I parked in the Alley Theater Garage and made my way down to the ground floor via the elevator, I ran into Whitney, from Operations for the Alley Theater. She told me all about the theater and showed me around, made me feel like a VIP! I went back stage, I went main stage, saw the smaller stage with an active 'reading' going on, it was a sight to see. I have a curious mind and love exploring, Whitney made me feel like I belonged. There's a whole gigantic hidden world underneath the theater stages. I loved every second of it, she even gave me a free water unasked, that was very nice of her. I loved the impromptu tour of Alley Theater, perhaps someday I will make my way back here to see a show. A lot of work goes into the shows, so many moving parts and people involved. Thank you Whitney! You have a wonderful upbeat positive personality, perfect for theater. I wish Whitney and the theater the best, I'm glad she showed me around, and glad I took a random chance and stopped to ask her questions. It always surprises me the places I end up seeing just by taking a chance and talking to people I don't know. It was awesome.

What a sensational experience!! I had the pleasure of viewing “The Mirror Crack’d” opening night at the Alley Theater. The whole evening was enchanting from start to finish. They offer a few charming beverage bars that offer a variety of wine, liquor, and beers that guest can help themselves to prior to the show and during intermission. They also have plenty of tables and seating areas inside and out to mingle. The outside balcony has breathtaking views of downtown! The auditorium is spacious with every seat providing a spectacular view of the stage. The overall production from the actors to the sound was more than I bargained for! I will definitely be returning, so if you have not treated yourself to an evening out- I highly recommend suggest The Alley Theatre. 🎭

I absolutely love Christmas Carol last December. The original actor apparently couldn't do the Scrooge roll & the understudy did a fabulous job. Ghost Of Christmas Future was the coolest & huge. I wanna go see it again this Christmas. I love this theater & I've already gonna see 2 more plays there. Highly recommend 👌.

Went here 6 years ago on our third date…now many years later enjoying another show!! Beautiful place. Lovely performance!

We attended A Christmas Carol at the Alley. This was my husband's first time, but my second. It was Christmas time and the Libby was decorated and full of Christmas trees. Each tree was unique. The production was delightful! The cast is very talented. We had so much fun. I don't think that there is a bad seat in the house. The way that the seating is situated everyone gets a good view. You can Google the seat locations and get a review of each seat location! We sat off center, about half way up, stage right and had a great view. If you haven't seen this production or haven't been to the theater, this is a great place to start. The theater staff is friendly and so helpful! Plan to go, it's a wonderful experience.

Always a great experience at the Alley Theater. All the staff is very friendly, they greet you with a smile and are always happy to help and answer your questions. Weathered you are a season ticket holder or you are visiting for the first time, you will have a great time here.

I'm actually in here waiting for my Wife and Mother-in-Law, who got tix to "A Christmas Carol." I had seriously planned to sit in the parking garage next door & chill, but alas, after 2 1/2 hours, nature calls. The absolutely amazing folks at the front door let me in and scanned a badge to get me to the restrooms on the 3rd floor. That was awesome. Even better, I was asked if I wanted a drink from the bar & invited to stay. Every one of these folks has been amazing - I wish more businesses would subscribe to this group's training. The play that I've seen on a 55" TV, in the bar area, has been well produced. I wish I'd have gotten a ticket, but this is a bit of an outside view. Such a beautiful theater.

Google
This was our first time at this theater. We were thoroughly impressed with the entire production. There are no bad seats, they all seem to have nice views of the stage. The sounds and lighting were very appropriate to the show. I was so amazed that two actors were able to capture my attention for the entire show. The show was riveting.

Yelp
My wife and I just enjoyed watching Agatha Christie's "And Then There Were None" and I have to say it was one of the best shows I've ever seen! The cast made me feel like I wasn't in the room and even gave me chills when they walked off stage. The clues and twists led to a reveal I didn't even come close to solving, but it made it that much better! Overall the set was amazing, the cast was incredible, and the story was thrilling! If you want a night full of wonder and mystery you should definitely go see this play. Also I got to see one of the actors (Rodgers) in the elevator on my way out!

