"Uruguay’s certainly a hot spot, but its capital city, the historic port of Montevideo, doesn’t often get the attention it deserves. Most travelers blow right through it on their way to Punta del Este and the stylish beach getaways down the coast. Alma Histórica Boutique Hotel, in the heart of Montevideo’s Ciudad Vieja, is enough to make you want to stay in town for a night or three. Apart from being an elegant place to sleep, this fifteen-room boutique provides something of an introduction to Uruguay’s history and culture." - Tablet Hotels

Our stay here was fabulous! The staff were so friendly and helpful. Our room was very spacious and adorable. The breakfast was one of the best hotel breakfasts we’ve had. We really enjoyed going up to the rooftop to watch the sun set. Unfortunately, the hot tub was closed on our stay, but otherwise everything was great! We were walking distance to lots of great restaurants and sites, would recommend for anyone visiting Montevideo!

What a fantastic hotel only 15 rooms all individually named. Used to be an old mansion house and all the charm and history has been preserved. Manager / owner, Nelson and his staff could not have been more helpful and would definitely recommend the hotel. Self help breakfast on a brilliant old fashioned side cabinet.

Immaculate, small boutique hotel just a short walking distance from the centre of Montevideo. A few restaurants and bars close by.|Lovely room, very comfortable and clean, large bathroom with walk in shower.|Hotel has a small roof terrace with wonderful views of the surrounding area.|Breakfast is served in a small dining room which was a little cramped if all the tables were occupied, but the food was great and cooked to order, along with a good selection of hams, cheese, fruit and pastries.|There’s bar service, or you can take drinks to your room.|The staff were very friendly, helpful and attentive, nothing was too much trouble.

Beautiful themed boutique hotel in the middle of the old town, not too far from the ferry. We loved our room, which was styled after the Uruguayan painter. Great-sized, comfortable bed, excellent shower. Enjoyed the view from the rooftop. Very kind staff - thank you for your helpful suggestions about the local restaurants. Good breakfast. The wifi in the room is a little spotty but it is understandable given the thickness of the walls of this historical building. We enjoyed our internet in the library on the second floor :) Thank you!

The hotel itself was an incredible bargain. Located in the Ciudad Viejo section of Montevideo, it is near numerous sites of interest for tourists such as the Mecado del Puerto, Teatro Solís and much more. The area does shut down after sunset and at that time requires some awareness of which areas are safe. | The rooms themselves are a highlight with each literally having its own personality. Each room is named after a famous Uruguayan and is decorated to match, sometimes including actual historical artifacts. A true treat for those that want to learn about the city they're visiting. We spent several nights in the "Doña Juana" and one night in the "Don Carlos." Each room featured the required a small safe deposit box, very pleasant bathrooms, and a balcony that made us wish we had more time to stay in the hotel itself. The Don Carlos was particularly beautifully decorated to showcase the life of famed Tango singer Carlos Gardel. | The staff were even better than the rooms. It was our first time in Montevideo and we had numerous requests for information and some out of the ordinary assistance. They were very generous with their time helping us navigate the city. We were allowed to leave our luggage while spending a few days at an estancia in the countryside, permitted us to get a delivery from online shopping, and even helped us arrange to have our clothes cleaned locally. They handled themselves in a very professional and gracious manner. | The included breakfast was light but of outstanding quality featuring fresh, local products. The only problem is that it was so nice that I felt guilty about eating too much of it. || My only suggestion was that they should have a room for "Don Álvaro Pintos". I can understand why they would ignore this slightly unusual suggestion but with the world famous Uruguayan group giving a local concert in December it might be a wonderful opportunity for a little cross promotion if they at least had a temporary room such as the "Cuarto del Cuarteto (de Nos)". || Long story short, a great hotel. I would love to stay again and would highly recommend for anyone wanting to explore the Ciudad Viejo area of Montevideo.

This was such a lovely hotel with impeccable service. Although staff is minimal, every one of them went far and beyond to help us with anything that we needed. The included breakfast was so tasty and sumptuous that it will be missed! Yes, it’s an older building but it is very well maintained but because it is older there are very minor plumbing issues. The neighborhood may appear sketchy at first but we didn’t run into any trouble. The hotel is close to museums, plenty of coffee shops/restaurants and shopping. The front door to the hotel is kept locked at all times. I would love to come back again.

The staff is absolutely wonderful and helpful. Room was super clean (bring your own shampoo). Lots of television channels. One of the highlights of Montevideo is walking around "Mercado del Puerto," which is only a short walk away from the hotel. The breakfast was nicely done.

I cannot say enough good things about the location of this hotel. Convenient for exploring the old town and the port market, this very boutique stay is a perfect fit. Wonderfully helpful staff and a very fair price. Greatly enjoyed this visit.
