Nice eatery next to a railway track with occasional trains passing by. May need to queue at times but no issue with it as they clear the order placement process quite fast with an order number on the receipt. They will call you number once your order is ready. Upon collection of your order, you may find a seat in the nicely decorated train cabin to enjoy your meal. It’s a juicy burger with all the necessary cabbage, bacon and cheese. Their soup is also good to have during winter as it will just warm you up. Highly recommended

Google
Perfect biker's stop in on a Sunday afternoon. The atmosphere is welcoming, as friendly staff take your order at the counter, all the way through to sitting down to take a load off in the cosy garden eatery. The food is simple, delicious, fresh, and well made. So glad I decided to try the steak burger, and can't wait to return to try the soup in winter! Highly recommended as a cute date location - because who wants to go to another overrun restaurant you found on Instagram? Try something new, get out of the city, and enjoy an afternoon at Alfred's.

Google
This place is perfect. Unlike a lot of burger places that try to do gourmet and fail to make a good burger, these guys don't try for gourmet, and achieve perfect burgers. Their pea and ham soup is the best I've tried out of everywhere I've been in the UK, France, and eastern Australia. I drove there the other night just for that. Never disappoints. For atmosphere? They have a fire pit and good solid benches to sit at. What else do you need?

Google
I love their pea soup!! The sandwich n burgers are very satisfying too😍

Google
A place where tradition and service outweighs food standards. If we are talking without context, this burger is not great, it reminds me of a fish and ships burger, with a bun that is too large for their contents... Although, it was my preference to opt for the burger bun instead of the recommended wonder bread version... I carry that on me. That being said, the soup was delicious!. The history and the added value of swing them cooking them on my Grandma's woodfire oven, the beauty and friendliness of the waitstaff, the train cabin set up, and countless other experience wise events makes it a place worth to try!

Google
Best burgers in Perth. Chippies are awesome. No disputes entered into. And the lentil burgers have the friends and husband seal of approval. The soup is worth coming for on its own! Make this your next burger stop now.

Hyman

Google
Apparently the best local sandwich I ever had. I would highly recommend you to give it a try, even though it takes long to wait. But it’s worth it. I love their chips.

Google
My husband said their burgers are 5 times better than Mcdonald >.<

Yelp
So iconic on the Guildford strip, great burgers and pea and ham soup. Friendly staff too.

Yelp
An absolute institution... never disappointed with Alfred's. Truely a street food must do if your in Guildford, gastronomically generous and great value, plus as you watch Guildford rd pass you by will make an absolute mess of your pants if your unsuspecting the deliciously delightful mess...

Yelp
If you're a vegetarian or are looking for gourmet ingredients, you're barking up the wrong tree. Alfred's Kitchen is a popular, no-frills, fair-dinkum burger joint where simple, meaty burgers are pumped out of a shack-style window and enjoyed around a rough and ready campfire on cold nights. There is no sourdough, spelt wheat or toasted Turkish bread; just your plaint white, sesame seed bun, and you won't find Wagyu beef, vegan friendly tempeh patties or fancy toppings like Haloumi cheese and spiced relish, just your standard cheddar cheese and mayonnaise with steak, bacon or beef pattie. Alfred's is somewhat of an icon in the hills, and the hoards of flannel and a denim-clad regulars it pulls, speaks volumes. Can't stomach a big burger? Their pea and ham soup served in polystyrene cups is of some repute.

Yelp
This is a Perth institution. If you're coming here to find the next trendy thing, don't. This place is not your new and hip Instagrammable place with kale chips or brioche. It is an old school place with no nonsense, good old fashioned food. The pea and ham soup is the signature - and excellent. The burgers and chips are all good but traditional ingredients done well. After being gone for almost 20 years I was quite excited it was still here and had stayed very true to its roots and not caved in to the new fangled crap pervading Perth with $25 overrated burgers with a lack of care and quality. This place despite being cheap does take a lot of care in its food and so long as you are aware of what you pay and that it is old school, enjoy a proper meal unaffected by the the pressures of modern marketing. It's very comforting to sit in the carriage or around the fire with like minded no nonsense people who just want a good feed at the right price.