Yelp
I have been to Alley Theatre on three occasions for plays and once for an event. As a lover of the arts, Houston has a great theater district. Alley Theatre is part of the mix. Located downtown, I'm morally opposed to valet parking so I always find street parking for free in the area. It may take circling around a bit but you'll find a spot. I have seen Dial M for Murder, A Christmas Carol, and Agatha Christie's And Then There Were None. There's a lot to like. It's a small theater which makes it an intimate experience. There's no bad seat in the house. I've even sat in the front row! The acting is impressive and you'll see some of the same folks from play-to-play. During intermission, I've enjoyed a beverage or two. Make sure to get there quick because a line will form which will cut things close. You can place an order ahead of time so your drink is waiting for you at intermission. My only real criticism? You can only bring water into the theater. Other theaters allow you to bring in alcohol so I wish Alley Theatre did the same. Other than that, awesome experience. Tickets are reasonably priced.

Yelp
I went with my friends to watch the play December. The staff was kind & I appreciated the unique structure of the venue. I was surprised at how intimate the space was which allowed the audience to have a good view of the actors no matter how far you sat. I recommend sitting more center even if you have to take a seat further back.

Yelp
The Christmas Carol lacked dignity, traditional elements and I was not impressed with most of the cast. It was a woke play. It did not reflect Dickens novel, empathy, or sincerity. There were many actors shouting at us the entire play as if they were narrating the plot. It was not touching. They concentrated on cheap laughs instead of digging into the lives, feelings and challenges of the characters. We left when one of the male Christmas ghosts came out in a females green dress. The theater was also 1/2 empty. Of the many, many decorated Christmas trees none carried the true meaning of Christmas which is the birth of Jesus. Not one tree of about 12 had a nativity. This is insensitive and insulting. I won't return. So many organizations want your money at Christmas but refuse to acknowledge the meaning of Christmas. A money grab. I won't be a part of this. We watched A Christmas Carol at home and loved the touching story of redemption. It will be our new Christmas tradition.

Yelp
Loved this theatre! It was so small and intimate. The parking wasn't expensive. We did get parking a bit cheaper because I used Spot Hero to reserve a parking spot ahead of time. The bar was quite slow, and we were one of the first in line during intermission and had to chug our drinks in the small time frame. The acting was great for this play, and I definitely recommend going to see it while you can. The online ordering is a bit tricky if you have a promo code. Students get a significant discount on tickets. You do need to show a student ID, though, in order to receive the tickets at will call. The recommended calling and just ordering tickets over the phone if needed. The staff was all friendly and helpful. Pro tip - Stop by Birraporettis before the play for some amazing bruschetta and drinks!

Yelp
We had a fantastic experience with the Alley Theatre watching A Christmas Carol. Parking was easy to navigate as well as finding the location for the play. The entrance was really pretty and the staff incredibly helpful. After issues with our dinner we were running quite a bit late. We had a few minutes to find out seats and after issues even logging back into the site as well. The staff members were able to get us all squared away and in our seats. The theater is pretty intimate and I don't really think there is a bad seat in the house. You can hear the actors and music clearly throughout the performance and they were fantastic (Spirit of Christmas Present was my favorite i'm here for all the sass!) I think the play itself was just amazing to watch!

Yelp
Very nice theater. Easy to scan tickets. Helpful staff everywhere. Clean bathrooms with attendants. Bar staff is friendly and ordering drinks for intermission is easy. Although I wish intermissions were longer as I usually have to chug my drink. Theater is nice and intimate. The actors are superb. Great shows.

Yelp
Went to the Alley Theatre for the first time yesterday to see Jane Eyre. What a beautiful theatre. The ambience was classy. The play itself was phenomenal. All the performers were incredibly talented. No matter where your seats are, there isn't a bad seat. There is a bar, outdoor patio space, and convenient parking in the garage. Highly recommend.

Yelp
And Then There Were None is still one of my favorite murder mysteries after reading the novel as a child. Great to see it brought to life by a talented cast. The theatre was well attended and not a bad seat in the house, even sec 1 row K (side back) had a great view and it was a very reasonable price for a 2 pm weekend show. Acoustics were great. And the bar was well organized even taking preorders for intermission which was super convenient. Would definitely recommend!

Yelp
A Christmas Carol, with wonderful special effects, a cappella singing, and a violinist make the intimate play special. And every actor was indelible! Plan to see more in 2025!

