Aloft Harlem is in a convenient location in walking distance to the subway, stores, and restaurants. The staff was welcoming and the lobby and bar was nice. The rooms are small but functional. My only issue is the cleanliness of the room. The cleaning crew needs to do a much better job at this hotel. It was dusty and the bathroom needed a extra lift. Also, the hot water wasn't working but maintenance was sent up and fixed it (flipped the switch). Also, the light switches needs a serious electrical adjustment. I couldn't keep one light on without keeping another one so all the lights had to be on at the same time. Weird. I would return if I needed to be in the area again but will make sure to let the staff know about the cleaning issue.

I came here to have a few drinks and meet up with old friends and the bartender was very pleasant. She made our drinks very strong and kept them coming. Only issue was I wish they had something to nibble on while we were drinking. The patio area was a little dirty, and the fire pit wasn’t working so we were a little cold, but otherwise than that the experience was a 6/10

Google
A 3-star hotel that feels like a 4-star one. Despite the carpet in all rooms, it is clean and has the gym. The only downside is the location: it's slightly far from Midtown (just less than half an hour) and in a neighborhood where you need to stay alert, especially at night. However, the New York subway, although dirty, is super efficient, so the location disadvantage becomes secondary. Mai at the front desk has been attentive to our requests and very nice and friendly, like the rest of the staff. For those who want to avoid spending a fortune in Times Square or nearby, I recommend it.

Google
Unpleasant Front Desk Experience I was deeply disappointed with the front desk staff at this hotel. They were rude, unhelpful, and dismissive. Their attitude made the check-in process unnecessarily stressful, and they were unwilling to offer solutions. A hotel stay should be welcoming, but unfortunately, the customer service here was far from hospitable. I would not recommend this property unless they improve their staff training and commitment to guest satisfaction.

Google
Location wise super handy. Close to central park. Express metro brings your quickly down to Midtown or even more south. Rooms are cool designed but not in a good shape. Definitely need some hard cleaning or new colors. Fitness Center is in the basement.

Not a bad stay if you have proper expectations. WARNING: if you use their valet parking, let them know at least 30 minutes before you need your car. They told me twice that it would take about 20 minutes and it took closer to 45. The room was good, just expect to hear sirens outside every so often. 5 min walk to 125 subway station which is convenient and can get you down to West Village in 20 min.

We arrived at ALoft Harlem on Saturday, July 27th, at 10:00 pm, only to be greeted by an extremely crowded and noisy event in the lobby, entrance, and even on the street. Upon reaching the reception, we were informed that our room was not ready and were given the option to either cancel our reservation without penalty or wait 1.5 hours for it to be cleaned. After waiting the full 1.5 hours, we were given a room that was half-cleaned and had a bad odor. Additionally, the safety box was not functioning. To top off our frustration, aside from a simple apology, we were given a mere $20 voucher as compensation. The receptionist was shouting at everyone, adding to the unpleasant atmosphere. The next day, when we returned to our room, we found that while the towels had been replaced, the room had not been cleaned and the bed was left unmade. Although the hotel is well-located, the service has been atrocious. The hallways also smell bad, contributing to an overall humiliating experience. I do not recommend this hotel. Please do not come here.

Yelp
This is a great hotel with quality staff - especially Paula and Vincent at the front desk! They made our trip so special!

Yelp
Centrally located in Harlem, close to 125th street metro station. Inside ok but did not get blown away. Extremely loud air conditioning. Missed old fashioned ironing board. Staff moderately interested in taking care of their guests.

Yelp
Room Quality: 7/10 Amenities: 5/10 Service: 8/10 This is a solid 3-star hotel located in the heart of Harlem on one of the filthy but subway-accessible 125th street. It's clearly designed for short-term, no-frill business stays, so don't expect luxury, ambiance or anything beyond the essentials. There were many things I did NOT love: * Poor internet speed. Doubt you could have a video call or conference here. Couldn't even get through a single episode of Yellowjackets without buffering 10x. * Smells like an old man who drinks and smokes in the elevator and hallways * Our room has a terrible metal bed frame next to the metal AC. Those two pieces of metal next to each other = constantly stubbing my leg, ankle, and toes. Awful! * The gym has basic, essential equipment but is poorly maintained. And a few things I did appreciate: * Good service overall - The front desk attendants always greeted me (and one even gave me some free food). The cleaning staff were also very pleasant and diligent with their jobs. I also appreciated how the staff didn't charge extra for packages shipped to the hotel that arrived before I did. * The in-room steamer works like a dream! * The coffee and tea provided by the hotel in the lobby is free and not terrible.

