⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ We had such a wonderful experience thanks to the incredible hotel manager, Justin E, who went above and beyond to make our stay and my birthday celebration truly special. From the moment we arrived, they were kind, attentive, and genuinely caring. The manager was so kind, accommodating, and thoughtful which made our stay unforgettable and made us feel so valued as guests. It’s rare to come across someone who takes such pride in ensuring every detail is perfect — Justin’s hospitality set the tone for a stay we’ll always remember. Highly recommend this resort, not only for its comfort and quality but for the exceptional manager and people who make it shine! We stayed in the historic cottage which was fully equipped, luxurious, modernized kitchen, with an awesome front porch we enjoyed our cofee in the morning and relaxed at the end of the day. The porch was overlooking the lawn, trees and creek. We tried and fully enjoyed fly fishing at the creek for the first time and it’s was excellent experience. Thank you Justin! We appreciate everything you did for us!

A wonderful surprise! We were traveling on I81 near Carlisle, PA and decided to look for a place to stay at the last minute. Lucky us! The staff was super nice to find a cancellation and fit us in. Room was charming, clean and big. Grounds are beautiful. We saw a handful of guests fly fishing in their trout stream. Dinner in the barn was cozy and delicious. Breakfast was yummy too. Price was far less than we’d expect. Would definitely go back.

As always we love coming to The Allenberry when we come north for a family visit. This year we were able to get to know a few of the new staff members and they were really great additions. Dominic in the Barn was the nicest kid, so easy to talk to and super personable. I can't say enough about how kind he was. Logan also was a good bartender with a fun personality. Janessa- the hostess (not sure if I am spelling correctly) also at The Barn went out of her way to help my husband find some postacards nearby. |As far as our room - we were in the Pine Lodge downstairs and it had a definite musty smell from the AC. Luckily we were able to shut if off all week and enjoy the cool air. The electric also in the room seemed spotty. The bathroom outlets were not working consistently and I was blow drying my hair next to the bed beause the outlets by the desk weren't working properly either. I did bring it to the attention of the desk when we were leaving. The pool as always was great and always plenty of towels.|We will be back next summer I am sure !!!!

I've stayed here a few times, always a great Stay. Unfortunately, this time I was put in a building that was being renovated. The room I had was very musty smelling and had multiple long hairs in the tub. I was disappointed for the first time. I would've said something, but when I check out, the person didn't ask how my stay was And at the moment, I just did not feel like getting into it. I'll be back, but hopefully that was just a one off.

I have had the honor of photographing multiple weddings here and it never ceases to impress me. As a refined and thoughtful East Coast wedding photographer, I was truly awed by Allenberry Resort’s graceful charm and natural beauty. The getting ready spaces were bright, private, and peaceful—setting the perfect tone for the day. I love photographing the bridal party on the walkways with the stone buildings behind them and capturing bride and groom's portraits with the many backdrops the property offers. Cocktail hour on the outdoor terrace feels effortlessly elegant, with views of the creek and stone buildings surrounding the property. The Carriage House reception hall is absolutely stunning and flooded with natural light, beautifully styled place settings, while being spacious enough to feel grand without losing its warmth. The overall flow of the day at Allenberry feels seamless and intentional. It’s a venue I would return to in a heartbeat!

Google
I stayed at the Pine Lodge for one night. I was very impressed with the room. Very clean. Modern decor and furnishings. Room was clean. Bathroom and shower were very clean and in good repair. Everything worked well. Quiet (although I was on the top floor). Functional ice machine and Keurig coffee machine in common area. Very nice grounds and restaurants. I will definitely stay here again.

Our third time here. It will be our last. | 1st time the advertised music wasn't here. We stayed for dinner at the bar only to find out that their 'new' system could not process our gift certificate. Oh well, no biggie. We'll come back. |2nd visit, there was some unknown confusion getting our food in the dining room. We had a reservation and the place was almost empty. Well, at least the gift certificate could be used.|3rd time we just came for music by the creek and cocktails. Two different servers were terribly confused about where we could sit. Outside. On an empty patio. We won't be back. The worst insult: because we didn't order food, we has to go inside and upstairs to a faraway bar and get out own drinks!

Google
The location is beautiful, the rooms are very nice. We had one with a balcony and tbe kitchenette can be really useful although there is no table to eat your meal. The only thing they need to have a new shower floor, it doesn't look good. The pool is really great. The pickleball court is great having the quick circles by and sitting by the creek and seeing some fishermen fishing and just, it's very nice, beautiful. The service upon checking was great. James was great coffee. They have, uh, yeah, some local blend and the iced coffee, the iced Americano was really good. So all in all great experience, so far

Yelp
**Disclaimer: We did not book a stay here and really only partook in the cafe in the front and also walked the premises.** We came on a beautiful day that showcased what the grounds at Allenberry had to offer. My bride and two kiddos strolled along the water and saw someone fly fishing. There is lots of green space and we saw string lights, which must look very nice in the evening. This is a great spot to unplug and unwind. There are a couple of pickleball courts down below. Next time we are in the area we just might book a weekend out here.

