A brilliant cafe located in the heart of the trendy Smith St. The whole atmosphere is great with an art style deco creating a unique feel. Food is yummy and beautifully presented with the service team friendly and keeping on their feet! It’s a true local experience and worth the visit. Price wise it pretty normal for the brunch scene! Enjoy

This is my second visit- tried their mushroom risotto and pearl barely salad last time. Just LOVED their salad, so unique so fresh. Had a “magic salad” today that the server recommended me, she’s so friendly even during busy hours.

Absolutely loved our lunch here The focaccia was incredible, the salad selection was fresh and flavourful (highly recommend the roasted cauliflower), and the rear courtyard was such a hidden gem – bright, cosy, and full of charm. Great spot for a relaxed meal with friends!

Such a beautiful lunch at Alimentari Collingwood! 💛 The mushroom risotto was creamy, rich, and packed with earthy flavour – total comfort food done right. The pork belly was melt-in-your-mouth tender, sitting on a dreamy mash with the perfect hit of sweetness from the jus. And that slaw on top? Crunchy, herby magic. Loved the warm, rustic vibe of the place too – exposed brick, friendly service, and that classic Alimentari charm. Perfect little spot for a cosy meal that feels a bit fancy but super comforting. Will definitely be coming back!

My first visit to Alimentari Smith Street—and definitely not my last! I ordered the salmon dish from their specials list, and it was cooked to perfection—flaky, tender, and bursting with flavour. Absolutely delicious. The house made focaccia was outstanding, as were the olives with lemon, wild fennel, and bay leaf. Every bite felt like a celebration of fresh, high-quality ingredients and classic Italian flavours. The table service was excellent—friendly, attentive, and genuinely welcoming. I especially loved the courtyard space, which is both sunny and peaceful. The entire venue has been designed with such intention and warmth—it's clear that every detail has been carefully considered. A truly delightful experience with fantastic Italian food offerings in a beautiful setting. Highly recommended!

They (and also we) ATE and left no crumbs! We are from Perth, and have been to this establishment 3 seperate times in 2 trips. The food has not disappointed. The staff and ambience of the restaurant was also cosy and lovely. Highly recommend the porchetta, lamb cutlets, arancini and kale salad if you’re going for lunch but there are many fantastic options! For breakfast we were just meant to duck in and have a quick bite from the cabinet however, the Turkish eggs looked so good so we decided to order that (pictured). The sausage tasted beautiful and smokey and went really well with the labneh, eggs and toast (pictured). We couldn’t recommend Alimentari more.

Food was average Tuna tartare 7/10 Broccoli salad 7/10 Squid ink pasta 7.5/10 Service was mid. Took a good 5 mins for anyone to acknowledge me at the door and bring me in, despite many of the restaurant staff walking back and forth past me. We asked for a drinks menu and it didn’t come out for a very long time and some of our food was missing. The only thing I liked about this restaurant was the aesthetics.

It was an amazing breakfast! Benedict was really tasty, and great hash browns. The coffee was nice as well. I will come back

Yelp
Such a pretty restaurant! If possible, sit in the back patio - beautifully decorated with artsy decor and white tablecloth-covered tables. Came too late on a Sunday afternoon to try the brunch food but the deli selection is not bad as everything we tried was pleasant. Will be back for a more proper meal. Ideal for hangouts with friends or a casual datebin the Fitzroy area!

Yelp
I've always been a fan of Parisian housewife approach: 1. Visit lovely food store 2. Buy ready made meals 3. Take home 4. Spend afternoon on couch reading 5. Heat up the meal 6. Serve 7. Pretend you spent all afternoon cooking Smith Street Alimentari is going to make this a whole lot easier, with ready made roast dinners, salads galore and fresh pasta and sauces. Just don't tell anyone my secret okay?

Yelp
Smith Street stalwart Alimentari and neighbours Gorski and Jones have knocked down their adjoining wall and become one to bring a fusion of Italian and Mediterranean food goodness. Divided into two halves, a hanging blackboard poses the question of eat in or takeaway. If takeaway is your desire then nothing has changed with the old Alimentari's selection of deli-cross-foodstore delights still available. However, for the immediately hungry a turn to the left takes you to a full table service cafe with bar and courtyard. A large tapestry along the wall, exposed brickwork, open kitchen and fixtures all add to the European feel. The food menu is equally immersive with a range of breakfast, lunch and paninis options that each have their own creative twists on common dishes. From sweet potato latkes with baba ghannooj and poached eggs to slow cooked baharat-rubbed lamb shoulder with skordalia, there is a dish to excite everyone. I ordered the pan fried Tasmanian salmon with agrodolce, capers, rocket, confit cherry tomatoes and walnut purée on this visit. This is a stunning dish with the flavours of the juicy salmon with a crispy skin, sweet melt-in-your-mouth tomatoes and the mix of agrodolce (traditional Italian sweet and sour sauce) and the rich walnut purée all combining in an intriguing but tasty explosion. Quality coffee from Veneziano, with a blend and single origin espresso and filter options available, complete this Smith Street gem. For the Alimentari lovers who can't be bothered cooking or anyone who wants to sample some European-inspired delights, the new and transformed Smith Street Alimentari is a must visit.

