I would not recommend this hotel. The two stars are mostly for the location—being close to the University of Arizona campus, which made it easy to walk to and from the building I was visiting for business. The staff were also polite, but those are the only positives I can give this place.
This hotel is in need of serious updates and a deep clean, both in the lobby and in the rooms. My first impression, just taking the elevator up to my room, was that I might get stuck in it. The elevators have a weird smell and barely any lighting.
When I got to my room, there were food crumbs on the carpet, and the carpet itself looked and felt unclean. The discoloration on my socks after walking around definitely confirmed that too. The ceiling looked like someone had painted over old spitballs, the wallpaper was peeling, and the AC vent looked like it had never been cleaned. The room had a musty scent and felt moist, which is strange considering Tucson isn’t exactly humid. Once the sun sets or you pull the window coverings down, the lighting in the room is absolutely terrible.
If your room is on the north side of the building, good luck getting a good night’s sleep. Between the traffic noise, sirens, and what sounded like street racing, it was nearly impossible to rest.
The shower situation was also bad. The water pressure was horrid, the drain barely worked, and I was standing in about an inch of water by the end of every shower. There was almost no temperature control—either freezing cold or scalding hot. I also noticed hair in the shower and on the bathroom floor, so I doubt it had been properly cleaned between guests. There were no shelves in the shower either, so all your toiletries had to sit on the floor in the standing water. It’s a nice idea that they provide shampoo and body wash in pump bottles, but I don’t trust shared toiletries, and I imagine most guests bring their own anyway too.
There’s also a major lack of outlets in the room. There was nowhere convenient to charge devices or plug in a laptop at the desk without crawling under it and unplugging either the clock or the lamp. About half of the TV channels listed on the guide didn’t come in at all.
The area doesn’t feel very safe, especially if you’re walking to and form early in the morning or after sunset, and there’s no visible security. Right outside the entrance is a bus stop where you’ll likely be approached for money, along with the constant smell of skunk weed.
Overall, staying at this hotel only makes sense if you absolutely need to be within walking distance of the University or medical center and don’t have a car. Otherwise, there are likely much better options nearby for a similar price.
