Nilpena Ediacara National Park in Australia Is Home to Dramatic Scenery, Incredible Wildlife, and the Oldest Fossils in the World — How to Visit

"Named whimsically after Arlo Guthrie’s song when Dr. Mary Droser’s team identified it, Alice’s Restaurant Bed is a unique fossil assemblage made up of around 500 pieces displayed inside the Blacksmith’s Shop, where audiovisual projections animate the specimens and visitors can make 3D casts of the creatures using putty." - Justin Meneguzzi Justin Meneguzzi Justin Meneguzzi is an award-winning journalist and photographer based in Melbourne, Australia. Came in for a meal since I was in the area. I'm glad I don't live closer, I'd be way more broke and way fatter than I already am. The food was absolutely delicious. Caution to those of you snobbish. Karen's grumpy because they didn't serve you 2 seconds after you walked in. This is a slow chill country vibe where the food and service gets to you when it gets to you. It took a while for ordering and getting food. No complaints, But it was absolutely worth the wait. If you've ever been to Wex in New Mexico for breakfast, this place felt like home away from home. Vibe, decor, and just good food. My gal got the chicken fried steak. Absolutely delicious. My only criteria for chicken fried steak is if you can cut it with a fork. 100% could. I got the juevos enchiladas with their mole sauce and a side of beans. Think they called the potatoes papa's. Had onions and bell peppers. Delicious. Took half the meal home for breakfast the next day. Sausage patty was alright. Definitely had that herby sage flavor some sausages do.

This place is amazing! Tucked away in an industrial area but easy to find. The staff welcomed us as we walked in, seated us right away and shared their specials. The kids menu has funny meal names, their portions are huge and their salsa is so good, I took some home. Their heart shaped scones with yummy soft butter completes every meal.!

Google
I visit regularly and it has always been a good experience. Everyone is polite, helpful, and competent. Good quality food at a reasonable price. They get extra brownie points for being the only restaurant to ever give me as many pickles on my burger as I ask for (they go above and beyond 😅). Also, their fries are great!

Google
The location is interesting, as it's in an industrial area, but don't let that stop you from visiting. The huge heart-shaped scones are wonderful. Pretty good price for a large amount of food.

Google
Chicken fried steak was a huge portion. Everything tasted great. The French toast was a bit in the chewy side but all the flavors were good. The customer service was good. They were nice and made me feel comfortable. The only thing, I disliked the coffee.

Toni B.

Google
Fabulous place!! I liked it!! I wished I had taken pictures of my meal. I had the chicken fried steak. It was huge portion. Hubby had eggs and bacon. Food was delicious had a bit of a hang up with the scones. But they redid it to go since we didn't notice until the end of the meal. Its in a little hideaway place but we will come back here again. Reminds me of the old coffee shops where you can go and sit awhile to enjoy a cup and a meal without being rushed out.

Google
I recommend the blueberry pancakes, scones and chorizo egg plate. Probably wouldn't order the club sammich again. It's too much like what you'd make at home for a quick lunch.

Google
My friends and I went here after a hike on Sunday afternoon and we don’t live in this area, so we found Alice’s Kitchen . We were not disappointed…..This place was so good! Service was fast and every single one of our plates was so good! The Scones with the Honey Butter were a must get. We will 100000%. Be coming back here.

Yelp
Overall 4 stars, but the stellar service from Angela was a 10! She was great, kind, and genuinely caring during our whole meal, while busily taking care of many diners. This was our first visit to Alice's kitchen during a quick breakfast visit to Salt Lake City, after reading the positive Yelp reviews. I ordered a half turkey sandwich with the broccoli cheddar soup and a side of hash browns. The broccoli cheddar soup came out lukewarm and definitely needed to be heated more, so Angela took it back and had it heated up and it turned out delicious. The 1/2 turkey sandwich was also tasty and just the right size. The side order of hashbrowns came out undercooked and not hot. So Angela took that back, which she happily did as well, to have it heated up and then it came out better when it was brought back. My hubby ordered a veggie scramble with salsa and he truly enjoyed his meal, with no concerns at all. His meal included a side scone, which was incredible and amazingly delicious. It is not the typical scone you would expect, but instead it's a fluffy fry-bread type of pastry that was huge. Order this for sure! The place was packed with all sorts of friend groups and families on a Saturday morning. Definitely a local's place as the location is in an industrial area. Loved the casual atmosphere and great service.

