My partner and I spent a week at Hotel Alp in February 2025. ||Hotel staff picked us up from the train station at the time we agreed with them and we got checked into our room around 1.30pm. ||The hotel is truly ski in and ski out with it being on an actual ski run. ||Check in was a breeze and we stopped in one of the newly renovated western bedrooms. It had everything we needed in the room and was perfect for two persons. Like all rooms in Japan, they are quite small be we just kept things tidy and didn’t have any issues with space. There is internet in the room which worked well. ||The only thing the room didn’t have was a full-length mirror but there was one beside the lift. The bathroom is a compact bathroom, it did the job but it is quite small. ||We got breakfast in with the price, choice of Western, Japanese and sweet options everyday along with tea, coffee, juice and all the cold buffet options.||There is male and female Onsen’s in the hotel which were great after a day’s skiing. ||The hotel dropped us back at the train station after our time there and also organised black cat luggage transfer for us. ||The staff were great, I got the impression that a lot of the people staying there come back year after year as a lot seemed to know the staff. ||I would definitely stop at the hotel again and in my opinion, it was one of the best located hotels in Myoko.

We have been guests of Alp for over 15 years coming to ski for a week in February except for the Covid years. The change in ownership of Alp has been a mixed blessing. The new staff of young backpackers are delightful and hard working and provide exceptional customer service. The update of the tired 1980's decor has made the hotel more welcoming but the update of the rotenburo ( outside onsen) has diminished its charm. The most disappointing change has been the included breakfast and main dining options. Night meals offer little choice and seem overpriced compared to the offerings in local restaurants, however the bar and happy hour drinks are a good innovation. Cooked breakfasts are often cold, small and repetitive , especially over a week's stay.|Some things have remained constant thank goodness....the delightful Saitomi on the front desk and the irrepressible Tsugui San with his snow clearing and kerosene carting. Alp is still the best option ski in ski out hotel in Akakura onsen.

No longer called Resort Hotel Alp. It's Alp Myoko.||Picked up at local train station by friendly staff member and when we arrived at Alp Myoko we were greeted by a friendly Aussie, Mitchell, who checked us in.|You can tell the place has been recently renovated, carpet, wall and ceiling surfaces looked new as did the lift.|Room was spotless, tiny ensuite but sufficient in typical Japan style.|Amazing location right on the ski run, so true ski in-ski out, drying room to store boots.||Unfortunately now comes the negatives. |1. The mattresses were very hard. I expect soreness from a day on the slopes, but not from the bed!|2. The rooms were heated like the Sahara but the quilts/duvet on the beds were as if you're on Everest base camp.|Couldn't sleep the first night even turning off the air con and opening the outside door to let some icy breeze in. Still too hot.|Next morning they replaced the duvets with thinner ones which were much better.|3. The breakfast was (ahem) pared back. First morning we stared at the dismal table and wondered "is this it?" Then a staff member asked if we'd like the Japanese, western or sweet breakfast. Asking for the western (basically eggs and bacon on toast) we had it sans meat and when it came out it was a disappointing morsel of eggs on toast the size of a baguette slice. Felt embarrassed asking for triple the amount so filled up on the single offering of cereal and a couple of small croissants. No way a hearty breakfast.|4. The onsens were great but having travelled around Japan a bit I know that onsens usually have a certificate of authenticity displayed from whatever authority stamps these things. No certificate to be found, but their website claim its proper geothermal water from nearby Mt Myoko, but maybe just hot tap water? Still nice having a hot soak after a hard day on the slopes. Big tick!|5. No lounge area to casually sit and read a book. Yes you could do it at reception but not really a quiet place and there was a small odor of kerosene. |6. No hanging rails or hooks. Other than a corner hatstand, where do we hang the bath towels, our snow outerwear, etc? Such a simple oversight that really impacts the amenity of the room.||Despite the awesome location, the staff friendliness and the onsen, I wouldn't stay here again, main gripe was the mattress.