Yelp
Food is always excellent! Service last visit was a little off but the server was new and probably shouldn't have had a big table like ours.

Yelp
Something has definitely changed here--and not for the better. We've dined at this restaurant often while in town for business meetings, but this recent visit earlier this week was a huge letdown. The atmosphere as you arrive is still quite nice--there's a welcoming feel that sets the tone well. Unfortunately, that's where the positives mostly end. The restaurant now feels disjointed, and the overall vibe has become a bit cliché. The biggest disappointment was the food. We were hosting clients, and only one person at the table was satisfied with their meal. While the salads were decent, the entrees were a letdown: over-sauced, overcooked, and lacking freshness. The service was friendly, but not at all attentive. When we did have our server's attention, they were pleasant--but actually getting service was inconsistent. The food took a long time to arrive, and the presentation was sloppy. When asked how things were, my business partner gave honest feedback and was met with a polite but dismissive response. It feels like the restaurant is relying on being the only upscale option in the area, which may be leading to some complacency. Whatever the reason, I won't be in a hurry to return. Giving two stars only because of the nice ambiance and friendly demeanor of the staff--but the food earns just one star at this point.

Yelp
This is our second stay and for the second time we were not able to take advantage of the Longevity Center. So, it's just a nice hotel room without the complimentary breakfast.

Gabe W.

Yelp
I made a dinner reservation 2 days ahead of time and was still seated in the bar area. I asked the hostess why and she said that it was all that was available. About 10mins later a table for two opened up and was empty for our remaining time in the restaurant, but was never offered to us. So, in the end, I make a reservation and spend $200 on an anniversary dinner to sit in the bar area with other people yelling at a basketball game on the jumbo TV... at least the food was good.

Melissa S.

Yelp
We stopped there tonight to grab some of their amazing thinly layered/rolled cinnamon rolls which we've bought twice before. What happened to these rolls? We were given six and four were super small. They're not the same. And for $30???? Never again. I feel robbed.

Dee D.

Yelp
terrible. Had reservations at 630 arrived at 635.Was told table was ready but had no server. After 35 minutes no update from host. When I said I want to cancel just asked for our name to cancel. There was no attempt to try to have us stay like give update on when server would be available. Or offer complementary beverage while waiting. Also diners who arrived after us were seated right away. terrible management . Won't return. Think twice about patronizing this place

Yelp
I think this place is great! Food is good and atmosphere is great! Best brunch place around!

Yelp
Lovely bar and restaurant. We stopped in for a quick drink on a early Saturday night at The Barn Restaurant. They have a very nice imaginative cocktail list and lots of options for beer and wine. Good service and a really nice, but relaxing atmosphere. Looking forward to coming back for a meal.

Yelp
For being such a fancy place the breakfast burrito was not that great at all, can get better at a diner. Also, meal only come with burrito if you want a side that is extra. Burrito needed more cheese and flavor.

Bobby K.

Yelp
Just attended a 175 member event at the Allenberry Carriage House. The main room and bar were exceptional. The appetizers were well prepared, thanks to the two chefs (Rebeka and Nicole). Met each of the servers (Olivia, Ben, Aspen and Jaysaun). Was pleasantly surprised how friendly and happy they all were. They seemed to be at our table constantly asking if we needed anything. The bartenders (Amy and Ethan) kept things running smoothly at the busy bar. I intentionally asked for their names as usually we tend to not expect great or even good service at events. They exceeded our expectations!

Yelp
I could see 1/4 of the left side of the stage at Little Shop of Horrors because of a very tall and wide person sitting directly in front of me. The seats were not staggered and there was barely any slant to the floor. Unfortunate turnoff to going back.

Yelp
A friend and I went for lunch in the Allenberry Cafe. I ordered a chicken sandwich. It arrived wrapped in aluminum foil which I thought was strange since we were eating in. As soon as I opened it, I knew why. It was a slippery mess of melted cheese and soggy bread that I couldn't pick up, and I couldn't cut through the roll with a knife to eat it in pieces. The waitress said there was a new chef. So, no lunch for me, and no apologies.

