7 quirky themed cafes in Taipei you have to visit - SilverKris

"Stepping inside feels like falling down the rabbit hole into a whimsical storybook world: chequered floors, giant tea cups and a green maze set the scene for Mad Hatter–style tea parties. Colourful desserts and heart-shaped dishes are served by staff in blue frocks, and Alice-inspired artwork—giant books, white rabbits and playing cards—are scattered throughout, with themed menus, placemats and food that reference the novel’s characters and offer plentiful photo opportunities." - Joy Fang

The food tasted pretty good but the facility looked a little bit run-down. Nothing noticeable at first-glance but if you look closely you can see some paint chipping and other small details like that. The server was friendly and she spoke basic English. She made sure to inform us though that pictures are not allowed until after we order. The prices are pretty reasonable though.

The food and drinks were delicious and cleverly themed, quick service and the interior was very interesting (it’s a shame the bathrooms weren’t themed though). I recommend to get a set as it’s better value however it is standard themed cafe prices so it’s mostly cheap. It’s easy to spot from outside and the whole time they were playing Alice in Wonderland songs which was nice. I totally recommend it!

If you love Alice in wonderland then this cafe is for you outside you wouldn't see the Alice in wonderland vibe but once you go in it's a like a totally different world I think that's the idea actually then the entrance to the cafe is full on Alice in wonderland and when you enter the cafe itself it's definitely magical and plus factor they play music from Alice in wonderland. The food is okay (I don't know if the main dish is better but I got dessert and drink and it's not that exemplary) but the food is very pretty plus the staff are wearing Alice dress how cute is that? Anyway location is very accessible just few minutes walk from ximen mrt station and after your cafe experience you can actually enjoy ximen night market just few minutes walk from the cafe.

The food was okay, I like Alice in wonderland so give it credit for the theme. But I definitely think the shop owner needs to work on the renovations and cleanliness of the whole place in general. The staff were dressed in Alice's dress outfit but you could tell the costume has been around for a while with stains (my least expectations for restaurants are for staff to dressed cleanly). Service is so so like other reviews mentioned, but that particular staff may have just been having a bad day, god knows. They gotta work on their kitchen ventilation too, the oily smell was around the restroom area, gets a little unbearable.

It has been taken over by other anime only parts of it still in Alice's theme (shop's name, door and some conner) For the food, do not expect much about it's taste and it's not 100% like the picture in the menu. Over all is bad.

One of my favourite character cafes in Taipei. Food’s Great, especially the Afternoon Tea selection.

Cute alice in wonderland cafe. Food is good, service is nice. Would skip this next time and head to an other themed cafe.

Drinks are great, abit expensive... nearly the price as the foods. Great desserts too.

Yelp
Came here for brunch with my husband. Since I've never had afternoon tea style food, we decided to try it. Overall, it wasn't bad but way too many sweets in the morning. We started off with the sandwiches on the bottom which were good. As we work our way up, we were overwhelmed with the sweetness of everything and did not finish. The afternoon tea option does come with two drinks and it was all for less than $30 USD which is great compare to US

