked goods!). And if you need a little something for home, Richard also manages the Rusty Hammer Hardware Store in Running Springs and might be able to run you up some hardware after his shift there. What AWESOME people!

Do not go here! The rude owner did us a favor by discriminating against us as we were forced to go to running springs for the duration of our trip this past week, and in running springs you can find items 10-20% cheaper and a way bigger and better selection. Also, the little bait shop a few doors down sells ice, water, soda, candy, snacks, etc and the owners there do not discriminate and are so sweet. Now on to what happened and my great distaste for this store. My family has had a cabin at green valley lake for the past 20 years. I come up to the cabin 3-4x a year while my extended family is there pretty regularly. I am a supporter of small businesses but the male owner of this store treated my family terribly last week. First off, they are so overpriced, but it's a convenient store so you somewhat expect that. However, when we went to exchange an item we bought that was damaged, he refused to do so and told me that my children were "bad" kids and that it was their fault it was ruined. He clearly doesn't know how to relate to children being excited about getting an ice cream and a candy and expects them to act like quiet robots. He then proceeded to call me a "terrible" mother because my kids weren't quiet robots and told us to go back to Wal-mart. What's up with that, that seemed so discriminatory to me based on our race. For the record, my husband and I are both working professionals and make a great salary but that shouldn't matter anyway. We usually spend a good $50-$100 every time we come to GVL, as well as my parents, my aunt, and my cousins on our collective 20+ visits per year, all of us will be sure to not go here. Do not go to GVL general store unless you are okay supporting an overpriced store who's owner discriminates against certain races and cannot appreciate excited children.

Finally a market with regular hours and an owner that is always being proactive. The owner is always adding to the business creating a much needed service in our town. The market does have a little bit of everything and if you gave a heads up on something extra it is always provided. Great to see the market thriving!

worst experience ever!!!! spent Christmas in Green Valley, I came to the store to buy car chains to get down the mountain, I gave the cashier my tire size, she gave me the tire chains, I went outside to try to put them on and realized they were too big for my tires, I went back inside told the cashier they were too big, she then looked at the diagram she used to determine the size I needed and realized that she had given me the wrong size, unfortunately they didn't have the size in needed, so I asked for my money back, she swore she didn't know or wasn't allowed to give refunds, I tried calling the owner that day but wasn't successful, the cashier then told me that as soon as she got in contact with the owner I would get my money back, so I left the tire chains there and left.. finally a few days later I got in contact with owner, he then told me I wasn't getting my money back,, like I told the owner im not trying to steal or take advantage of anybody I just want my money back, I never used the chains, I never left his store, but for some reason he doesn't want to refund me, he says he reviewed the video and came to the conclusion that it was my fault,, if he really reviewed the video like he said he did he would see that his employee gave me the wrong size and I never used the chains or left his store