Yelp
Why 3 stars? Because why must the pillows be so small? --- --- --- I did not plan to stay in this hotel initially, but I ended up extending my stay in New York one night and this property made sense for me in terms of its location. I made the trek up from Midtown with my luggage and settled in for an impromptu second night in the city. When I walked into my room, I thought it smelled like maybe someone had smoked cigarettes in here at one point. Or maybe lit incense. Either way, it didn't bother me a ton, it was just a very obvious smell when I walked in. The bed was comfortable, but the pillows were so bizarrely small. I don't really know anyone that would purposely choose pillows so tiny that simply rolling over might cause you to "fall off" of one. So I lined them all up in a row to create an army of pillows aka one normal-length pillow. I survived this first-world crisis. I sleep with a fan for white noise, so I did appreciate that the A/C unit in this room had a constant hum. Only, it sounded a bit more like construction noise than a fan humming. Not the end of the world, but a word for the maintenance crew of the Aloft Harlem: that A/C sounds like it's struggling to get through the night. The shower was nice, but the water pressure left a lot to be desired. All-in-all, this hotel was fine for my very brief stay, but it's not one I'd be dying to come back to for a second visit.

Yelp
Unfriendly staff, dirty room and negative experience with reaponse from the general manager.

Yelp
honest review: went for a Yankees game, thank goodness we only stayed one night. the only good thing was the staff was courteous. carpet was nasty, old, run down, smelled of musty smoke. would not walk barefoot on the floor at all. needs paint at very least. Tiles chipped and grout dirty. The streets in front of hotel were disgusting. I heard this area was up and coming and would be alright. No it isn't. This property was the worst Marriot associated hotel I've been to. And a big down step for Aloft. Be aware and Im pretty easy to please normally.

Yelp
I've reviewed this hotel before. I travel for business and pleasure A LOT. I've stayed around 200 nights in Marriott hotels this year. I've stayed regularly at Aloft Harlem for the last (nearly) two years. As I've said, prices are reasonable for NYC. The Harlem neighborhood is bright and alive. Rooms are basic, but clean and comfortable. Housekeeping is wonderful. Because I'm a regular, everyone here knows me. Recently a new employee started, who did not know me. I introduced myself, explained I was a regular, and went about my routine. Two weeks later, I return and she remembers my name and my face. The staff who have known me longer have clearly told her I prefer corner rooms and I like a certain kind of wine. She said, "they told me you like . . . (Insert multiple things here)." I am impressed by the new employee who went out of her way to remember me, as well as the longer established staff, who clearly updated her on my preferences. And again, for the record, the staff here have always been friendly, down to earth, and welcoming. One more time: I've been staying here nearly two years. And I come back again and again because they are fantastic people.

Yelp
I just want to thank Malika and the whole Aloft staff for being so accommodating to my group I came with for a work trip. So incredibly helpful and kind. Thank you!! Legit the whole staff was just great.

Yelp
We came to this hotel for our daughter's graduation from Columbia University. Although it isn't that close to campus, it is the closest hotel to campus, and they were fully booked. Despite this, we consistently received efficient attentive service. Nasha at the the front desk was great and even remembered my name throughout our time there. We liked our stay so much that we extended it an extra night. I had read that the rooms facing the courtyard are quiet and that's what we requested and that's what we got! It was perfectly quiet.

Yelp
I stayed here while my son was visiting Manhattan School of Music. The location was great for him to walk to the school and for me to catch a train to other parts of the city for work or to meet up with friends. Our room was clean and comfortable, the price was reasonable, and the staff were helpful. I would stay here again for sure.

Yelp
Really great stay at Aloft Harlem on 10/29/22. We checked in at about 8:30pm and got a room on the 6th floor. The hotel was quaint but very clean and quiet. The reception at the front desk was pleasant and swift. Our room had a king size bed but was spacious enough for 3 people. We had a lovely stay with no qualms. There's also ample parking on the side of the hotel.

