Alma San Juan

We had an amazing one night stay following the SanSe celebration. The hotel’s staff were kind and hospitable given they just finished the biggest rush of the season. We stayed in a double Queen room. The rooms were immaculately clean and well ventilated. Rooms were stocked with Molton Brown toiletries. The rooftop plunge pool had an amazing 180 degree view of Old San Juan and the Castillo. The plunge pool was a little too cold for me, even under direct hot sunshine, I would have preferred some temperature control with that, that’s so minor, and it was still an enjoyable experience. The hotel really cares about attention to detail and hospitality. We had guava cookies and bottles of water waiting for us on our nightstand/bed after a quick walk through OSJ after checking in. Krystal and Claudio helped check us out and valeted our bags for us while we enjoyed every last bit of San Juan before we headed back to the airport. Krystal even went above and beyond by helping me with my friend’s bags when my friend had to run outside after an uber was re-routed around the small road in front of the hotel. The attached cafe also offers a nice selection of breakfast pastries and coffee.

Pros:|Location is excellent for exploring all of beautiful Viejo San Juan. The fortresses and coastal paths are also all within walking distance. |The hotel is very modern and comfortable, though take care with room selection. Some are very small and many only have tiny windows, high up close to the ceiling for daylight, no views and some only have light from the internal atrium. For views, visit the rooftop bar, restaurant and plunge pool area. |The staff are very pleasant and helpful. |Cons: |Very poor sound proofing between rooms and common parts. |The cafe provided adequate coffee and croissants but the service is hopelessly slow and inefficient. Much better breakfasts can be had at the cafes, next door on either side. |Caficultura is excellent for breakfast and brunch but closes at 3pm. Cafe Berlin on the other side is also good for breakfast and dinner, with delicious local Puerto Rican dishes at very reasonable prices. |Drinks at the Alma’s rooftop bar are expensive, as is the restaurant, which on our visit had a very limited selection, though the burgers and steak were excellent quality. |Most disappointing part of our stay was the hotel’s taxi service to the airport, a complete ripoff at $75 for a 20 minute journey. Use Lyft, or Uber, or take a taxi at the taxi rank on the square in front of the hotel. Lyft fare: $10.99. Such a shame, as the experience left a nasty taste in the mouth after such an enjoyable visit.

Only critique - room was small. Otherwise, well appointed, loved location and having fitness center. Rooftop deck and plunge pool were amazing. Wonderful service! Made great dinner reco at nearby place called La O. Pricey, but had great amenities and we were here before a cruise ( hello price surge). Would highly recommend!

I didn't stay at the hotel and just ate at the restaurant. The staff were excellent. Nice to see it. Not just your black and white service uniform. Laid back. My only challenge was that it was a little bit loud with music in the background so it was hard to hear the people that I was with without speaking really loud. The food is great although pricey. So if you're looking for a good night out, it's a good place to go. If you're looking for a regular hotspot, it's too expensive for that.

Location, staff and room were great. The interior of the hotel can get rather loud (you can hear people talking outside your room or opening/shutting hotel doors). I would recommend having earplugs or white noise.||||Rooftop is a beautiful view and the drinks are great. The plunge pool was refreshing and was a great view. Only issue is you will have to walk around/through the outside restaurant to get to the pool so make sure you have shoes/coverup.

Everything about Alma was amazing it’s a small place with big character. The rooms are so cute the only issue I had was with Valet service the guy was almost never there and I had to look for him and wait around. That was about it besides that rooftop was so much fun the aesthetics were great. I recommend this to anyone looking to explore viejo San Juan and want to stay within the area. I was there for NYE just a side note it was very fun. Tons of activities to do like a Photobooth.

We had booked our stay through a third-party platform and were unfortunately having a very difficult time obtaining a refund. Daniel stepped in immediately and did everything he could on his end to help us, and he made the entire process so much easier and less stressful. He was extremely kind, patient, and polite, and he communicated with us clearly and professionally throughout the situation. It’s rare to come across someone who genuinely cares and goes the extra mile for guests the way Daniel does. Because of Daniel alone, I will absolutely be staying at the Alma Hotel when I visit Puerto Rico. He is an incredible representative of the hotel and an awesome individual overall. In short, I had an excellent stay! |Ladies at the reception were friendly, check-in went smoothly.|Very beautiful and modern boutique hotel. Rooms are decorated in a modern minimalistic style yet have everything you need. ||The Mar y Rosa rooftop restaurant was amazing, with beautiful views and the cities Christmas decoration adding whimsical vibes!|Also, really gorgeous Christmas decoration throughout the hotel, loved it!

Great coffee. Fresh, warm pastries.pleasant indoor seating area, especially welcome when weather is very warm!

Estuve en el hotel dos noches y mi experiencia fue buena. El parking puede ser dificultoso pero hay garaje municipal cerca. Pude parquear justo al frente del hotel y usé Uber para llegar a Casa España para una boda y caminé de regreso porque era muy cerca. El manager del restaurante nos atendió súper bien y muy informativo. La comida riquísima. Alma Hotel es recomendable y volveré.

My partner and I booked 5 nights at Alma at the end of June. We had difficulty finding parking when we arrived due to some issues with the power grid and an abundance of cruise ship tourists. The staff recognized the difficulty and offer us a free room upgrade to a deluxe king suit with a balcony. The hotel itself is so well curated, from the art to the ambiance, no detail was left behind. I was also so impressed with the housekeeping. It was by far the most detailed housekeeping I've ever experienced. They even organized my makeup and skincare. There is also an AMAZING restaurant just on the roof with beautiful views of San Juan. I wish I could give this hotel a 6th star. Well done, Alma!
