This tour is a spiritual experience! The tour has been reformatted to include two parts. The first part starts at Louis Armstrong Park and is a history of the New Orleans, Congo Square, jazz music, and all of the people and cultures that make the area special. Milton aka Bo, gives this part of the tour. He is a lifelong New Orleans resident and is part of the second line culture. Bo is funny, knowledgeable, and very welcoming. The second part of the tour is a natural transition from learning about the history of jazz, to seeing a live jazz performance at the historic Dew Drop Inn Lounge. Mikhala Iversen, the tour company owner, is also an accomplished jazz singer. She performed a phenomenal tribute to Billie Holiday. Mikhala's voice, connection with the crowd, stage presence, and chemistry with the band are magical. She seamlessly weaves interesting and relevant stories and tidbits of history that bring the performance alive. The Dewdrop Inn Lounge is an historical venue. It was the top lounge for jazz in New Orleans in the 1950's and 60's. It has been renovated and is back better than ever. There is a buffet included with the show and a mini museum that explores the location's history. I highly recommend this tour. You will not be disappointed!

My husband and I have participated and visited many Black History tours and museums and I have to say the Black Heritage & Jazz Tour is by far one of the most profound tours we have been on. Mikhala’s passion, knowledge and respect for our ancestors and the culture and history of New Orleans is remarkable as well as inspirational. You will be moved emotionally and spiritually by singing songs and listening to the true raw narrative of our history. She will also charge you to stand in the truth and share it with your children, family and friends in order to preserve our history. Thank you again for enlightening us on this tour. This was THE BEST tour I've been on in New Orleans. Hell, the best tour I've ever been on ANYWHERE! Ms. Mikhala was so very knowledgeable & spiritually connected. I wish I could have walked and talked with her all day! I learned so much which has catulpulted my thirst for further education on our history.

Mikhala was an amazing tour guide—she was knowledgeable, passionate, and provided opportunities for us to ask questions and reflect on the information she was sharing. We left the tour feeling more connected to New Orleans. We appreciated how Mikhala unapologetically shared the history of New Orleans and provided us with resources to continue our learning on our own.

I booked this tour for a group of friends during our first trip to New Orleans and was completely blown away with the entire experience. We went in February and still can’t stop talking about it. The insight and connection we made with Mikhala made a bigger impact on our lives that goes deeper than sightseeing or a vacation. She also made it a point to introduce us to local businesses and tailored the tour to what we were most interested in knowing about. If you want to hear the real history of New Orleans, focusing on the people that built the city, and the indigineous that originally inhabited this collective grounds take this tour! we took the Black Heritage and Jazz tour. Ms. Mikhala is a wealth of knowledge and presents it in a very compelling and vivid way that inspires, brings gravity to the atrocities commited to, and elevates the resilience and culture of African American people. We were moved by the history in this tour from music, architechture, land pollitics, to migration, Ms. Mikhala covers it. She could probably share for hours in depth on the many subjects covered. I loved hearing about the spiritual, musical, and artistic background of New Orleans. She is so warm, I want to be her friend and spend more time touring NO with her. We walked about Armstrong park, Congo Square, Treme neighborhoods, visited the Cupcake fairies, and witnessed a drum circle

We joined Mikhala for an incredible tour of Black and jazz history in New Orleans and beyond, and could not recommend it more. She connected so many dots for us in terms of better understanding local, American and world history, and the lasting implications they have on our society today. We’re still thinking about the tour days later, and surely will for many years to come. A really thoughtful, unique and deeply human/personal experience. Thank you so much!
