Welcome to Almar, where the ambiance is dimmed and the wall mirrors are huge (and not just for taking selfies, I promise). Let's dive into the food and see what the chefs are cooking!
The Alfredo Meatballs made with Beef, Pork, and Veal were juicy and delicious in the tomato sauce. They were a solid choice for an anti-pasta/ appetizer, but I must say I still prefer the meatballs at the Meatball Shop where you can get 3 juicy meatballs for just $9. Don't take my word for it, and try both spots!
Next up, the Laganari pasta comes with Mussels, Clams, Shrimp, and seppiolina(I'm thinking cuttlefish) tossed in a bell pepper sauce was a good start, but the pasta was a little too al dente for our liking. It was almost like playing roulette with my taste buds, wondering if each bite would be cooked or borderline raw in the middle. But hey, at least the sauce was delicate and bright enough to stick to the freshly cooked pasta. The pasta reminded me so much of lo mein consistency, texture, weight and flavor.
Now onto the main event, the Pan Fried Stuffed Pork chops stuffed with Prosciutto, Fontina, topped with Truffle cream and served with a side of mashed potatoes. This dish was a symphony of rich, creamy, sweetness, and low lactose (for all my lactose intolerant friends out there). The only thing I would change is if the crust was a bit more Cwrispy(w intended), but that's just my personal preference.
And finally, the Rum Runner cocktail made with White Rum and Pineapple Juice was good and hit the spot. It's like a tropical vacation in a glass, but without the annoying sunburns and sand in your shoes.
Overall, Almar is a good spot for Dumbo restaurants serving a delicious meal with a fancy vibe. We were also offered to order ribeye steak, but I personally would like to sear the steak myself. Just be prepared for a bit of a gamble with your pasta.
