My Government-Mandated Quarantine at a Five-Star Hotel

"In Taipei, there are a handful of government-approved quarantine facilities, ranging from bare-bones hostels to luxury hotels. Travelers arriving in Taiwan can take their pick, but are required to cover nearly the entire cost. McKechnie chose the Aloft Taipei Beitou, which was a mid-range option and cost him 72,000 Taiwanese dollars, or about $2,412, for two weeks. He expects the Taiwanese government to refund him for about $30 per day, or about $420, total. 'I decided for my mental health that I wanted a nice room and a nice view,' he says. 'It was expensive but I’m glad I spent it.' Every morning at the Aloft, he took his temperature and reported the reading to his assigned quarantine officer, a cheerful man named Danny, who called once a day to check in. Meals were catered by the hotel restaurant, Nook, and served three times a day in plastic and cardboard. The meals tended toward Western fare—burgers, pizza, and soups—and offered a choice of several options from a daily menu. All were very tasty, McKechnie says. No one was allowed to enter the room and he couldn’t leave, so laundry and housekeeping weren’t an option. (Fortunately, he had enough changes of clothes to sustain his visit.) But he was given a stack of nearly a dozen towels and plenty of soap and shampoo, and deliveries were always available. McKechnie ordered a coffee from a nearby cafe almost daily, delivered by UberEats. 'I had this incredible view of green plains in the north of Taipei. The contrast was beautiful with mountains,' he says of his room and its large window. 'It was like my form of entertainment. I hardly even watched the TV. Looking at that window was something to look forward to every morning.'"

I arrived at Aloft Beitou around 11 AM and was pleasantly surprised to get my room by 12 PM! As a Marriott Platinum member, I casually asked the super sweet front desk lady Alicia about a possible upgrade and was delighted to receive a suite — I thanked her with a box of chocolate. The room was fantastic: super comfy bed, bathtub, Nespresso machine, sofa, working desk, smart toilet 💕, and an amazing sound system. It was very quiet, perfect for relaxing. The highlight was the stunning mountain view outside the big glass window. The welcome gift of an alcoholic drink at the bar was a lovely touch. Value for money is excellent, especially compared to the disappointing CitizenM Taipei. The location is ideal — close to Beitou Hot Springs and many delicious food options nearby. Minor downsides: the gym closes at 10 PM (a bit early) and the bar’s last order is at 8:30 PM. And the free breakfast taste really aweful. Overall, a still 5-star stay for me, highly recommend if you’re staying in the Beitou area!

Second time here and paid for a suite for 5 days. Unfortunately the standard has dropped from what I remembered years ago when I booked a normal plain facing room. To be fair the bed mattress is great - as good as how we remembered : only good thing here. I still got neck and shoulder ache last night. However the downside is numerous: paper thin wall. I could hear the tv from next door. Ridiculous. Paper thin bed room slippers that are not even replaced when they are dirty and almost broken. I had to call them numerous times during the week we were here, just for that. The bath towels are so tired my home ones are even thicker. Hey management - really? Being a platinum member seems to have no difference. Marriot chain is really showing how "well", they treat customers. Basic coffee powder bags and tea bag refill have to be reminded almost daily until I GAVE UP. BTW, NO ONE DRINKS DECAF COFFEE. Yea and as what some mentioned - no amenities other than a hairdryer. Cost cutting clearly, as a toothbrush or shaver will NOT save the world. Must I being my own towels and bed sheets the next time?? To top this off, they took away our bath robes on the 3rd day and didn't even bother replacing them. Had to wait 2 hours just for them to send up the bath robes. Well done. Glad I'm going home tomorrow. I don't ever think I'll be back here. Hilton here I come.

Wonderful 3-night stay – 5 stars ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ We had a very happy 3-night stay at Aloft Beitou. The room was clean, spacious, and comfortable, with large windows offering stunning views of the Guandu Plain and Guanyin Mountain. From sunrise to sunset, the scenery was always a delight. The location is convenient, within walking distance to Qiyan and Beitou MRT stations, and taxis are affordable. The front desk service was excellent — they helped with our luggage and even allowed early check-in, which we truly appreciated. Only one small regret: a hot spring bathtub would have made it perfect, especially in a hot spring town. Overall, highly recommended!

One of the better Aloft Hotels (Marriott Group) where I have stayed — conveniently located 5 minutes walk from either Beitou or Qiyan MRT. It’s obviously not as central as Taipei 101 but it is reasonably priced + MRT is super easy and Uber/ Ride Share is relatively cheap in Taiwan. Hotel Breakfast Buffet is quite good. Suite has spacious Living Room; Bedroom; Bathroom, which can all be separated by sliding wooden doors for privacy. Spa Bathroom has spacious glass enclosed shower with stand alone large bathtub — can steam while soaking rather comfortably since no bath hardware juts into smooth inside walls of tub. Special shout out to Manager Joy for going above and beyond to rework our reservation so we could stay longer because we liked our room so much! Staff is also friendly and attentive.

I arrived at Aloft Taipei Beitou late in the evening on a rainy night. It was dark, pouring heavily, and I had to drag my luggage to the hotel. My socks were already soaked by the time I reached the lobby. The moment I stepped inside, I was greeted with a warm smile. The staff member who checked me in was Antonio. He guided me through the check-in process and explained every detail of my stay very clearly. Everything was so well covered that I didn’t even have any questions by the end. What really stood out was his attentiveness. He noticed how tired and haggard I looked after the long day and took the initiative to let me know which food places nearby were still open. It was late, and a public holiday, and the hotel’s food options were closed, so this small gesture meant a lot. After a long and exhausting day, that level of care made me feel genuinely welcomed. I wanted to specifically recognize Antonio for his excellent service and attention to detail. Thank you for turning a difficult arrival into a comforting one.