Yelp
If you like themed restaurants, especially all-decked out cutesy restaurants, then Alice Is Coming is the restaurant for you. This place is incredibly cute - from the minute you walk into the restaurant and basically "fall" into the rabbit hole, you know you're in for a treat. This café is located close to XiMen on the second floor across from a shopping center. The outside isn't as decked out as the interior, with only the name of the restaurant and the different suits of cards as background. But upon opening the door and seeing the stairs leading up covered with fake leaves, you're immediately taken into a new world that makes you forget you're even in Taiwan. At least for me. Everything in this restaurant is detail oriented. From the black and white checkered floor to the figurine of the Ace of hearts standing guard, you're going to fall in love with this café. I spent a few quarters studying "Through the Looking Glass" by Carroll and I was taken back to my days of analyzing Alice just like that. The bookshelves, the giant teacup table, the huge plates, forks, and teacups, the silhouette of Alice on the wall - it's just so amazing that you have to experience this for yourself. Unfortunately we were so enamored by our surroundings that we failed to look at the menu correctly. We saw a sign for a Christmas dinner for two and assumed that was the popular tea set that they served here. My sister had been dying to try English tea for a long time now, and we thought we were finally going to get it! But nope - the joke was on us. Christmas Dinner Set for Two: -Drinks: Alcoholic Mixed Drink - pretty to look at, but didn't have much taste to it at all. -Alice: This was the better drink out of the three that we tried. This was a Sprite mixed with blue curacao and vanilla ice cream. Loved the color of the drink and watching it fizz when we mixed the ice cream with the Sprite. It was pretty sweet, but I thought it was a good dessert drink. -White Rabbit: Also a Sprite strawberry mix with vanilla ice cream although this was a bit more sour than the Alice. It was pretty, but I definitely preferred the sweetness of the Alice. Entrees: -Baked Lasagna dish: It was pretty good, but quite heavy. With the cheese and cream sauce, I thought the flavors were a bit too strong. My sister thought it tasted decent, but she couldn't finish much because it was so heavy. -Baked Chicken: I liked this more than the lasagna. There was also a thick layer of cream and cheese on top, which gave the chicken more flavor. It came with broccoli and some vegetables, and overall wasn't a bad dish, but not something I would normally order. Dessert: Some cake assortment - a cake with a huge Christmas tree frosting piled on top, a lemon bar with whipped cream and strawberries, and a cute decoration of Alice in chocolate syrup. Looked good, but did not taste good. Frosting tasted artificial, cake was dry, lemon bar was too hard - not good. We also ordered a curry chicken rice. Sounds good right? But ... what came out was laughable! A small amount of rice with curry around it. And CHICKEN NUGGETS instead of chicken. They seriously need to make sure the customers know it is chicken nuggets and not chicken curry. This is like the frozen chicken nuggets you can find at the grocery store. Laughable and not even good! Chocolate and banana waffle - It looked good and tasted okay. But not my preferred waffle of choice. Waffle wasn't too sweet and with all that ice cream, banana, syrup, it's enough to give the waffle flavor. Service is decent. The workers know and expect you to take pictures, so they pretty much just leave you alone after you order and they give you your food. It was really hard to flag them down for some extra utensils and plates since they were sitting behind the counter braiding each other's hair. tl;dr - You're basically paying for the experience of eating at this café. I wouldn't recommend coming here and eating a meal. The tea set definitely looks like a better deal. Good place to sit and catch up with friends while sipping on a drink or eating dessert. The atmosphere is really cute and while I did see a few couples here for a date, I would suggest having a girls get together here versus having a date. 5 stars for the atmosphere! 2 stars for ate.

Yelp
T H E M E [+3] Very very beautiful cafe based on the children's fairy tale story of Alice in Wonderland. I have a very very big obsession with Alice and I was extremely delighted to come here with the ladies in my family and have tea with my favorite characters! The cafe was filled to the brim with Alice references and decorations. The tables were checkered prints and there was a tea cup table and a rose garden table for larger groups. The tea set was Alice themed and very modern, polished, and shiny! The windows had Alice character window clings and they had Alice decor literally in every corner. They even had a rabbit cut out station with a deck of cards flying in the background! It was beautiful! T E A [+2] As for the tea itself, I had an earl grey drink and they refilled my hot water. The treats were presented beautifully in the tier and were spaced nicely. T R E A T S [-1] The treats themselves were a bit sweet, but the savory treats were perfect. A little bit lower on the sugar and I would have given it five stars! This place is definitely a must try if you adore Alice! It's also close to the Ximending Station so it's also convenient to come here before or after shopping! Enjoy! Tip: It is located above the Family Mart, but the door is to the right of the mart and it is green. It's like you're exploring and going down the rabbit hole!*^^*

Yelp
I think out of most themed restaurants that I went to during my time in Taiwan, this was probably my favorite one with actually decently good food. Most themed restaurants have pretty cute looking food and decorations but you're paying more for the expensive than for quality food. However, I think Alice Is Coming does a good job doing both: having a great themed restaurant, providing that experience, and having great food. The king/queen toast sets my friend and I ordered were so tasty. It was not overly sweet yet it was pretty savory. I love how fruity it was too. I don't remember what my drink was called but it was a typical fruity drink that looked very pretty as it went with their theme. There were also some areas inside their restaurant that are great to take pictures with too. So if you're ever in the ximending area, don't miss out on this themed restaurant!