Yelp
After a long day's wine tasting on Saturday and meandering home we decided that, rather than cook, a stopover at Alfreds in Guildford was appropriate. This is a Western Australian institution, one of the last of the old style Aussie burger joints. It is amazingly popular - we live not too far away and each night when we drive or walk past it is packed with people often spilling onto the road. A bonfire burns to keep diners warm, with a few benches are alongside for those who want to eat there al fresco while in relatively recent times a railcar has been installed on site for those wishing to dine-in - and that has also proved very popular. Indeed in the past month Alfreds has expanded its trading hours to serve lunch on weekends - and early signs indicate that this is an inspired decision. They turn out a large range of burgers -including a lentil and vegetable burger - and their justifiably famous pea and ham soup. We decided on a vege burger - a bun enclosing a nutty vegetable patty and salad, and the well-known Alfreds Special. This is an old style Australian burger - toast instead of a bun, and with a meat patty, egg, cheese, all the trimmings - juicy, tender and delicious. Hunger pangs thus sated we walked on along home. If you are looking for burger that has real taste and flavour without the sweet buns that the boring chains inflict on you - Alfred's is the place to go. And now for lunch as well!

Yelp
No doubt this is a popular eatery. Burgers are usually good. They used to have the best chips in town but of late they must be rushing to get the orders out because they are being sent out somewhat limp. Still a good place to have their delicious pea and ham soup.

Giles W.

Yelp
I had high expectations going to Alfred's kitchen. I'd been told by a few friends that they were some of the best Burgers around, and after checking some of the reviews on here, that seemed to be true! However, arriving there I was immediately sceptical, Alfred's Kitchen is a roadside takeaway, and not what I'd pictured for 'the best burgers'. With limited seating (small metal benches overlooking the road) and a fire pit (which on these warm evenings now seems a little too hot to be sat around) all over looking the highway, it certainly wasn't a relaxed setting to enjoy a meal. Still, this was about the food and if the food was great then this could be looked past, it's was pretty busy when we arrived so I still had high hopes. However, on this night, after a 20 minute wait Alfred's did not deliver 'the best burger' not even a mediocre burger. From my first bite the burger was burnt, over cooked and very dry. The bacon was fatty and cheese almost tasteless. I've enjoyed better burgers at my local 'Grill'd' and that's a chain restaurant! I like to try and remain positive given the other ratings here, maybe I had the one bad burger of the night, though I'd expect better from a Friday night dinner service. Given the location, if your passing by and really just want anything to eat, give it a try. I certainly wouldn't recommend going out of your way to try these burgers though and struggling to see the appeal.

Juliana K.

Yelp
Uh oh. Hate to rock the boat, but I'm not feeling Alfred's at all. I love the set-up, there's not much like it in Perth. But the burgers did not rock my world (I left most of it) and I don't think I will try it again. Plus their outside only toilet is beyond terrible!

Mei C.

Yelp
I havent been here for along time so after hearing they have a sheltered place you can eat we made it a night to go there. Btw its like a 30 min drive for us to get there. So here we are. Alfreds has an addition of a indoor alfresco dining area . The indoor area is a old train carriage and the alfresco is a gated area outside of carriage. They still had the signature open fire pit they had going on a cold night, which was nice, but it was busy so there was no seats there. Before u had to wait around for your order now they have the buzzer which is good so u can find ur place to sit and wait and not have to stand around waiting. The burgers are still amazing, big and messy to eat but so good value. Definitely a place to get a good feed. They take eftpos and card. There is no surcharge either which is good. Definatly be back. Oh and they have high chair in the carriage seating area.

Felicity L.

Yelp
Alfred's Kitchen really surprised me. The place looks like a bit of a dump. A dump that's clearly a Guildford institution. Nevertheless, a dump. But, I was wrong on this occasion. Wonders really do never cease. I couldn't believe my eyes when I noticed they have over 40 types of burgers! Over 40! Seriously. Alfred's looks like they'd have their one stock standard meat and sauce staple and that'd be it. Well, never judge a book by its cover seems to ring true in this case. They even have a vegetarian burger. Wow, what a progressive little joint! OK, that sounded sarcastic but I actually did enjoy my visit to Alfred's. I want to go back in the winter months and try their apparently famous and to-die-for ham and pea soup, sit outside by the flaming fire and embrace all that is quintessentially Guildford. I reckon I'll hear a few good yarns that night. My report on my summer visit is tops though. I thoroughly enjoyed my veggie burger and the place is down to earth. If you're looking for a casual party atmosphere, no pretension, give Alfred's a try next Saturday night. Go Guildford!

