Almare All-Inclusive Resort, Isla Mujeres Review

"Marriott Luxury Collection’s first all-inclusive property on Isla Mujeres opened in November and was named to Travel + Leisure’s 2025 It List for new hotels. Perched on the island’s quieter southwest coast, the resort emphasizes serenity and sunset views rather than the high-energy Riviera Maya scene, and guests arrive via a 25-minute catamaran transfer from Cancun. Its 109 light-filled rooms and suites lean on local materials and techniques—plastered chukum walls, travertine baths, broad balconies and seven duplex suites with private plunge pools—while a 1,485-square-foot presidential suite provides an oversized marble bar for entertaining. Dining is spread across seven à la carte venues: the main restaurant, Boga, showcases elevated Mayan and Yucatecan flavors (notable dishes include papadzules, a short-rib chilmole, and hands-on tikin xic grilling at sunset), supplemented by Botanik café, a rooftop Seasalt, a beach palapa bar and a casual food truck. A robust activities program—dock yoga, daybreak walks to Punta Sur, catamaran excursions, kayak use, visits to the Underwater Museum of Art and Isla Contoy, golf-cart rentals, and weekly sunset barbecues—keeps the experience active and culturally focused. The large spa offers hydrotherapy circuits, shaman consultations and distinctive treatments using volcanic glass and activated charcoal; sustainability measures include recycled beams, LED lighting, water-saving HVAC, Tetra Pak drinking water and refillable bottles. Practical details: one ADA-certified room is available, two pools (rooftop and beach with a swim-up bar) and nightly rates start around $774, with Marriott Bonvoy benefits and point bookings available." - David Shortell David Shortell David Shortell is a journalist based in Mexico City. Isla Mujeres Travel Guide

Interiors feature woodwork and marble, communal spaces highlight local materials, and the rooftop restaurant—under a soaring palm-thatched canopy—plus a westward orientation make it particularly appealing for sunset watching." - David Shortell David Shortell David Shortell is a journalist based in Mexico City. The staff and hotel have been excellent since my wife and I set foot on the property. Breakfast and lunch have been our favorite meals with plenty of options, but dinner provides many succulent options with choice cuts and delicious pastas along with Mayan inspired cuisines. Moon at the concierge along with Noel have been most helpful in arranging outings or activities within the hotel. Daniel does a great job in the cooking classes, and Jasson and Karen make sure you always have a drink in your hand beachside. Elliott and Amaury have been great up at the roofisde SeaSalt. It has been a most relaxing and enjoyable vacation for us. As a Marriott titanium member, I feel I have not encountered as much value for my hotel spend in a long time.

The resort is beautifully, simply decorated and clean. A very peaceful, tranquil setting. The service was amazing- everyone was so helpful and friendly and attentive. The yoga over the water with Marisa was wonderful. The food is very healthy and delicious. You don’t have to sign for anything and tipping was not expected but was appreciated I felt. It was not crowded at all (high season starts next week I heard). Zero problems getting comfy chaise lounges on beach at any time. Spa was incredible.

As I start planning where to take my wife this year, our trip to the new Marriott resort on Isla Mujeres (first week of November 2024) comes to mind. It really was a great getaway; however, it definitely had that “soft opening” feel where you could tell they just weren’t quite ready yet.||What we loved:|The adult-only atmosphere was perfect for relaxing, and the private boat transfer to the island was a fun touch that made the trip feel special right from the start. Our room was good, clean, and what I would come to expect from a Marriott property. Every staff member we met was friendly and tried hard to make our stay enjoyable, and the drinks were top-notch.||Where it sadly missed the mark:|You could tell they were short-staffed and still training, so service was a little slow at times. The hotel website listed the wrong hours for bars and restaurants, and the food selection was really limited. They boasted five different restaurants, but they had only one spot for lunch with just a handful of menu options and two restaurants for dinner. No daily specials, and if you didn’t already know to ask for off-menu dishes or just be willing to ask for something different, you would never know there was an option. We ended up walking to the pizza place on the island for dinner one night, and it turned out to be more fun than expected.||One of the things we really appreciated was the educational events they hosted throughout the week. Those were a pleasant surprise, fun, hands-on, and interactive. You could tell the team put real thought and effort into making those experiences engaging. Entertainment at night was also pretty quiet, mostly an empty attempt at dancing or a musician playing for the dinner crowd.||A few details made it obvious they opened too soon: public bathroom lights on motion sensors would turn off while my wife was in there (not ideal!), and a few restrooms didn’t even have toilet seats yet. The pools were ice cold on our 1st day, but on the 5th day they had warmed up. On our last day, they finally rolled out a cute little camper setup for the beach restaurant, but it never opened while we were there.||Bottom line:|This resort has so much potential; the location, the views, and especially the staff are all amazing. But when we visited, it just wasn’t quite ready for the “Luxury Collection” price tag or the Marriott experience you’d expect. I’m really hoping that by now they’ve had time to iron things out, because I’d love to go back and see it running the way it was meant to.

We stayed at this luxury resort to celebrate my friend's birthday and wow! Our entire stay was delightful from the ferry trip to the island and back. Our suite was spacious and super clean with a nice jacuzzi tub. We had a fully stocked refrigerator and cozy chairs on our balcony. There are no complaints with the staff at Almare. Everyone worked extremely hard to accommodate us. The meals were unique and tasty however it would've been nice if there were all day buffet options. Overall, I'd book again.

