Alt Hotel Calgary University District

We needed a space near the Alberta Children’s hospital and this was perfect. The staff prior to our visit on the phone and in person were friendly, helpful, accommodating and just awesome with our kids - they even had a little surprise for the kids. The rooms were clean and comfortable. Would definitely stay there again and recommend it.

I am writing this review on behalf of my Mom who is staying due to an unfortunate medical emergency in the family. The rooms are clean, modern and comfortable. The hotel is in a great location - walking distance to many restaurants and shops; and the room rates are very fair. Most importantly, the staff and management have gone absolutely above and beyond in welcoming and accommodating my Mom including some special touches to bring a smile during a very difficult time. Thank you so much Alt Hotel University District, you are a shining example of hospitality!

I can't even express how amazing this place and their people are! I stayed here during a very difficult time with my husband in critical condition in the Foothills Hospital. To say the staff and management went above and beyond for me and my family is an understatement! Day to day with my husbands condition improving then looking dire and improving again all of the staff made me feel like family by asking how he was and if there was anything they could do to make my stay better! Everyone was so very kind and really did whatever they could to make me feel special during a difficult time. They met every single need I could have had! I have honestly never experienced anything like this in any industry! Thank you so much to all my friends at the Alt you've touched my heart and I will be forever grateful! Your managers should be so proud of you!

Came to visit Calgary/Banff area for 5 nights. Our stay here was pretty good overall.||To keep it simple, I’ll tell you the good and bad.||Good:|- Very modern|- Incredibly clean. Spotless.|- There’s an electronic blackout shade that rolls down. Not 100% effective but it does a decent job.|- Nespresso machine in the room that makes a really good coffee|- Close to a lot of restaurants and even a grocery store across the street|- Staff is pretty friendly.|- Views from the hotel are nice||Bad:|- Bed is incredibly stiff and pillows aren’t that great either.|- Tv channels are incredibly limited. No A&E or HGTV… like cmon. Get with the program. They do have tsn and sportsnet tho.|- Rooms offer ZERO sound proofing. Can hear doors slam shut down the hall as they are very heavy doors. You can also hear lots of road noise even from the 9th floor|- No safe in the room|- Fridge is pretty small||If you book through Expedia or any 3rd party, they will allow a 12pm checkout. If you book directly through the hotel they offer 2pm checkout.||Highly recommend OEB breakfast next to the hotel. The food there was great.||Overall, the stay was good but if you value the comfort of beds, I wouldn’t recommend staying here for an extended period.

I stayed at the Alt Hotel in the University District while on a business trip, and it was absolutely amazing. The hotel was spotless, modern, and made me feel completely safe and secure during my stay. The location couldn’t be better — there are tons of great restaurants and things to do right outside the door. From the Canadian Brewhouse and The Banquet to the VIP movie theatre, there’s something for everyone. I especially loved the beautiful outdoor park area with fireplaces — perfect for relaxing in the evening. This hotel truly exceeded my expectations, and I’ll definitely be staying here again the next time I’m in Calgary!

Impressive from the moment you walk in the foyer. You are greeted with a warm welcome and staff that really want to make sure you are taken care of. We entered our room with a personal handwritten welcome card with the words” we hope you enjoy your time with your grandchildren.” The Alt is located among all types of fabulous restaurants and a short 5 minute walk to Children’s Hospital. This was our 4th time here and will stay again for sure.

It was an okay stay, but not great. The pictures of the room showed a fridge and we did not have one in our room. I was told later that we have to request a fridge which seems odd. As a result, we unfortunately had some food go bad since we thought we'd have a fridge. I didn't like the room design either, the translucent glass wall between the room and the shower is bothersome, if someone goes into the bathroom at the middle of the night then the light shines directly into the room at the bed. The bathroom door was also creaky when closing. Water pressure in the shower was very low and made for a disappointing experience. Despite our room being down the hall, you could hear the elevator chime every time someone used it. We also found the door handle to our room a little difficult to use as you had to put a lot of pressure to turn the handle and open the door. I thought parking was overpriced ($20/day) and the parking spots are extremely narrow, making for an uncomfortable parking experience. I frequently noticed larger vehicles taking up 2 spaces which was frustrating. Location is great and the staff are friendly, but I'm not sure if I'd stay here again.

Wonderful stay for our first time in Calgary! After a booking error, the staff quickly upgraded us and even moved our items while we were out. The team was super helpful, keeping me updated via text. The Gold Level experience was definitely worth the extra cost—it included access to a lovely lounge with breakfast and evening snacks. The entire staff was exceptionally friendly and attentive. The location is perfect as well—I self-parked and didn’t need the car for two days.

One of the cleanest, friendliest, and newest hotels I've stayed at. I was impressed by the modern look and the amenities. It was very comfortable and conveniently located next to restaurants and a grocery store and a 20 minute walk to University of Calgary. I would stay here again.
