Had heard so much about their fish fries, was eager to try it out. Noticed walleye was on the menu, which is always good, so ordered it.
Looked great, a huge piece of fish. When I bit into it, by the taste I was sure the breading had been burnt. Turned on my phone light (it was dark in there), but it looked ok. But still had a burnt taste, and the breading was brittle. Upon cutting the breading shattered rather than holding together. The fish was not as flakey as expected, and lacked that subtle walleye flavor. Because the hard breading broke into pieces, I had to use the side of my fork to scrape together the fish meat and the breading in order to eat it. A spoon might have worked better.
This was a huge disappointment. Don't know if it was overcooked or something was up with the fryer or the oil or the batter, but this piece of fish should have been discarded, and never sent out of the kitchen. DId not comment at the time because didn't want my companion to have to wait for a replacement.
Don't know if the fries were homemade, but were indistinguishable from frozen. No paper menu, you had to have a phone to scan a piece of barcoded paper. There was a table set up right by the main door, the people eating there had to leave their coats on their entire meal, as every time the door opened a gust swept over them; should have been say a leftover plexiglass shield or something to block the cold. They charge more if you use a credit card, but I did not see that disclosed beforehand anywhere on the menu or website, so maybe I missed it, but this should never come as a surprise.
Don't know, maybe it was just a bad night, based on all the good reviews. But with expectations set so high, the experience was very disappointing, and I won't take another chance.
