This is my 3rd time doing this tour with Ms. Mikhala… I absolutely love her tour. I learn something new every time, as well as recall a past memory from a previous tour. The history, enthusiasm, excitement, singing, reflections etc… I could never get enough of it. This is a must attend tour every visit to New Orleans for me.

As a first timer to NOLA all the way from Canada, it was a very high priority for me to experience a TRUE, authentic and inspiring tour that was specifically black owned. My friend and I wanted to learn as much as possible about this gem of a city. Mikhala is a guide/SHE-eo who knows her stuff. She values the romanticism of this city while emphasizing the atrocities that the city bears. While teaching the importance of an often dark history, she dissects (in detail) how the darkness evolves and continues to evolve into light. Whether it be through music, song or community! Mikhala is an international recording artist so who better to teach you about the birthplace of jazz? She’s a free thinker, a freedom fighter, a freedom teacher and a lover of life. And she’s there to inspire you to be the same. Doesn’t matter what you pick; you will leave enlightened in every realm possible. Can’t wait to go back. 20 stars ⭐️ if I could!

Mikhala was fabulous as a walking, singing guide, sharing in-depth, honest, alive history that you won’t find on your average tour. Can’t recommend her highly enough. If there was a 6-star option, we would have chosen it! Her commitment to the community was evident in the dignity she shared with everyone we met. So grateful for her book and restaurant recommendations! She has inspired us to keep learning even after the tour ended.

This tour is a spiritual experience! The tour has been reformatted to include two parts. The first part starts at Louis Armstrong Park and is a history of the New Orleans, Congo Square, jazz music, and all of the people and cultures that make the area special. Milton aka Bo, gives this part of the tour. He is a lifelong New Orleans resident and is part of the second line culture. Bo is funny, knowledgeable, and very welcoming. The second part of the tour is a natural transition from learning about the history of jazz, to seeing a live jazz performance at the historic Dew Drop Inn Lounge. Mikhala Iversen, the tour company owner, is also an accomplished jazz singer. She performed a phenomenal tribute to Billie Holiday. Mikhala's voice, connection with the crowd, stage presence, and chemistry with the band are magical. She seamlessly weaves interesting and relevant stories and tidbits of history that bring the performance alive. The Dewdrop Inn Lounge is an historical venue. It was the top lounge for jazz in New Orleans in the 1950's and 60's. It has been renovated and is back better than ever. There is a buffet included with the show and a mini museum that explores the location's history. I highly recommend this tour. You will not be disappointed!

Our tour guide Mikhala was phenomenal and is such a beautiful jazz singer! We loved visiting the black owned coffee shop at the end of the tour as well! Definitely check out this tour if you’re in NOLA!

Mikhala offers a unique and powerful tour of a historical and powerful city. In the middle of bustling crowds of tours, she took us on a spiritual and intimate tour starting near Congo square where jazz was born. She somehow turns our group into a congregation exploring and naming the deep roots of white supremacy and patriarchy. She taught me the symbol of the sankofa bird which teaches us to look back to our past/our tail to be able to move forward and for that I am forever grateful. She also took us to amazing black owned business where I bought very special books. Once the tour ended it felt like the secret new orleans we had tapped into together had dissipated and I was back in the midst of the annoying tourist crowds. Highly recommended unique experience!

Incredible. We feel so lucky to have been introduced to historian Malik Bartholomew. He was an endless well of knowledge about New Orleans. We did the Treme tour. He made the great number of facts and stories relatable and digestible. His sense of humor and passion for this history is infectious and made the time breeze by. We could've spent the entire day with him. We tried! He seamlessly tied complex webs of historical information together with the modern day situation on Treme and New Orleans. I look forward to future visits and more tours with Know NOLA.

Malik is a gem. He guided me in my exploration of Tremé and is beyond knowledgeable, proud, and passionate about NOLA history. He's known and well-respected in the community which was clear during our walk. Thank you for the many history lessons and recommendations.

I have done a couple of tours with Malik and continue to recommend my friends, families and guests to him. As a local, you know how to sniff out the imposters and thank goodness, he isn't one of them! He has a wealth of knowledge and is a New Orleanian so you get unfiltered history. We have done the Treme tour and the African History French Quarter Tour. Can't wait to explore more.

I've been to New Orleans 20 times (no exaggeration) and thought I knew the history of the city pretty well. With Malik, I learned something new about NOLA every single minute of the tour. Malik walked us through the growth of New Orleans from its original native population through its French and Spanish history to Katrina to today, including fun trivia and personal anecdotes every step of the way. Even when it started thunder storming, Malik instantly knew how to change our walking path so we stayed covered and dry until the end. Can't recommend enough, TAKE THIS TOUR!

Our group did the StudioBe Tour. Malik is an amazing down to earth guide. He has a personal connection to the artwork that really drives the stories and histories behind each work home. We were lucky enough to meet the artist which was delightful! I fully recommend Know NOLA! I'm looking forward to booking him again for another walking tour the next time I'm in NOLA!
