Mikhala has an authenticity and deep knowledge of the cultural history in New Orleans that far exceeds any other tour operator I've come across or witnessed. Rooted in truth instead of white-washed spiels catering to the average, unsuspecting tourist passing through New Orleans, Mikhala is more than gifted at her craft. Adding to the experience was her personal connection within the longstanding black community of New Orleans and her guided walk reaching to Bayou Street which welcomed us tourists in her group with arms wide open. Also listen to her recommendations for food on Bayou St...some of the best Caribbean Jerk I've ever had in my life by far.

Mikhala is excellent and the tour is a raw reality check of the history of New Orleans. Thanks to her tour, I’ve been reading up on NOLA’s history and learning so much! If there is one tour you do in NOLA, make it this one! Absolutely brilliant and the REAL history of NOLA!

Mikhala offers a unique and powerful tour of a historical and powerful city. In the middle of bustling crowds of tours, she took us on a spiritual and intimate tour starting near Congo square where jazz was born. She somehow turns our group into a congregation exploring and naming the deep roots of white supremacy and patriarchy. She taught me the symbol of the sankofa bird which teaches us to look back to our past/our tail to be able to move forward and for that I am forever grateful. She also took us to amazing black owned business where I bought very special books. Once the tour ended it felt like the secret new orleans we had tapped into together had dissipated and I was back in the midst of the annoying tourist crowds. Highly recommended unique experience!

THE BEST TOUR EVER!!!! I was born in New Orleans and moved away when I was still a child but have visited quite often to visit my family that still lives there AND I HAVE NEVER KNOWN MANY OF THE THINGS THAT WERE SHARED ON THE TOUR! Mikhala was not only a tour guide but a complete vibe. The singing, the beauty, the knowledge, the connection, the professionalism, the organization of it all was simply more than we expected. We left feeling inspired, informed, and more connected to the city. Would definitely recommend this tour again and again!

It's hard to articulate how much this tour meant to me, even after thinking all weekend about what I'd say in this review. Mikhala is such an empathetic, magnetic person with such a deep connection to this land and its people, music, history and culture. As a white (take the tour to learn from Mikhala about reframing your "whiteness") person visiting New Orleans for the first time, it was deeply affecting to hear Mikhala tell the story of New Orleans as it was experienced by the enslaved African people upon whose labor, suffering, activism and art this city was built. I was deeply moved by the stories told, the songs sung, and the emphasis Mikhala places on boundary-setting, -holding, -respecting as integral to our collective action and healing. I'm looking forward to reading Mikhala's writing, joining her Patreon and continuing to learn from her truth-teaching. Thank you to Mikhala and her beautiful community!

My husband and I have participated and visited many Black History tours and museums and I have to say the Black Heritage & Jazz Tour is by far one of the most profound tours we have been on. Mikhala’s passion, knowledge and respect for our ancestors and the culture and history of New Orleans is remarkable as well as inspirational. You will be moved emotionally and spiritually by singing songs and listening to the true raw narrative of our history. She will also charge you to stand in the truth and share it with your children, family and friends in order to preserve our history. Thank you again for enlightening us on this tour. This was THE BEST tour I've been on in New Orleans. Hell, the best tour I've ever been on ANYWHERE! Ms. Mikhala was so very knowledgeable & spiritually connected. I wish I could have walked and talked with her all day! I learned so much which has catulpulted my thirst for further education on our history.

My husband Tom and I have travelled many places and taken many tours. Mikaela’s Black History and Jazz Heritage tour was hands down the best tour we’ve ever taken. It was our favorite NOLA experience. Mikaela is a gifted teacher, we learned so much and were so filled by her presence. Thank you for your spirit, wisdom, and joy Mikaela.

Yelp
Incredible. We feel so lucky to have been introduced to historian Malik Bartholomew. He was an endless well of knowledge about New Orleans. We did the Treme tour. He made the great number of facts and stories relatable and digestible. His sense of humor and passion for this history is infectious and made the time breeze by. We could've spent the entire day with him. We tried! He seamlessly tied complex webs of historical information together with the modern day situation on Treme and New Orleans. I look forward to future visits and more tours with Know NOLA.

Yelp
Malik is a gem. He guided me in my exploration of Tremé and is beyond knowledgeable, proud, and passionate about NOLA history. He's known and well-respected in the community which was clear during our walk. Thank you for the many history lessons and recommendations.

Yelp
I have done a couple of tours with Malik and continue to recommend my friends, families and guests to him. As a local, you know how to sniff out the imposters and thank goodness, he isn't one of them! He has a wealth of knowledge and is a New Orleanian so you get unfiltered history. We have done the Treme tour and the African History French Quarter Tour. Can't wait to explore more.

Yelp
I've been to New Orleans 20 times (no exaggeration) and thought I knew the history of the city pretty well. With Malik, I learned something new about NOLA every single minute of the tour. Malik walked us through the growth of New Orleans from its original native population through its French and Spanish history to Katrina to today, including fun trivia and personal anecdotes every step of the way. Even when it started thunder storming, Malik instantly knew how to change our walking path so we stayed covered and dry until the end. Can't recommend enough, TAKE THIS TOUR!

Yelp
Our group did the StudioBe Tour. Malik is an amazing down to earth guide. He has a personal connection to the artwork that really drives the stories and histories behind each work home. We were lucky enough to meet the artist which was delightful! I fully recommend Know NOLA! I'm looking forward to booking him again for another walking tour the next time I'm in NOLA!
