I've been to a few different shows at the Alley Theatre, and it's usually a good time!
First, parking is reasonably OK - there's a parking garage connected with the theatre, so that's pretty convenient. It definitely gets crowded at certain points (so it sometimes takes forever to get out of the garage after a performance!), but parking is reasonably priced and everything generally feels safe, so I can't complain too much.
The theatre itself is reasonably sized and contains at least a couple of different stages. I've only seen performances on the upper level (larger) stage, so the rest of my review is based on those experiences. After getting your tickets and heading upstairs, you wait around for a while for the theatre to open so you can be seated. There are some refreshments (and free water!) available to entertain you, and there are plenty of people milling about and chatting. In case you need to get rid of some of that water, the (men's) bathroom is quite large, but there are also usually a lot of people hanging around, so it can get pretty busy at times (especially during intermission!).
After a while, you're finally allowed to enter the venue :) The seating is set up reasonably well so that even if you have a pretty cheap seat, you can usually see most of what's happening on stage. The seats are comfortable, although there are no drink holders (I guess you're not supposed to eat or drink in the theatre, so I can see why that's the case). The performances tend to start pretty close to on time, although sometimes I feel like a given show is slightly delayed.
My one critique of this place is that I just don't find most of the plays that interesting. They did a Steve Martin play (Picasso at the Lapin Agile) that I thought was pretty mediocre, and they also did a play based on a Hitchcock film called the 39 Steps (well, I guess the Hitchcock film was based on a John Buchan novel, but I definitely didn't know that before seeing the play) that was pretty underwhelming too. There have definitely been good choices as well (I really enjoyed the Freaky Friday musical that they put on, and the recent Sherlock Holmes play was entertaining and had quite a few twists!), but there are enough duds that I can't give the place 5 stars. This is a knock on the plays and NOT the actors, who tend to be pretty good in everything.
Overall, I think Alley Theatre is a great place to spend an evening! Just make sure that the play you're seeing seems interesting and has good reviews :)