Yelp
A charming place in dazzling Houston downtown. One should definitely check out this theatre once in their lifetime. Parking was very easy to find and reasonably priced at a nearby garage. There is also free street parking after 6 pm on weekdays and free all day on weekends. The place was clean and there were drinks and mini entrees available to order while you wait for the play to start. People were dressed in all assortments from suits to tee shirts so I'm going to assume there is no dress code that is enforced. I was not allowed to record or take photos while inside the stage box but it was pretty spacious and seats were comfortable and the room itself was air conditioned well. Didn't feel claustrophobic at all. Production was high quality and since it wasn't crowded I was able to move up a couple of seats to get a closer view with no issue. There are a couple 15 minute breaks in between scenes to allow the actors and audience to take a refresher outside if needed. Overall everyone was friendly, welcoming, and professional so I had a lovely evening. Will be back soon!

Yelp
The Alley Theatre is a Houston classic. The venue is intimate and has local productions. I've enjoyed all of my visits here. I recently went to see A Christmas Carol, and the theater was very festive with Christmas decorations. We parked in the parking garage for $9. At the bar, there was hot coffee ($3), hot chocolate ($6), eggnog ($15), and a full bar. The coffee and cocoa were served in tiny foam cups, so they were grossly overpriced (to be expected), but I wouldn't purchase them anyways as you can't bring beverages inside the auditorium. I silently watched as my brother and sister-in-law chugged their drinks. You are allowed to bring bottled water inside. I had a seat far to the side on my recent visit, but I could still see the stage well. The view is definitely better sitting closer to the center, but it wasn't a big deal. I don't go to plays often, but I've liked all the shows here and enjoy the small size.

Yelp
Alvin Ailey Dancers are phenomenal! I will go and see them every time they come to Houston, TX. The parking was okay. The elevator was not clearly marked for the disabled. Had to climb a lot of stairs the next day back, spinal pain was extreme. The upstairs area had a bathroom stall of 4 with over 100 women in line and once again stairs. Jones Hall may need renovation for the disabled unless that is designed to discourage the disabled. I saw a woman with a cane turn around and go back home. She said she could not do the stairs.

Yelp
I'm a bit of a play/musical junkie and have been to other theatres in the theatre district. This one by far is in my top two next to Hobby. I went to A Christmas Carol..the inside is extremely intimate and was festive for the season with themed Christmas trees. This is the first time I have ever not had to wait in a line for the bathroom at peak times (pre-show, intermission and post-show). There were also 2 bars open. There isn't much table seating to enjoy drinks before but tables for standing and some benches. As far as seats, this is a pretty small theatre. Reminded me of my high-school auditorium so for the most part there isn't a bad seat in the house but I wouldn't recommend first row seating. It was a bit close and I could see EVERYTHING. Also for this show there were special effects of mist and whatever they used for that definitely aggravated my allergies but if I hadn't been in the first row I'm sure it would've been fine. Thanks to my boyfriend for capturing my pic in front of the theatre.

Yelp
Excellent seats, great value, loved the Sherlock story! Easy to park and get to. Drinks were great and you can preorder for pickup during intermission. There are plenty of places for a pre theater drink or dinner nearby as well. Will definitely see another show here.

Yelp
I have grown to really love this theater and its actors. Have been going regularly, sometimes with my husband and sometimes with my daughter. Just recently went to see the Emporium with my daughter, and she loved it. It was held in the smaller theater downstairs. It was very interactive and funny. A favorite place to visit in Houston for us.

Yelp
Loved being here to see pretty woman! Beautiful theatre and very upscale. The seating is great because no matter where you sit, you have a good view!

Yelp
Went to the Alley Theater last night, Thursday, April 26. I'm apart of the Act Out group. This group always sees the show on a Thursday and the Alley provides a pre show cocktail hour. Last night we were told that they were cutting the budget for our event. There was only wine and a gin punch that was gross. I'm disappointed that they waited until people renewed for the 2024-2025 season before they pulled this stunt. The cocktail/social hour is something that my friends and I look forward to. Had I known they were going to cut the budget for this event I would not have renewed. I feel like I was conned. I left during intermission because I was so disgusted with the Alley staff. Lots of disappointed patrons.

Yelp
Each time we attend a play here, we have the perfect seats, because I don't think there are any bad seats here. It's a ideal size venue for a play. The cast does a great job of entertaining the audience and keeping us engaged. Can't wait to see what they do next.
google avatar

Tabatha P.