Yelp
The rates are good and the rooms are decent. Front desk staff were all extremely nice and friendly. We stayed here to be close to Columbia and it was walkable. Housekeeping services leave a lot to be desired. Out of five nights we had one good housekeeping experience where they made the bed, took out garbage, replaced towels, soap, free water bottle. I left a tip daily. They never vacuumed. Two days they did not make bed. One day they threw clean towels on the chair next to the unmade bed and they emptied the garbage and nothing else. One day they left us with no shower gel or bath mat or toilet paper. Our last day before checking out they were a complete no show.

Yelp
After a long day of travel from LA to NY with a sick 2 year old we arrived at @aloftHarlem. Due to filth we checked out a few hours after checking in for a 3 night stay. @aloftHarlem did NOTHING to accommodate my family.

Naji M.

Yelp
This was my second time staying at this hotel. The first time being before the pandemic. The second time was a bit cumbersome. My reservation was messed up (no fault of the hotel) Christopher sure made things easy and did everything possible to accommodate me. His pleasant demeanor was a breath of fresh air. Also had the pleasure to meet Keke at the bar and enjoyed some good drinks and good conversation. Although the hotel itself could use some updates. I would probably stay again. One day the shower drain had a terrible order. The staff sent an engineer immediately to fix the issue. The following day my fire alarm went off and I was told not to take such a hot shower. Not sure how the hot steam triggers the fire alarm, but okay. All and all it was reasonably priced and very close to a lot of restaurants and places to shop.

Yelp
Worst hotel experience. Should be called motel. Bathroom door would not shut. We were told it was made that way otherwise the mirror breaks. Who designed that? Sink wouldn't drain and would overflow if you didn't turn it off right away. Shower was dirty and smells like mold. Nothing to put amenities on in the shower. Shower gel, shampoo and conditioner bottles were all empty. Nothing to hang a towel up in the shower. The bathroom was so dark and I'm sure it's because they don't want you to see how really dirty it is. Water pools in bottom of shower up to your ankles and overflows into bathroom. Every time! Stark room without plugs or charging ports in room. I wouldn't use the coffee maker or anything because it was filthy. Carpet was stiff with dirt. Pillowcases didn't fit pillows and pillows were dirty and disgusting. This place is bad. I can't believe Marriott puts their name on this property. Stay away!

Yelp
Parking: no lot but they do have valet...not marked though, have to double park in a loading zone and tell the front desk Lobby: clean and modern, though very dark Bar: typical hotel bar, bar food only but went to get snacks at 6:45pm and the kitchen was closed??? Room: looks modern but after settling in very disappointing. The bed is so close to the AC unit that I crushed my ankle trying to get to the blind drawstring. The blinds only go down halfway so lots of light in the evening. There are no outlets next to the bed. Desk lamp is stationary with oversized bulbs (blinding). Signed up for the breakfast but it was bowls of funky foods...traded in voucher for points and went out to eat. Overall: I wouldn't stay here again.

Yelp
Terrible hotel. Do not stay here. Two stars for the vibe only. It has cool decor. However, the customer service is the worst. The Aloft has no room service. No turndown service. The carpet smelled like mildew, and the bathroom door was broken. At $300/nt, I would have expected much better. Like, I asked the front desk to have someone bring my Doordash to my room after I my twisted ankle. I told them the food had arrived. Instead, 45 minutes later, I hobble downstairs to retrieve my now cold burger and fries . On another night, I called the front desk to ask a question, and nobody answered. I'd seen the employees chatting with each other, snacking on fruit as I walked to the elevator. But no one answered the phone. Thirty minutes later, I went downstairs to see the same employees laughing and joking together. After confirming the phones worked, I asked my question and went back to my room. I have no problem with employees having fun at work, but at least do your job. Expecting the front desk to answer the phone is not a big ask at a Red Roof Inn, let alone a hotel like Aloft. This place was ruinous for all 5 awful nights I was there.

Colleen D.

Yelp
Extremely attentive and helpful staff. Rooms really small but clean. There is an elevator to get out of the building, but you can't use it to get in without a key card - very inconvenient. Parking only a block away is very convenient though.