Yelp
Attended the holiday show earlier this Dec, (2022). Very well done in a comfortable entertainment venue. A quality performance by talented actors and all those who made it possible (those who directed, created costumes, lighting, etc.) Good ticket value. However, at night the lighting and signs out in their premises aren't conducive to getting around (i.e. We ended up coming in wrong way on one way drive way, used exit instead of entrance, not sure where to park or where building for show was. We had to wing it and walking around in the bitter cold searching). Returned in the day light to have brunch today. (It's an at counter order type breakfast/brunch/lunch with limited menu w/Breakfast sandwiches, soup, sticky/cinnamon buns, pre-made sandwiches). That's when upon leaving this time we saw the small signs where the entrance driveway was and exit sign was (but was after we already entered the same wrong way as we did last time). The only thing that indicated we were entering wrong again was the direction of the parking spaces. In any event, it's a beautiful interior where the restaurant/hotel lobby is. A real working log filled fireplace, cozy furniture, grand piano, friendly staff, delicious breakfast sandwiches, and a nice view in back area of the grounds w/beautiful stream running through it. We also happened upon a nice art display by a local artist. Prices a little steep (surprisingly however this was aside from some desserts we bought to go that were cheap and tasty), but the setting and super staff make it well worth it. Looking forward to another show perhaps in February and hopefully dinner in their full services restaurant at some point soon. Love having this gem so close and convenient.

Yelp
Just got back from a surprise Birthday Party for my mom. They dropped the birthday cake, and then they LIED about it, and made the poor waitress lie to us. She was in tears. The food was meh...

Yelp
I made reservations a few weeks ago for Easter Sunday brunch for 6. The place opened at 11am. We were slightly early and eventually seated in the cellar. Yes. The basement. Next to the kitchen and near doors opening for others to be seated outside in a tented porch so it was cold with a stream of foot traffic passing our table. I wish I'd spoken up and asked for a table upstairs in one of the other dining rooms or even a table set for 6 in the cellar that wasn't near the kitchen or the foot traffic and cold draft from the open door. The food was not hot and was average. I was tempted by the description of the French toast on thick sourdough bread but it was like normal sliced bread. The sticky bun was the best thing there. It was served warm and was totally delicious. I will try this place again in the future and hope for a better experience. The food sounds much better than the actual product. Everything was ok but I was expecting it to be much better.

Yelp
The Barn Restaurant was delicious. Greg is the best. He does everything for the guests

Yelp
Giving this place 4 stars because it was so beautiful inside. Went with a bigger party for dinner only and basically got a private room with its own kitchen entrance. Beautiful table, super comfortable chairs. Fell in love immediately. Really want to go back to see a show, Beautiful or Something Rotten, within the next year. Prices were very reasonable. Loved the touch of an amuse bouche. We had a honeydew chilled soup shooter with sunflower seeds. Very tasty. Was only slightly disappointed as my friend who suggested we eat here told me about a grilled octopus amuse she had enjoyed prior, which is what sold me on going there. The brussel sprouts app was huge and fantastic. Smoked trout app was delicious too and we are going to try to replicate it. Entrees were a bit disappointing however, and if not for the ambiance, I would only give it 3 stars. My husband had a duck breast special with bacon risotto and a blackberry demi glace, but the duck fat was not rendered down and he was sad. I had an eggplant manicotti and the eggplant was spongy and not cooked enough. Then back to the good for dessert. Their cinnamon roll, fantastic, and an Italian lemon cake light as air. Honestly, when we go back, it will most likely be for apps and dessert. Service was very good. The rest of our party had no complaints they verbalized. Cocktails looked great. We had wine with dinner and a tawny port with our dessert. After dinner we took a nice walk down to the water and it was beautiful.

Judy G.

Yelp
Was very surprised. Had brunch there yesterday. Avocado toast...I kid you not, definitely was made using Holy Guacamole....eggs ordered on the side were perfect....food barely warm. Price point not a big deal but taste, quality etc.....sad. Service was good but boy, their chef could take a lesson from Christine's...or Avocado cafe or....French toast was not as good as menu described but ok...food sounded much better on menu than it ta. Reality...sad

Yelp
My first visit here was for a family wedding-- this place is gorgeous. The ceremony was riverfront, followed by a cocktail hour with appetizers at a historic house a short distance away. The reception at the Carriage House was beautiful and dinner was amazing from the salad to a dessert bar with wedding cake, of course, but also warm cookies with ice cream and sundae toppings. I'd love to come stay a weekend here and try the on-site restaurant.

Yelp
It's a beautiful place.. however.... I reserved a room at Allenberry to do a local triathlon. I woke up at 530 am went to the common area to make coffee and got locked out of my room. NO BODY WAS ARIUND! Office locked and closed., security house dark and locked .The phone in the common area was of value.. no dial tone and no notation of what code needed to be dialed for outside calls. My son had a separate room gave me his cell phone . I googled Allenberry web site, called their "emergency number" which was NOT noted by the useless phone in the common area no answer, left a message, no call back. I called the number at least 6 times between the hours of 0545-8am no response. Left messages at the front desk.. no response. I obviously missed the triathlon. Allenberry reimbursed me for the room but that did not make up for the time to train , travel from Philadelphia and the 90$ to pay for the triathlon! Its shocking that such a nice place would not have a person in house in case of an emergency, a functioning land line with numbers listed by it and at lest have an on call person who answers or responds to emergency calls.

