Out of all the places we tried in Hamburg, this place had the best service. Our waitress was the most gracious, displaying poise and warmth; just very well-mannered. It was a lazy Saturday afternoon and the fischmarkt area was almost dull and vacant, but in the morning it would be busy with local vendors and hagglers. Meantime, we dined in this impressive, but casual restaurant. I started with Aalsuppe. It was eel soup. The broth was clear and clean with a hint of smokiness and sweetness. Not fishy at all, but had a subtle taste of eel. I highly recommend it. It tasted so good. I was so curious for the labskaus for it was uniquely Hamburg. Meat mixed and all mashed in with beets, onions and maybe potatoes, then topped with fried eggs and served with rollmops(pickled herring). I was glad we tried it, but it didn't stand out compared to Pannfisch- lightly fried filet of fish in a creamy mustard sauce sauce, accompanied by potatoes. I wish I had that instead. Nevertheless, we enjoyed the dinner experience here.
