Alma del Pacifico, Playa Esterillos Este, near Quepos, Costa Rica - Explore & Book

"This is an ideal spot for the restful part of your trip to Costa Rica. There are attractions within easy reach: Manuel Antonio National Park, zip-line adventures, horse riding, surfing, and boat tours through the mangroves. But the real appeal of being here is to lie back in a hammock and gaze at the waves breaking on this magnificent beach. The resort was originally designed by an architect and painter couple, who wanted to reflect Costa Rica’s colourful culture. They called it Xandari By The Pacific, and for many years it was a beloved beach retreat among discerning independent travellers. Purchased in 2011 by Rock Resorts, it still maintains the atmosphere of luxury and privacy in a completely relaxed setting, without any pretension. It works well for both families and couples on a romantic getaway, with 20 spacious villa-like rooms in a post-modern Californian style, and lush tropical gardens right on an incredible stretch of oceanfront; there's also a rejuvenating spa and an above-average restaurant. When the sun starts to sink, go for a stroll along the wide, glassy sands, then order a mojito from the bar and watch the spectacular sunset. Highs A tremendous location on one of Costa Rica’s finest beaches: endless smooth sand, no rocks and great surfing - yet few people!A relaxed atmosphere, with fabulous light bouncing off the Pacific Ocean and a tempting range of spa treatments designed to soothe and restoreBright, luxurious and spacious rooms - all with private terraces, iPod docks and sofabeds (useful for families), most with ocean views, and some with private plunge poolsTasty, healthy food in the romantic restaurant, with plenty of local ingredients and sustainable seafoodJust 45 minutes from Manuel Antonio National Park: see the wildlife and return to the peace of the beach Lows This part of the Pacific coast is not Costa Rica’s top attraction, and there's little nightlife in the area apart from seedy Jacó - but the main point is to relaxTaxis can be ordered, but if you want to explore outside the resort, you'll probably need to rent a carThe pool area can get a bit noisy (there are separate pools for children and adults, but they sit next to each other). However, the rooms are quiet, and the vast beach offers solitudeRates include a continental breakfast only; if you want hot options, you’ll have to pay a bit extraThe ocean here is only safe for swimming when the tide is coming in (you'll find a tide timetable in your room)" - Christabelle Dilks

We loved the colorful aesthetics and architectural design of this hotel. It made us feel happy and comfortable. The beach was stunning and clean. The staff was friendly and very helpful after we were robbed near Jaco. Our massages were good. We loved the open showers and option to have a curtain outside the big windows. The food was decent - not the best of Costa Rica but satisfactory. Cocktails were great. Pools were great. Very relaxing and felt private and calm, even with kids there. Loved doing yoga in the grass by beach, and long walks morning and night on beach. Some outdoor chairs rundown but not a big deal. Overall we loved Alma and would definitely return. We thought it was well-priced for what it offered.

Beautiful hotel. The cabins have an outdoor shower in a garden with total privacy. The rooms are beautifully decorated, clean and comfy. The kitchen is very good and the staff are all lovely. I have only one complaint and it is very easy to fix.... Breakfast menu does not offer a true Tico breakfast which should include eggs, Gallo pinto, plantains and sour cream. Bacon is okay and liked but many of us prefer the real thing. Alma and her guests would be better served with a choice. But the place is very nice.

Alma del Pacifico was a delight to stay at. When my wife and I first got there, we were a little lost as the front lobby is literally a desk. Somehow, we missed the little bell to ring for service and just kept on walking until we got to the restaurant and got turned around to where we needed to be. Karolina, the hostess, got us checked in and took us to our villa. We had a "Garden Villa" at the far end of the resort. It was quiet, but if I have any regret, it was that we didn't spring for the upgrade to get a beach-front villa as most were empty during the time we were there as it was in October during the rainy season and thus the slower tourist season in Costa Rica. What that did mean was that we had the whole place practically to ourselves. There were a couple other guests, but we hardly saw them and our time walking up and down the beach was done in solitude. It was wonderful. In pictures, I imagined the beach to be a little coarse and rough but the sand was so smooth and fine that it was wonderful to spend time on. Even walking in the rain was pleasant since it never really got cold. The restaurant staff was wonderful. Freddie, Angie, and the rest of the terrific people there were patient with my Spanish and helpful in meeting our needs. The food was great and the breakfast was plentiful. Our room, although it wasn't a beach-front villa, was spacious and comfortable. The bed was a little hard for my wife, but perfect for me. The indoor/outdoor shower was a nice touch. Thank you to Alma del Pacifico for making the middle part of our Costa Rica trip a comfortable one.

Wonderful colourful. Wonderful beautiful.|See for yourselves: here are our over two dozen new 360-degree photos. Some might call it "brightly colorful," others perhaps "Central American vibrant," we say "wonderfully retro." Even though it's reminiscent of an 80s disco, you can tell it's only about 20 years old. It's also incredibly well-maintained, with perfect paintwork. Everything else is great too. Very spacious rooms (unfortunately, we accidentally booked two queen beds instead of one king). Our bungalow was right on the beach, with a lovely garden in front of the terrace. The sound of the ocean was constant. The bathroom with its shower (and double vanity) is the highlight. There's a separate drinking water tap. Coffee and tea are provided. The service was very friendly, both on days when we were practically the only guests and on other days. Breakfast is served à la carte, with a selection of about 10 options. Delicious and plentiful. (But be aware, additional items are available for an extra charge). The à la carte dinner is also very well done (and not more expensive than usual for the region). Yes, it's not a tourist center, a rather sleepy little town, but that's exactly what we were looking for: peace and quiet on the miles-long beach. Plus, it's only an hour's drive to Manuel Antonio.

We have stayed at the hotel several times and enjoy it very much. Unfortunately, for our upcoming trip in February, I have emailed the hotel several times to confirm the not insubstantial deposits but have not received a response. I called several months ago and the clerk indicated that only the manager could respond. Needless to say, I have never heard from the manager. Perhaps the hotel will see this message and respond.

We loved the grounds. The Garden is amazing, lovely pools, great bar and restaurant área. Our seafront room was huge and very pleasant The shower was unlike Anything id seen before. Breakfast does not impress as much as the b rest of the experience and seawater is a bit too rough to be enjoyed. Would return, nonetheless

What a beautiful hotel Alma del Pacifico is! The hotel is so colorful, thoughtful, and sits on a beautiful beach!! I highly recommend visiting this hotel. The rooms are large and very accommodating. There is so much privacy. The beds are very firm. The breakfast is included and has a lot of options. They also have 2 for 1 happy hour. I would definitely come here again!