Yelp
The Barn at Allenberry is a lovely setting with a large dining room and outside deck with a bar to the side. Unfortunately outside seating is hard and needs a padded cushion that older diners would like. The Barn should be attracting locals and out of town visitors who are staying at the resort. There is very little buzz locally about The Barn, you don't see Facebook or Next door with people making recommendations or writing about having a great meal there. The Yelp and Trip Advisor comments are not good and management has not addressed some legitimate criticism. The servers are young and enthusiastic but on a Saturday night there needs to be an older person watching over and coaching. There was no upselling for a bread basket when I ordered the Thai mussels, there was no upselling of a scoop of ice cream for a stick bun at a nearby table. I had to ask for bread for the mussels and it took 8 minutes and a second reminder. I had to ask for a spoon for the mussels broth I was brought a teaspoon. The size and variety of the menu looks good. The prices and portions are reasonable. it looks like the chef looked at similar dining places you would find in NYC, DC. and Philly, but ai doubt he ever worked there or even ate at them. If you are advertising "upscale" then the bread needs to be home made and not old and warmed in the oven. They could charge more for a bread basket if home made and a selection of breads. Making home made bread is so easy for any young teen chef to knock out I love belly pork. The belly pork was cut in cubes raw and put in a deep fryer. This made it hard and not crispy. Belly pork needs some slow cooking, chilled then cut at service and deep fried. The meat is sweet and soft, the fat is crispy. The truffle fries have never seen a truffle in their life, it is pretentious. The skinny fries were straight out of a bag. If the fries were to go straight form the fryer to the table they would be cold as they are too skinny to hold any heat. Most 'upscale' places would serve a twice cooked fries, blanch cooked first, held in the cooler then quick fried at service. Thai coconut mussels were good but the mussels were drowned in the coconut gravy, too generous on the sauce and not enough Thai seasoning with a light heat pepper and basil leaves. Lime wedges were swimming in the sauce, if you do this then you need to offer a finger washing bowl, or serve the wedges on the side. The wine selection was OK and modest. The cocktail menu interesting but out gin drinks were way too light on the gin. Again something that a dining room manager would be checking on. Draft and bottle beer selection was good. There are few "upscale' restaurants in the area. Left Bank in York, Tavern Sidney in East Berlin. Harrisburg's Home 231 and Mangia Qui are not the easiest for parking. Social 113 in Carlisle does not take reservations. The Barn has these places beat for ambience and atmosphere. With some better training by front of house manager, for the young servers and make more money. for The Barn and themselves with a larger check. The chef should have had some experience in a city restaurant or push himself to make a good dish a great dish. He/ she should also be willing to train his young assistants to do some of the suggestions I have made earlier in this review. I look forward to revisiting The Barn and see if management is aiming higher for this lovely restaurant.

Yelp
We went there tonight for the first time. The food was ok but extremely over priced for the very small portion. We actually left there and stopped elsewhere for food on the way home because we were still hungry after a very expensive meal. First and last time we will go here.

Yelp
Superb! Love this place! Love the owners, the atmosphere, the staff. We have dined here frequently and last night, Friday, February 18, 2022 we dined there prior to attending a play at the Playhouse, and it was the best meal we ever had here ! For starters, the cocktails are amazing: cranberry sage cosmo - delicious. We were crunched for time- as we had to get to the play and our waitress - Margaret was so accommodating! My husband and I shared the wedge salad - YUM ! I had the ahi tuna special with wasabi mashed potatoes =delicious. He had the blackened beef tenderloin with blue cheese mashed potatoes - excellent ! Another couple with us had the NY strip special and that too was to die for! Keep Up the great service and meals- we love it !

Yelp
I rarely write reviews - only when I'm absolutely disgusted by a business or absolutely blown away. In this case I couldn't wait to write a review in the hopes it helps Allenberry to market itself because it is by far one of the most incredible places I've ever been, and I've been to many of the worlds nicest places. I think the only place in the world that matches Allenberry when it comes to hospitality, service, kindness is Kyoto in Japan where service is seen as sacred. There is something sacred about Allenberry not only in this sense - but in terms of the place itself is a little slice of Heaven. The environment is gorgeous, the property and all its spaces are clean and stunning, the rooms are spotless and luxurious and comfortable. The food is delicious. But it is truly the people who make this place so special. Never in my life in America have I been blessed with so much kindness and care. We had some pretty big hurdles as travelers moving from north to south with all our things and the staff treated us like family. Thank you so much Greg, Paul and everyone else for making Allenberry a place we happily bought hoodies to represent. I can't wait to run into someone who sees it and says "you've been to Allenberry!?" I feel that this place attracts special people and magical moments and I can't wait to go back. We will definitely spend a night here every year as we travel back and forth to see family. Theirs and ours :) if it's this beautiful when the leaves have totally fallen off the trees and the snow has yet to fall I can't even imagine how it looks with a blanket of snow or in full bloom or colored autumn. On my way out a woman who grew up in the area stopped in to buy 4 boxes of their sticky buns which she said have been perfect since she was a kid. She was on her way to visit a dying friend to bring them to her and other family and friends. She insisted on buying me some to eat with my fiancé. I just couldn't believe it! This place is pure magic. God Bless what's left of this kind of America.

