Alma Hotel was honestly one of the most disappointing stays I’ve had. The first room we were given smelled strongly of fresh paint, so we had to ask for another. The second room didn’t smell, but it had indoor windows facing the corridor, so we had to keep them closed at all times. There were no real windows, the room felt dark and airless, and there was no wardrobe, just a couple of hangers.
At night, the room was extremely noisy — constant sounds from the heater or pipes, plus thin walls that let every noise through. It felt more like an overpriced motel than a hotel.
To make things worse, we had no hot water during our stay. The elevator is inside the emergency exit, which feels strange and unprofessional. The common areas don’t help either: the sofa in the hall and main entry is destroyed and very dirty, giving a terrible first impression.
Breakfast was another letdown. The cafeteria has almost nothing, and you’re not even allowed to sit unless you’ve already ordered at the counter.
The only positives were that the place was clean and the staff was friendly, but that’s nowhere near enough to make up for everything else.
The rooftop restaurant is genuinely excellent, but the hotel itself is awful. I’m giving it one star because there’s no option to give zero.
