Spent six days at one of their rustic cabins along the Taylor river, and ate at the restaurant twice. Since we were there for longer than a typical weekend stay, we noticed things that others may not have seen. For the most part, it was a great time. First off, the cabins: We stayed at Cabin 10, Old Kentucky Home. It faces the Taylor river, not the highway. If you can help it DO NOT get a cabin facing the highway (look on Google Maps to see which ones are which). The highway noise is awful in those cabins. The ones facing the Taylor are less noisy, but you still hear the Gunnison-Crested Butte traffic start up fairly early in the morning. The sound of the river helps to drown out the traffic. The cabin is rustic, but comfortable. The doorknob on the front door is set in a way that you will bash a knuckle or several fingers into the door frame - hopefully only once. The kitchen was functional, with a relatively new electric stove and a new fridge. Pots and pans, dishes and silverware were adequate, but bring your own supplies such as salt and pepper, aluminum foil, ziplocks, etc. There is a microwave, but no toaster. The bed in the living area was awkward; it would have been a lot nicer to have a hide-a-bed couch there so that we could have a place to sit other than at the kitchen table. The lighting in the living/kitchen area was completely inadequate. I brought in a lantern in order to do the dishes. In the bedroom, the queen size bed was comfortable, the lighting was slightly better, and there was a closet for our clothes. The water heater in the bedroom was noisy at times, but we got used to it. In the bathroom, the shower was clean, water was abundant and bathroom was generally nice. No hair dryer. All in all, it was a nice stay in a rustic cabin, which is what we had expected when we got there. Now, to the restaurant - the food was epic! We only ate there for two breakfasts, and both were outstanding. The chicken fried steak is noteworthy, the breakfast burrito lasts through lunch. Please give the servers and cook (the owner was the only one cooking when we were there) a break - they are running ragged with a limited crew due to COVID. They are answering the lodge phone while trying to deal with takeout orders, and while trying to serve food on both the patio and the inside tables, all with limited staff. Instead of being aggravated with them, thank them for making sure they are following the required guidelines to keep you, and them, safe. And last, but not least, if you're there for fishing, (as we were), the Taylor river in front of the cabins, right before it joins the East River and becomes the Gunnison, yielded the best catches.