Yelp
I really enjoy the Allenberry Resort but I just wish it wasn't so "out there". I guess that's all a part of its charm. I'd love to have my daughter participate in the various drama opportunities there but its not convenient to me to get her there on the daily. Anyway, about the resort itself. The property sits among some beautiful hills and a lovely creek. There is a hotel on site and a restaurant and bar and the biggest draw - the playhouse. The playhouse has performances all year round and their productions are really amazing. I love the little theater and the seats are comfortable. The restaurant will often have drink specials that go with the theme of whatever show is playing. We've seen a number of great shows there and always make an evening of it having dinner first and heading over to the show. The concessions are good too there and the prices are reasonable for a concession stand. They also serve local beer and wine which is a nice touch! The service and people who operate this are very kind and friendly. My grandmother who does walk, but slow, was making her way to the playhouse from the restaurant and someone came over and scooped her up in a golf cart and drove her right to the playhouse door. It was so cute and very much appreciated. Overall this is a fun date night, family night, friend night, or even afternoon! I love coming here! It definitely takes you away from it all even for a moment.

Yelp
This review is just for the lodging itself. The venue overall is great! Right next to the river and also the outdoor areas in general is nice. Enjoyed a few drinks at the bar and also got to hang out around the fire pits outside. I would give this a place 3.5 instead of 3 stars, but I can't on Yelp. Was in a bedroom in the Meadow Lounge and it was fairly nice except the beds were extremely uncomfortable! I woke up being sore and also it was difficult to sleep. I'm not sure what covers they use on the mattress, but moving around on it is pretty loud and sounds like a massive diaper. Pillows were also uncomfortable. Not sure what the filling is, but it feels like a bag filled with air. The room overall is nice, but I didn't get a good night's rest on their beds. Also, the shower knob is not very intuitive at all. While I enjoyed the entire venue, they need to change the beds and bedding offered.

Yelp
Vanilla bean french toast was so good!! Blueberry cheesecake made by our server Frankie or Frank's mom was so good and probably the best cheesecake I've ever had

Yelp
When it's open and operating it can be a pleasant experience except for the very unpleasant staff who work in the cafe'.

Yelp
My family recently spent the weekend at Allenberry. While I think they have a promising property that has lots of potential (and good food), the service and experience was extremely unprofessional. A "resort" should hold itself to the highest standards and this fell far short. Our cabin was far less than what you'd come to expect from the very high price. It was somewhat rundown and was decorated in a very lazy fashion. 2 of the same crooked hanging pictures in multiple rooms? The back bathroom was extremely cramped and smelled as if an animal had died in the vent. There was no dish soap or hand soap anywhere, only a half full bottle of hand sanitizer for a house that sleeps 10. A window in the bottom of the house was broken and left open, which may explain the dead animal smell. The service was composed of very young people, most of whom were nice, but not very knowledgeable or accommodating with very simple requests. The managers seemed to be arguing with customers on every occasion I was in the front office and finding reasons to charge extra for mundane things like a room change request or asking for a tiny extension to checkout time. I would review your invoice carefully!! We felt the prices were absurdly high for a number of items ($5 for a small bag of chips, $3.50 for self serve coffee?). Again, I think Allenberry has a lot of potential and could be an awesome place with a bit of rebranding and a staff composed of nice, experienced professionals. They have a great opportunity to build around a very good restaurant menu and venue and I hope they can do so in the future.

Yelp
Esthetically attractive environment yet missing some guidance in fine tuning . 1. Lighting needs to be be better in tune with timing of service ie dinner shouldn't feel like breakfast day light .. i mean one shouldn't feel like they are at chipotle . 2. Service well intentioned but had to ask table in front of our to be cleared after 15 min of staring at patrons finished meals. 3. Meal tasty but not delivered hot 1 out of 3 warm 2/3 on cool side . Meals really need to be hot! 4. Not sure or i dont know are not ideal answers when client asks any question on wine etc just say ill check on that .. let me see what i can do etc.. basically feels like ship without a solid manager For the price should be higher bar