Yelp
We love this intimate theatre. We purchased seats on Stage Left (The left side of the stage from the actor's point of view) and we were so up close and personal. But in reality the theatre is small enough that any seat seems like it would be a great experience. I really did like the side though and would likely look in this section again. Great acting. Great experience with teen kids too. They really enjoyed it.

Yelp
Alley Theatre is a beautiful venue. The staff are exceptionally friendly. Bar service is quick. They do not allow you to bring drinks into the theatre (for good reason). But they do allow you to bring in bottled water. The Neuhaus Theatre is charming and, in my opinion, the best seats are the third or fourth rows up in the South section. But to be quite frank, there's really not a bad seat in the house. I saw "Seascape". There were obvious discussions about love, marriage, and end-of-life crises in the first half of the play. But the subtle part was the metaphor for racism, bigotry, and othering in the second half of the play using reptilian creatures seeking asylum from the "sea" in a foreign "land". It is performed in a humorous and entertaining manner which must have been difficult for the writer & director given such a sensitive topic. I can see why it won a Pulitzer Prize.
google avatar

Yelp
Really enjoy myself each time I have seen a play or music artist in this particular setting. The theater is in the round with several hundred seats (I guess 300-400) with no bad seats top to bottom - stage right to stage left. Last night we saw a silly play called Clue - based on the board game. It was full of bad puns and a lot of overacting, but that's right up my "Alley". Seriously though, the play kept me smiling and laughing at this group of hard working actors - great cast that played off each other very well and had outstanding coordination in moving various large stage pieces around in between each scene. I don't think anyone left disappointed. Highly recommend this show and any other in this venue!

Steven C.

Yelp
UPDATE: Use alleytheatre.org. Tickets prices are half with minimal ticket fees. .I've never been to the Alley and took the opportunity to look up Christmas Carol 2023. With the cheap seats on the side at $300 each midweek after tickets fees, I still won't be visiting the Alley.

Yelp
Went Saturday to see The Servant of Two Masters. Alley Theatre is an excellent venue as all the seats provide an optimal view. The play was marvelous and very well done. It's was funny and entertaining long with great crowd interaction. It was a very well done production and highly recommend.

Yelp
The Alley Theater is ingrained in Houston's cultural scene. I'm grateful for their Summer Chills series and I look forward to them every year.

Yelp
Love our visit to the Alley Theatre for my Husband Birthday Celebration. Every thing was perfect, professional staff. Convenient Paid Parking around $20.00 The Little Comedies Performance was incredible.

Yelp
Great venue. Great plays. I love this place. It's my go to for the arts and a couple hours of clean fun. I just saw Murder On The Orient Express. Once again the production was really good, the setting was great and there just isn't a bad seat in the house. My wife paid a little extra for a VIP ticket that gave us access to a private bar and bathrooms. This isn't something super fancy but is nice to share the bar and bathroom with fewer people. Simply put, shorter lines. Worth it in my opinion. Overall, it my be my favorite spot for plays and the arts in Houston.

Yelp
The boyfriend got us tickets to see Agatha Christie's The Mousetrap and it was one of my favorite theater experiences! I guess my positive experience was more from the actual content than the theater itself. It's a small theater, unpretentious space with a cozy feel that almost creates a feeling of family, so we didn't mind holding onto the cane of the man behind us when it whacked me. That being said, the crowd is was much much older and it seemed like the only people who were even somewhat close to our age were teens and kids that the parents had brought along. Our seats were actual chairs versus the nicer red theater seats, which was undisclosed when we purchased the tickets. Not too many complaints here though since these were the closest to the center aisle and we're not too picky about the physical seats. The only other negative was that there are no drinks allowed in the theater so you're forced to chug your drink in the minimal amount of time that you're allowed for intermission (water is allowed though). Parking is pretty easy if you purchase it ahead of time, but the spots are tiny. The builders were definitely trying to get their money's worth with packing as many cars as possible into one garage, so be careful to look out for cars whipping around the corner.

Carol M.

