"In Pyeongchang, home to the mountain cluster hosting the ski and snowboard events, you’ll mix with world-class athletes at Alpensia, the ski resort that houses the main Olympic Village." - Jaclyn Trop

"If wanting to switch up the runs, an hourly shuttle goes to Alpensia, a neighboring ski and snowboard resort within PyeongChang that was landscaped specifically for the Winter Olympics (it has a new Intercontinental, which does great noodles, too)."

We went here just at the start of fall so there's no snow yet but it was already cold. There's a verbena field in front of the ticket booth and it was beautiful for photos. We took the ski lift up and saw you can see the the view down below. There's also another verbena flower farm up there and a cafe. We took the Alpine Coaster going down and it was so fun! I drove the coaster by myself and it can go up to 40km per hour. It was so much fun, I would love to do it again. The coaster is only available before winter. They close it down when the snow starts to fall or when it's raining. I bet this is a beautiful ski resort in the winter and I probably will be back.

Alpensia Ski Resort in South Korea was the main venue for the 2018 PyeongChang Winter Olympics, making it a significant location for winter sports enthusiasts. However, compared to larger ski resorts, Alpensia is relatively small, featuring only three ski lifts and six slopes. While it may not be the best choice for advanced skiers seeking a wide variety of runs, it can be a decent option for beginners and casual skiers looking for a more relaxed experience. One of the resort’s highlights is its thoughtfully designed layout, resembling a small alpine village. It features well-known international hotel chains such as Holiday Inn and InterContinental, providing comfortable accommodation options for visitors. Additionally, there are multiple CU convenience stores scattered around, making it easy to grab quick snacks or essentials. The resort also offers a variety of restaurants, though the dining selection is somewhat limited compared to larger ski destinations. Beyond skiing, Alpensia provides other recreational facilities, including an indoor water park, which is a great option for families or those looking to unwind after a day on the slopes. There’s also a convention center, making the resort a potential venue for events and conferences. Overall, while Alpensia Ski Resort may not be the most expansive ski destination in South Korea, it offers a well-rounded experience with quality accommodations, basic amenities, and a charming village atmosphere. It’s a suitable choice for those looking for a more relaxed ski trip, but those seeking more extensive slopes and advanced skiing terrain may prefer larger resorts like Yongpyong.

Over-rated. Minimal facilities. Overcrowding. Beginner snowboarding lessons were over-priced and the Chinese instructor we got, wasn't very helpful or enthusiastic in teaching us. Being qualified (maybe in terms of certification) and being able to maneuver the snowboard does not necessarily mean the person is able to deliver and teach. it make a difference. The person needs to be passionate and enthusiastic. Otherwise he's just another statue modeling around after pitching the script and waiting to be paid. What a waste! Utter disappointment. Our experience would have been better if the ski school had better instructors who help beginners learn and enjoy the experience. Different teaching skills should apply to different age group. so everyone can have an enjoyable time during the lesson. That's why we are paying hundreds only for an approx 2hr lesson excluding rentals for the equipments.

For a tiny little ski resort it's pretty good. It appears to be owned and run by the Holiday Inn hotel chain. The resort itself is very very expensive in regards to restaurants. Most are within the Holiday Inn buildings. The resort is very pretty and the HI have done a great job to keep it Alpine like. As far as the Skiing goes, it's very limited to about 6 runs. Mostly red and one green. Its Jan 22 2024 and there is heaps of snow. The runs are well groomed with minimal queues even at the weekend. The lift prices with HI guest discounts are pretty reasonable. You can't book in advance and have to purchase your lift passes the same day and only 30 mins before each session, morning after and night.

The hotel is impressive, with spacious rooms and a nice overall ambiance. However, there's a frustrating design flaw—the lighting controls. There’s no obvious central panel to turn off all the lights, which meant I had to walk around flipping switches individually before bed. Turns out, the panel was merged with the clock, but there were no clear indications of this. For a hotel of this size, a clearly marked bedside control panel should be standard. This lack of convenience was disappointing and could have been easily avoided with better design.

The ski resort has scattered buildings. We were lost, unsure the main entrance. The ski house is the place where you can rent all the equipment for skiing, including clothing. They have skiing instructors and school with different difficulties. We arrived at the resort raining. There were not many people. No snowing on 11 Dec 2023. There are many restaurants, playground for children and convenient store.