Yelp
First time at the Barn for dinner was meant to be special to celebrate my wife's 60th birthday with our friends for a total of 12 guests. Our server informed us that, per the manager, we would only be permitted a max of 4 checks and that this was her first time with a large party. While our server was pleasant an personable, she struggled with the party size. The bar was totally unable to handle the drink orders and multiple beers on the tap list we not available anymore. The food however was delicious. We wrapped the evening up with a birthday cake that we brought from outside and we were aware that there would be a serving charge. The cake was never "served" other than our server carried it from the kitchen to our table. The charge for that was $20. My wife cut the cake and served it to our friends. We had figured out how we were going to manage the checks for the group but when the check came is was simply a list of items with no separation by seat. There was no attempt to group items and after 20 minutes of struggling to make sense of it ourselves, we gave up and someone offered up their card for the whole group. I'm glad the food was good and the venue was very nice but the other aspects of the evening make it unlikely that we would return.

Tim M.

Yelp
Summary: Based on our service, we won't return to the Barn. I gave them two stars because the food was good but not good enough to overcome taking 75-minutes to get our order out (and only after seeking out a manager for assistance). In short, the service was abysmal. More details are below... Our first and last time dining at Allenberry. We made reservations for Sunday brunch at 1:00 and arrived early. We waited for several minutes for assistance because there was no hostess. A server eventually helped us, asked us to wait a little longer, and found us our table. It took a little while, but our server finally came to our table. One guest in our party had significant allergies. We asked him about egg and peanut allergies. He started to guess at how the food was prepared, so we asked him to check with the kitchen. Good thing - he had guessed wrong. Once we confirmed what everyone in our party could eat, we ordered. Our server refilled our water glasses three times but never gave us an update on our order. We waited for just under an hour before asking about the status of for our food. He said that there was a party of twenty in front of us, never mind the fact that we arrived and ordered before this party. Then he offered to check with the kitchen on the status of our food. He came back out and said that it would be another five- to ten-minutes. I think he could have handled this better had he given us an update after 30 or so minutes and offered us an appetizer (or something) to help hold us over while we waited for our order to be prepared. I finally got up and asked the bartender to see the manager. He asked about my issue, so I explained some of it to him but said that I would prefer to speak with the manager. Then he told me that he was the manager (something that I thought he would've told me when I first approached the bar...). He said that he would personally see what the hold-up was and asked where I was sitting. The bartender/manager went into the kitchen. Our server shortly came out of the kitchen with a tray of food that was for a table that arrived approximately forty-five minutes after us. Another server came out with dessert plates for the party of six sitting next to us. When our server came out several minutes later, he had two of our four orders and returned with the other two about three minutes after that. My food was barely warm, but everyone else's food at my table was hot and tasted good (hence the two- instead of one-star review). The bartender/manager never followed up with us. He never came to our table to apologize and check on the meal once we were served. In short, our server was ill-prepared to perform his duties and the manager failed to manage.

Yelp
It's sad to have to give this place 1 star but it has to be done. This used to be one of our favorite restaurants with excellent food. We went with a group and almost everyone's food was terrible and the presentation was even worse. We found out that there's a new chef that started a few weeks ago. We will not be back until he/she has been replaced. I'm not sure how we find out when there's a new chef to replace this one but I would say stay away until that has happened.

Yelp
I grew up here in central PA and have been away for decades, now living in Boston. My sister and brother-in-law treated us to dinner at the The Barn and WOW. I don't think I've ever had a better meal in Central PA. The menu--smallish but wonderful. I ordered the scallops and mushroom risotto which I highly recommend! Basically I would have devoured anything on that menu--no bad choices. For appies, we went a little crazy, honey, and we recommend you do likewise. We went on a hush puppy rampage and then chased that with outrageously indulgent barn fries complete with dippy egg and big cuts of onions. The wedge salad rocked the Casbah as well--generously appointed with bacon and other delectables. Get it! Lastly, dessert. My tooth is decidedly not a sweet one, but do yourself a favor and get either the Oreo peanut butter pie with house made whipped cream OR the devastatingly melt in your mouth Cinnamon bun a la mode. Our waitress Stephanie was attentive, outgoing, personality plus, very knowledgeable of the menu and bar offerings. One of those servers not afraid to tell us what NOT to order, as she helped us to navigate the cocktails with an emphasis on tasty handcrafted yum-yums like a blackberry bourbon smash and lychee margarita! Impress your friends, family, and other varmints and get there right away!

Yelp
What a meal last evening at The Barn! The food was delicious, the service outstanding and the setting.......unbeatable! What a gorgeous resort! As a party of 7, we had dined at The Barn several times prior. To a person, it was the best meal we've ever had there! The starters, from the seared tuna, lobster bisque, salads and Brussel sprouts were all out of this world. Our main courses were equally as delicious. The tenderloin was perfect, shrimp tacos on point and the burger and truffle fries are always superb. We honestly couldn't have had a better evening.....oh, and the drinks!!! Thanks Allenberry for a GREAT experience......we'll see you all very soon!