Yelp
As a Platinum Elite member not only was the service & overall accommodations disappointing but the staff was incredibly incompetent. I was charged triple the price of of my 1 night (9 hour stay) in the city and was told it would be adjusted on the reservation. It wasn't. I've called numerous times and talked to multiple "Front Desk Managers" in the past couple months and today was the final straw. Asking to email my reservation confirmation & the folio of charges, I was told "too much time has passed so there's nothing they can do" about me being grossly overcharged. As a Marriott International Shareholder with status I was shocked at the negligence and lack of assistance with getting this resolved after providing documentation & multiple attempts to get this resolved. I will never patronize this hotel again. And to the "manager" James Velasquez who practically told me "oh well" I will be escalating this to the highest level until resolved due to the principle. If you stay here, check your charges before you leave the property, they will overcharge you and give you the runaround to refund it after acknowledging their accounting error.

Yelp
We stayed here for a night when in town for a college visit. We had reserved a room with two beds but when we checked in, there were none available. The staff was accommodating and gave us two rooms close to each other instead. The location of the hotel was great for our purposes. Very close to the college and even closer to the nearest subway stop and the renowned Apollo Theater. They conveniently have some basic food items and beverages for sale at the check-in area. Our rooms, while appearing well-appointed, were a bit unusual and in need of repair. For instance, the sliding door to the bathroom consistently hit the sink each time we opened it, which made it a little hard to actually open. Our daughter's room had little holes in various places along the seam connecting the wall with the floor. These minor things should be easily fixed.

Yelp
I stayed here for a work trip and found the customer service to be excellent. From check in to check out and the bartender at the bar during happy hour everyone was warm and helpful. After I had checked out I realized I had left my phone charger in the room. I returned a few hours later and several staff went out of their way to hunt it down for me. Room was clean and comfortable..overall a great stay in Harlem.

Jonathan L.

Yelp
We were in town for an event less than a mile away and this hotel was a great find. It was not cheap but beat out similar hotels on price, including some less convenient to our event. The staff was very friendly and helpful. The rooms were nice and decent-sized for Manhattan.

Yelp
I want to start by saying the staff here were professional and kind. I hate to do this but... I booked a reservation during the pandemic. At one time Harlem was my home but I temporarily relocated out of state and made a trip back. The hotel is supposedly smoke free but I kid you not I was moved to three different rooms. All THREE reeked of cigarette smoke. In fact when I stepped off the elevator the third floor smelled like weed. It was loud and offensive. Now I've just settled for my third room switch and the sheets/carpet are musky. I found socks that aren't mine on the floor. I literally booked this hotel to avoid Time Square which is now a lil crazy because of the theater district being closed. I know that hotels have rented rooms out to the homeless and people in shelters which I think is a great gesture but as a result the quality/conditions in the rooms have gone down. I am only one night into my 4 days stay and I regret booking this hotel.

Caroidious N.

Yelp
This establishment was extremely clean. The receptionist were very welcoming and informative..
google avatar

Victor N.

Yelp
Nice little place, very trendy. I got the basic king suite which had an nice view. The room was clean and smelled nice. The safe did not work but after a call to the front desk the staff had it fixed within the hour. Plenty of food choices near the hotel. About a 5 minute walk to the famous Apollo theatre. I would give this establishment 5 stars but the "weekend rate" was UNBELIEVABLE! I could've stayed at the Waldorf or the plaza for those prices. This is definitely not the Harlem I grew up in. What else is there to say but gentrification complete. I will stay here again but definitely not on the weekends.

Yelp
Brought my four kids into the city to visit a friend and I admit I was dreading the hotel stay. I expected an over priced room for extremely mediocre if not icky accommodations. I was wrong. The hotel was lovely and clean and beds shockingly comfy. I loved the ease of walking every where we wanted to go and my kids though the hotel beds better than the ones we had at the MGM resort in Vegas. I agreed. Will definitely stay again. I appreciated the friendly staff and the fun lobby/bar area. And I wondered if any city noise would interrupt sleep but I was wrong again. Super quiet. I've done air bnb twice in NY and both times it was fairly horrific. Never again. Aloft Harlem is my new favorite place.

