Amazing delicious pizza! Our Colosseum tour guide recommended this place for a non-touristy spot. The Roma style pizza was delicious with a crispy, thin crust from a wood fire baked oven. The server Francesco was excellent also. We highly recommend anyone around this area make this place a must visit for their trip! Also the suppli (supli) was delicious!

Google
I highly recommend this amazing family-run business if you're in the area, close to the Colosseum, Trajan's Column, the Monument to Vittorio Emanuele, etc. I visited with my partner after our morning tour of the Colosseum, following a YouTuber's suggestion. We arrived a couple of minutes before opening time and were the first two to be seated. But as soon as we sat down, I noticed the restaurant quickly filled up with other guests. The young signore who served us was incredibly friendly, always smiling, and very fluent in English. Honestly, in this area full of major tourist attractions, many trattorias and ristorantes tend to take advantage of tourists like us without hesitation. But this place is a hidden gem, standing out for its amazing food quality, friendly service, and honest pricing. I truly don’t think I can over-praise how good it is. I encourage everyone to come and try it out!

Google
First of all we barely noticed this restaurant in a small street filled with many much more extravagant restaurants, but so glad we didn’t miss it because this place is a gem! The service was great, friendly and fast servers. The food was even better, the reviews really don’t lie about the tiramisu, or anything else. Definitely recommend!

Google
We had great pizza here, it was very close to the end of our Colosseum tour, but not touristy. We really enjoyed our pizza. You turn down a short alley.

Google
If you are near the Colosseum, it is a must visit. We can say that it became our favorite place in Rome. We loved the artichokes and zucchini flower, two flavors you should definitely try. We also ordered a margarita pizza with two beers and it was a filling meal for two people. The prices are really much more affordable and delicious than other restaurants in the center 🍕🍻

Google
A great place for pizza lovers. Excellent service and delicious food. We were served by a friendly waiter who took our order. It didn’t take long before everything was on the table. The pizza tasted amazing, and the tiramisu for dessert was heavenly. This place is highly recommended for anyone who loves pizza.

Google
We stopped here after our colosseum tour not expecting too much from such a tourist-y area and were sooo pleasantly surprised. Antipasti, pizza and desserts were excellent and very reasonably priced. We sat outside which was a lovely atmosphere too. Would definitely come back!

Google
Great family-run, hidden gem next to the colosseum. You’d think that touristy areas will have overpriced and mediocre food but this is the exception. They served great pizzas that had really thin crust with awesome outdoor seating and amazing amazing value for your food. Highly recommend

Yelp
During our tour break near the coliseum, we chose to eat at Alle Carrette for lunch. They had tables inside and outside but we chose in, since it was a warm day. We were seated immediately and offered drinks soon after. Our server's English was not very solid, so when my wife ordered a 1/2 liter of Chardonnay, she was brought champagne. I stuck with still water. We each ordered a pizza. She said they were personal sized but they were Americas version of a medium pizza. My wife got a gluten free ham and cheese and I got tagliatelle cherry tomato and prosciutto. I didn't taste hers but mine was exceptional. It was lightly sauced and loaded with cheese and meat. In the end it came to $33.00 euros plus tip.

Yelp
Loved this "hidden" spot for the tourists but obviously known to locals. Simple wooden chair and tables. No AC. There are some fans . Staff was kind to us. Service was quick , pizza did not Take long to come out of the oven. (Note : pizza is not cut..you cut it yourself). It was hot fresh and more thin and crispy. Our pizza was a Margherita with prosciutto and it is laid out across the top. This is normal in Italy. Caprese was fresh and delicious. Worth the hunt to find.

Yelp
We found this place leaving a coliseum tour. We saw this establishment tucked away down an alleyway. We figured let's try this place instead of those big giant patio places on the main street. The restaurant has a few tables covered with pop up tents or you can sit inside. We opted for outside. Beer and wine menu and food menus brought out. I had a Peroni chill lemon. Think a more lemony squirt with liquor in it. That was a perfect drink for a hot July afternoon. Only 1 server for the patio but he was on it. We started with suppli, giant fried rice balls with a teeny tiny amount of cheese. I thought the dish needed salt it was just kind of dry and underwhelming. I had the lasagna with meat sauce. It came out hot The pasta was impressive, paper thin sheets that still had a little chew in them. The portion was massive. My daughter had the margarita pizza with sausage. She didn't care for the dish. The sausage tasted and had the texture of diced up salami, the crust was crispy in the bottom but the top was still kind of doughy. No fresh bail. We also thought the crust was overly salty. Great service, cute patio meh food

Yelp
Reasonable prices, great taste, lots of vegetarian options and flexibility! The pizzas are ultra thin almost like a chip, a bit overladen with cheese and the sauce is just alright. The vegetarian lasagna is heavy on the cheese as well, and is mushroom based (no tomato sauce). The egg and bean salad was a fresh and healthy choice.