Yelp
No no way is the following review a reflection on the actual performance, which I would give 5 stars, but on the rude nature in which we were treated. My husband bought us tickets to see A Christmas Carol for his birthday this year, and we went this evening. His specifically chose the seats we seat in because they are handicapped accessible. We were showed to our seats and the usher showed us how to use the wheelchair lift. About 3 minutes before the end we showed ourselves out via the lift and we're greeted upon exit. The older, gray (shirt) haired lady that was there when the lift opened and was rudely saying, "We're not allowed to use the lift during performance.", and walked away. Is this really how the employees of this theatre treat disabled patrons?! If it is we will NEVER be back. This one rude employee ruined the whole night. We were never told that we couldn't use the lift during performance. What would've happened if this was an emergency? Do better!!

Yelp
If you never attended a play at Alley Theatre, do yourself a favor and go see a show there right away! Alley Theatre is definitely one of the gems in Houston arts & cultures scene when there's other many theaters in downtown and surrounding areas. One thing about Alley Theatre is that they have a resident company of actors that made this theater their home. Meaning you may see the same actors in different plays through out the season but those actors' diverse talent will never make you feel like you are seeing the same person in different plays they acted in. The production value for these shows are tremendous and the shows various from modern historical events to different vision of Sherlock Holmes or even fantastical re-interpretation of characters like Don Quixote. The fact that Alley Theatre will do all kinds of set design that would push the boundary of story telling and making sure every viewers can see the action that's going on the stage. I have been going to Alley Theatre since almost 10 years now (when I was in college!) and I have never, ever get tired of seeing a show here.

Yelp
A Christmas Carol is a Christmas tradition in my family and we go to see it performed here at the Alley Theatre. The play is a magical experience performed by exceptional actors in a wonderfully organized and beautifully decorated venue. If you haven't seen it yet, go-- it's that time of year! You won't be disappointed. It's fun for the entire family-- nice date idea too! Any seat you select will be a good one, as it's relatively small inside. I moved to Austin in December of last year, so I'll miss seeing the play performed here this Christmas (*tear), but I wanted to share this nugget of information with my fellow Houstonians, or anyone looking for a great place to catch a stage play this holiday season!

Yelp
What a lovely venue! The last time I was here was on a date to watch Hand to God, which was done really well. Aside from a dark ending, it was impressive how well a show can perform on stage without much of a set or actors! The theater itself provides a space of comfort and welcome, and the bathrooms aren't shabby. It's really nice that Houston has a place like Alley, where I can feel like I can afford to watch plays of quality.
google avatar

Christine L.

Yelp
We saw constellations in the more intimate venue and seating was comfortable and great performances by the two actors. We've also seen several productions in the bigger venue and been quite pleased. Highly recommended!

Yelp
Went to watch A Christmas Carol with the Mrs. Loved every second. Not that it even mattered, but the obvious spin was they had a black actor playing Scrooge, and he did not disappoint! Fantastic all the way around, charming, hilarious, and witty. Kudos David Raney, you've got two new fans!! The housekeeper Mrs. Dilber (David Matranga) was a riot. Came to see Briana Resa - the ghost, the rich lady, and Patricia Fezziwig - of course she was amazing - just like when we saw her perform in Empanada Loca a few months back. So much fun. If you haven't seen it yet this year hurry up before it's over.

Kannan V.

Yelp
We had booked 6 seats online for a show and were eagerly looking forward to the outing. Unfortunately, on the morning of the event, two of the guests fell seriously ill and obviously could not have made it. Even though the tickets were non-refundable, once I explained the situation to the Ticket Agent over the phone, without any hesitation whatsoever, he promptly offered to refund the cost of 2 of the 6 tickets. And literally minutes later the reversed charges appeared on my credit card. The graciousness, promptness and professionalism shown were exemplary. I was very impressed. Kudos to Alley Theatre!

Tamara S.

Yelp
This year's new adaptation of A Christmas Carol was so disappointing. With so many changes going on in the world today it would've been nice if they had just left well enough alone. A Christmas Carol has been a family tradition of ours for over 10 years. Our children, now adults, looked forward to coming with us each year to experience the ability of a selfish man to redeem himself by transforming into a more sympathetic character. This key theme of the story is lost in this new adaptation. There are no children in the play (Tiny Tim is an adult with a crutch), all of the fabulous set changes and props are covered up behind the stage and not used. Only two dining tables and the bed are used after the first scene. Also, the play is 80 minutes with no intermission. The actors are great, but the heartfelt story is gone. So sad.