Yelp
Before moving to Harlem I always stayed at Aloft. It's simple, clean, and you can't beat the location in central Harlem. I was able to walk everywhere and it's close to most Subway Lines. Staff was always friendly.

Yelp
I spent five days at the aloft harlem hotel for my birthday. The operations manager vivian was splendid and on point. The hotel is absolutely beautiful. The bed is to die for. High quality mattress. Clean and priceless. Their lounge area is amazing. This hotel needs a banquet desperately. I hated having to go out for food three times a day.. All in all my birthday day stay was phenomenal. Cons: refrigerator temperature was off All latin staff did not mesh with the african american community. It looked weird to an outsider. No diversity at this location at all. The late night female manager. (Loud hispanic) was ghetto and loud. Very uncomfortable to be around. The morning manager with tattoos all over his hands has a problem with women. He was cold robotic, standoffish and mistreated me as a woman. I reported him. Pros: the lively neighborhood... the food, the churches, the life outside of the hotel. The cleanliness of the hotel. The housekeepers. That's it.

Yelp
Great hotel! Bit someone's dog is extremely noisy and barking very loudly. The bar has Happy Hour and a good selection of drinks, reasonably priced and def can taste the liquor.

Yelp
Where should I begin... My boyfriend and I decided to come to Aloft for a weekend getaway, well this will be our first and last time staying at this hotel. When we got to the hotel they couldn't find the reservation. That situation was resolved after another employee helped the woman that was helping us. We came up to the room and the first thing you see when you enter the room is the bathroom. Very weird setup. What disgusted me was the refrigerator was in the bathroom area. Yuck!!! When I entered the bathroom and put on the light, there was a strong cigarette smell. I don't smoke at all and hate the smell. Then there was only one washcloth in the room and two towels. I also found an old toothpaste cover by the sink, this then implies that the room was not thoroughly cleaned. When we called to get more towels and washcloths, we waited for one hour and then had to call again. When we entered the bedroom area, there were several stains on the carpet and the walls had damage. My boyfriend and I decided that we would stay even though we saw these issues. We went outside to get something to eat, on arrival back to the hotel, we noticed workers that were standing by the hotel elevators wearing no shoes. Can you imagine, no shoes on, how unprofessional!!! On the last day of the stay, we needed one extra hour to get our things together, we called the front desk. They explained that they could not accommodate us for one extra hour. Really, after all of these issues??? We will NEVER come back !!! My advice would be to stay at another hotel!

Yelp
Cedric and all of the front desk is the BOMB I took a red eye flight from California, and I arrived soooo tired to the hotel at 7am. He was able to accommodate me. I am sooo thankful!! Great friendly staff even down to housekeeping. They have a nice bar/lounge area to have some pre-dinner drinks or just to hang out if you don't feel like braving the cold NYC weather! There's free coffee offered and you can charge any snacks(great variety available) to your room. Book your room here..did I mention it's right across the street from the Magic movies theaters?! One block up is 125th street where all the shops, Starbucks and Whole Foods is at. Eat at Chef Samuelson's restaurant, Rooster T. Feathers..you will thank me later! I Love Harlem and I love Aloft. I would definitely stay here when I visit NYC again!

Yelp
Had a very enjoyable stay this weekend on short notice AND in a snowstorm. Many compliments to the friendly staff. Gym was great. Idelay at the front desk was the best.

Yelp
Nice hotel, clean with very friendly staff. My husband and I are staying a very short time while in NY and we would definitely stay here again in the future. We had a great time at their bar, in particular our bartender Kiki was AMAZING. She runs circles around the bartenders I've encountered in my lifetime. I thought I had a favorite drink until she made it the Kiki way and now I must only have it the 'Kiki way' :) People like her truly add value to your stay at these places turning a pleasant experience into a phenomenal one.

