On the Grid : Allpress Coffee

"Located in the industrial-chic backstreets of Collingwood, Allpress Espresso brings their unique hot air coffee roasting technique to Melbourne customers. The once old factory site has been converted into part roastery, part cafe, part exhibition space with Allpress Studio upstairs; an innovative hub where designers, artists, and brands who share their passion for good design and art can showcase work through exhibitions and events in the heart of the community. Serving a beautiful selection of food (try their mixed plates) and coffee which has literally been roasted next door, used at precisely the right time – the resulting cup is always to die for. The space being beautiful and lovingly-architected makes for a fantastic backdrop to any casual meeting during the week or a chilled out brunch location on a Saturday." - Studio Fellow

Not impressed at all, Allpress Collingwood. I waited 15 minutes for a takeaway coffee, completely unacceptable in a busy area like Collingwood. Clearly, your ticketing or order system is not working. When I followed up with the staff at the counter, the barista had to dig through a pile of paperwork to find my order and only then said, “I’ll do it now.” Meanwhile, customers who came in after me were served within 3 minutes. There was no apology given, neither from the barista nor from the manager, who walked around the café with a dismissive attitude, offering no acknowledgment or accountability. It felt like no one cared. To make matters worse, the coffee I waited so long for was bitter and cold. I ended up throwing it out. Fifteen minutes wasted for something undrinkable. What a complete waste of time, money, and effort. This delay made me late for a Microsoft Teams meeting, and the experience left me feeling frustrated and disrespected. In a place like Melbourne, especially Collingwood, where great coffee and good service are everywhere, Allpress needs to do better. If your business model doesn’t cater to customers on the go, and your staff can’t offer basic courtesy or quality, I’ll gladly take my business to another roaster that values its customers. Allpress, I’m not impressed, and you’ve lost a loyal customer.

Can’t believe this gem has been hiding in our backyard for so long. Went here for breakfast this morning and was amazed at how nice the setting was. Tranquil cafe hidden behind the industrial streets of Collingwood. Coffee was perfect as to be expected from the Allpress brand, and surprisingly the pastries were insanely good (Lune croissant level good). Will definitely be coming back now I know about this place!

Really nice leafy cafe next door to the Allpress coffee roasters. There’s the usual delicious Melbourne food offerings, and of course really good coffee. Quite large outdoor seating in their quiet courtyard or some smaller indoor tables to choose from.

Allpress Coffee Roastery also have their own cafe for breakfast and lunch. I grab my morning coffee and their beans pretty good coffee, rate Street parking can be challenging but not impossible a short distance walk from spaces near by. Eat in or takeaway: Plenty of seating options inside and outside sun or shade. Food: Pasties, sandwiches, croissants, overnight oats, chia pudding Drinks: strange love sodas, orange juice, coffee in a can 10/10 will eat here again

An oasis amidst the razorbacks providing sanctuary, food & an exceptional long black! We found this place by chance yesterday & it’s too good not to share. Beautiful garden courtyard & great staff as well as their own roast. When I order a long black, this is what I want, rich earthy golden crema, that also happens to taste excellent. Bravo 👏

Had a flat white and it was decent with a mild coffee flavour, strong enough so it was not milky. However there was too much foam on top when I took the first few sips, probably due to the tall shape of the cup.

Ali Espresso is tucked down a street you don’t want to miss! Once you find it, you’re greeted by a sunny, vibrant courtyard with plenty of outdoor space and great vibes. It’s the perfect spot to relax for an hour and enjoy your coffee. Their magic coffee was on point—rich, smooth, and perfectly balanced. Whether you’re catching up with friends or just chilling solo, this place has an awesome, laid-back atmosphere. Highly recommend checking it out!

Yelp
Allpress have been here offering simple cafe fare for about a year now and yet the crowd is relatively small despite what is a bright an airy space, an incredibly good value menu and great coffee made with beans that are roasted in front of your very eyes (the warehouse can be spied through gigantic glass walls). Why? Because you will need to step away from the buzz of Smith Street and go deeper in to the industrial areas of Collingwood. I paid a visit with my favourite +1 for a weekday breakfast and we left satisfied. There's dozens of tables inside and more again outside, and I pictured myself spending a couple of hours here lazing with newspapers or working on my laptop. The interior is Nordic-warehouse chic and felt rather calming. Breakfast was a mixed plate of goodies - boiled egg, goat cheese, tomato, pickles. Served with a plate of mixed Brasserie Bread it was nice to mix and math flavours. It actually defeated me and next time we would probably share (two platters between three would be ideal). The rest of the menu is simple (sandwiches at lunch), but sometimes that's what you need, rather than tricked up hipster combos. Venture in to the back streets of Collingwood and you will be rewarded.

Yelp
Nice space, love the outdoor courtyard area and the fact that the roastery warehouse is right there next to you. The food and service on the other hand is well below par. Waited far too long to be served, and once we ordered, waited far too long for the very basic meals we'd ordered. Also copped a lot of attitude from the girl at the til for no real reason other than we'd asked if they did split bills - no, okay that's fine, rudeness unnecessary. Considering it wasn't very busy during lunchtime everyone in our party of 4 left without positive impressions.

Yelp
Nice outdoor area and friendly staff. As a roastery you'd expect great coffee and they deliver on this, although there is no chai on the menu which is disappointing for non-coffee drinkers. The breakfast menu is limited, but I really liked the eggs and soldiers I ordered.
