On the Grid : Alfredo's Barbacoa

"Alfredo was born in The Bronx, but his heart belongs to Texas (and Spain too)! If you're looking for real American taste, for a juicy hamburger with no more fuss than good basic ingredients, it's probably your place. Ask for a special Alfredo's Beer and coleslaw salad, and say hi to the hatted man for us please ;)" - id.real

The place is original, it looks like a small town Texas Burger, full of flags and pictures, with a few Spanish references. If you look for a fancy burger or some food fusion, keep walking. But if you look for a good old fashioned US burger, that's your place. The food is tasty, and the fries and sweet potato fries are delicious. The biggest issue for me was that the chef has forgotten a plastic under the meat of my burger. So, when I had a bite, I pulled this plastic with my tooth out of the burger. Quite a disagreeable experience. I have a strong stomach so I have just put it aside but I imagine other people could have throwed-up. I just told the waiter to tell the chef to be cautious with this. No effort made on the bill for this bad experience, we paid the burger full price. The mini pudding was good. The mini cheesecake tasted like supermarket food. The garlic bread with cheese made with burger bread was funny and minimalist.

Delicious burger and salad and fries ! We came here for lunch based on Google reviews after a long morning at the park. It didn’t disappoint! We loved our salad and burgers. Staff was friendly and the restaurant had the AC pumping !

Not Worth a Third Chance This was my second (and definitely last) visit to Alfredo’s Barbacoa, and unfortunately, it confirmed my doubts. I ordered the 4th of July Super Alfredo Burger, supposedly one of their recommended options, but it turned out to be a poor choice. The patty was just a dense, medium-hard ball of ground beef — lacking both flavor and juiciness. The baconaisse and crispy onion did little to elevate it, and I honestly can’t even recall if it had cheese. For a +€17 burger, I expected much more. Even the bun was underwhelming — a basic sesame seed bread that didn’t stand out in any way. I also tried the coleslaw, which was just okay, and finished with the oreo cheesecake, which was overcooked and dry — far from the creamy richness one would hope for. After two visits and 2 years apart I felt the same way, disappointed. I can say this place just doesn't live up to the hype. There are far better burger spots in Madrid for the price and quality.

Google
I have mixed feelings about this place. First the good, the hamburgers were delicious, even though to me a bit strange without lettuce, tomatoes, onions, pickles, etc... The service was good, efficient and quick. Now the bad... we ordered some ribs and they were absolutely terrible, cold, and tasted like they were many days old. The deserts were not homemade, and you could taste it. However, they didn’t charge us for the ribs when we told them how bad they were. The place is very small and felt a bit claustrophobic, but still had a quaint air about it. So why rate it 4 stars? Great burger and good service.

Google
If you’re from the states be aware these meat equivalence: rare means the cow is still waking, medium rare means actually rare. Super size means a big slider with a thick putty. Do not ask for ribs. They made them the day before and give a hot hit before serve it. So the meat is pretty dry and unflavored. Nachos plate also needs an improvement. It is not about a pound of cheese and couple nachos but almost the opposite.

Google
The food was just about standard. The buffalo wings weren't buffalo wings they were pequeño! I opted for the super (large portion) Southern Jack Burger but there was nothing large about it. On the other hand it tasted nice.

Google
Looked like a standard bar, went in to have a bite to eat and people kept rolling in with reservations, the burgers are amazing, the meat is the star of the show. The prices are very moderate and very reasonable in my eyes, really good place for a bite and a stone's throw from the retiro park in central Madrid.

Google
Quality American BBQ restaurant - accurate atmosphere for a Texas - BBQ feel, great flavors, large portions, and fast service. Good sized menu with options for all, including a Beyond Meat burger listed.

Yelp
Great little find right next to the retiro park. The food was absolutely delicious. The service was great. It was a great atmosphere. The waiters were very nice, very accommodating and fairly fast.

Yelp
Absolutely loved this place. I got a cheeseburger with fries and it was great! Probably the best burger I have tried since being here in Madrid. The service was great as well. Although we didn't have a reservation they sat us right away without question.

Yelp
Excellent burger and fries. The bbq sauce is unique and flavorful, almost a mole quality. Service was super nice and accommodating. We will be going back on this trip. I will post pictures!

Yelp
Overwhelming hamburger and killer fries. I asked for the patty to be cooked "poco hecho" and it was an explosion of juicy meatiness. You have to remember that Spain likes to keep it simple, so if you want lettuce, tomatoes, onions, etc, you'll have to ask for it. The buns could have been better -- they're the cheap Bimbo kind that tend to break in your hands. All in all a fun, messy meal. Not your everyday burger joint-- go there to splurge. We were a party of two, got there 15 minutes early and already there was a long line forming outside-- and those are people with reservations. Luckily, one of the waiters noticed that it was our third time back, took pity on us, and found us a table. BOOK IN ADVANCE or else you won't eat!

Yelp
Nice alternative to the other tourist burger places in Madrid. Great ambiance that the locals frequent in an American/Western cowboy themed burger place. Lot's of rodeo and western items on the wall. And a DVD playing Champion Rodeo Bull/Buck Riding on the dining room TV. The star of the show is the burger meat. Very flavorful - I suspect is hand patted into it's shape. I agree with the many other reviewer's comments about the bun. Alfredos could/should find a better landing pad for the burger!

Yelp
The burgers are great but the service is terrible. We had made a reservation the day before, we were a group of 7 and one of our friends was late so we ordered drinks and starters, at the middle of eating our starters a waiter came up to us and said we had to order the main dishes immediately, that there were people waiting and making a queue. So we ordered and it didn't get better, as soon we were done with the last bite of our plate we would have a hand coming over our shoulders picking up the plate and shoving the dessert menu. Overall it was a cool little place to eat, the food was great but the terrible service completely destroyed the experience for us.

Yelp
Fun space, walls covered in americana, but the true star is the meat. The burgers are very simple, but excellent - bun is the only thing that could be improved. The ribs were also nice. The staff (unlike the previous reviewer) are friendly and accomodating - although it is very busy. It's very hard to get a table, make a reservation, or get in just as they are opening. And for dessert, indulge in a brownie completo (with ice cream and chocolate syrup).

Yelp
I went here a couple of weeks ago, and it was amazing. Although my friend's burger was underdone, they happily made her a fresh one. It was delicious and just as good as a quality burger in the US. Although I've had better burgers in the US, I was more than satisfied with Alfredo's burger & fries, *and* this is definitely the best burger I've had in Madrid. Everyone recommends it when you say Spain doesn't have good burgers. :P The environment is great, too--decorated like a real BBQ place should be. It can get crowded, though, so make a reservation if you want to go at a popular time. Good price for the quality/quantity: €21 for ribs, fries, 2 waters, and a burger with all the fixings.