Yelp
I really enjoyed my stay at this lovely little hotel. Great staff, and the hotel and rooms are very clean and safe. Big rooms, nicely appointed. Good small plates and nice bar. Details: Big room with large window with both sun shade and block out shade. Very comfortable bed, with some of the best pillows, ever. The bathroom and powder area are nice. The shower head is low-flow, so if you have a ton of thick hair, you are out of luck. I'd just had a blow-out, so no worries for me there. Storage for clothing is minimal. That worked for me - single person for three nights, but something to keep in mind if I plan a larger stay with the husband. The main floor has a nice bar, with great tenders! And lots of space and places to lounge around by yourself or in small groups. The entry is below street level, via a large courtyard with more seating. I loved that feature -- outside, but not right on the sidewalk, and it cut down street noise, too. Breakfast is served in the mornings. Coffee and tea are included in your room and you ca get other things for a small price, including a nice, light hot breakfast. For me, perfect, for someone who wants a Denny's Grand Slam, not so much. Location is great. Around the corner from the Apollo, close Morningside and St. Nicholas Parks, and to Columbia. And more, of course, hey, it's NY! I appreciated the option for early morning check-in because I took the red-eye from SFO to JFK. I was checked into my room by 9:00, unpacked, took a shower and felt human enough to face the day. Last/again, can't say enough about the staff. Everyone from housekeeping, to security, to host services to bartenders was friendly, professional and on top of things. Highly recommended.

Yelp
Every single staff member was so kind and helpful, place was extremely clean and welcoming! Stayed for a full week for work and coming back to this hotel every night guaranteed a safe, clean, and hospitable stay. Just awesome!

Yelp
Our stay at the Aloft Harlem was rather disappointing...dead bug guts on the walls, shower handle came completely off when trying to turn the water off..when mentioned to front desk they weren't shocked at all and asked if it was the door or faucet which tells us that this is a common thing. Our room was not cleaned after the first night, we didn't notice this until 6 pm as we were out enjoying the city. Of course we went to the front desk only to be told the housekeeping staff leaves at 5 so nothing will get done today, but they'll leave a note asking them to clean it the following day. Wait...what? I've never stayed in a hotel where this wasn't a service that was done every day unless it was requested for it not to be. Since the room wasn't getting cleaned we asked to at least have new towels. We head back out and return around 9...no clean towels after we were told they'd leave them in the room. I head back down to the front desk ask for towels AGAIN! She says how many I ask for 4 of each since I don't have faith that our room will be cleaned the next day...she tells me they may not have washcloths because they are on back order! She calls someone and asks for the towels and if they have washcloths and to take them to our room. I said I'd wait their since they now have a proven record of not showing up she rolled her eyes at me and told the person on the phone that I was staying in the lobby waiting for them. After 10 minutes I am finally handed 4 towels and 4 washcloths...no hand towels. Next day the room was cleaned but they left all the dirty towels. At check out we were asked if everything was satisfactory, said not really and the clerk said oh...that's it. I am only giving this place 2 stars because the mattress was AMAZING! We won't be staying at another ALOFT.

Yelp
The name Aloft came in probably about couple years ago, is the chain umbrella under the Startwoods, they're all together with Sheraton, W, Westin, Four Points, St. Regis and few more, can't remember, just google it. lol For Starwood chain, Aloft came in with totally different style, not like your normal Sheraton for Four Points hotel style, Aloft is no traditional hotel, they came in with a little of the funky, but modern and relaxing First of all, lets talk about location, is located 2 blocks from blue line (A and C) and the orange line (B and D) subway trains, very easy to get there Surrounding area, this hotel located across the street from a NYPD station, so I assuming it should be in the safest area. lol When I got there, I looked around, which I'm very surprised, because this hotel located in like a main street, they're many delis, drug stores, small fast food restaurants in the area. I took the D train which is the express, 1 stop you will be on 59th Street and Columbus Circle close to Central Park, the ride is approx 7 to 8 minutes, and if you come down to Times Square, it will approx 15 minutes total, very easy and fast. When you first walked inside the hotel, you will see the front desk, and instead of seeing the front desk staff wearing ties and suit like you will see in many hotels, you will find the staff here wearing Aloft t-shirt, they're very colorful To the right, you will see the WXYZ bar, not sure who came up with the name, sounded like they just throw it in there in the last minute. lol But is a nice bar, is good place to go with few friends, relaxing, catching up, and on the other side, they have a small pool table, few other chairs, guests can sit down and relax, or waiting for their cars to pick them up Now to the room, first of all, this is a big building, but is a small hotel, because half of them are condos on the 7th floor and higher, and the hotel part is only from 1 to 6 floors This hotel has only standard room, no suites, no bigger rooms, they're all about the same size, the only differences is 1 King Bed or 2 Queen Beds, yes, I said 2 Queen Beds, which is very unusual in Manhattan hotel rooms, most hotel rooms offering 1 King or 2 doubles only The room size is usual Manhattan size, but a little bigger, approx 285 to 300 sq ft This hotel do have a gym, and the gym is a very good size, much bigger then most hotels gym This is actually only 3 stars hotel, because they do not have a restaurant or a spa or swimming pool, I'm giving it 4 stars because of the size of the hotel Like I mention to you before, this is a small hotel, so is easier for the staff to pay every single guest a very special service and attention and take good care of everyone Is depending on the time of the year, but this hotel price usually about 15 to 20% lower then your usual Manhattan hotel room price If you have a few friends traveling to NYC and don't want to pay the high Manhattan price, this might be your answer, and to all the New Yorkers, if you are in the area, stop by WXYZ bar and tell us how you like it Enjoy!!