Yelp
I've been to a few different shows at the Alley Theatre, and it's usually a good time! First, parking is reasonably OK - there's a parking garage connected with the theatre, so that's pretty convenient. It definitely gets crowded at certain points (so it sometimes takes forever to get out of the garage after a performance!), but parking is reasonably priced and everything generally feels safe, so I can't complain too much. The theatre itself is reasonably sized and contains at least a couple of different stages. I've only seen performances on the upper level (larger) stage, so the rest of my review is based on those experiences. After getting your tickets and heading upstairs, you wait around for a while for the theatre to open so you can be seated. There are some refreshments (and free water!) available to entertain you, and there are plenty of people milling about and chatting. In case you need to get rid of some of that water, the (men's) bathroom is quite large, but there are also usually a lot of people hanging around, so it can get pretty busy at times (especially during intermission!). After a while, you're finally allowed to enter the venue :) The seating is set up reasonably well so that even if you have a pretty cheap seat, you can usually see most of what's happening on stage. The seats are comfortable, although there are no drink holders (I guess you're not supposed to eat or drink in the theatre, so I can see why that's the case). The performances tend to start pretty close to on time, although sometimes I feel like a given show is slightly delayed. My one critique of this place is that I just don't find most of the plays that interesting. They did a Steve Martin play (Picasso at the Lapin Agile) that I thought was pretty mediocre, and they also did a play based on a Hitchcock film called the 39 Steps (well, I guess the Hitchcock film was based on a John Buchan novel, but I definitely didn't know that before seeing the play) that was pretty underwhelming too. There have definitely been good choices as well (I really enjoyed the Freaky Friday musical that they put on, and the recent Sherlock Holmes play was entertaining and had quite a few twists!), but there are enough duds that I can't give the place 5 stars. This is a knock on the plays and NOT the actors, who tend to be pretty good in everything. Overall, I think Alley Theatre is a great place to spend an evening! Just make sure that the play you're seeing seems interesting and has good reviews :)

Yelp
I am not a huge theatre fan, in fact I usually catch a nap during most plays... but I was pleasantly surprised at the experience at Alley Theatre! I loved it!! With a small venue, there really isn't a bad seat in the place - I'm confident any ticket would give you a great show. We were a few rows from the stage on the side, and enjoyed being up front for the action. The play moved quickly and was packed full of great acting - the characters really bring this classic Christmas story to life with an outstanding performance. You can purchase a glass of wine or beverage before and during intermission. Pay in advance to have your cocktail waiting when the play pauses for a break, it will save you time! Don't be late, doors will close with or without you. And dress for a great family photo - the venue was decorated with Christmas trees of every kind, perfect for your family Christmas Card. You can dress up or casually and fit in just fine. Absolutely come support this local theatre production! Our first time to see The Christmas Carol will not be our last. It was a fun family evening full of the Christmas spirit.

Yelp
Lovely venue especially at Christmas time with all the decorations. My friend had paid for parking online for a show around Hurricane Harvey. Due to the Hurricane, she was able to reschedule to see a different show so we went to see a Christmas Carol. She printed out and brought her parking pass purchased for the original show, but which said valid for 1 year after purchase date. This printed parking pass was not honored by the underground parking garage across the street (underneath Jones Plaza). They made her take a ticket and pay $12 for parking. Upon going to will call to retrieve the tickets, she told them about her parking pass and how the garage did not honor it. Alley Theatre gave her a full refund! Thank you!

Yelp
Last night Was my first time attending a show at the Alley. This theatre is very small but I love the layout and the intimacy of its theatre. I was seated in section 4 and my view was amazing. I was there to see Satchmo at the Walfdorf and throughout the show I was able to see the actor's expressions and body language clearly. The theatre seating is comfortable and theatr is well kept. The stage set was amazing. I'm not sure if the ushers are volunteers or paid staff but they are very friendly and welcoming. I have paid for three shows at the Alley this year so I will be back in a few months and I cannot wait!