Yelp
Great little truckstop spot. Good prices good food. Plenty of food. Really liked the turkey club sandwich.

Yelp
It's been awhile but best breakfast ever! Worth the 12 mile drive to have great food and fantastic service! I feel they have the best scones!! I love it so fluffy and crunchy with a soft interior! Huevos Rancheros is huge and awesome but flavor is on point ! Mini breakfast - 2 eggs - bacon and best scone ever! They keep water on the table and good coffee! Service is always on point- love this place.

Peggy C.

Yelp
Get the Huevos Rancheros and order the tots as a substitute. My favorite breakfast anywhere!
google avatar

Wes T.

Yelp
This may be what they meant when they created the term "greasy spoon" if they meant an awesome down to earth diner feel. It is definitely off the beaten path in an industrial area and it may not have the greatest curb appeal but the food and service were both top notch. My son had the chili verde and eggs and I had the Spanish omelette both were excellent. But starting with the fried scone w honey butter was delicious. Even the coffee as good without being $6! There is nothing gourmet but it is large portions and delicious. The server was also friendly and helpful with a permanent smile. Don't hesitate when you pull up. Martha Stewart didn't decorate it but any chef would have to appreciate it.

Yelp
Can't complain. Food is better than average. Service was great. This is in a nondescript spot. Almost couldn't find it.

Yelp
Man oh man I thought SLC didn't have no good food but this place changed my mind wow everything on the plate had flavor was seasoned to perfection and the customer service was amazing will definitely be coming back
google avatar

Yelp
No frills, just great food and service. Scone was absolutely delicious. What a treat!

Yelp
What a fantastic find! We decided to meet up with some friends that live in North SLC for breakfast and I mentioned that I had found Alice's Kitchen on Yelp. This little gem of a restaurant is located off the beaten path (you will seriously question if you are in the right area when driving to the place the first time), but it was so ever worth finding it. Several Yelp reviews we read mentioned that it was noisy, and yes it was... but not any worse than most restaurants we eat at regularly. So don't let that deter you from seeking it out. Despite the odd location, the interior atmosphere was fun and eclectic, but felt cozy, and the customers there for breakfast on a Sunday morning were very diverse. The hostess immediately cleaned off a table for us and grabbed our coffee and menus and made sure we were well taken care of until our server arrived. The menu is wonderful and it took us a good 10 minutes to finally settle on our dishes. Our server, who was very sweet and attentive, recommended the Chili Verde, which was served on several Mexican inspired breakfast dishes. We took her advice and ordered the Breakfast Burrito smothered in Chili Verde, a couple orders of the Huevos Rancheros (again with the Chili Verde), and the Mini-Breakfast. (Which was not so "mini" with its big, beautiful scone.) The portion sizes are pretty hefty and we made an old school try to finish them since they all tasted so delicious, but had to call it quits because we couldn't stuff anymore in. We are planning another trip to the area soon and I cannot wait to go back and try their tamales (a special that day), Navajo Taco and Monte Cristo. I'm drooling now just thinking about it and wish we lived closer. We will definitely be making this our "go-to" breakfast location while in t

Yelp
The food at Alice's Kitchen is great. It is located in an industrial sort of an area, so don't expect a fancy landscape outside, but the trip will be well rewarded with a great breakfast. I had the Meat Lovers omelet and Scone. I'd have driven here just for the Scone, it is amazing. The waitress was awesome and paid just the right amount of attention to me.
google avatar

Sara R.

Yelp
Everything was great at this hidden gem. We couldn't even finish everything, much to our disappointment. I wish all scones were like this!

Doug P.

Yelp
Killer home made food and it's all good. Chicken fried steak is best around and made fresh not frozen.

Yelp
I checked this place out Sunday for brunch & it was surprisingly really good! It's located in a truckers area so I wasn't sure what to expect but the reviews on this place are really good! There was plenty of parking & seating, but I could see how it would be pretty full in there at times too. Staff was friendly as well. I ordered the Over the Boarder Platter which is just country potatoes, cheese, eggs covered in chile verde. I had them put the chile verde on the side so I was able to put it on the potatoes myself, skipping out on the big chunks of meat in this. It was really good! Spice level on this sauce was mild but had great flavor! I had a scone with it. The scone was to die for! I feel like it's hard to find a really good scone around here! My boyfriend ordered the Jake Brake breakfast special. I really liked the biscuit and gravy on this dish! He also ordered the short stack pancake & this pancake was huge, with a cute little design it in for St. Patty's Day! We both really liked this place & would definitely recommend.