Yelp
On our way to a wedding we had to stop and grab take away for the bridesmaids and groomsmen. The steakburgers are delicious. Just a perfect blend of meat and veggie ratio to bun. The fries were perfect, I'm not a fan of aussie ketchup or tomato sauce as you refer to it. I'm not a fan of pea and ham soup but I had 1 1/2 cups. I'm used to green peas so this was a surprise when I uncovered the soup, mmmm like eating a fork full of peas. The soup is so thick you can eat it with a fork. Looking forward to a return visit.

Liv B.

Yelp
I'm surprised to see some not so great reviews for Alfred's. I love this Guildford (& Perth) institution. I always go for the Cheese & Bacon Burger. I like that whole families go, car & bike club members go, couples go - it really is for everyone. Order ahead if you don't like to wait. Try the pea & ham soup!

Natasha M.

Yelp
I visited Alfred's Kitchen with friends who recommended it as a Perth institution and I can see why! Pulling up to the restaurant we could already see the crowds outside - on a weeknight too! If definitely recommend avoiding weekends if you want to eat on site as the crowds can get crazy. Service was prompt and friendly. I like that Alfred's have a limited range of offerings; they know what they do, and they do it well. I ordered the beef, bacon & cheese burger which was delicious. We also bought one serve of chips to share between the three of us; the burgers are so substantial this will be all you need. Part of the charm for me was the street-foodish atmosphere and sitting outside by the fire pit watching the traffic roll by on Guilford's Main Street. If that's not your cup of tea, there are nearby parks that you could picnic in. Alfred's are proud of the 1940s origins and I can see them being round for many years more! TL; DR? Great burgers. Just go!

Alexandra H.

Yelp
Alfred's kitchen is the best! Open until the early hours of the morning, you can always feed your burger cravings. The burgers here are massive, and while not the most gourmet they are delicious, tasty and well cooked. Try the Cram burger but I would suggest sharing it with a friend as it is massive! The pea & ham soup here is also good and hits the spot. There is just a really nice vibe here on a cold night with everyone sitting around the fire facing each other and stuffing their faces with hamburgers. Love it!

Ashleigh F.

Yelp
THE BEST BURGERS IN WA That's literally all I need to say about this place, they are the best! I struggle to eat a whole Cram burger to myself, but you know what, it tastes just as good cold from the fridge the next morning. Awesome late hour closing times means you rock up at 1 or 2am for a hot tasty burger and chips, soup is awesome starter to get you going. Best bet- it is a favourite with everyone! Wedding parties, bike clubs, car rallies, students, business men, families the variety of people that come is half the fun watching them order by the camp fire burning each night. Love it!

Andrew C.

Yelp
Who couldn't love this Guildford icon. The burgers are greasy and juicy and full of old fashioned flavour. The chips are hot and crispy with lashings of you favourite toppings. The pea and ham soup is epic Make the trek and check it out. Sitting by the fire eating and chatting is the best part!

Alexandra P.

Yelp
Who would have thought it rare to order a good, old fashioned hamburger without gluten free or low carb options, gourmet relishes and fancy cheese. Alfreds serves up meaty patties spiced with their own ingredients or a fillet steak burger with your basic salad options. We've gotten so far away from what a hamburger actually is, that a cheese and bacon hamburger is like gold. There is something about a hamburger that makes my warm gooey and my tummy rumble. Half the fun is the adventure of travelling to Guildford, sitting near the train station and warming up by an open fire. Makes me feel less city girl and also reminds me of my first burger experience here and my fear of bumping into a cool Guildford Grammar boy. Everyone needs to go back to their roots and make the trip to this iconic burger place. So do it!

Tracey N.

Yelp
Amazing atmosphere... the burger size and chips portion is very big at a very reasonable price... not not to mention the chips and gravy

Tina C.