Yelp
My husband and I decided to stay at this location based on the rate offered on hotels.com and the easy access to the Subway to get to Manhattan. Plus I have had overall positive experiences at other Aloft hotels in other cities I have visited. We arrived on a Saturday evening around 7pm to check in. It's a brightly lit up, hip, modern spot in the middle of Harlem. If you have luggage, it's easier to take a quick left to take the elevator to the lobby. Otherwise, you can take the steps down. The check in area is essentially a circular desk as you walk in. When we inquired about checking in, the employee on duty asked if we booked through Expedia. I said that it was hotels.com. She said "Same thing". A little snarky but whatever. And then she said she needed to check if our room was ready. At 7pm?! I would hope it was ready since we were checking in late. That rubbed me the wrong way at first but then she gave us our room cards and room # and sent us on our way. We didn't really get to stay too long once dropping off our luggage since we had dinner plans that night. However the next day my husband made a point of saying that he thinks we had a queen bed instead of a king bed(which we paid for). And this is after we had unpacked. And since we were already starting our day we decided to deal with it later since we didn't want to have to wait around until a room with a king bed was ready. So that was another annoyance but not the end of the world. And fortunately we were able to switch rooms on the same floor later that evening with no issues. For the most part the hotel is fairly nice and they did everything to accommodate us. They seem to have a lively night life in the bar/lounge downstairs as there was always a big crowd whenever we walked through the lobby and the music was blasting. Our room was nice and had the essentials. They carry Bliss soap and shampoo products. The only things that I took issue with was the "free wifi". It's not fair to advertise if the signal is terrible. Most of the time we couldn't even get a signal. The walls are thin and you can hear every little noise outside but it's NYC so I'm not surprised. They do give you an option to go "green" by opting out of clean sheets/towels every day and earning a $5 credit. Because we chose that option we had the choice of spending it on food/drink in their snack bar downstairs or getting the Starwood hotel points. I think we had a good experience overall. So if you are ok with being a little further out from the City , this is not a bad option.

Yelp
Great little hotel in the heart of Harlem. The wxzy bar serves strong drinks and the staff is super friendly. From the moment we walked in we were welcomed. I'll be back.

Yelp
A good option for Columbia parents and hip people looking to stay in this area. The space is modern and fun, and the people working here are nice and professional. You get the bare necessities, but it's probably all you need. The bed is comfy, too. I suggest not paying the $45 to park your car over night. You can totally park it on the street.

Yelp
Great staff, low rates, and low charge for starpoints, close walk to a/c or b/d subway. If you want cheap food, or beer it is three doors from gourmet deli. They offer 4pm checkout to gold point members. Hint, to use elevator tap your room key to light in elevator below flo o r numbers. A security feature to keep public off room floors.

Yelp
Just stayed here for the holiday weekend. There's never anything wrong with staying in Harlem...so I love that there's a cool clean option available. It's located a couple blocks from the most colorful block in Harlem...125th which makes an adventure within reach. You can get to most trains, buses and cabs with just a few pace outside the door too. The rooms are small but that's fully expected in NYC. It's maintained well, the lobby is cute and they have a full bar downstairs. It's an affordable solid stay for a NYC getaway if you don't mind being uptown and training/cabbing it around. I'd stay here again.