Yelp
Went back and got some take out since they were gonna close in an bit. Food is still good and plenty of it. The wait staff were quick and spot on.

Yelp
If you're looking for an old school diner with great service, huge portions of delicious food, and a sign that says hippies are served in the back, this is your place. They served this hippy and amazing enchiladas ranchero and my husband a "pretty good" country fried steak. You have to go around back to find it. Priced reasonably too.

Ben M.

Yelp
Freaking amazing!! Amazing hole in wall with massive portions, good coffee ( Megan and others keep the cups topped off) Everything was delicious, perfect and amazing prices.

Yelp
You know when you find a place that the locals love but none of the touristy or foody types even know it exists? That's this place tucked away on the lot of a trucking maintenance company. Even if you have the address, it's easy to think it's no longer there, but it is- just drive a little further and look back to the right. Alice's Kitchen is a wonderful southwestern, diner-style cafe that excels in comfort food and excellent service. If you come more than a few times and/or tip well, don't be surprised if the staff know your name, how you want your food, and what you want to drink. The decor is a delightfully-cheesy, highway-diner kitsch mixed with artsy golden-age Hollywood and popular music royalty prints. The food is a combination of Southwestern highway diner, Northern Mexican cuisine, and Colorado plateau flavors. Whether you love salsa with your eggs, a breakfast burrito that includes chorizo sausage, or a monster plate of delicious french toast you're going to love this place. You get a lot of food for very reasonable prices! My all-time favorite breakfast potatoes are the (off-menu) extra crispy hashbrowns served with cheese and diced onions. Those next to a Smothered Breakfast Burrito hit the spot and fill you up, even if you're very hungry! Be sure to get there early on a Saturday morning or the line is often out the door, and you'll have to smell and wait for heaven.

Yelp
Great location. Nice people at the desk. Kinda clean rooms...very small and very old with all the issues you would expect.
google avatar

Irina K.

Yelp
Just a great spot for quick sit down breakfast. Tucked away in some sort of industrial area but right off of the highway. Everything was big and tasty. Coffee was delicious. Service was so fast and friendly. Highly recommend!
google avatar

James K.

Yelp
Excellent breakfast. Super friendly staff that took great care of me. Huevos Rancheros was wonderful.

Yelp
Food is great, service is great. We eat here as often as we can. The scones are incredible. Yum!

Jose P.

Yelp
The service was amazing and the food delicious, we live the scones . Definitely recommend.
google avatar

Yelp
This is an amazing place to dine. I'm on a ketogenic diet so on "cheat day" I eat here. In the scales of workload vs manpower Alice's appears to be overly burdened, so there will be longer wait times; however, the high calibre of food preparation and quality is worth the wait. The ambiance relaxing and somewhat nostalgic. It's like an Alaskan diner. I look forward to eating here every summer that I'm here. If undecided regarding the bread item, try the scone. Guy Fieri should visit this hidden treasure !! Bon Appetite !!!
google avatar

Polina K.

Yelp
Tucked in the middle of the industrial district of the west side of the city, Alice's Kitchen offers an oasis of homestyle comfort food. We went in for breakfast, I got the Rambler platter, which offered a very generous portion of homestyle potatoes, chicken fried steak, gravy, and eggs. Additionally, a delicious and satisfying scone came on the side. My friend got the Denver omelet which also came in a generous portion and was delicious. The coffee is served in whimsical mugs, which definitely helped to wake me up in the morning. Fun atmosphere, friendly staff, and yummy comfort food (and lots of it).
google avatar

Alex S.

Yelp
I had high hopes for this place ! But there is nothing but the nice fluffy scone the toast the eggs so small ham and bacon seamed to be air fried just dry ! And hash browns I was even surprised they where nut frozen still ! Not even offered a refill on coffee that was watered down as well!
google avatar

Michelle D.

Yelp
Great food, fairly good service. Simple ambiance. Yummy scones(Utah kind)! Only complaint for me is it's too much food! But that's great for most others!
google avatar

Jeni O.

Yelp
Great customer service!!! Friendly, fast, efficient. Forgot to take pictures as we scarfed our breakfast Definitely great stop on our way to Logan
google avatar

Terry H.

Yelp
The food was good but the service was super slow. The location is odd, it's tied to a big truck repair... the atmosphere is not good, I would not recommend this place.
google avatar

Patricia E.

