Because of the other reviews I was expecting it to be awful, but it was really fine.
I went for a matinee and the ticket was $7, where else are you going to see a $7 movie in New York? They have all the big name releases, so for the low price this theatre is definitely worth it.
I was in theatre 6, which seemed to have the newer seats. They reclined really far and had a ton of leg room. The screen was good, not scratched like some other reviewers have mentioned, this may only be the case in certain theaters, or perhaps they replaced the screen? I'm not sure, but the movie looked great.
A few stars are knocked off because it seemed like they were having problems with the AC, or perhaps the AC is just not great in the theatre. It was around 80 degrees today outside and barely cooler inside. Move theaters are known for being cold, so that was not great. Also, there were two times were the movie "stalled" it was just for a couple seconds each, and it just kind of froze/buffered both times. Luckily both times were low action/landscape shot moments, but if that happened during an important part of the film it would have been really upsetting. Clearly they projection systems are having some trouble. Again, it didn't effect MY experience too much, but overall that's not great for a theatre.
I completely avoided the bathrooms because of the other reviews, so I can't speak to them, but the whole place seemed pretty clean. Old, no doubt, but there's nothing that can be done about that. There wasn't trash on the floors and they weren't sticky, which is all I can really ask out of a low cost movie theatre.