Yelp
Before there was Grill'd in Perth, there was V Burger, then before that was Flipside then before that was Jus Burger, but before that, the original goumet burger with a bite and a size thats too big, but the perfect good ole' quintessential Aussie backyard burger was at Alfred's Kitchen. It has a reputation so big that it surpasses all the other goumet burger joints and even the big man from Masterchef Australia, Matt Preston thinks that Alfred's Kitchen has the best burger in Australia. Even before he came waltzing into town, Alfred's was a local favourite. It has been serving up late-night burgers and pea soup since 1946 and is popular with everyone from bikies to politicians. Droves of people come in to place orders regardless of what time of night it is. Whether it's as soon as it opens or it's late at night, the place was packed. Don't expect fancy dining or even a space like the other burger joints, it's just your casual wooden bench and perhaps if you are lucky and it's winter there is an open fire or unlucky and it's some idiot starting an open fire in the middle of summer. It's just a quintessential Australian roadside stall right next door to the train tracks, simple, but homely and hearty. The burgers were wrapped in butchers paper, and was perfectly layered, prim, and proper. I could tell the Alfred's staff knew what they were doing - constructing a burger was second nature to them; a homemade style burger of pure layered goodness made with love. It was comfort food at its best. Whether you are getting just a hamburger with cheese, or hamburger with cheese, egg, bacon or steak burger, or bacon burger, or lentil burger or veg burger (for those who are vegetarians) or you have a huge appetite and are willing to try the cram (which has a hamburger patty, steak, egg, bacon, cheese and of course salad) or one of Alfred's other famous burgers all are made with love and all will be scoffed down in no time. I can't tell you if it's the best burger in Australia, like Matt Preston has stated, but I can tell you that the ambience and the pure awesomeness of sitting outdoors on benches with all sorts of people and just being chilled, relaxed and not worrying about anything except eating and enjoying the burger and your company makes Alfred's Kitchen one of the best places to go to. PLUS it's fresh, warm and delicious.

Ed M.

Yelp
Had a chance to be in WA and go to Alfred's. Great time was enjoyed by all. Food was hot, fresh and the eating environment was delightful. All the hype and it was good.

Matt T.

Yelp
A proud part of Guildford since 1946, Alfred's Kitchen continues to serve up absolutely first-class burgers and chips, definitely worth the wait - could be half an hour, that's how busy it is! And rightfully so - their burgers are to die for, particularly the CRAM burger - beef patty, steak, cheese, bacon, onions, tomato and lettuce all crammed between a bun! The chips are excellent too, and you get to put on your own condiments on the chips (and burger if you like) too! The atmosphere is excellent too - nothing like people watching by the open fire on a fine evening or night. Haven't tried the pea and ham soup yet, I will aim to do that next time. Will update this review when I've had it.

Sean C.

Yelp
Great feed on any given day, their pea and ham soup is the best, the cramburger is a monster, you need a big mouth to take it on... Delicious!! Home style fast food, great dining experience, outdoors next to a fire pit, with the occasional view of Hot Rods and Muscle cars.

Carolyn B.

Yelp
Just visited last night with family from out of town. My burger was dry and boring--I ate 2/3 of it and left the rest. Given the lengthy wait, it has me wondering is Alfred's worth it?

Michael D.

Yelp
A must do stop for wood stove pea and ham soup, the smell of the open fire on the footpath makes the belly rumble like your camping

Jon M.

Yelp
Right. If you're going to Alfred's expecting a gourmet burger with a selection of wholemeal breads to choose from, you've gone to the wrong place. Leave your nice dress & your best shirt at home, because a trip to Alfred's is a little step back in time. I believe that the Alfred's experience of today is pretty much exactly the same as when they first opened back in 1946. From the open fire pit that burns 365 days a year, to the no nonsense burgers, and that slow cooked pea and ham soup over a wood fire. You have to soak up the moment, breathe in the nostalgia, and embrace the history that the whole dining experience offers. The rest of the world disappears for a moment when you're at Alfred's.

April V.

Yelp
I have to say I love this place, but I also have to say that some times I don't know if I love it because of the food or because of the experience. My first encounter with Alfred's was a late night adventure when there was nothing else to do. Rolling into Guildford, a delight in itself, and pulling up to what I equate to a stationary chip truck is half the fuss about why I love this place. The fire that cranks in the evenings around the bench seating amidst the line ups and young and old alike is statement enough of how good this place is. The fries I like, especially how you can chicken salt and vinegar to your hearts content, the infamous pea soup I enjoy dipping the fried in as well. The best thing I've had here though is the bacon and egg burgers, those are some delicious bad boys.

Dodgy S.