Yelp
Needed to waste some time in Salt Lake on a Friday and wanted a local, traditional breakfast. Used Yelp to find Alice's Kitchen. Thank goodness for GPS - it's literally in an industrial warehouse area, but all the pickup trucks in the parking lot reassured me I had made the right choice. Not super busy at this time, apparent regulars, relaxed atmosphere, seat yourself. Very nice service. Waitress brought carafe of water & took drink order. When I asked about the corned beef hash, she said she had not had it but it was from a can, if that helped my decision. I ordered the Jake Brake - biscuit with sausage gravy, sausage patty and hash browns. I asked for hash browns to be well cooked, and they were just right. The biscuit was taller than any other biscuit I've had, and the gravy was crazy tasty! I think my check was about $12. And I am so going back!
google avatar

Yelp
*update! This place is so childish. Because I gave an accurate description of what happened, they cancel my order when I try to order on Grubhub. They admitted that's why, GO TO RAMBLIN ROADS INSTEAD. So I made an order to go. When it arrived there's was no strawberry syrup or jam, which I expressly asked for in the order. When I called back to tell them, the lady cut me off mid sentence as I was saying "my only issue is that there was no strawberry syrup or jam" what she cut me off to say was (we don't have flavored syrups) at which point I asked if they had strawberry Jam. She informed me that they did, but the order didn't ask for it. I told her I remember writing it, and she said "nope" I then pulled out my phone to triple check whaat I had wrote, told her that I did intact write it. She again told me I was wrong. Mistakes get made, but to deny it so confidently and tell me I'm wrong, is insane customer service. I have attached a photo where it shows that I did ask for whichever they had of the two. And to be clear, she didn't say there was a mix up and she didn't understand. She just tried real hard to convince me that I don't remember what I wrote, or know how to read.

Martin S.

Yelp
Amazing Everything we ordered was spot on We'll be back every weekend. They continue to impress no matter what I order off of their menu and the service is great super friendly. You just Gotta make sure you call before you go because sometimes they are not open on Sundays.

Jay H.

Yelp
Good food. I like the scones and they will if you ask change your meal by adding or subtracting to it. The servers are always friendly
google avatar

Ethan S.

Yelp
Amazing scones! I love the Chile verde smothered breakfast skillet. And all the other skillets and omelet's. It's a cool spot hidden among all the commerce in North Salt Lake.

Vili T.

Yelp
Hands down! BEST PLACE to EAT in all of Utah! we love this place, the foods amazing , service is great and that is rare in this state. I work close by but live all the way in Sandy and will drive 30 min here on my day off just to eat here. this is the one place I will miss when I leave.
google avatar

Ashley S.

Yelp
Staff was great. Food was awful. Not sure where the 4.5 stars comes from but definitely don't drive out of your way for this place.
google avatar

Leidy C.

Yelp
Food was delicious at a very good price. Our waitress was attentive and great with the service.

DJ X.

Yelp
Great place for breakfast. They give you large portions , and good selections. Highly recommend.

Cristina P.

Yelp
I order their nacho grande I only order half of the order and they over charged me as a large and I order the Chile verde, it turn out to be a chicken. The cheese it's not even melted. I ask not to put olives they put extra olives This whole order was messed up. I regret now pay $16 for some crappie nachos, i guess now I'll go to del taco instead, if I could give 0 starts I'll do it.u

Yelp
Surprised to find this place in an industrial park. It's was bustling with people on a sat morning around 9:30. We met up with some friends from out of town and had a great, hearty breakfast. Our first exposure to fried scones and it was delicious with the honey butter on top. Who wouldn't love fried bread? Good little find! Service was slow but was expected due to shortage on wait staff.
google avatar

Lynn O.

Yelp
Scones were wonderful. Friendly and casual space. Clean. It was a perfect breakfast stop coming through town with good coffee.
google avatar

Julie S.

Yelp
We were looking for a good basic breakfast on the west side of town. The reviews of Alice's Kitchen were good so that's where we headed. We were surprised to find it located in an active warehouse area, perfect for truckers to grab food. Our breakfasts were fine - nothing outstanding and nothing bad. But it is basically a truck-stop cafe - pretty barebones. If I had been prepared for that, I probably would've appreciated it more. But I don't think I would've gone out of my way to eat there had I fully understood where the restaurant was located. The waitress was super nice, though!
google avatar

Cecilia L.