Yelp
I stayed here while attending an event at Columbia as it basically seemed to be the only affordable nearby place. It met those needs nicely. It has nice, if small, rooms that are stylishly decorated in a way that makes you laugh and smile, but not necessarily want to imitate. In a frustrating turn, the shampoo and soap is an a push dispenser in the shower rather than getting actual bottles and bars. The shower stall was at least pretty spacious. I was running short on time in the morning so I discovered that the coffee was awful even by bad hotel coffee standards. I literally couldn't have a second sip even though it was my only source of caffeine that morning. The highlight of the place was the 10 minute walk to Columbia through parks and the fact that it was only 1.5 blocks from the subway.

Yelp
The rooms are not clean and they need to invest in making the rooms look a lot better and improve the wear and tear

Yelp
This spot in Harlem off the subway is great but you at the token must be keen on the location due to the front being a little down step one into the main floor to the check-in counter otherwise you can miss her. Room is great but if a little hiccup is the heating/A/C was a little messed up a tad & also wish the lighting was not so intertwined that to have some you must keep one switch on otherwise you might be walking in the room blind & only other little quirk is the alarm clock had no radio option so if you wish to be awakened by music you can do that & have to judge on when the ringer will go off. But the room wasn't bad & does have a view & amenities one naturally expects. Shower to do that you pour the shampoo/body wash onto your hand & do it that way (little bit to adjust to). Also wish the TV was not sticky to get set for channels & also wish the darn thing wasn't having the first channel to CNN (hate that FAKE NEWS outfit-that's what I think of CNN). Almost forgot this location though is not so far from restaurants, cigar spot, nightlife & Subway.

Yelp
We assembled the family from all around the country for my son's wedding. Because we are long standing members of the Harlem Community we decided to have most everyone stay at t he ALOFT Harlem so they could appreciate another side of Manhattan. THIS HOTEL WAS THE WRONG CHOICE. They seemed incapable of handling several separate reservations made under the same last name. Our block of rooms were there, then not there, then there again. The group rate we negotiated was available, then not available then available again. What a needless shame. The final fiasco is still going on. SPG refuses to give me the reward points because our SPG account is in my name and my wife (who uses her professional name) nursed her card to settle the bill. BE WARNRD. SPG has just completed a massive property acquisition and their systems appear to be stressed to the limit. While the rooms were adequate, expect the unexpected if you chose to spend your money with them.

Yelp
The room was disgusting upon entry: pubic hair in the shower, teeth whitening wrapping trash on the ground, dirty carpet, not enough towels and no wash cloths, not sanitized, and smelled like urine. The staff is not professional or solutions oriented. We won't stay again. I had to assign one star to post but clearly not worthy.

Yelp
Rooms are decent. I'm used to a more hip, social, vibe at Aloft properties. My biggest beef is that they only allow one bottle of water per day per room, even though we're Bonvoy members with status, and there were two adults checked into the room. Seriously, ONE regular size bottle of water for two grown people? They flat out refused to give us any additional bottles even when we asked at the front desk. I'd expect that from a hotel where the doors to the rooms are on the outside of the building, but not from a Marriott/SPG property.

Yelp
This is my second time staying here since I moved out of NY. This hotel is in the neighborhood both my husband and I lived in and grew near so it's a great place to come and truly get a chance to "come home". The rooms are very small - but very modern and well appointed. Most importantly they are clean, clean, clean! It is affordable, has a fun vibe in room decor and downstairs bar and lounge. And the staff are all so friendly and welcoming. This is officially now my go-to for visits home. Our SPG status helps too with little perks like extra points or late check out when possible. To the person who commented that this hotel "turned the neighborhood around", not quite. The upper Manhattan revitalization effort began about 15-17 years ago - and there are many pros and cons that I won't get into here. The complexity of this issue is for another kind of commentary. Nevertheless, Aloft came a bit later in the game but I'm glad it's here now bc I get to come right back to my hood and not break the bank doing it. It's also pretty surreal to see tourists doing the same. We had such a great brief stay and look forward to coming back often! Uptown, baby.