Yelp
This was our first Italian meal in Italy (we had dinner our first night at an Indian restaurant). We had spent our first full morning in Rome touring the Colosseum and the Forum. We wrapped up at or just after noon (on a Monday). We checked some nearby places and set out on foot to look for lunch. This place was located about 2 blocks from the exit from the Forum (the one on Via dei Fori Imperiali). The entrance was actually via a small side street. We were offered the option of sitting inside our outside. It was a relatively nice day, so we opted for outside. Their 'patio' was more like a dead-end section of a small alley from which you could see a larger street. This is not a complaint; it was clean and quiet, but the tables were set on the pavement and you were bounded by walls on 3 sides. The tables had umbrellas, but I think the area was mostly in shadow at that hour anyway. The temperature was fine. As a slight aside, a lot of the restaurants we ate at on our trip (which featured Italian food) looked somewhat the same inside. Not American franchise sameness, but more similar than I'd expect for unrelated businesses. If you opted to dine outside, there seemed to be a bit more variety in your surroundings, which was nice. Our server was busy with multiple tables, but managed to stop by before long. I think we all opted for different varieties of pizza. We got 'still water' in a bottle, as there is no free water at restaurants here. When our pizzas arrived, I was initially skeptical tht we could each eat one - they appeared larger than what I'd term a 'personal pizza'. However, there was another difference - the pizza crust was fairly thin. Hence, you were not eating that much bread versus what was expected. We actually were able to finish the pies and we didn't feel bloated. A thin pizza like this is actually a decent lunch portion. I got a 3-ingredient variant, but the restaurant was partial to arugula so there was a LOT of it. I liked it, though I did pick off a bit of arugula. I don't recall what the other 2 people ordered, but everyone thought the food was good. At one point, a street musician came up and was playing at the fringe of the dining area. No one was making requests but after he finished, he circulated to most tables and wanted the audience to contribute. I thought it was a bit more aggressive than the busking I was used to. He skipped our table and a couple others, luckily. This was the only time I observed this sort of thing. We dined inside mostly. If you are at the Forum or in the general area, this place is a good meal option.

Yelp
Good tasty thin pizza. Unbelievable, too, how quickly the pizza gets to your table, too. Off the beaten path, we were surrounded by more locals than American tourists. And their English is more proficient than our Italian. Very friendly service, we were treated as if we were loyal, local customers.

Yelp
We had some lovely vino with lunch. It was on the warmer side, so we went with a white wine. Had two Suppli which was new for us. It is similar to arancini, but is a Roman specialty made with tomato and mozzarella in addition to other "surprises". Can't go wrong with a deep fried rice ball to start. Then had a pizza perfectly made in a wood fired oven. Crunchy exterior with soft pillowy crust. Just straight basil and mozzarella on a tomato sauce (just tomato). This is how pizza should be made and set the bar high for the rest of the trip.

Yelp
Grabbed a quick, cheap lunch here after visiting the colosseum. It was BUSY, but things moved quickly. We grabbed a few glasses of prosecco, the antipasti platter, and the crazy pizza. I was expecting a variety of food on the antipasti platter, but it was all meats. Pizza was good. Service was good. No complaints!

Yelp
Food: 5/5 Service: 4.5/5 Ambiance: 4.75/5 After a visit to the colosseum and the Roman forum, we wandered into a dead end alley way and there was Alle Carrette. We first ordered a tomato bruschetta and the Alle Carrette. The tomato bruschetta was a good balance of crunchy and juicy from the tomato. For 2.50€, it wasn't too special but it was not bad. We wanted more, and ended up ordering another bruschetta prosciutto for 3€. We liked the tomato bruschetta more as it was juicy, while the prosciutto bruschetta was dry. The Alle Carrette was good. It was not cut into slices which gave a more authentic feel.

Yelp
Pizzeria alle carrette was a 2 minute walk from our vacation stay in Rome. After some pouring rain, we didn't want to go too far and came across this little neighborhood gem. Short wait for a table and we were seated. Had the lasagne and a pizza with mushrooms. Both came out steaming and were very good. The lasagne was too cheesy (if that's possible) and I would have loved a little more meat sauce, but maybe that's how it's made in Italy and not loaded with meat like it is in the US. As in all restaurants in Rome, you pay for bottled water but the nice thing here was that you can get a half liter instead of a whole bottle that is sometimes not fully consumed. You can also get half liter carafes of their house wine. Yum The pizza was paper thin, and yummy. Glad we stumbled upon pizzeria alla carrette.