Yelp
Would never have found this spot if not for yelp. Just finished working out and didn't feel like cooking so we jumped on to search for nearby breakfast spots and Alice's popped up. After only reading a few reviews we jumped in the car and followed GPS to get here. It's not a spot you drive by but it's not a spot you want to pass up! It's in an industrial park area and in a lot behind a fence looks like it's a mechanic shop. But when you walk in it is a huge dining room with a large counter by the kitchen and a separate dining room in the back for large groups. You seat yourself when you come in and are greeted within moments by a server with a carafe if water. Love this. I drink water like crazy so I love being able to just refill as I eat. The whole restaurant is clean and inviting and the servers are fantastic! I ordered the mini breakfast (2 eggs, 2 strips of bacon and toast or a scone)- $5.99 I got the bacon on the side so I could give it to fiancé and I got toast AND a scone so I could try both. Eggs were cooked perfectly and I actually enjoyed eating them. I order eggs for protein but I don't really like to eat them. I'm really picky about how they are cooked or have to be in the mood to eat them. But these were not too greasy and seasoned just enough and the eggs were not slimy at all. I was actually able to eat them without having to put them in bread to disguise them!! The scone was HUGE!!! And oh so delicious. It was a pillow of dough fried just right with a doughy center and the sauce they serve with it (honey butter) tasted like it had some Vanilla in it. So it was like eating dessert for breakfast. Sooooo good!!! Fiance ordered Long haul$6.99: French toast was 4 pieces of thick bread served with delicious whipped butter. They were cooked well (egg mix and bread consistency just about perfect) and just what you expect from a greasy spoon. With the Texas toast it was a bit more chewy and more savory. Hit the spot. Sausage patty is pretty big and decent tasting nothing special. Bacon was crispy yet chewy cooked just right and packed with flavor. We both ate every last bite of our meals. Service was amazing. Food was perfect hole in the wall greasy spoon without being super greasy hit the spot get in my belly!! Both of us ate for 19 bux!! We have found our new local breakfast spot to hit up on the weekends. We will be back and we will be sure to tell friends about it.
google avatar

Aaron W.

Yelp
Ran in for a breakfast burrito to go. Waitress service was fantastic! Burrito which was their basic burrito was average. Really good bacon pieces but the cheese wasn't even melted, had cheddar cheese shreddings all through it that weren't melted. Hardly any egg. I'd go back and give it another try but would skip the burrito.
google avatar

Jenna R.

Yelp
Absolutely delicious and top notch service ! Everything we ate was great! Place was very clean .

Jeffrey T.

Yelp
A HIDDEN GEM!!! It's in a commercial area and difficult to find, but once you do!!! My breakfast is a difficult one to cook. The food came out perfectly the way I ordered it! The portions are big. I was traveling through town and decided to go there a second time and again the meal was cooked perfectly!!!I highly recommend!!!
google avatar

Jamie M.

Yelp
Coming home from Salt Lake thought we would check this place out. Its by industrial businesses but not to hard to find. The services was so good. All the ladies that were working that day were so sweet and on top of getting us water and coffee. The food was delicious!!! I got just the eggs and bacon with a scone. Honestly the scone was a little too oily but love the honey butter. My husband got the smothered breakfast burrito and he LOVED IT!! There was so much other foods we want to try, so we will be back for sure!
google avatar

Carv W.

Yelp
This is right next to the refinery, so has the smell of trucks a diesel a bit. Definitely a blue collar\working man vibe. Waitress was friendly and quick. Recommended the chili verde or any of the omellettes, but I got my fav Chicken Fried Steak and eggs with a scone. The food was hot, cooked well and although the chicken fried steak wasn't the best I have had, the portions were huge! The scone looks delicious and will be eaten later. Waitress was friendly and helpful. Will come again.

Carla C.

Yelp
Definitely a hidden gem! Great mugs of fresh brewed coffee, not the brown water you get at many chain restaurants. Talk about variety in a breakfast menu, it was difficult deciding which entree to select. Whatever you order make sure it includes, or add on one of their scones with honey butter, you will not be disappointed. I am looking forward to my next visit, it can't be soon enough.
google avatar

Carrie C.

Yelp
Delicious food. Best scone ever. I usually barely use the butter but I actually ran out of the honey butter on the scone because it was so good. Corned beef hash and hashbrowns were crispy. We had to wait 25 minutes in the car for the table on a Sunday late morning, but definitely worth the wait. Excellent service and constantly refilled and topped off our coffee.
