Honestly, this was one of the worst experiences I've had at a hotel in a long time. It all started at the front desk, I was waiting to be checked in for about 45 minutes, no exaggeration. To make a bad time worse, the gentleman at the front desk did not acknowledge me AT ALL, I had to make contact with him to see what was going on. I asked what was going on, because there was now a long line behind me and no one knew what was happening, only to find out there were no rooms available for an indefinite period of time. For me, it's communication--let me know what's going on, maybe I can go grab a quick bite to eat, maybe I'm in a big rush and have to book elsewhere but to be left in the dark is very frustrating. I understand the pressure I've must have felt from everyone but just communicate, don't hide behind answering the phones, or walking away to "figure things out", let us know what's happening. The manager came to the front desk and walked right on by, I was floored.
The hotel is undergoing renovations so it's not looking like how it looks in the pictures, so that's something to keep in mind. The lobby is very subpar and the rooms are whatever, NYC hotel rooms aren't that big anyway. Aloft is usually a solid pick, but I was definitely disappointed with the service from the lobby all the way up to management.