I recently stayed at Almare, a Luxury Collection Resort in Isla Mujeres, and it was one of the best travel experiences I’ve ever had. The resort is absolutely beautiful, with a calm and refined atmosphere that makes it easy to relax from the moment you arrive. Everything feels intentional, from the design to the materials to the way the light hits the ocean. The food and drinks were incredible. You can really taste the quality in every single thing they serve. Nothing felt cheap or watered down like at some other all-inclusive resorts. BOGA was perfect for breakfast with a great mix of fresh fruit, pastries, and cooked-to-order dishes. The Seasalt rooftop restaurant was the highlight of my stay. Dinner there felt special every night, both for the view and the creativity of the food. During the day, the pool bar became my favorite place to be. The service was quick, the food was fresh, and every drink was made with care. The people working at Almare are what make it truly stand out. Alan, the Food and Beverage Manager, went above and beyond to make sure everything about our stay was perfect. Karen, who took care of us while we were in the beach cabanas, was so sweet and attentive. And Rafael, the bartender, made every drink with such skill and energy that seeing him was always a highlight of the day. It’s rare to meet people who love what they do as much as this team does. I also went on a private kayaking tour with one of the managers, and it ended up being one of my favorite moments of the trip. Every manager I spoke with seemed genuinely invested in making the resort grow into something even better, which makes me excited to go back and see how it evolves. If I had to give one small critique, it’s that there is usually only one restaurant open for dinner each night. It didn’t take away from the experience at all, but it’s something to know if you like a lot of variety. The rooms were spacious, beautifully designed, and felt luxurious in every way. Every part of the resort feels new and cared for. As someone who usually stays at properties like the St. Regis or other high-end Marriott hotels, I can honestly say that Almare exceeded every expectation. It’s the kind of place where you feel looked after without ever feeling crowded or rushed. I can’t wait to come back.

I came to Almare for a solo travel experience, and I couldn’t be happier that I did. It’s a luxury all-inclusive with a boutique feel, and you don’t have to walk miles to get to the beach, which, by the way, is not affected at all by sargassum.||The resort offers complimentary round trip transfers from Cancun’s Renaissance hotel arriving directly to their dock without complications. ||The food was impressive, featuring menus with Mayan dishes and influences. Highlights included the soft-shell crab tacos, the kampachi ceviche, the ravioli at the rooftop restaurant, and yes, the burger at the side pool restaurant, which was to die for, especially with the truffle seasoned fries.||I joined a chocolate-making class, a yoga session, a Mexican spirits tasting, and a guided kayak tour on the west side of the island, making my stay a well-balanced mix of culture, mindfulness, and sports.||I also had a massage at the spa — it wasn’t the best of my life, but it was very good and helped me relax. The hammock in the relaxation area added an extra touch of unwinding, and they also have a cold plunge pool and a jacuzzi.||The cocktails were a highlight of my experience. This resort delivers libations that are truly tasteful, unique, and made with premium liquor. The coffee at Botanik was also very good, although service there could take a bit of time.||During my three-night stay, I also took some time to explore the island. I visited the southern part and the park featuring Mayan representations, and I spent an afternoon at Playa Norte, a stunning beach popular among both locals and visitors coming over from Cancún for the day.||I would come back without hesitation and bring someone special, as it’s a very romantic resort.

Gorgeous resort with top-notch service — food and amenities need a boost ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ (4/5) Almare Isla Mujeres is a stunning property that delivers exceptional service in a truly beautiful setting. The team members were consistently warm, professional, and eager to make our stay special. Our room was modern, spotless, and very comfortable, and the main pool area was lovely — the semi-heated water and calm turquoise ocean made it easy to relax and enjoy the view. The bartenders were also a highlight, offering skilled mixology, a strong liquor selection, and thoughtfully crafted cocktails. Where the experience fell short was in dining and amenity variety. The food presentation was beautiful, but the quality and selection were limited. With inky two restaurants, the breakfast, lunch, and dinner menus remained static and repetitive. The rooftop pool was much smaller than expected, with bar service beginning late in the day and inconsistent attention once open. Lastly, there were no general hot tubs unless you held elite status AND specifically requested access to the spa. Overall, Almare offers a first-class setting and outstanding hospitality — however, the food must be addressed to have the potential to stand out against the very best all-inclusive experiences.

Words cannot express how wonderful of an experience we had at Almare. ‘An all-inclusive luxury resort’ does not even begin to cover the level of service, friendliness, and general level of quality we felt from both the resort itself and all the members of staff. To start, the resort is picturesque and designed beautifully down to the smallest detail. We could not have been happier with the heavy Mayan & Mexican cultural influence on both the food (which was overwhelmingly top-tier), as well as the off-resort experiences with Noe (the cemetery sunset walk and the sunrise walk to Punta Sur). Reyes was amazingly patient with us during our first time paddle-boarding despite a very windy day, and encouraged us to come back out on a future day of our trip. The in-room turnover service was discreet and always provided us with more waters when we asked for it. Most importantly, Karen and Alejandro were the absolute best part of our trip. They made us feel welcomed from day one on the beach, as if we had been coming for years; and were happy to fulfill any request or give recommendations of their own when it came to food, drink, or otherwise. They were genuinely kind people who were happy to not just help us out on the beach but also answer any questions we had or hang out and have a great conversation if the afternoon was slow. The only downside to Almare is that we think it may have spoiled us for all other All-inclusives in the future! We will definitely be back, and we can’t wait for our next visit!