Alp may well be the best hotel location in Myoko. It’s right on the ski run, seconds away from the chair, & absolutely ski in / ski out. 5 mins walk from town Main Street.||I believe it is now owned by Australians & staff seem to be Australians (all if not most), after being sold by the original Japanese owners.||It used to be ‘quaint’. We stayed there about 6 years ago. Despite what’s said on the website, we saw almost no sign of renovations. In fact we stayed in the same room this time, as last. It seemed to be identical (but now ‘tired’).||Mitch on front desk was always polite & very helpful, as was Sky whom I didn’t meet, but was very polite & helpful online.||The females who “served” us at breakfast also seemed to double as room attendants. We did not find them especially friendly or even polite, in either situation.||On our first day at breakfast, we didn’t know what to do - all tables had not been cleared away, & there was no information about what to do, how/what to order? When I asked the girl who eventually came out, she told me quite brusquely that we should sit down & she’d take the order.||Breakfast was WOEFUL. It was the same EVERY day. 3 options - western, Japanese & maybe salad. Western was 2 small slices of French bread with scrambled egg, bacon & sprig of lettuce (other slice had ham). Japanese breakfast had a piece of fish, small bits of salad & a bowl of rice. The tiny sliver of fish maybe changed twice.||Slices of French bread were on the “buffet” table. I asked where the toaster was? We don’t have one. There were packets of butter & jam to have on it - except for the days when the jam had run out. English-tea bags appeared one day, but never again. Coffee was almost undrinkable. The staff looked like they had just woken up & thrown on yesterday’s crumpled clothes. They were not especially friendly & didn’t seem to care.||There were 4 or 5 stairs carved out of the thick snow which went down to the front door. These were potentially hazardous for slips & one would have thought they would have been maintained every day for the protection of guests. Not done.||We stayed in the Japanese style room. Good size, nice balcony, great view. No tv. No plugs for internet. No drinking water (“drink from the tap” we were told) supplied. Bathroom (& especially BATH) was microscopic. Were the sheets changed over our 5 days? Difficult to tell. Prices have of course gone up, but service & quality of the product has decreased.||We stayed in the same room 6 years ago, & saw no evidence of any renovation. Stains on wallpaper & nicks & scratches here & there evident.||The location of Alp is first class. But value for money is low. Australian ownership has not enhanced the hotel at all that we could see & has certainly led to very poor service. To us, the quality of staff was very poor, & there just seemed to be a ‘don’t care’ attitude, except for the front desk. Other guests voiced similar sentiments to us. As presented now, we would not choose to stay there again.

It's my second time staying at this resort during the winter season. So everything is as expected. Finishing your runs at Akakura Kanko/Onsen, coming down hill, and then heading straight back to the hotel right away and enjoying the onsen after is one of the best feelings ever. Of course, I also love its proximity to the main street at Akakura. ||For breakfast, they offer both Japanese and Western options. My go-to is always Japanese, but my friends said the Western breakfast was good too. Onsen area is not huge, but surprisingly, it doesn't get too crowded. Perhaps it depends on the timing. The cleanliness is decent, but there are areas of improvements. ||I'm thinking of going to Myoko in the coming season and will likely be staying at the resort again.

Had the most wonderful stay at Hotel Alp Myoko! It's truly a ski in and ski out hotel. The room we got was traditional Japanese where you sleep on floor mattresses. Our 4 year old was having so much fun in the room. The breakfast was hearty. The skiing area is also perfect for beginners. The trail is long and flat, the lifts are very gentle to embark and disembark on. Our child said he definitely wants to continue to learn how to ski so I can only assume he had a great time with the instructors there.

Location is incredible. A truly ski in and ski out, but at the same time it's also within very convenient walking distance to the main street. Put the straps on and you can head down directly to one of the chairlifts at Akakura Onsen. Friendly staff. Spacious rooms with a lovely balcony view. Also tried a yoga session offered at the hotel, which was much needed after a few days at the slope. Overall a great stay, would definitely recommend. Nice to haves : - more varieties for breakfasts - more laundry machines

Granted that we were early in the season (I think we are the 2nd group of guests to check in for winter 23/24), the hotel was not ready to receive guests. I usually do not complain much but given that we prepaid PREMIUM for the large tatami room, the hotel was a huge disappointment which I hope the new owners will address for future guests. The GOOD: 1) Location is fantastic, ski in/ski out to Yodal Information Centre 2) Breakfast was delicious. Kudos to the Chef. 3) View of the outdoor Onsen was magical. The BAD: 1) There were no humidifiers in the hotel. 2) The central heating was not adequate, we had to ask for extra portable heaters. 3) There was no proper communication about daily room cleaning services. I do not think our sheets were changed for all 4 nights we were there. 4) room was small for 4 pax. Once they lay the tatami beds, there is no walking space at all. (see picture) 5) No Yukatas for children. Only for big guys who are at least 1.8m tall. 6) The drying room was small and dirty, the shelves were not cleaned at all. Cannot dry your jackets 7) No proper vending machines, only 1 that dispenses beer The UGLY: 1) The room was full of Stink bugs when we checked in. I caught about 20 of them. Hotel's response was " they don't bite, you just need to catch them and not squeeze them or else they stink" 2) The Onsen amenities were horrendous. they only provide cotton buds & razors. (no tissue, toothbrush, soap, drinking water, chairs in ladies room). Don't think it was cleaned daily when we were there. lockers were dirty and does not lock. The hotel has huge potential given the recent news about turning Myoko into a big ski destination. It is quaint, not too big and in a good location. If you want to charge premium, you have to provide premium.