Yelp
We found this place our last night in Rome. We arrived shortly before opening and were seated immediately upon opening. I got the spicy salami pizza, and my wife got a sausage and pepperoni pizza. Both were the best pizzas we had in Rome. My only issue was that we sat outside, and the restaurant actually allowed the street vendors inside to try selling their wares from table to table. This was extremely off putting and knocked this review down a star.

Yelp
Roman style pizza. Definitely one of the memorable meals of the trip. Crispy & fresh pizza. Quick service. Good vibes. Would recommend!!

Yelp
Great food. We tried 4 different pizza, all delicious. Price was very fair. It was jam packed in a Monday noon.

Yelp
Good food and prices!! Tucked away from the main streets so not so noisy. Servers were wonderful and food/drink came quickly!

Yelp
Great little Italian place hidden off the beaten path. Authentic food, and drinks had plenty of options. I had the white pizza called the Joe. The olive oil was delicious as was them prosciutto. Wife and daughter had the salmon bruschetta and split a Italian calzone. I don't like salmon, but it was very good on the bruschetta.
google avatar

Wern O.

Yelp
TLDR: many different styles of pizzas Great outdoor area in an alley. Tons I great pizza options. Usual drink options. Great place to eat.
google avatar

Yelp
A cute little restaurant hidden off the main drag, which is excellent because it stopped it from being busy when we happened past around 3:00 in the afternoon an hour or so after we arrived in Rome. Walked in, ordered two pizzas and bruschetta, and had all three items within about 10 minutes. Such speedy service! The bruschetta wasn't my favorite but I think I'm just used to American bruschetta with the tomatoes chopped up tiny so that's my problem, not theirs. I got a ham and artichoke pizza and loved every single bite of it. It was packed with flavor and had an excellent thin crust. I wanted to come back the next day but they weren't open when we tried - I'll keep trying because I loved this place so much and am dying to go back!
google avatar

Kasey L.

Yelp
Andrew Zimmerman recommenced fried zucchini flowers but sorry I am not a fans but I Loved the pizza though Giorgio V: prosciutto cotto, mozzarella and egg
google avatar

Yelp
This place has the best gluten free pizza I've ever had. Better than any spot in America, and better than any spot in Italy that I've tried.

Yelp
Our Airbnb host recommended this place to us when we arrived. We decided to give it a try on our last night. I was curious to see how the Roman pizzas compared to the Chicago pizzas! The pizzas as we were told are personal pizzas. They're not tiny, but I wouldn't consider them large either. We ordered the "crazy" pizza (8€) and the margherita pizza (6€, which our server indicated was the typical Roman styled pizza). The pizzas came out quickly after we ordered them. I have to say that the "crazy" pizza came out and the sausages were still a little pink.... The margherita pizza was fine and delicious!!! Definitely a must try if you wanted something light and traditional.

Yelp
We had an amazing experience at Alle Carrette. Excellent service, and the price on pizza and wine was the best we found in the city. it was absolutely delicious. The patio through the back of the restaurant was very charming! We loved it so much we wanted to go back for an early dinner one night but didn't realize they are closed daily from 3:30-6:45pm.

Yelp
We looked at both yelp & trip advisor for recommendations. Additionally, the lady at the hotel told us the best places open around 7 pm. This is a hidden gem. Easy to miss like most restaurants, but I recommend you search it out. We went right at 7, which I recommend the earlier the better as they were packed by 8 and turning people away. We sat in the back & the smell of the wood fire pizza oven is amazing to start. Our server (young sweet girl) saw us looking at beer choices. I wanted the full Italian experience so was looking at Italian beers. She recommended one to us. Then as we were looking at appetizers, she started to recommend from the area we were viewing. At that point, we decided to throw caution to the wind & allow her to select our whole meal. Best choice we could have made! She started us out with Arancini (Italian rice balls with cheese & marinara), fried zucchini & fried artichoke hearts in what looked like a light tempura batter. We squeezed a little lemon on them and they were delicious! My pizza was mushroom & sausages with a lite tomato base. Hubby had bacon & roasted tomatoes w/cheese. They were light, simple & probably the best pizza I have had. American pizza can't compare in my mind. Now I have to figure out how to do this when we get home. I am starting to figure that dessert is a staple here. We don't normally get dessert but it seems the thing. She brought us a sampler tray to share (tiramisu, biscotti, some chocolate pie(not sure what it was) & a custard with a berry jam. It was the perfect end to an amazing dinner. If you want the experience, just put away any pre-conceived notions & let them share their favorites. This was not only dinner but an enjoyable experience.