Yelp
Not bad but overrated due to its very nice location and cult status. Food is good, but average fast food. Nothing special or home made. Still the location with fireplace and historical train to sit in is very nice.

Jared M.

Yelp
Okay... I read a review years ago in the Australian and heard about Alfreds by reputation and this evening my partner and I decided to drive out and give it ago.... When we arrived at 6pm. .. There was a big crowd, car park full and the fire pit was burning nicely.... nice atmosphere, very pleasant... Got our burgers and chips... After all the hype I was looking forward to this moment... The bread felt fresh all looked good... tool my first bite ...and... and... A little disappointed!!!! It wasnt bad... it was just, average!!! Maybe I am spoilt ... As I live near freo we have a few burgers places to go to... so the options in regards to burgers abounds.... so Alfreds is a little. .. average... Nothing bad... nothing special. .. but pretty to cool to sit by a fire and watch the planes land at Perth airport...!!!!!

Tel M.

Yelp
The outdoor fire is little compo for the 5/10 food. I could create the same effect in my backyard.

Sal S.

Yelp
Just what the doctor ordered! A fabulous hamburger which you have to hold with two hands. Beautiful lightly toasted bun with the trimmings! And a HUGE amount of crispy HOT chips! YUM! Would recommend it to anyone!

Nell B.

Yelp
Tasty burgers and even tastier chips; always crunchy on the outside, soft on the inside. Never soggy, unless you drown them in the vinegar and chicken salt left on the counter for self serve - YUM! The service however is much to be desired, they want you to know what you want and order fast, which can be difficult for a newbie as their menu isn't very detailed; A man was ordering for his family ahead of us and the staff member said "you haven't been here before have you?" which was unnecessary and made the guy clearly uncomfortable. Good for a fast eat and cosy on a cool night but not the place to go if you're after service with a smile

Holly C.

Yelp
The coolest burger joint yet ! The fire pit is welcoming and family's come to eat burgers and have a great time. Love it !

Adrian R.

Yelp
Alfred's has been a local gem for as long as I can remember it. ! Open every night till late weather it be for there famous pea and ham soup or my fav cram burger you just can't go wrong!! Highly recommended !

John C.

Yelp
Great old fashioned Aussie burgers served with a lot of Australian humour and style. Everything from the screeching your number to pick up your meal to the raging roadside fire is how relaxed and casual our country should be. Love Alfreds love Guildford

Greg B.

Yelp
Alfred's has the Greatest Pea and Ham Soup ever, the Alfred's Special is a meal fit for a king delicious mmm, icon quality it's great.

Brian C.

Yelp
This place is Perth institution. It has been around forever, okay, well a long long time, way before I was born. This place knows how to do homemade comfort food. This yummy but unpretentious burgers and steak sandwiches. This place is part experience. You are given your order in a brown bag and if you stay you can sit on benches around a communal fire, if you don't mind the smoky atmosphere. Alfred's draws an interesting crowd, which makes people watching fun.

Kateryna B.

Yelp
Tried the cram burger and it was enormous!! It was hard to finish even though I was initially starving. The burger it self though was very good, but nothing new that sparked interest; egg, steak, bacon - very generic but a good filler!

Dodgy S.

Yelp
Cheap, yummy, great fire place and community crowd, family friendly. Went there with young kids, friends. Always meet nice people and share a meal. They have a train now where you can dine in.

Amy Z.

Yelp
so i went back with a bunch of friends for a late night snack, and absolutely loved their cram burger! and their portion sizes are massive!! I couldnt even finish one burger by myself! but everything else still remained the same, and still am not a fan of outside eating in the cold.

Isabella C.

Yelp
This place seems very 'meh', burgers are just a lot of bread with a bit of meat, soup was gross, I only ever go if there's nothing else open

Michelle P.

Yelp
A quintessential establishment in Perth that delivers on great traditional burgers and food for a good price. I've always love coming here with family as a kid, and still enjoy it now as an adult. I'm absolutely in love with their chips and gravy, something so simple but I can't fault it haha definitely something you have to come down and experience especially in the evening around the bonfire.

Pamela J W.

Yelp
Where do u go 5 hrs after the Yelp beach party finished Why Alf's of course Legend of the burger Yum yum xxxx Cash only, great value bring an appetite luscious burgers only description. Adding an eat in train carriage, sure to be something worth trying

Baz P.