Yelp
I've had dinner or brunch here 4-5 times. I really want to like this place, but..... First, the setting is gorgeous. The view of the Yellow Breeches and the property is beautiful and peaceful. The Barn is nicely restored - an upscale rustic kind of ambiance. That aside, the reason I go out for a meal is for the food and the company. While I've never been overwhelmed, I've gone back multiple times for Mother's Day, a holiday dinner and brunches with friends. After the last experience, I decided I won't be going back. I haven't eaten in a restaurant since February (only take-out 5-6 times), so I was really looking forward to a special meal. My friend and I decided to order a take-out meal and enjoy it next to the creek (lots of tables & chairs here, or feel free to bring your own like I did.) I ordered the lobster benedict with a fruit salad on the salad and my friend ordered the oatmeal. Here was the result: When the server brought the to-go bag, I happened to ask if the fruit was included. It wasn't and he had to go get it (they also forgot to add it to my check, but I didn't remind them.) So we trek all the way down to the creek, get settled in our chairs, and open our containers. There is no silverware, no napkins. Huh? How did they think we were going to eat? At least we were prepared and brought our own paper & plastic goods and I had brought my own thermos of coffee. The food was awful. The english muffin was barely toasted, the hollandaise was scant and flavorless, the lobster was okay, the fried potatoes lacked any kind of seasoning and tasted like they were made the day before, and the eggs were perfectly poached so there was at least one good thing on my plate. My friend hated the oatmeal which came with a side of fried potatoes. Oatmeal and potatoes? What? There was no cream to pour over the oatmeal or no berry compote, just a bowl of flavorless oatmeal. She could have made that meal at home for 50 cents. She ate a couple bites and threw the rest of it away. What you get here is the view and the ambiance and someone else to cook your meal, so if that's what you're looking for then you'll enjoy it. But if you're looking for great food, quality and attentive service, you'll be disappointed.

Yelp
The Barn @ the Allenberry Resort is easily the most picturesque dining spot in central PA. The resort is top notch. We've never stayed on the property since we live close by, but we've walked the property several times. There is outside dining, live music, cornhole boards, a newly installed pickle ball court all on the banks of the Yellow Breeches. Area high school kids flock to the resort for pictures before prom & homecoming because the place is so stunning. Onto the dining experience. My wife and I ate at a bar booth because they had reached capacity in both in the main dining area and outside dining. They had removed the bar stools because of the current covid restraints, so sitting in the bar was actually pleasant and quite quiet. My wife and I could talk at a normal level and enjoy each other's company. Before we ordered, we were greeted to a nice conversation with the manager on duty. His name was Dan. He was a very nice guy and easy to talk to. He stopped by to check on us a few times to make sure we were enjoying ourselves. We split an order of the Brussel sprouts and the yellow fin tuna. The Brussel sprouts were lightly fried (no batter) and had an amazingly tasty glaze (a tough of sweet and a tough of heat) poured over them with pecans sprinkled on top. They were to die for. I highly recommend them. The yellow fin was tasty as well. The portion was smaller than the Brussel sprouts. They very good but if you're looking for one app, I would suggest the spouts. My wife had a drink that wasn't listed on the menu but was suggested by a friend. It's called the Great Goretski....it was a martini with vodka and blood orange. My wife liked it so much she ordered another. I'm normally a beer guy but decided I was going to try one of their mixed drink offering. I went with the Freshfields Mojito first them decided to try the Pennsyltucky Buck. Both were good but I favored the Mojito since I'm not a huge gingerbeer fan which the Buck contained. The bartender, Lucus, who waited on us was extremely nice as well. We struck on great conversation about the local wrestling scene. Now onto the main course. My wife ordered the salmon and I ordered the tenderloin. Both were cooked to perfection. I ordered the tenderloin medium rare. The temp was spot on. The meat tender and flavorful. My favorite thing on the menu though was the dessert. You have to get the Sticky Bun a la mode. They make the best sticky bun I ever had. Hands down, no contest. They're dense and delicious. Even if you don't make it to The Barn for dinner. Stop by for a morning sticky bun and a coffee. They have a beautiful cafe as well. You will not be disappointed. Thanks for the great meal as always.

Yelp
I was visiting my daughter at Dickinson College (nearby) and took her and 3 friends to the spa at Allenberry (Changes Spa). Allenberry Resort was so cute. The cafe, the restaurant, the room, everything. The room was very clean and cute and had all amenities. I'll definitely be back.

