Our family stayed in two rooms for two nights and then my husband and I stayed in the suite for two additional nights. The suite was perfect for us and our grandbabies and the smaller room was adorable and comfortable for our son and his wife, with a cute little patio. We even had our dog with us for two nights, and everyone loved and cared for him. Our view was magnificent from our large balcony. The rooms were spotless and the breakfasts were plentiful. The best part, even above the amazing view, was the service. Everyone was so nice and helpful, especially the young woman who checked us in. STAY HERE! You won’t be disappointed! If we ever return, we will definitely return to Hotel Alpenhof!

My husband and I stayed here at the Hotel Alpenhof in Grindelwald this month. The hotel is a lovely low key sort of place, with absolutely stunning views across to the Eiger. ||The staff were all helpful and friendly. ||The hotel is up a short fairly steepish hill, but it's only 5 minutes walk from the train station and the main street, so this aspect didn't bother us at all. In fact it's why it's a peaceful place as its set back from the hustle and bustle of the tourists on the main road through Grindelwald. Its a very good location to walk or get local bus to all the cable car stations.||We found the bedroom spacious, and the beds comfy. The bathroom with shower was spotlessly clean. WiFi worked fine in our room.||We had a mountain view room with a balcony, but you can also see the gorgeous mountains while eating breakfast every morning in the restaurant. The bread was fresh every morning and the breakfast buffet selection was good, more than enough to set us up for a day's walking in the area. We ate dinner here in the hotel on our final night too, which we also thoroughly enjoyed.||

The hotel is very close to the train station But the path is very steep and difficult to walk up especially with a luggage. The rooms had very basic amenities. The pillows and bed were comfortable and rooms had a good view if the mountains. The breakfast is just good. Overall I enjoyed my stay but I was dreading my walk up and down the hotel.

Loved our stay. We had the top floor with the most amazing views! Our room was big and spacious. My kids did complain about the sofa bed being uncomfortable, but that was the only complaint. Other than that we had a great time

I read the reviews about the steep hill from the station. My husband and I are quite fit but lugging 20kg bags up the 300m in the rain was hard work. Don’t let this put you off just organise a pick up or use a taxi if you are not up to the walk. I would not recommend for anyone with mobility issues. We did love the peaceful location and spectacular views. Staff were helpful and the breakfast was the usual Swiss style spread. The freshness and the range of bread made it hard to resist. The room had a fridge so big tick but only had a coffee machine. When I asked for a kettle to make tea I was provided with one so another tick. I would have rated it a 5 but the mattresses need replacing. Overall a great experience and would stay here again.

Absolutely loved our stay at Hotel Alpenhof! The views from the room were unreal, waking up to the mountains every morning was a dream. The staff were super friendly and helpful, made us feel right at home. Breakfast was a highlight, especially if you love good bread, jam and cheese, 😋! Great location too, just a short walk from the train and town. ( It’s a bit of a climb to get there, but the view makes it so worth it) Would 100% stay here again. Cozy, peaceful, and just beautiful all around.

It's a lovely mountain lodge-style hotel close to the station and overlooks the Eiger cliffs, so I really like it. The breakfast was plentiful and tasty, and the staff were friendly and polite. It's a steep uphill climb from the station, but it only takes about 5 minutes, so it's not a problem.

Wonderful room, incredibly friendly staff, and a gorgeous location in Grindelwald. The room was spotless and so comfy, and the staff was very welcoming and friendly. Would love to stay here again. It's a hike up to get to the hotel, but so worth the work!

Yelp
I stayed here for two nights with my girlfriend and 8-year-old son while touring Switzerland. This hotel is incredible! It's a little off the beaten path; just far enough from the crowds of tourists and up a hill to get a sense of quiet and solitude and offer great views, but easily accessible to the Main Street in town with just three minutes' walking. There is a surprisingly spacious parking lot out front given the tightness of the region. Our room was spacious, clean, with lots of storage space and a mini bar and fridge. There was also a bench and table with two chairs directly outside of our room to enjoy the view. The restaurant downstairs is excellent as well. Picture a Swiss chalet in the mountains and this is probably what you're imagining. Wood trim, fire place in the corner, giant cowbells on the walls, etc. the breakfast included was an excellent spread of breads, cheeses, meats, cereals, etc. We loved it and would recommend this to anyone staying in Grindelwald!

Yelp
I Have always wondered what the hype was all about with cheese Fondues. I never understood it until I went to the source of the cheese world which is Switzerland. The cheese was just so creamy and full of flavor. And the bread as well as the meat when twirled inside the cheese, makes it's all moist and delicious as can be! It's pricy don't get me wrong however, we were in Switzerland so that makes sense. Service- 10/10 Ambiance - 10/10

Yelp
We visited the restaurant based on our hotel's recommendation that they serve Swiss fare and we weren't disappointed. Our hotel stated it's off the beaten path and we'd avoid the throng of tourists. The restaurant itself was clean and orderly. We were the first ones there and didn't see many other customers, but I'm guessing it was because we were on American time and wanted an early dinner. Staff was super friendly and was happy to use a mix of German and English for us. We had beer and fondue. That's it and we were VERY happy. The fondue was authentic and the beer cold. What else can you ask for?

Yelp
Such a cute quiet & quaint place to grab some great food. We got the alpenhof cheese fondue which was spectacular. As was the Swiss dumplings and chicken wings. The people that work there were kind and attentive. Even some guests nearby wished us a happy trip (they must have noticed our American accents)

Yelp
Service was good but the burger I ordered was mushy and tasted bad. Fries were good and the steak my friends ordered was alright. I heard this place was five stars but other than the great view there's really nothing special.

Yelp
The staff is wonderful, free parking almost unheard of in this town and it is SOOO dog friendly! After a long drive, me & my dog were pretty tired. They gave us gourmet treats for him and wine for me!! I dont mind the added cost of the wine because its delicious !! Beds are very comfortable. The terrace is great for dogs. The view is so beautiful. Another wonderful stay!! Thank you Alpenhof!!

Yelp
Visited for 2 days July 3 and 4. Very nice hotel with decent sized clean rooms, over looking the town of Grindelwald and the Eiger Mountain. We lucked out and got a fantastic room where we looked out onto the incredible Eiger. What an amazing view to wake up to. Breakfast was good if typical Swiss fare... cereals, yogurts, cold cuts, a nice selection of cheeses and breads... Juices, coffee, tea, milk etc. all nicely presented by a friendly staff. It was included in our room cost. We had dinner one night here too. Schnitzel with spätzle was good, although I like my spätzle with cheeses melted through it, the way my Swiss mother made it (and now I do). Have yet to find any restaurant in serving it that way. That aside, if you're coming to Grindelwald consider the Alpenhof. I wish we could have stayed longer. .