Yelp
This place is pretty good! Very close to the tourist sights without being a crazy tourist trap.

Yelp
Great food and atmosphere! Locals dine here. We loved this place tremendously. Laid back and delicious food! Best pizza we had in Rome. Right in the cute Monti neighborhood and near colosseum. Oh it was not expensive too!!!!

Vlad G.

Yelp
Hole in the wall type of spot! With the same price point! AMAZING! Went there after the tour of colosseum and forum by the recommendation of our Italian tour guide. If you don't know what to order try zucchini flower and grilled artichokes and try the pizzas. House wine was great!
google avatar

Maria C.

Yelp
Great place. Good food and service. The pizza was the thinnest we ever had and was very good. Wood fire oven. Good prices and good value for the money.
google avatar

Neil G.

Yelp
A really popular pizza spot in the youthful, hipster Monti neighborhood of Rome. Enjoyed some tasty authentic Roman pizza and fritti (fried food starter traditionally eaten before pizza) and a busy, casual atmosphere perfect for after long day's work or just catching up with friends. Devoured the anchovy pizza and the four seasons pizza--both were scrumptious. That said, everything met my expectations, nothing more and nothing less. Reservation is highly attainable the day of, which is rare for any good restaurant in Rome, so I'd highly recommend coming here for a reliable meal!
google avatar

Andrea T.

Yelp
Open for lunch, at least on Sundays (we stopped in around 1:00pm/ 13:00). Pizza and calzone were amazing! Wine menu is not really a menu (red = 2 house options and a chianti) but the beer selection was okay- it's a pizza place, so that's not unexpected. The temperature inside was cooled off just enough to make sure you don't break a sweat, so it was comfortable enough in July, but not an air conditioned respite. At ~ 9€ /person for food, no complaints (just a pizza or calzone, etc. no appetizer or dessert) for a lunch.
google avatar

Zachary H.

Yelp
Great pizza in Rome near the forum. The pizza is fantastic (Quattro Formagi) and so are the appetizers. We had the little fried rice balls that were so devilishly delicious that we will return just for those. The fritti all looked amazing. Then the main event came into play. The PIZZA is fantastic. Delicious crust and cheese. Add whatever and you'll like it. Mine was a white pizza with four cheeses. Wish I had sone right now!
google avatar

Misun G.

Yelp
We found this place as we were waiting for a table at another restaurant near by. We were tired and hungry after a long day of sight-seeing and we didn't want to wait another hour to eat so we explore around the block and found this place. When we walked it, we felt it was authentic as you can smell the wood burning oven and people were chatting with the pizza chief and cashier. We had a garden salad, plate of beans, crazy pizza, and fried artichoke for dinner with the house wine. So delicious. We ended the night with strawberries with whipped cream and espresso. We will return again.
google avatar

Matt M.

Yelp
Delicious thin crust pizza! This place was recommended by a friend and is a great visit for Roman style pizza. It's very close to the Colosseum so we went for lunch after a day of touring. Quick service and great food - what more could you want?

Tim B.

Yelp
Simply the best pizza we have had while in Rome. Has the classic feel of a family restaurant with wonderful staff. Don't expect any English speaking waiters. This is the only place we felt we had to visit for a second time during our 6 day visit. Prosciutto pizza, with or without mozzarella.
google avatar

Eric B.

Yelp
Always friendly. Off the beaten path. Alle Carrette is a great place to stop in for lunch or dinner. Primarily pizza but they have a good selection of anti pasta and salads for the family. The prices are great. The food is delicious and fast. The beer is wonderful and the wine is aplenty. It's close to the Colessium so if you're touring it's a nice place to stop and rest while eating some fresh Italian fare. One of our faves. We will be back multiple times. Hope to see you there!
google avatar

Dan C.

Yelp
Recommend eating here. Affordable fare and good service. There is a large dining room and even some tables outside. The food is turned out quickly. Pizzas are the specialty and the large brick oven cooks quickly Neapolitan style. There are other options on the menu of course. Service is quick and polite, staff is able to accommodate some special requests.
google avatar

Conor D.

Yelp
Smelt the wood oven the minute we walked in which always puts a smile on my face. Nice little outdoor area out the back where we enjoyed Fritti miso Romana (fried stuff like zucchini flowers and mozzarella...mmmmmm). Then a few pizza's to share - margarita, cardinale and the house Pizza with Toleggio. Are shared as good things should be and washed down with my new favourite beer.
google avatar

Amrita P.