Yelp
This was my first time back since the major renovation. Houston is renowned for our fine arts and the Alley Theatre does not disappoint! Any time of the year you can catch a play at this beautiful intimate theatre. And every holiday season they showcase A Christmas Carol which is an Alley tradition! I am happy to say than after the renovation they have plethora of women's restrooms and it's quite nice inside! Admire costumes worn in previous plays and artifacts from previous sets which are displayed outside throughout the lobby. This theatre has so much history. There is not a bad seat in the house as the theatre is extremely intimate. You don't need to stretch your dollar for the first few rows. You'll see everything from the back row as well. I was amazed at the last show I saw "Let he Right One In" - Superb acting and definitely top notch!!!! My only complaint was that patrons were covering their ears because the sound system was obviously too loud and some of the mics seemed to echo at times. I've never had that issue at the Alley before. Maybe it was on off night. I highly recommend an evening of culture at the Alley and see what Houston has to offer!

Yelp
A great venue for seeing plays! I have seen more plays than I can count at the Alley. I completely agree with a recent reviewer who said there isn't a bad seat in the house. Definitely true! I often get dinner within a block and then walk over for the show. There are two bars so you can get a drink before or during intermission. Bathroom lines move pretty fast too. There are two different stages on which productions are done. I really like the place, but I do often feel like I'm the youngest person there. I'm not sure if I just happen to go on furlough night from the nursing home, but it does feel like that often. There are several parking options around the Alley. Check for free street parking before you pay a bunch of one of the garages.

Yelp
This place is awesomesauce wrapped up in a clever package - and I like that. They put on clever, unique shows for my amusement. The David Sedaris adaptation of his Holiday Elf stint at Macy's was unique. A Behanding in Spokane was incredible - so well done. And I have seen many other shows here over the years. I will keep coming back. This is something you must come to know if you live in Houston OR you are just here on a short trip. Pick up some tickets and come check it out!

Yelp
A Christmas Carol has been a tradition for us for several years. We went last week & were surprised by the changes to the story. The actors were amazing as always, but where was Scrooge's maid?? What do puppets have to do with it?? The story was choppy, scenes didn't flow, just terrible. If it's the same production next year, we won't be back.

Yelp
One of my regrets in life (I don't have many as missing out on a play is one of them..either that or I must be a visual and performing art lover..) is that I didn't find the time to see a two part, simultaneously happening play at the Alley. House and Garden. That was the name of the two plays. House and Garden. Actresses/Actors would walk off stage in one hall and walk onstage in the other hall. Hubbard and Neuhaus, Neuhaus and Hubbard. Brilliant. Oh, I've just remembered another regret. I never made it to any of the 2002-2003 season when they celebrated Edward Albee's works and Jean Stapleton starred in A Trip to Bountiful. Actually, every year that I don't make it to the Alley, is a misspent year. Creativity not being absorbed into my grey matter. The building, inside and out, is gorgeous and flowing. There are round balconies overlooking downtown Houston. The stairs amble through the lobby, stopping occasionally and spread out a bit into floors, then continue outside. Hubbard is spacious and small. It has a thrust stage. Basically, it's easy to completely slip into and get lost in the center of the play, no matter where you're sitting. Neuhaus is...well, I've never seen a play in there. (I know.) Go here. Absorb, amble, wander, gaze, slip, and get lost. Then do it all over again.

Yelp
Consistently outstanding theatre. What a blessing to have them here in Houston. Recent excellent examples include Clue and Lend Me A Soprano, both of which were clever, well-acted, and side-splittingly hilarious. We have been going here for years and virtually always find the experience incredible. Highly recommended.

Yelp
When purchasing tickets online, DO NOT get the prepaid parking option and park underground across the street. Their scanners do not work and they refused our vocher because it was not printed on a WHOLE sheet of paper even though the barcode and all the information was there. When I question them on why the bottom half blank paper matters on redeeming the vocher they cannot explain. The superviser lady started shooting personal insults at me in front of my children. She asked my husband if I am his wife and felt sorry for him. She asked the cashier to take picture of our license plate, hinting she will do something to our parked car. We are polite and friendly people just trying to park, why are they so rude we do not know. The Christmas Carol show and Alley Theater is wonderful. They scan my phone for our show tickets with no problem.

Yelp
I surprised the family with tickets to see Agatha Christie's, "The Mousetrap," last night. It was magnificent! I hadn't been to the Alley Theatre in ages and the renovations seem really nice! The lighting and colors around the theatre are really pleasing. There isn't a bad seat in the place, if you ask me.