Yelp
Finally getting around to reviewing the restaurants I dined at while living in Melbourne, and Alimentari has been a long time coming. Dined here just about eight or so times, and the food was always phenomenal. Honestly, I had the Roasted Mushrooms (add bacon and hash browns) the first time I visited Alimentari and I rarely stray from that dish. So delicious! I've also tried the meatball wrap and purchased the deli board on a few occasions - neither disappointed. Coffee was great, and the restaurant itself was beautiful. I was able to get a seat out back on most occasions, which was great because the flowers around the back patio are gorgeous. If you're in a rush, order from the deli counter.

Yelp
I'm so happy I read the reviews and decided to give this place a try. Started with a breakfast of poached eggs, bacon and relish. Was a good breakfast but nothing special, coffee was lovely. The best part was checking out the produce and salads. I could have left with everything but restrained myself to a Potato Salad and Chicken and Pistachio Terrine to takeaway. I have just finished eating them and they really were brilliant, so tasty, fresh and made with quality ingredients. There is so much to choose from and I know for sure I will be eating here for years to come. The breakfast was a 3-4, but the produce was worth a 10, so it's an easy 5 star for me.

Yelp
Smith Street Alimentari focus on all day breakfast and lunch. This Italian inspired part deli/food-store and eatery make a tremendous coffee and memorable food. The breakfast menu is extensive and will cater for every appetite. If you'd rather a glass of wine and lunch don't pass on the delectable slow-cooked baharat rubbed lamb shoulder on potato skordalia. It's so moreish you will be back again.

Yelp
Always good. Meatball wrap blows your universe. Been going to Alimentari in Fitzroy for years, and the smith street opening doesn't disappoint. Great fitout out the back court yard where you can nestle your long black and overly intellectualise life.

Yelp
Lunch on Monday sit down. Food: Meatball wrap. Grilled wrap great texture, solid meatball, spinach, cheesey, gooey - DELICIOUS! Italian Cole slaw - solid...not great. Broccoli salad - very good. Service: SUCKS. 15 minutes to get a can of beer and chilled glass? WTF. Unbelievably PRETENTIOUS and wait staff was not genuine in their 'customer service'. Another case of smoke and mirrors...beautiful atmosphere, decent food, weak service. With so many other good choices around - Won't be back. Would not recommend.

Yelp
This is not only one of the most beautiful places to eat the flavors dance in your mouth. I had breakfast and lunch once on the back patio and lunch in the restaurant and was consistently in awe of the decor and the food.... The food raises the bar to a new level the textures, flavors and feast for the eyes and mouth make you thank god you are alive.nI ate so slow and almost cried out loud with joy...cheers to doing it right!!!!!

Yelp
Great breakfast, good atmosphere, and friendly staff. They were also very accommodating with substituting different ingredients.

Yelp
Very disappointed to cross town with a friend especially to eat here. Their opening hours say they are open until 6pm. Arrived at 4:30pm and they were no longer serving food and had packed up their takeaway cabinets. Staff had attitude about even serving coffee! Unprofessional at best.

Yelp
Probably the worst service i have had in my whole life. Food was decent. Coffee could be better. But, oh man, my waiter was the epitome of the word rude

Yelp
A great brunch spot, particularly the gorgeous outdoor space on a sunny day. Really interesting menu with good range. Really enjoyed the smoked trout on potato rosti with a poached egg and preserved lemon hollandaise.

Yelp
Totally underrated. These guys do an amazing brunch and they do great proper lunch too, both takeaway and 'dine' in. Love the speed of service too, very impressive for an eatery at that price point.

Yelp
As a local, I have dined here frequently when it was two separate establishments, previously Gorski & Jones, and Smith Street Alimentari. The menu offerings are seasonal, delicious and lovingly prepared by dedicated chefs in an open kitchen. The decor is welcoming, with noise levels excessive at times. Then in early 2015, both businesses amalgamated by knocking a large opening between them. The food quality remained, but the venue popularity skyrocketed, and the standard of service nosedived. Haughty, snippy wait staff (one barista spitefully pitched my incorrectly made take-out coffee across the bar and snarled at me) and a near impossible task to find a table mean I will take my business elsewhere.

Yelp
Everything here is always made fresh and with the best ingredients. I like to come here for a quick lunch (the salami panini is my favourite) and then get one of their ready-made meals to have for dinner later (beef or pork and fennel lasagna is another favourite). Every street should have an Alimentari.
