I know this is not the Null Stern in Saillon Valais, Switzerland, but as I cannot find where to review it - I will do so on here. I stayed in the Null Stern suite Bayart, and my pros and cons are listed in more detail below:
Pros:
1. It’s simply beautiful. The location, the bed and the backdrop, the views etc - I mean, just beautiful.
2. If you love walking, hiking etc, Saillon (the area is amazing).
3. If it gets too cold, warm etc - and you need a shower, there’s a room booked in the Bain de Saillon hotel. However, note that you cannot use both - you can either use the bed outside or the room inside the hotel.
4. There is a lovely church just below with a small nice garden - which added a nice touch to everything.
5. The people in Saillon are lovely.
6. The butler takes you up the hill, sets everything up. She was lovely / excellent. Sorry, but I cannot remember her name, but she had a British accent / is half British, half Swiss.
7. The bed was in a location where it was easy to find restaurants for dinner.
However, cons / things to note:
1. You have to walk up a little hill to get there - so, take appropriate shoes, not too heavy of a luggage etc (but then again, it’s only a little hill).
2. The toilets are down the hill and not "steps away from the bed" as stated when we booked the room. So I advise to use the toilet anywhere you find them in (restaurants, bars etc) - before climbing back up / going to bed.
3. There was no water anywhere - so, bring bottles of water to wash your face, teeth, keep hydrated etc. However, you are provided with one bottle of water, but honestly, it was not enough.
4. Breakfast was croissants, which was dry, and having a limited amount of water did not help things.
5. Note that the bed is located on a public footpath - leading to the Bayard Tower - so, there were people who walked by. For us, it was 7 people. However, they were polite, said hello and carried on.
6. It is obviously outside (with no walls) - so, it can be noisy / cold.
7. It’s very windy as well, so, bring some weights to hold things down. Also, the lamps will surely fly away due to winds. But I advise the hotel staff to actually change them. They are from IKEA and clearly, not strong enough to stand against the wind.
8. Safes are not provided so, be ready to carry all valuable things as you go back down for dinner, walking, sightseeing etc.
9. Although you will see outlets to plug your phone, they are fake - so, carry a power bank. However, the hotel also provides you with one, which was enough.
9. Again, it’s outside so there can be little insects / animals around. We saw a baby fox just close to the end of the bed.
10. Lastly and again, as it is outside, prepare to wake up early with the sun.
But all in all, I loved this experience. It was new, it was exciting, it was adventurous, and if you can experience it, do.
