I was really excited to stay at Aloft for our recent trip to Atlanta, and I'm disappointed to share that I didn't have the best experience. The downtown "Hotel District" location is centrally located to many areas and parking was a breeze, although approx. $32 per night during your stay. ||The staff was super welcoming at check-in and made it a breeze, especially since we checked in late at night after a long travel day. They kindly explained the parking situation, shared our parking pass, highlighted the morning breakfast options, and more. ||We headed up to the 7th floor for our room, and the colorful vibes were joyful. The room was quite spacious and had a great view facing out onto the city, modern aesthetics with comforting elements, and fun pops of bright pinks and chartreuse. The bathroom space was decent, with a sliding door separating the shower and toilet from the sink. Everything seemed relatively clean, although I always sanitize hotel spaces anyway. Call me silly, I've become accustomed to the welcome screen on the TV and was surprised to not have that on when we walked in, but not a big deal. What was frustrating was the presence of two vertical streaks of dead pixels on the screen, which wasn't ideal. ||We read the mixed reviews before booking, so I knew to take them with a grain of salt and give Aloft a chance. Sure enough, our stay could have been better in my opinion. At a high level, this Aloft location has all the aesthetics and makings of a great stay, but I kept feeling like... "it's just missing something -- or many things" -- when it came to the details. The Aloft brand is part of Marriott's Select category, and we've stayed in countless other Select-category hotels, like Fairfield, Courtyard, and even Residence Inn, which were more put together. It felt like Aloft had the fun and youthful aspirations of the W, but missed the mark on being refined enough to come close. Unfinished furniture corners, uneven fixture installs, uneven paint coverage in the bathroom, an ice bucket that looked like its from the dollar store, huge dents on doors and some broken door panels, (i.e., when we tried to enter the hotel through the parking lot side door because it was a rainy day but the card scanner was ripped off/broken). Simply more unfinished versus refined. ||For a two-night stay, the hotel was packed with sports fans for a major college bowl game and served as a comfortable landing spot for our weekend. Given its central location, modern vibe, and cost-effective options, it's understandable that it's a convenient choice. However, for our next visit to the area, I'll definitely be looking elsewhere.
