The hotel was average overall. The room was clean and had everything we needed, but the bed wasn’t very comfortable and made it hard to get a good night's sleep. Staff were friendly but didn’t go out of their way to help. The location was convenient for what we needed. It was fine for a short stay, but not sure I'd book again.

This is my first time staying at this location as I usually stay at East Village, but the service remains the same. I like the lighting and ample space throughout the room/bathroom. Having a fridge and microwave was a nice touch, it would be nice if all rooms had that. The Nespresso was great for the mornings. I was unable to cast to the TV even with the room's Chromecast, which would've been nice as only audio worked. My first night was great, however the second night with new guests checking in, I was able to hear people in the room beneath me screaming and bouncing what sounded to be a basketball. Out of the hotel's control but worth noting. There is a Save-On across the street and Monogram coffee which is great. A lot of shops in walking distance, and across the street from the children's hospital as well. Will definitely return

Great customer service! Front desk staff was excellent. Everyone was friendly and helpful. I am really thankful David kindly helped me find another room because I had allergic reaction due to my fragrance sensitivities/ allergies from the first room. This is the second time my husband and I stayed here. I highly recommend it! I like the modern clean design alot and the glass showers (however not every room has glass shower - some have a shower curtain). We would stay here again. Great restaurants and shops in the area too! Abigail and Trevor at the front desk were friendly, kind and helpful too ( the first time we stayed there I interacted with them as well - I am leaving one review for two separate stays). Abigail lent me an umbrella too when it was about to rain outside. Trevor patiently explained the motorized black out curtains. Some have that. Some are manual curtains. Other staff I encountered there were nice too but I can’t remember everyone’s names because I had less interactions with them. Glad the hotel is eco friendly too. Lights turn off when you take your key card out when you leave, so don’t need to turn off each light one at a time. The last time I stayed there the nice lady (I forgot to ask her name) was considerate and made sure I had a pet free room on the 5th floor because of my allergies. I like the view of my current room too. There are black out curtains too which is awesome perk!

It was a mix of really good and lacking basic functions. Really good lobby spaces, location is fantastic, close to great restaurants and walks, people are nice, huge windows, great views toward the Rockies, toiletries are nice, but have nuts, which is tough for many, beds are comfortable. Missing basics like thoughtful attention to multiple occupancy- such as the bathroom light illuminating the whole room through the glass decorative panel wall. The rooms all see to accommodate pets, which can be tough for allergies- unless there are dedicated rooms that guests just aren’t aware of- which would be great. As a person dedicated to blackouts, the biggest failure of the room and experience is that it is impossible to block the light. The traditional blackout curtain panels are missing in favour of a roller blind with gaps on the sides that let the sun stream in. The pic is from a really overcast day too- so it would be even earlier and stronger on a bright day- of which there are many in Calgary.|It’s very close to great shopping, U of Calgary, and Children’s Hospital- would recommend for visitors to university kids or Children’s patients families.

Positives: Nice, clean rooms (bit small), attentive front staff.||Negatives: Significant health and safety issues. My room door was on a very tight spring. I came in with a couple of heavy packages, limiting my arm freedom, and it closed on my, removing a 1 cm layer of skin on my arm. ||There is a nice desk-type work space, with shelving extending about one foot over a 16-18 inch table top, at head level, so if you lean forward over a desk to work while concentrating on what you’re doing, you risk bashing your forehead (which I did). ||Nice little workout room, but you’re on your own and spinning bike seemed to either lack controls or they were broken.

Just home from 5 nights at The Alt. This is my 3rd? 4th? stay. Great experience as usual. Beds and duvets are wonderful. Rooms are well designed to accommodate all needs. Always appreciate the chair and small couch space to sit and watch out the window. Bathroom amenities and towel 'allotment' is well within reason. Also includes 'makeup' mirror for those 'up close' needs. |Read other review re not being able to figure out where front door is...there are only 2 sides of the hotel facing the street and one of them has a pulllout that can house a bus. Not sure the issue there. |And yes, parking is extra but that is the design of the Varsity area. Limited street parking throughout but massive underground parkades on both sides of the street. It’s Calgary. Rather be underground than clearing snow first thing in the morning. |Walking score is fab...pharmacy, grocery, VIP movie, and multiple restaurants...Una, Native Tongue, OEB, Five Guys to name a few. |Lastly, cannot end without mentioning the staff. Everyone extremely friendly and ready to assist any need. Well done Alt! Will see you in August!

Stayed for 2 nights on a business trip. I was greeted with a friendly and warm welcome at the front desk. I was happy with the size of the room which was set up nicely for working on a laptop. The bed was amazing, it's one of the reasons I continue to choose hotels by Le Germain. I liked the decor in the room - there was bare concrete accents but it was tasteful and modern. The attached restaurant was OK - a bit expensive and not the greatest portion sizes but tasty food and good service. One of the major upsides about the location of this hotel is the many restaurants and cafes that are within a short walking radius. Monogram Coffee across the street is amazing, OEB for breakfast/brunch is next door, and there are so many other amazing options on the same street (Mexican, Asian, Ice Cream, fast food, pubs). There isn't a cafe in the hotel, but if you don't want to grab coffee at Monogram or Starbucks, there is a Nespresso Vertuo machine in the rooms. My room didn't have a fridge, I didn't ask if this was an option but I didn't need one so it wasn't a problem. I loved the lounge space in the lobby which was set up well for co-working or relaxing. Price was reasonable and I would stay here again in the future.

Was here a few months ago for work and recently came back for leisure. Prices seemed to have gone up for the summer but it seemed to be the case with most hotels. It was worth it though for the location and service. Gentleman at the reception named Trevor remembered me by name even though the reservation was under my friend’s name! The district is also bustling with plenty to do. Rooms are on the cozier side but works for me and it’s all very clean. My new go-to hotel when I’m in town.

Yelp
One of the cleanest, friendliest, and newest hotels I've stayed at. I was impressed by the modern look and the amenities. It was very comfortable and conveniently located next to restaurants and a grocery store and a 20 minute walk to University of Calgary. I would stay here again.
