The airport is modern and well-equipped with all the amenities you’d expect. Both check-in and arrival procedures were smooth and hassle-free. The only area that felt a bit underwhelming was the duty-free section, (but they had horse meat sausages) which was average compared to other international airports.

Spacious and quiet airport. Excellent for travelling to/from abroad. If you are looking for a prayer room (намазхана), there are two prayer rooms at the international terminal. Each намазхана has separate male and female sections, equipped with ablution area. One is located at the departure hall on Level 2 (landside) which is well signposted. Another one is located airside after the security clearance (well signposted).

Nice view of the Trans-Ili Alatau mountains. Food choices in the departure area after immigration for international flights has no good. There is I think 1 resto in the arrival area of international flights and a lot of small stalls in the arrival area of domestic flights. I like that much better. No long lines for check in and immigration.

Good organized medium- size airport. Easy check-in counters. Fast security inspection procedures. Friendly staff. The only drawback is that taxi drivers overcharge at the arrival gate (it is better to use riding apps). All major facilities are available. Nice view of the snow in the mountains.

What a scenic airport! Must visit in the day time as the snow capped peaks in the bright sunshine look marvelous. Nature's beauty at its peak. Very informative and easy to access. Helpful information from the helpdesk for foreigners. Hassle free boarding for international as well as domestic flights.

My knees got hurt before coming, the staff at the airport are welcoming and helpful. After a few days, when we traveled from Almaty to Tashkent, we didn’t check the tickets carefully and went to T1. The staff at the airport saw me with crutches, came me to offer help and arranged the wheelchair for me immediately. It has been great experience at the Almaty International Airport. Thank you!!🙏☺️

Beautiful airport, everything is so easy here. Not too big. Has coffee shop, restaurants and many more. Wifi could you access with KZ phone number or passport. You can buy sim card and found the atm, in arrival terminal.

Almaty International Airport (ALA) is Kazakhstan’s busiest airport and a key gateway to Central Asia. While it serves an important role in regional and international travel, the airport presents both strengths and weaknesses that shape the passenger experience. One of ALA’s standout features is its location—just 15 kilometers from the city center, making it easily accessible by taxi or private transport. The airport has been undergoing gradual improvements, especially after the opening of a new terminal to ease congestion. However, the older terminal still struggles with overcrowding during peak hours. Facilities at Almaty Airport are functional but limited. There are a few dining and shopping options, though they may not meet the expectations of international travelers used to larger hub airports. Security and immigration procedures can sometimes be slow, particularly during busy periods, but staff are generally professional. One major drawback is baggage handling, which has been a recurring issue for travelers. Delays in luggage arrival are not uncommon, and improvements in this area would greatly enhance the passenger experience. On the positive side, cleanliness and maintenance have improved in recent years. Overall, ALA is a functional airport that is gradually modernizing but still has room for improvement. As Kazakhstan continues to grow as a business and tourism destination, further upgrades—especially in efficiency and passenger comfort—will be crucial to keeping up with increasing demand. If traveling through Almaty, patience and planning ahead can help make the experience smoother.