Yelp
Greta location near colosseum and forum. We toured Rome for 3 days and loved finding this local gem. Cold beer and spectacular pizza. Tomatoes were so sweet and fresh! Superior!
google avatar

Abilene P.

Yelp
We had two basic pizza's that you can't get wrong. They were good, not life changing, but a very good authentic Italian fresh pizza. The service was not great but okay. The location is good since it's close to the colosseum but not close enough of you are starving... you pass a lot of great rated places along the way. Just so you know. Overall, I have nothing bad to say, but also nothing extraordinary either. Decent place to grab a bite.
google avatar

Matt K.

Yelp
I am definitely a fan. We came here cautiously because of the proximity to heavy tourist areas but were not disappointed. The staff was friendly and welcoming, and very attentive throughout the entire meal. My travel partner enjoyed a calzone of sorts while I tried the mushroom and sausage pizza. There was an outstanding balance of flavor with both of these meals, and all of the ingredients were fresh. I read in other reviews that some folks had burning on their order but that was not the case for us. Tried the house wine (of course) and it was great, and finished the evening out with a cappuccino and some Tiramisu. All in all it was a solid experience and a place I would recommend stopping by if you're hungry and local!
google avatar

Nicolas R.

Yelp
We love heading down narrow streets to find a great dining experience. In this case we had help from Rick Steve. This cozy restaurant pumps out kind service & delicious food. Lorenzo our server chose the Calzone: Con Funghi e Prusciutto; loved it. The kids are pizza pros & loved their Pizza Margherita. But the Pizza Bianche Vegetariana stole the show: zucchini, eggplant & peppers with light sauce without a waterlogged crust? Excellent!
google avatar

Ciara S.

Yelp
Went for dinner and got the Alle Carrette pizza and loved it! Not fancy but would come again to try out the other pizza options.

Amanda L.

Yelp
Pizza wasn't to bad. 2nd best I've had in Italy so far. I got the "crazy" pizza. It had sausage, olives, mushrooms, and peppers. I wad surprised to see all the toppings sprinkled all over the pizza. That hasn't been the case at other places, and wasn't the case with my husbands. I don't recall the name of his but it had egg, prosciutto, mushrooms, artichoke, and olives. As you can see in the photo the toppings were very poor. He enjoyed it otherwise but that was a big complaint. We also started with prosciutto and melon. Didn't taste that fresh but wasn't to bad. Service was okay but not great. We also sat outside and we were near some dumpsters. It didn't smell but it was still off putting.
google avatar

Cindy C.

Yelp
Excellent typical Italian pizza in a hidden corner close to the colosseum and forum. You'll pass a lot of restaurants before you get here. If you want a true non-tourist experience near all of the action try this spot. Since all of my relatives live in Italy I come back every year. I'm always happy to find a new hidden gem.
google avatar

Emmie J.

Yelp
Margarita pizza was very good and pretty cheap! Atmosphere is busy, but this is a great hidden gem in Rome close to the coliseum! Do not miss this on your trip to Rome.
google avatar

Josh H.

Yelp
Staff was very friendly. Food was great! Price was very reasonable. We ate here multiple times during our stay. At first we thought this type of restaurant was the norm for Rome, but kept getting disappointed after this place, so we just came back.
google avatar

Marvin R.

Yelp
After a long drive from Sorrento with a stop in Pompeii, we arrived at our hotel which was located across from Alle Carrette. My daughter wasn't feeling well, so we ordered a couple of pizzas and stayed in. We loved the crazy pizza and the margherita so much that we went back the following night, and the night after that. Great prices on everything. Service was excellent! I highly recommend this place!
google avatar

Linda H.

Yelp
Totally off the beaten path in an alley. Excellent wood fired, thin crust pizza! Good choice of beer. Accordion player for atmosphere. We were reluctant to go because of location... so glad we decided to take a chance.
google avatar

Amad D.

Yelp
My wife ordered Calzoni and I had piazza.... We both loved our food. Great taste all around. And, the service was excellent... We had a very friendly waiter - our drinks were served quickly and our dishes came fast.
google avatar

Lo N.

Yelp
Cute place in an alley. Lots of locals frequent it. Staff was nice and patient while explaining some menu items to us. Pizza dough has a great texture. Tiramisu was also quite good. 3 of us shared a salad, 2 pizzas, 3 sodas, and a Tiramisu for $33 euros.

AJ O.

Yelp
Solid lunch spot, friendly service. Pizza is very good, with classic brick oven preparation. Scamorza cheese is delicious, we had with prosciutto and mushrooms. Fried zucchini flowers very good. Fried artichoke good but not a lot of flavor. Overall a very good spot with reasonable prices
