"Yangshuo, a southern Chinese county loved for its dramatic mountain landscape and fishing villages, is home to a former sugar mill that’s been transformed into the trendy Sugar House hotel. This resort is decorated with both traditional and modern Chinese artworks and furniture."

A lovely resort in Yangshuo. The staff was incredibly friendly and made our stay enjoyable. The architecture and landscaping is beautiful. At night the entire place is romantically lit. Overall this place is a little on the pricier side. The bar is gorgeous and makes excellent drinks. The restaurant is solid. Would recommend for a romantic getaway!

A painful price point, but with a steep reward. The Alila Hotel is an old sugar-refinery turned hotel that feels like the height of luxury. When we arrived we received a tour of the grounds (you may have to ask for one), where they explained how several parts of the factory were maintained and integrated into the relatively new hotel. Beautiful architecture by talented artists. A light show at night lights up the hotel and karst mountains nearby. The bar holds talented bartenders and the best cocktails I’ve had in Asia. Spend some time in the library or spa for that extra feeling of grandeur. The breakfast in the morning was both impressive and expansive. Highly recommended.

5 star for the gorgeous restoration and the settings. 3 star for the soft product and atmosphere. Our first drink arrived 30 mins after our second order because the bar ran out of shot glasses. Mosquitoes everywhere in the pool area. Rooms look well-designed. 5 star prices but a noisy hostel atmosphere with the moneyed hordes. You are required to purchase 100rmb F&B vouchers per person upon entry for the Insta-envy shots. Avoid over China national holidays.

The physical hotel is beautiful and absolutely worthy of the praise mentioned by previous reviewers. However, there are some things that potential guests should know before they book this formerly “luxury” hotel. The hotel is located right off of a main road. While you cannot see the road, you can hear industrial traffic and truck horns 24 hours/day. The hotel changed management in June 2020. It is no longer the Alila by Hyatt, but now a local brand called “Aurua.” The slogan on staff T-Shirts is “I Love Party.” Service has taken a serious hit. Despite a “no drones ” policy, there were 3 instances during our 3-day stay where other customers flew a drone across our balcony and filmed into our hotel room. Creepy, pervy, and the management replied by asking housekeeping to close our curtains and gift us some dried fruit. Again, beautiful spot, but align your expectations accordingly.

An Abandoned Mill with a Vibrant Heart! Set in the midst of a stunning scenic landscape, the hotel is a former working Sugar Mill mill-turned-resort that perfectly blends in a uber chic retro design into the site’s Industrial Heritage. With dramatic karst mountains, rolling green hills and gushing rivers all on the doorstep - you couldn't ask for more ingredients from mother nature to make this place a heaven on earth! Also, the original look has been preserved as much as possible, right down to propaganda slogans written during President Mao’s era, which have been kept on the multihued brick walls and become a kind of historical graffiti telling the story of the building’s past. Every nook and corner of this hotel with an industrial minimalist look is Instagram-ready! #ILoveChina #ZhongguoJiaYou #YangshuoOnMyMind LOCATION: Not too far from the city, but still in a nice secluded part hugged and surrounded by spectacular Karst Mountains and magical greenery DINE + DRINK: Excellent Iconic Bar in a old part of the heritage site where you get to sip on fine cocktails and house distilled rum sitting next to ruins of the old building ROOM: I stayed in 423, so this review is based on that; VIEW: Wonderful view of the Karst mountain and a lovely balcony attached to the room!; SIZE: Very spacious room; AIR-CON: Perfectly functioning cooler that helped in setting the perfect room temperature; BED: Comfortable bed that played the expected part to put me to sleep; BATHROOM: Stand in shower; TOILETRIES: Awesome SPA based Cosmetics that was simply magical! FACILITIES: LImited but reasonably good Gym, fitted with Cardio machines and free weights from SERVICE: Friendly staff that took care of all my needs with a smile and made us feel pampered and well taken care of. Special Shout out to HOW WIRED YOU WILL BE: Free high speed Wi-Fi that works well all over the property. Big Plasma TV screen dishing out dozens of channels spanning sports, news, music, movies and a wide variety of entertainment in multiple languages

The place was genuinely better that i had expected, even though my stay was quite affected by the weather, the staff were all very kind and positive. The food provided there is quite decent to be honest, despite breakfast's food sometimes a bit cold.

Stopped by Alila Yangshuo for a drink after staying in Alila Ubud. Impressive architecture but the bar was a disappointment. Their drinks menu seems to be designed for Chinese clients. I asked for a glass of white wine and (out of the 3 options on the menu) they ran out of 2. And the only one available was Riesling (sweet). And there was no prosecco or champagne on the menu... in a luxury hotel.. wierd.

Well deserved the five stars. It used to be a sugar factory then turned into Alila. They still keeps lots of remainings which is really cool. The service is excellent - best i have ever had in China.