Yelp
Pros - beautiful atmosphere! Grew up in the area and love the renovations. Cons - we've eaten here before and had been very happy. I'm writing this review because it is the second time we have had unimpressive meals that were very expensive. We like to eat at the bar, however this time we were subjected to listen to the staff talking to patrons about another staff member and no one (even kitchen staff) likes her. This went on for 10-15 mins. My husband had the ribeye and asked for medium to medium-well, it was medium-rare. He loved the Parmesan Fries. My Halibut was awesome but the duck rice and vegetables were horrible, I couldn't even eat them. We had a total of 3 drinks (1 was wine) and the bill with tip was $125. Not an enjoyable evening.

Yelp
Horrible customer service. They have collected thousands of dollars for an event I am involved in and have been unresponsive to requests for updates and information. I will never recommend or visit their establishment again. In times like these they need to be even more sensitive to their clientele's needs.

Yelp
Loved loved loved!!!! Stayed in the 5 bedroom cottage for my daughters wedding an we couldn't have been any happier. The wedding was off site an they were kind enough to drive us to the location to an from! The bar, restaurant, breakfast was all phenomenal. Our gang cant wait to go back to the resort for a winter weekend an you never need to leave while there. We met some of the employees who went out of their way for us who deserve mention Eddie - he did it all from bringing extra towels, took care of the garbage, anything we needed he helped us with Chris -the new food an beverage manager talked to us at the bar, drove the van to the wedding an just in general a kind man Hopefully they will have Guinness when we go back!! Even after a month out we are still talking about how much we loved it!! Thank you!!

Yelp
The Barn has stunning views, and it is a pretty good restaurant. The steak was well seasoned, albeit just a sprinkle of seasoning short of being over seasoned. The fish unfortunately got that extra sprinkle too much. The waiter was pleasant, although he missed the training class on not holding customers glasses right at the tip. After all, we would rather not put our lips on whatever was just on your fingertips a moment prior. The host was also so consumed with talking to a customer that he ignored the line forming to be seated. The five minute wait for him to finish the non-essential conversation was unnecessary. These customer service challenges made this a 4 rather than 5 star experience.

Yelp
My fiancé and I spent 2 nights here this weekend, and can't wait to go back. The staff was very nice and hospitable, the room was clean and comfortable, the views and grounds are beautiful, and the pool was nice and relaxing as well. Dinner at the Barn was AMAZING, and breakfast at the cafe was yummy as well! We come to town once a year, and we have finally found Somewhere that we can't wait to return to!

Yelp
We went here for brunch twice. First time, fantastic....literally fantastic. Great cocktails and some great food options. The second time....not so good. I asked the server if there was a new head chef or something because everything for brunch went downhill. There was no menu option for anyone wanting to eat low-carb. So I decided to cheat and went for their regular breakfast. Pancake and waffle were soggy, the scrambled egg must have been a single egg. The bacon was ok, coffee was ok. The cocktails were unremarkable other than the "CEO", that was decent. The worst dish we had was the chicken and waffles. It's like they ran out of chicken so the parboiled some frozen breast, shredded it and threw it on waffles. Chewy, dry, stringy chicken over a waffle with some honey...it was almost inedible. The ONLY reason I'm giving this 3 stars at this point is the cinnamon roll, and atmosphere. Perhaps one the best cinnamon rolls we have had locally. Plus, the facility is awesome. I really want this place to be good....I hope they read this review and get their act together.

Yelp
We rented what was advertised as a "romantic cottage" at the resort. Checking in at night, we couldn't find it and had to ask the surly receptionist 3 times. She grudgingly lead us to our cottage - which was a room behind the real estate administration office. Downhill for the next few days. No coffee mugs in the room, but the salespeople next door had left some used ones we could wash. Asking for the promised late night menu we were told there's a Rutgers truck stop down the road. The "resort" is clearly focusing on selling their planned community real estate, so hospitality to guests is not a priority. But as they say, fool me once ...

Yelp
This is a very nice get away spot. New ownership is putting in money for renovations. New overnight accommodations, new offices and restaurant, etc. The theater offers a nice venue to see plays and musicals and the creekside setting offers tubing, kayaking, fly-fishing opportunities. Leave the low ratings behind. The place is rapidly coming back. We enjoyed our overnight here immensely. Even though the tavern menu is condensed until the full restaurant reopens in August the food was still very good. My crab cake was delicious and the wife's beef was excellent.

Yelp
What an incredible job they have done renovating this property! Cozy, beautiful and the attention to detail is extraordinary. I was part of a party of six. We enjoyed a drink in the bar before dinner and received great service and perfect cocktails in the dimly-lit cozy bar. Dinner was delicious. Again, detail a focus. We each ordered and shared appetizers. The watermelon salad was outstanding. Loved the hush puppies and the eggplant fries too. Loving the pretzel bites served before dinner arrives! The main course was a hit as well. Each getting a different dish and all equally happy with our choices. I loved the vegetable napoleon. The sauce was lick-your-plate-worthy. Desserts were yummy and our waitress, Jennifer was friendly and attentive. We will definitely be back!!