Yelp
This is one of the best burgers I have had since moving to Perth. Awesome in winter sitting by the fire.

Claire P.

Yelp
Alfred's Kitchen is a popular, warm and inviting place. With the fire roaring out the front, it's appealing to snuggle up by the fire and eat a burger. It's also nice to watch the trains whizz past. The service takes a very long time and burgers aren't the warmest. The only outdoor toilet is very disgusting. However, the food is not too bad. Burgers are usually good. Three stars for the nice setup, homely feeling and good food.

John A.

Yelp
We finally made the trek to famous burger store in Guilford. We were fourth in the queue, so we avioded the large crowd. We secured a seat infront of the fire, which the kiddies loved and gave us a great spot to enjoy our food. After a lengthy 30-+ min wait the chips, cram burger and hamburger with cheese were ready for devourment. The cram burger was a very filling item on the menu which took some persitance to finish. Sadly alot of the ingredients let it down, as the steak was beyond over cooked and full of grissle, the beef pattie was very bland and really lacked seasoning and punch of flavour. The hamburger with cheese was of a similair grade as the Cram and lacked that big hit of balanced flavours. The chips we ordered as a side were oily and soggy with the odd chip making the grade and having a nice cruuuuunch. We ordered the Pea and Ham soup for the road, so i snuck a quick taste on the way home, but sorry Alfreds my Nan's is so much nicer. To be honest im surprised that there is so many reviews idolising Alfreds, but to be frank it just isnt that great. I did like the whole experience but only just, there are superior burger products throughout Perth that utilise better buns, patties and vego fillings, although the price generally will be over the $10 mark. (Novembars cafe) In summary a great place to visit and sit by the fire, but dont come here expecting a gastronomic experience. Oh and people, you are not ignorant if you don't like alfreds like John pointed out (above), it just means your not following the crowd. Food 5.5/10 Service 6/10 Decor 7/10 (Fire and atmosphere)

Genevieve H.

Yelp
The first out-of-town place people think to visit with out-of-towners is always Fremantle. But I strongly believe Guildford should be a priority too. Is it not a beautiful remnant of our english heritage? Leafy 'burbs with roses bushes, an old post office, secondhand shops and not to mention the most beautiful church in Perth, the Guildford Grammar chapel. Another much-loved remnant is Alfred's Kitchen. This place started as a food truck but they eventually made it a permanent burger window and added the fireplace which comes ablaze on those cold winter nights. Located on the historic main road, Guildford Road, it is a thoroughfare frequented by ambulance workers, truckies, bikie gangs, theatre-goers coming from the neighbouring school, as well as oddballs night owls who get the munchies at 2.30am on a friday or saturday... Yep this place is open until 3am on those nights! It's a feat to get served food at that hour in the CBD, so the fact that it is worthwhile for this place to be open until this hour in the leafy burbs speaks volumes of their food and amount of loyal customers. This place is a great place for people watching, especially at those strange hours where all kinds come out to play. I've also seen enough amazing vintage cars in the carpark on multiple occasions to make me wonder if i've been transported to Cuba. Guildford's finest are all here, leather jackets, vintage cars, mullets and all. A breathe of fresh air after the crowds in some of those stuffier suburbs like Claremont.

Gina I.

Yelp
Simple delicious burgers, which will always satisfy. If you're looking for gourmet, this isn't your place, but I think any foodie could appreciate this place. Coming to Alfred's Kitchen is not about getting a burger to feed your hunger. Coming to Alfred's Kitchen is an experience in itself. People from all around Perth come to hang out around the fire pit. Bring your own beer, and make a night of it. Alfred's Kitchen if open until 3am! Yes, 3am on Friday and Saturdays! That's reason enough to come down to Alfred's. The lines can be long and a cheeseburger is $8, but I can't complain. Everything about my experience was fun and fulfilling.

Jo-Harri M.

Yelp
I expected too much from the burgers on a flavor quality point of view and I was disappointed. I think the novelty of eating here on winter by the bonfire is what will make me go back to this place.

Janine O.

Yelp
Looking for chunky chips and an awesome lentil burger? Then Alfred is the place to go. I love going in winter at night when the fire pit is lit. There is a lot of atmosphere and the food is fast and fresh.