Stayed at Aloft Beitou from 12/5/2025 to 12/25/2025. The hotel is well managed, neat, and consistently clean. Staff are professionally trained, very much in line with Marriott standards. Special thanks to Antonio at the front desk. I ran into a laundry issue where a dryer had been left idle for a long time. Antonio handled it calmly and correctly, followed Marriott policy, and resolved the situation so others could use the facilities. Overall, a smooth and pleasant stay.

Decent Aloft that has modern design and good amenity. It is walking distance to MRT and it's right between Beitou and QiYan Station, so it's not close to either one. But the room is bright with functional furnitures. I would definitely stay again.

As a platinum member of Marriott, I have typically stayed at least 70-80 nights each year across different hotels due to business needs. I have never experienced a Marriott hotel with service this poor. First, when I checked in, I waited for a long time for the front desk to be available. When checking in at 3pm, I was told that the room is not ready and needs another 20 minutes, even though the hotel’s check-in time is at 3pm. After waiting for 20 minutes, I had to inquire with the front desk again and she then told me the room was ready. When I questioned that why she didn’t contact me when room was ready, she then said that the room was just gotten ready. Upon check out, the front desk told me that there was no invoice issued that require my signature because there was no charge, and the room was complementary with the point redemption. About 20 minutes later, I received an invoice of more than $4k for the additional bed charge. An hour later I then received another email demanding more than $5k of additional bed charge. When I emailed the background of my conversation and the additional invoice previously received, Emma from front desk insisted on the billing and did not offer an explanation why the later invoice is $1k more than the prior invoice. I have stayed with Marriott for about 70 nights this year and never once had this sort of billing issues. No one likes to be billed multiple times with billing ambiguities. I will not recommend staying here.

Yelp
I have stayed at this hotel for the 3rd times so far. I like the location which is only 5 minutes walk from 奇岩Metra station, its quiet neighborhood and the newer building. The only thing I had to "put up" with was there were a lot of newbies/trainees, working at the front desk, who were not up to the task. But the bright side was that they were all very polite.

Yelp
Don't try to get coffee came in late and left DND in my room drank the 3 generous coffee pods next morning. now the fun begins. the attached Starbucks doesn't open before 8. ok go to breakfast to get a coffee to go. No! Did not pay for breakfast no coffee to go! said i just want a coffee to go and happy to pay for it. NO! you did not buy breakfast and you are not on the list. NO COFFEE. Wow. staying in a suite at this hotel and they can't seem to even come up with a way for me to BUY 1 coffee for the room. Scratch this designation for business lodging. get that there may have been a translation issue but both the hostess and front desk told me. so sorry NO.

Yelp
Aloft is part of Marriott Bonvoy and it was great to receive points during my mandatory 14-day Covid quarantine. The room is very spacious with cold AC, fast WiFi, hot water boiler, wonderful view, modern bathroom. Staff is professional and communication was easy via the LINE app. Dining menu is extensive and delicious. 24-hour snacks, coffee service, new linens & towels is available. Cab ride back to Taipei was easy and fast. This is the only place I would book in Taiwan for my quarantine. Tip: Bring your favorite utensils, bowl, mug. Bring a Bodum coffee press with ground coffee, filter, cream.

Yelp
The hotel was recommended to me for to quarantine. We were pleasantly surprised even after being quarantine for 15 days. Very new modern hotel, rooms are spacious and very clean. Bath tub was added plus! Food quality was good and service was timely. Would recommend for the 15 day quarantine and upgrading to a suite with a Mountain View is a must! Kimberly and Dave at the front desk or most helpful.

Yelp
I would avoid Aloft Beitou if you plan to book your stay using points. We did that, received a confirmation number for our booking as well as a welcome email a few days prior to our arrival. However, when we showed up at the hotel after a long overseas flight, Aloft Beitou refused to let us pay by points and insisted on cash. I have never experienced such a bait-and-switch before in many stays at Marriott hotels. Thus, for your own peace of mind, I would avoid Aloft Beitou if you plan to pay by points.

Yelp
The hotel is great for quarantine and future trip, too. During this 14 days of quarantine, the service in this hotel is NO. 1 , and food are great. There are 6 pages of the menu to choose from for lunch and dinners. I feel I am in the cruise except being isolated and quarantined inside of the room. The bed is comfortable. All the staffs are friendly and very responsive for all the requests. The room is clean and neat with big window. More importantly, I have a great mountain view from my window. Thanks to all the friendly and professional staffs to make my stay comfortable. I have been an Elite Platinum member for Marriot for a long time. I have been traveling to so many Marriot hotels. This is the BEST Marriot boutique hotel I have ever stay. Great job to all of the team in this hotel. Thank you.

Yelp
I been here numerous times and finally has time to review them! I live about 5 mins away from them, I often come here to chill at their Starbucks or take my dogs (Coco & Bobby) for lunch or dinner. Yes, this hotel is the only place I know in Taipei that allowed pets to dine at their restaurant, in the patio, also had pet's menu!!! Love this place!!!
